It’s crazy to think Madonna has become so powerful, she progammed Moby to destroy Radiohead in a one on one battle featuring Guitar Hero 3. Surly they will use Akon as a welcome mat. Hip Hop has become as silly as what 80’s/early 90’s hair metal became. Who will be the Hip Hop Kurt Cobain to rid us of these clowns? Can I hear another song about Clubs, Cars, and Booze?

I agree w/ EL Rollo, I was a big hip-hop fan until about 2 years ago when I saw my neice and nephew (who were 8 and 10 years old) doing a rendition of some cheesey Nelly song about “grillz”. My suburban white nephew was pestering his dad abotu wanting to get a grill so “his mouth would be shining”. I realized then hip-hop had become a complet farce. There was no longer an edge to the lyrics that reflected street culture, it was just about getting money and showing off. I felt the same way at the end of the 80’s, not that any 80’s music was really serious, but it had become so cheesey I turned to hip-hop since there was some edge and message, ie Public Enemy/De La Soul/Tribe. Now I guess I have to start listening to country.

It is great that Moby has a new record deal. The compassionate Christian vegan’s last three CD’s “Play”, “18″ and “Hotel” were incredible and very diverse. His instrumental CDS and B-sides are also creative and compelling.

Robert | 6/15/2007, 12:21 pm EST

“Sign O’ The Times” turns 20 next year!

Raz | 6/15/2007, 12:52 pm EST

Umm, how is Kurt Cobain a one hit wonder? They play 75% of all Nirvana’s songs on practically all rock stations.

marnr67 | 6/15/2007, 12:57 pm EST

idk id say pick hova over madge in a celebrity power contest anyday.

Scott = 27th chromosome.

For all of you biology failing nuckas, having a 27th chromosome is what causes down syndrome (aka “retardation”).

Not everyone loves Nirvana, but no one can proport that Kurt Cobain was a one hit wonder by any reasonable argument.

love it. | 6/15/2007, 1:11 pm EST

I’ve had Madonna in my bed, yummy. :)

Aries73 | 6/15/2007, 1:24 pm EST

Personally, I don’t want a hip-hop counterpart to Kurt Cobain. I don’t want pretentiousness acting as a false counterweight to what we have now.

I want to see groups/artists who will balance out what we have and add to the variety hip-hop had in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The only problem hip-hop has is that one subgenre gained too much influence at the expense of others.

look it up | 6/15/2007, 1:25 pm EST

that would be the 47th chromosome genius. If you’re gonna insult someone, get your facts straight.

Thank god Madonna finally is back in the top 10. Shes has a net worth of about 700 million (U.S.). I guarantee you in 2008 she will be #1 with her new album hitting this fall and another tour next summer. I’m sure shes up for a new contract signing with Warner Bros. So watch out Miss Oprah. Madge is back in a big way.

Hop Hop has become worthless (the popular stuff at least)There is nothing new, nothing with any staying power..

…Madonna however, has way too much staying power. Can’t think of a song of hers that is not 15 years old, yet somehow somebody must still care

Cheesecrop | 6/15/2007, 7:24 pm EST

Anything Cobain did was infinitely better than practically all the hip-hop records ever made.

think4change | 6/24/2007, 3:57 pm EST

madonna’s staying power comes from taking eveyrone else’s ideas, hiring the latest producer who does most of the work and already has a proven track record for making music people want to hear, politicing with the right people like the numerous people in the media she has developed ‘friendships’ with other the years,
JUMPING ON EVERY TREAD TO GET IN ON THE ATTENTION, say whatever needs to be said to be liked after commiting a disturbing act for attention. Anyone who likes this…whatever she is…does not do the math.
