New Radiohead Music: Paul Is Dead!

6/18/07, 12:44 pm EST

radiohead, thom yorkeOver the weekend, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich combined snippets of new Radiohead tracks into an MP3 called “A Bit of Tape From the Studio.” The whole thing’s pretty wonky, but you can hear samples of songs Radiohead have been roadtesting live, such as “All I Need,” “Open Pick” and “Bangers and Mash.” There’s also some audio that’s played backwards, a studio trick Radiohead have used in the past on songs like “Spinning Plates.” So we listened to the track from end-to-start to decode what else might be going on and discovered some audible lyrics – “Before you run away from me,” around the 0:21 mark. Below, check out both the Radiohead-posted version and our reversed version and tell us what you hear.

this has made my day!

The decoded one is just the original played backwards, remember this is just stuff from the cutting room floor, meaning there is no order to the songs played and one of them is backwards but probably won’t be that way on the record.

And I don’t mean to rush perfection, but… HURRY UP! I ripping out my hair in anticipation listening to “All I Need” on youtube.

Anyone who calls something like this a ‘mash-up’ clearly has no clue about the genre!

Mandy | 6/19/2007, 11:10 am EST

I agree, Scott. The “decoded” one doesn’t sound decoded at all. Unless Radiohead have suddenly taken on Jimi Hendrix talents, I say it’s all bollocks.

In reply to scott…

This was a teaser that Nigel Godrich spliced together of discarded tape that was edited on the cutting floor. There’s bits of songs in here that will be on the album such as “Bangers and Mash” “Arpeggi” and “Down is the New Up”… search for a few of these songs via YouTube and listen to them.

scott | 6/18/2007, 1:14 pm EST

Don’t get me wrong, I love Radiohead and will buy new stuff from them no matter what. but both tracks sound like gibberish to me. Not Kid A gibberish, actual gibberish…

Bangers-N-Mash | 6/18/2007, 1:12 pm EST

Oh man… this is definatly going to be the record that would have came between O.K. Computer and Kid A. Arpeggi is also present on this mash up… and has the potential to be one of Radiohead’s best efforts
