The Phil Spector Trial: We Watch Court TV So You Don’t Have To

6/15/07, 1:13 pm EST

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY:
Drama! A while ago, the prosecution alleged that Dr. Henry Lee stole a valuable piece of evidence. Now, it turns out Spector’s former defense lawyer, Sara Caplan, is suffering as a result. According to grand jury testimony, Caplan said she saw Lee remove a gunpowder-stained sliver of Lana Clarkson’s fingernail from the crime scene. Lee denies the claim. Caplan now refuses to discuss Lee’s actions under oath, citing an ethical conflict. Judge Fidler says Caplan must testify or head to jail for contempt of court. A hysterical Caplan opted for contempt, and starting June 27th, Caplan will stay in jail until she takes the stand. The June 27th date was mandated so that Caplan has time to find a babysitter for her child.

IS THIS GOOD OR BAD FOR SPECTOR:
You could tell by the way Spector stared furiously at the judge that this was not only bad; it was potentially fatal. The prosecution continues to relentlessly damage the credibility of one of the defense’s key witness, even if that means sending a mother to prison.

HAIR & WARDROBE UPDATE
Spector was fashionably fuming in a black pinstripe jacket with a lavender shirt and peach tie.

I can’t help but laugh at this case

Denise | 6/15/2007, 2:08 pm EST

What a nutcase! Sooooo Guilty.

staindpearlygirl | 6/15/2007, 2:25 pm EST

ummmm….this dude is sooo guilty and should be thrown away just as he did with Lana Clarkson’s life. A total LOSER!

Pietro Dominico | 6/15/2007, 4:09 pm EST

If one reads the case history on http://www.crimelibrary.com/ (do a search on Phil Spector), you’ll see he has a terrible and long history of brutalizing women. His children detest him and claim sexual abuse. I mean, I think the guy is seriously mentally ill. The sad thing is: his children are paying the price for a damaged childhood, and Lana Clarkson, sadly, paid the ultimate price for Spector’s mental condition.

Spectrum | 6/16/2007, 1:30 am EST

Who would believe his suicide story, is his hair real?

NickD | 6/16/2007, 2:47 am EST

He’ll probably get away with it even if he’s guilty…His sort always do, the law seems to be for the protection of the rich!

NickD | 6/16/2007, 2:50 am EST

Still saying that, his musical productions were pure genius.

Nikoletta skarlatos | 6/16/2007, 2:53 am EST

Defense and the Prosecution: DO YOUR JOB. Bring to trial every famous and not famous human being who has been held and threatened at gun point by this yesteryear person. WHY ARE THERE NOT SUBP{OENAS for all and every of these people???!!! Yes, It is all quite romantic to hear the purile and ignorant statements in these messages of the musically inclined regarding the man from the “Wall of Sound”…but that is like Camus and The Stranger. Someone had success, long ago, and yes, perhaps it made it’s mark…but that person is LONG GONE. What is left is a sociopathic, very wealthy, thinks he is above the law MURDERER. Do your homework ALL OF YOU, young and old alike. You will be deeply disturbed,

Nikoletta skarlatos | 6/16/2007, 2:57 am EST

To Nick D. His productions were genius at that time. Does that make you believe that it is then all right for him to commit MURDER in cold blood? Really….I am Dumbfounded. One has NOTHING to do with the other, unless, of course, you are the son of some music producer who is drugged out all of the time, has no idea of what else goes on on this planet, and thinks that life is an ontologically existentsailly meaningless blob?

Bubba | 6/16/2007, 3:30 am EST

In defense of Nick D… He’s a great producer, I agree that they don’t have anything to deal with the other. But I think his work was amazing, but I think in the end this guy is CRAZY! He deserves to go to jail when they discover that he did do it, but it’ll be a shame because it’ll just be another Paris Hilton thing again and he’ll end up in a psych ward or on house arrest. Gotta love the celebrity treatment…

Nikoletta skarlatos | 6/16/2007, 3:58 am EST

Thank you Pietro Dominico, for bringing fact and logic and truth and the absolute realism to the many ignorant peoples young and old, who seem to subscribe to the inane mythos of this disgrace of a human being. Phil Spector. As someone who love and loves Lana, THANK YOU for your educationally, informative information.

Nikoletta skarlatos | 6/16/2007, 4:20 am EST

To Bubba….just out of curiosity, how old are you? To compare Phil Spector to Paris Hilton is such a sad , sad treatise on American culture. What has happened to thinking peoples? And contrary to your American manipulated perspective…Paris Hilton and this situation have NOTHING to do with one another. This is not a star treatment, or a get out of jail free card. If you have anyone whom you love dearly in your life, who is beautiful and vital…do you really think that that person would hold a gun many inches from their face, if they loved life, and off themselves??!!!! My friend would NEVER have done that, period. Sorry to burst your facile, culturally devoid bubble, but whatever happens, this man is going DOWN. Lana was far too exceptional a human beong, with real soul, and this is not about an heiress and her dog…this is about COLD BLOODED MURDERER, as admitted by the lunatic himself. Gee Poor Phil..sorry that the last album was a complete failure in England, as with his previous few ventures, but it does not warrant murdering a vital girl in her prime. Sorry…your comparison to Paris the inane to Phil the sociopath is really PATHETIC.

AM | 6/16/2007, 7:32 am EST

He is a dangerous nut, but he is a rich, dangerous nut, so he will get committed to a psych ward for a short time, then make a fortune publishing his story which will then be made into a movie starring Brad Pitt or George Clooney or some other Hollywood hunk.

Big Don | 6/16/2007, 12:53 pm EST

The fact there was no DNA of Phil on the gun the prosecution might as well pack it up.

Ronald Vaughan | 6/16/2007, 2:18 pm EST

I have to sympathize with Big Don.

Although it looks bad for Phil
Spector,(1) his prints (and DNA–
which can’t be easily removed)–
are NOT on the gun and (2) Lana
Clarkson’s prints are ALL OVER
the gun!

How can that be if she was really
murdered??

mk | 6/18/2007, 8:38 pm EST

to Ron and Don

Remember Spector was alone in the house for 40 minutes giving him plenty of time to clean up the gun. Lana’s blood was on the gun but in places not easily wiped. Guy is so guilty…come on accidental suicide…what the heck is that!

Dear GENIUS” Phil – should be “phil-eted” – as fry him up in a pan and forget to say motha may I. You know—shake and back for the flake and then a little pan-fry. You know – a real wall of sound cooking!!! sizzle sizzle little flake/how you make my belly ache. Let’s hope he’ll be off to a nice California Culinary Institution real soon.love to you, Nicoletta

Re: Nathan; “Can’t help but laugh at this case?!! I wonder how hard you would be laughing if your dearest friend were murdered in cold blood???!!!!
Re: lil-lulu Thank You.
Re: The rest of you: Phil Spector ran out of his house with blood on his hands, PROCLAIMING that he murdered someone. The court should either get a qualified interpreter, or this country should recommit genocide again, so that only Mason Quakers are allowed to dictate what propgates true evidence. WHAT IS IT ABOIUT THIS SOCIETY that thrives on this, as I have already stated PURILE mediocrity and sensationalism? Study the recent last few years of Phil Spector, all of you sycophantic fans, and you will discover that his musical moment of glory was over a long, long, time ago. My friend Lana, obviously saw what a freak he was, and not knowing his psychotic history, offered to challenge him, and get the hell out of there. It cost her her life. Don’t let it enjoin your stupidity. These uniformed, stupid coments are embarrassing for the American people. Like I said before, PROSECUTION and DEFENSE DO YOUR JOBS….or is this just some opportunity for you all to make money and change you whole selves re: Marcia Clark, O.J.????????? Book deals, millions here, millions there..physical alteration…..and the forgotten slaughtered. Great.

Nikoletta | 6/22/2007, 7:21 am EST

Big Don… You are an ignorant, uniformed fool .You may want to do a little research of your own before making such stupid unsubstantiated statements. Inform yourself, and you might learn something.

JUNE SANDS CAMPBELL | 6/23/2007, 10:08 pm EST

MONEY BUY’S POOR WALK’S BUT NOT THIS CASE. SHE IS DEAD.GOD BLESS HER!HE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOS | 7/27/2007, 9:36 pm EST

Guilty? Sure maybe,

But you gotta love the
looks this guy comes out with.
He is what a hell of a lot of cocaine in the 70’s and 80’s looks like.

Rock ‘On

Kim | 9/13/2007, 10:25 am EST

Saw the Dateline episode about this case last night.{I was following it anyway} The most bizarre thing as Spector’s defense to me is the story that while he was being “taken down” by the police the gun landed perfectly under Clarkson’s leg! Sure it coul of/might of gotten displaced under the circumstances during the takedown, but to be so “neatly” found… Come on!
Resolve:
Forget Spector’s “musical” legacy and FOCUS on his hurtfull,CRAZY,VIOLENT acts on woman in the past. The guy is troubled, and dangerous.

Kim | 9/13/2007, 10:34 am EST

Just wanted another thing that’s curious to me.
Why was a gun out during a casual visit between Spector/Clarkson in the first place? She come to have a drink, whatever…If she was contemplating suicide {which is the most personal choice someone could choose} why would she go to Spector’s house to do and get him to take out HIS gun?
Why would a gun even be present during their visit?????
Me thinks Spector is a little bitch bully that gets off threatening people at gunpoint. See how tough the little f@#$ is in prision! Oh wait,he won’t do the proper time, this country is so swayed by celebrity to do the right thing and convict when they know it’s the truth.
Hey anyone up for a round of golf with O.J.?

Kim | 9/13/2007, 11:22 am EST

One more thing {I’m on a roll, lots of French roast cafe’}.
Being it was Clarkson’s first visit to Spector’s HUGE mansion why would he choose to show her his pistol? Point being:
Out of all the music history etc that’s there he sees it fit to display a gun…
If wer’e to accept his defense I ask if she was going to kill herself how would she know where Spector kept his gun being she was never there before?
So for no particular reason Phil takes out a loaded gun,Clarkson relizes now is the perfect scenario to kill myself?

It just doesn’t add up.We must keep in mind Spector’s past history it is RELEVENT.

His defense is trying to display her as being depressed about her career, failed relationship with a former boyfriend.
Yeah,so? like anyone we ALL go through these things in life and perhaps she was depressed as anyone tends to be now and then.Doesn’t mean she was suicidal.

Someone explain where Spector’s gun needed to make an appearance in such a huge home with so much to show to make an impression, convo about.
{Jeez the nutjob has John Lennon’s guitar on display that was used for his “Imagine” album among many other things…

But Spector likes wielding those guns, gets his shit off, makes him feel “big”.
Rule by intimidation, yep that’s Phil’s motto. The Ramones even were privy to his craziness during recoring one of their albums. Yeah I know Marky Ramone thinks he’s innocent…
Well just because you produced some classic music of course determines what type of person you are in life…
Hey didn’t Charlie Manson pen a few tunes as well…
Not to compare Spector to Manson but you get my point {I hope} that being a famous record producer does not grant you a “go free card” for wielding guns, threatening people @ gunpoint just because of the aforementioned.
Personal/prof essional conduct should be seperated.
Problem here is that Spector was a nut as a producer as well with the guns to people.
Of course we see the time honored he’s a “tempermental genius” defense come into play.
So how come other talented producers such as Eddie Kramer needn’t feel the need to wave guns around during recording sessions?

Phil your karma has come back at you, hopefully justice will be served and you will get the proper sentence. I.E. Jailtime.

Kim | 9/13/2007, 12:10 pm EST

“Clarkson’s prints are ALL OVER
the gun!”

Umm and that was how hard to achieve after she was dead?
