- “The drunk, the nerd and the goth strike back,” reads the opening of a press release announcing the release of a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs EP and accompanying film. The EP is filled with five rare tracks including “Rockers to Swallow,” “Down Boy,” and “10×10,” which were previously only available on the Tell Me What Rockers To Swallow DVD. The accompanying film uses footage from those much-discussed live shows in Brooklyn in May, where the band played two sets for 100 fans each night. The EP will be called “Is Is” and the EP/film combo comes out July 24.
- In honor of the 40th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s first album The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, a special edition a special edition of the album will be released on August 28. The 3-disc collection will look like a cloth-covered book, will include remastered stereo and mono version of the album plus lots of bonus tracks, and will also come with a 12-page reproduction Syd Barrett notebook.
- U.S. Second Circuit of Appeals overruled a lower court decision when it decided that congress does have the right to outlaw the sale of bootleg recordings under the Commerce Clause.
- Many, many, MANY rock bands are going on tour. The Flaming Lips have announced a fall U.S. tour, Peter Bjorn and John are hitting the road once again, as are Animal Collective, and the Psychedelic Furs.
- Art Brut have planned a string of national karaoke nights in celebration of the June 19th release of their new album It’s A Bit Complicated. On Monday June 18 Beauty Bars in L.A., New York, San Francisco, and Austin will be playing instrumental versions of the band’s songs and awarding prizes to karaoke performers who best imitate Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos.
