Perry Farrell Blames Reality TV for End of Jane’s Addiction

6/14/07, 12:43 pm EST

Perry Farrell

Earlier this week, former Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro posted a rant on his blog about the nasty comments Perry Farrell had made on Navarro’s TV show ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave. Navarro took issue with the Farrell’s notion that the reality show had broken up the reformed Jane’s Addiction. Perry said this to Rock Daily in a statement:

“During the summer of 2003 Jane’s Addiction released the album “Strays” our first studio recording in 10 years which went to #1 with the single “Just Because.” After the release of the record, Jane’s did only one American tour and one European tour;.[sic] Dave convinced the group- excluding myself, to stop touring; which was very premature as we had the rest of the world to cover and should have returned to America and Europe at least one more time. During the course of our record cycle Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra had gotten themselves a reality television show entitled “Till Death Due Us Part,” which filmed in LA. I wanted to continue touring the world with the band in support of our record; and Dave wanted to stay in LA to continue filming his reality show. And that is why Jane’s Addiction split apart.”

So there you have it. But then reality TV also gave us Rock Star Supernova, so we’re all square, right?

Janes should have really spent more time touring back in the early 90s to support Ritual.

RSS is the worst show on tv; watched by a bunch of star struck wide eyed naivetes.

Rock Star Supernova (and all other Reality TV music endeavors) + Panic Channel + A project with Perry and the douche from Extreme = NOTHING CLOSE TO JANE’S ADDICTION…NOT ON ANY PLANET…EVEN LONG AFTER THEIR PRIME. Seriously.

now they’ll never be a replacement singer for such great groups as Blind Melon, Van Halen, and the Cars ….

Dave used to be a dark guy, I think Reality TV did kill Jane’s because it showed him as kind of a dork. The attraction of Jane’s Addiction was that they were mysterious, Network TV put a quick end to that notion

If he had ever found her wig around this would not have happened!

For all of you fans who are taking Perry’s side, let me just say how much that really hurts.

I needed some time to prepare for my wedding to Carmen, and I don’t regret a thing.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to go and take a nap in my coffin. That’s what we dark rockers do, you know.

theleftist | 6/18/2007, 10:28 am EST

Reality TV had nothing to do with killing Janes Addiction! Perry’s bullshit 10 year quest for self-delusion killed Janes Addiction! That was a great band, but when they peaked he decided to go surfing, have his shitty little side projects like Porno for Pyros, and find Yahweh! He caused Janes to implode along with Lolapalooza! He’s a pretentious Asshole with horrible taste in clothing and a lousy work ethic! Fuck him!

zentropa | 6/18/2007, 1:43 pm EST

What happened between these guys to break apart Jane’s started long before reality television.

With the exception of a few spectacular songs, Jane’s Addiction was over in 1992. Enjoy it for what it was with the original line-up. Any attempt at reconciliation and regrouping between these two intense creatives is destined to be overshadowed by a necessity for the spotlight.

P4P was great and Satellite Party has a few very solid tracks (woman in the window, insanity rains, only love, etc) but Jane’s is in the past. Everybody should get over it and look ahead to future projects from these guys independent of each other.
