6/18/07, 6:30 pm EST

Queen

It’s Monday, and that means it’s time to reveal our official list of the best stadium anthems ever. We looked over your suggestions, added them along with ours, narrowed the whole collection down and came up with this list:
1. “We Will Rock You”/”We Are The Champions” – Queen
2. “Welcome to the Jungle” – Guns ‘N Roses
3. “Blitzkreig Bop” – The Ramones
4. “Song 2″ – Blur
5. “Rock & Roll” – Led Zeppelin
6. “Rock and Roll Pt. 2″ – Gary Glitter
7. “Unbelievable” – EMF
8. “Start Me Up” – The Rolling Stones
9. “Final Countdown” – Europe
10. “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” – C & C Music Factory

I’m gonna be honest. It upsets me to see Gary Glitter on the list. Until his conviction “Rock and Roll Pt. 2″ was common at sporting events. Now a lot of stadiums and arenas will not play any of his music. It was played at Vikings and Wild games whenever those teams would score but not anymore. Those teams are extremely uncomfortable with using a song associated with a pedophile.

maddrummer | 6/18/2007, 8:02 pm EST

Personally ‘Bound For Glory’ by Angry Anderson or ‘Four to the Floor’remixed . I know it’s corny but ‘You’re the Best’from the Karate Kid comes to mind also

Gary Glitter may be a pedophile but, c’mon, “Rock and Roll Pt. 2″ is a perfect stadium, sport’s song. Picasso was no boy scout either, pal.

Flinkin | 6/18/2007, 8:32 pm EST

Where’s “Pump it Up”?

Will | 6/18/2007, 8:56 pm EST

As good as Zep is, are they really “stadium rock?” I’d replace with the theme to Monday Night Football, if possible. Great list otherwise.

Ty | 6/19/2007, 1:26 am EST

“Wild Thing”! Where is “Wild Thing”!? And “Another One Bites the Dust” should also be added to Queen’s dominance of sports anthems.

roo | 6/19/2007, 1:55 am EST

eye of the tiger and enter sandman..

Martin | 6/19/2007, 2:44 am EST

“Thunderstruck” by ACDC.

“Simply the Best” by Tina Turner.

“Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy.

miguel | 6/19/2007, 4:21 am EST

Jhock | 6/19/2007, 4:56 am EST

Billie | 6/19/2007, 10:05 am EST

Well, I think everyone overlooked a few:
1. Take Me Out to the Ballgame
2. Charge!
3. Go (Team) Go!
4. Defense!

Lars | 6/19/2007, 10:41 am EST

Regardless of whether it’s played at arenas or not, Warren Zevon’s Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song) is the greatest sports song ever recorded.

Spyros-Greece | 6/19/2007, 11:09 am EST

“We Are The Champions” is a must …

Brock | 6/19/2007, 11:27 am EST

How bout ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady?’ Pop that in when a long haired opponent takes the ice or comes up to bat. Hilarious.

Walter Sobchak | 6/19/2007, 11:29 am EST

I don’t think you can go to a baseball game without hearing the clap intro to “Car Wash” by Rose Royce. And although there should never be an occasion when Bon Jovi should be blasted publicly at at 130 decibels, “Livin’ on a Prayer” works well when your team is down late.

crazy train is played at every footballl game

Joe | 6/19/2007, 1:48 pm EST

Not a die hard Padres fan, but when Hell’s Bells by AC/DC plays as Trevor Hoffman comes out of the dugout…..chills.

Joe | 6/19/2007, 1:50 pm EST

And I am glad that everyone overlooked “Who Let the Dogs Out” by (sigh) Baha Men…..Billie, your comments about “Charge!” and “Go team Go” were hilarious.

whatever | 6/19/2007, 2:04 pm EST

Come on a-holes! Why hasn’t anyone mentioned My Hero, by the Foo Fighters… it’s an awesome stadium anthem!

irieart | 6/19/2007, 2:22 pm EST

What about walk of life by dire straits?

Pat Heffernan | 6/21/2007, 5:25 am EST

What about “Xanadu” by Olivia Newton-John with ELO?

bdiddles | 6/21/2007, 12:18 pm EST

White Stripes “Seven Nation Army” is BIG in the soccer countries as far as crowd-chanting and so forth. But before a real football game, I prefer Motorhead’s “The Ace Of Spades” and bratwursts.

Beckman | 6/21/2007, 2:24 pm EST

Im concerned that only one person mentioned Thunderstruck and yes enter sandman has to be there

proletariat | 6/22/2007, 5:33 am EST

YMCA of the village people should be included in the list hehe

Mr. Tim | 6/22/2007, 5:48 am EST

“Constant Craving” by kd lang

That song gets a crowd pumped.

Voicedude | 6/23/2007, 11:33 am EST

I agree with many of the other reader’s ommisions, including “Car Wash”,”Eye Of The Tiger”, and “YMCA”.

The BIGGEST ommision here is “Let’s Go” by The Routers. Don’t recognize the title? It starts with all clapping: (clap, clap, clapclapclap, clapclapclapclap, ‘lets go!’….). The Routers don’t even get a royalty for this because you can’t copyright a beat…

BTW, Lars, I agree: Warren Zevon’s ‘Hit Somebody’ truly IS the greatest sports song ever recorded. Tears me up every time I hear it.

Hooligans on E by Pete Doherty

dRaccoon | 6/23/2007, 10:13 pm EST

HEY EGLE: Welcome To The Jungle has been played at Cincinnati Bengals games since before they went to the Superbowl. Riverfront Stadium WAS the Jungle. That’s tf. If you don’t know anything about sports… shutup.

aryanroe | 6/25/2007, 1:49 pm EST

Don’t get me wrong-I love “We Will Rock You” by Queen, but where is “Another One Bites The Dust”? I’ve heard that at a lot more sporting events.

zane | 6/28/2007, 11:10 pm EST
