Kelly Clarkson Pulls Plug On Summer Tour as Ticket Sales Fall Flat

6/14/07, 2:38 pm EST

Kelly ClarksonTurmoil continues to rock the Kelly Clarkson camp! Earlier this week Clarkson fired her manager; today we find out that the pop star has shelved her entire summer tour due to poor ticket sales. Check out the press release after the jump.

KELLY CLARKSON TOUR SHELVED…FOR NOW

Plans for Kelly Clarkson’s summer tour have been shelved for now as the singer and her team re-evaluate her show’s size and scope – a decision made even more difficult by the impending release of her album, “My December.”

“It is mind blowing when you stop to think about what Kelly Clarkson has achieved during her young career,” said Michael Rapino, CEO of LiveNation. “But ticket sales have not been what we anticipated and we came to the realization that we had bit off more than we could chew. In the end, we are in the Kelly Clarkson business and for that reason we believe that this decision will only benefit her and her fans in the long run.”

“Kelly is a spectacular artist and an incredible performer who undoubtedly has what it takes to sustain a long and prosperous career,” added Gregg Perloff, CEO of Another Planet Entertainment. “The day when she will play in sold-out arenas is, no doubt, coming, but for now her fans should look forward to seeing her in a more intimate concert environment. Kelly deserves a tremendous amount of praise for her courage in not only being a part of, but in supporting, this difficult decision.”
Tickets for the tour can be refunded at the point of purchase.

In addition, as future concert dates become available, current ticket holders will be invited via email, mail or phone notification, to purchase tickets through an exclusive presale, which will take place prior to the general on sale date for each concert.

What is mind blowing is that someone actually described anything to do with Kelly Clarkson as mind-blowing. She’s blowing alright…

anyone with half a brain knows kelly is beyond mindblowing… she’s a brilliant artist and a beautiful human being!

James | 6/14/2007, 3:32 pm EST

Wow. Groundbreaking news RS. I can’t believe Kelly Clarkson can’t sell out arenas. Am I in Bizzarro world? I hope you catch the sarcasm.

She is amazing live | 6/14/2007, 3:38 pm EST

I am a music snob. Kelly is the most mainstream I go. She is AWESOME in concert. I was bummed when I heard she was gonna be in larger arenas–now, I can enjoy her again in a more intimate setting. Cool. Looking forward to it.
Haters can go to Hell.

There’s hope yet for mankind. We have been spared. Hallelujah.

Big Nate | 6/14/2007, 3:57 pm EST

“Kelly is the most mainstream I go.” Do they make things more mainstream than her?

Obese people make me sick.

Johnny Kickass | 6/14/2007, 4:22 pm EST

Yay!!! Can we get some real music now please?

It doesn’t get any more bland then Kelly Clarkson.

Marc | 6/14/2007, 4:33 pm EST

No kidding…her new single is a flop

LuLu | 6/14/2007, 4:34 pm EST

Hey there “Ne-Gro”, Did you really just type, “Obese people make me sick.” You are a chode. She weighs like 120 soaking wet, I’m guessing your short and ugly but I could be wrong…

Big Chief | 6/14/2007, 5:21 pm EST

Kelly blows! she is kinda hot with a nice a**, but other then that I am glad that she canceled her shows.

mama fox | 6/14/2007, 5:26 pm EST

OH NO, my daughter’s 17th b-day is today and her present (which she hasn’t even seen yet) is tickets to the concert!

kev | 6/14/2007, 5:28 pm EST

Where is ‘Sideshow Bob’ that finished #2 to Kelly, maybe he can rake in more fans.

I can see it 5 years from now. All American Idol winners and runners up playing at your local state fair.

Except for Carrie b/c she took the easy way out and went Country.

hotactioncop | 6/14/2007, 5:40 pm EST

maybe this will give her more time to spend with her ‘girlfriends’.

to quote my favorite Simpson’s character “hhaaaahhh, hhaahhhh!!!!”. Maybe little miss Idol should reconsider whether we even care about her, or ever did…

Marc | 6/14/2007, 7:18 pm EST

Well Id say that 5 million people cared about her considering that her last album was huge. This one lacks singles. Shw should of taken the 10 mil from Clive.

Cheesecrop | 6/14/2007, 7:25 pm EST

I don’t really think she’s that bad. What is sad is the gentleman who notes that “were in the Kelly Clarkson business”. Perhaps if you looked at it as music first/artist second instead of the other way around, the industry might not be going to hell right now.

Andy | 6/14/2007, 7:57 pm EST

I am a devoted Kelly fan and I will always be a fan so you haters who are jealous go to hell. Can’t wait to see ya on the road soon Kelly!

Simon | 6/14/2007, 8:27 pm EST

If she was truly “mind blowing” I doubt she would have had a problem selling out hockey arena. Face it, she finished. Her original fans who voted for her and bought her music, have moved on to the new flavour of the month.
For a laugh, look at the Wikipedia entry for Kelly, and what some fan entered for the reason the tour was cancelled. They ecplained that the tour was cancelled because of slow sales caused by poor promotion. Ha ha!! Poor promotion? Some people just can’t let go..

Neutral | 6/14/2007, 8:43 pm EST

I feel bad for Kelly’s fans that have spent money for this tour, and are disappointed. But AMAZING live….uh..no! Like someone stuck a 4-yr old on stage to sing, waving at her mommy or someone all night, and apparently has to go to bed early, cause she can only sing for an hour.
I’d never waste my money again.
I’m not sure smaller locations are the answer.

Anna | 6/14/2007, 9:01 pm EST

It’s sickening how gleeful some people are by this misfortune. Kelly didn’t do anything to you hateful losers. Like it or not, it’s undeniable that she’s already been tremendously successful. Two Grammy’s, millions of records sold, and My December is already a hit on the pre-order charts. If she really were just a “flavor of the month”, she would have been “finished” immediately after A Moment Like This. In actuality, she’s only just beginning.

Kris | 6/14/2007, 9:10 pm EST

The areas that we chosen were to large for her following. Sorry to hear the concert has been cancelled – I was going and enjoy her music.

Check out Kellys new Single “Sober” on the new album. It will her next grammy award winning song just wait! Love you Kelly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There tickets were going to be a part of my Daughter’s 16th birthday present.

Don’t hate her b/c you’re not her. I don’t see any of you haters on stage singing your butts off like she did. She poured out her heart when she sang. Don’t worry Kelly! You ROCK!!!! See you on tour soon!

Anonymous | 6/14/2007, 11:12 pm EST

loved her before i saw her live 2nd row… everyone is entitled to a bad night, so maybe i saw hers but i wouldn’t buy those tix again

cokeman | 6/14/2007, 11:35 pm EST

I really wanted to see her I love her music and wish I could have seen her live. Wish you all the luck Kelly and hope to see you on stage soon. Keep your head high your damm good.

Kelbotsarelosers | 6/15/2007, 12:01 am EST

Just another shining example of the penalty you pay for getting too big for your britches!

A “Star” she’s not!

timmybearsd | 6/15/2007, 12:25 am EST

Man… some people are so rude! You don’t have to like her music to appreciate that Kelly’s an amazing singer. And at least she had the courage to tell the truth about cancelling the tour, unlike when Christina Agulera and Britney Spears cancelled their tours because of fake “illness” and “injury.” It’s a shame that a single debuting at number 8 on the Billboard charts is considered a failure. Cut the girl some slack!

brian | 6/15/2007, 3:47 am EST

KELLY,
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR , STOP SINGING ABOUT NEGATIVE STUFF!!! IT ALWAYS A BAD BOYFRIEND OR BAD DADDY!! ITS DEPRESSING!!! you should go goth or something

Lumpy | 6/15/2007, 3:53 am EST

Umm, maybe if she actually had an IDENTITY, people would be interested in her.

Sometimes it takes a while for music lovers and fans to figure that out, though… sometimes they only figure it out AFTER the mega success of a preceptively planned album for the mainstream masses ( her second album ), and it’s only then people start to realise the shallowness, and the fact that there is truly NOTHING there, so they move on.

However.

However, “Never Again” is by FAR her best song, beats everything else that she’s done up until now by miles, and so I personally thought that the song itself was a glimpse of hope that she would start to carve out some sort of identity for herself… well, okay, the lyrics are just a whiny as usual, but the music is damn good: a pop song with chilly moodiness, with almost a cryptic quality… how often does one hear something like that in pop??? …but, it’s too late, Kelly. Your fans are pretty much over you. This is a leap you should have taken with your second album.

And I don’t think she will “go away”, as some people put it, it’s just that her fan base will seriously shrink, and it will proceed to shrink until she really grows into her own shoes and finds out who the real Kelly Clarkson is and thus becomes a real artist… like I said, she seems to possess the potential for that, for realism and for penning good songs, but sometimes it takes a bit longer for some musicians to turn the full leaf…. and she’s just not there yet… like, the Evanescence-esque album cover, what the hell was she thinking???

So, it’s a mixed bag, but she’ll come out of it successfully, if she sticks around for the right reasons…. she seems like a good gal, I don’t think fame is everything to her…….

dizzle | 6/15/2007, 9:06 am EST

she is hot.
people dont buy concert tickets just to see a hot chick though…

husker don't | 6/15/2007, 9:13 am EST

Don’t worry music snobs yoko ono just put out a new album! I’m sure it’s awsome! I’m sure there are plenty of lame ,barley can play or sing cool indie bands playing some in store in your town. kelly clarkson doesn’t miss you or need you. There has alaways been this kind of pop music around if you don’t like it don’t listen to it! It sure is amazing the people who hate idol know so much about it.

Thasard | 6/15/2007, 10:01 am EST

I am so mad that this was cancelled. I had floor seats and I was so looking forward to it. It’s sort of just the principal of it all.

Anonymous | 6/15/2007, 11:26 am EST

guess this is a big f you to simon cowell lol

Rich | 6/15/2007, 12:34 pm EST

She has a very powerful voice. I’ve heard she’s good live. Why not pursue a more blues texture with that voice and lycrics?

SP | 6/15/2007, 12:37 pm EST

This is great news. Arena shows suck. More intimate venues FTW!

farouk | 6/15/2007, 12:50 pm EST

her 15 minutes ended… move over!

jennifer | 6/15/2007, 12:56 pm EST

she’s fat and have a midget face!

Lisa | 6/15/2007, 4:34 pm EST

The thing that annoys me the most is that Tickemaster is such a rip off company. I just got an e-mail from them saying that all but a $5.00 processing fee was going to be refunded. That is just crap.

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 4:39 pm EST

boo-hoo so the public has smartened up and decided not to support another no-talent hack who can sing for beans. Good!

Anonymous | 6/15/2007, 4:42 pm EST

What’s with the “hater” business. A person can’t criticise something/someone without being called a hater? It just shows a lack of sense and maturity. If someone doesn’t like music that you like it doesn’t have to be a personal affront.

TFW38 | 6/15/2007, 4:45 pm EST

Well, looks like Kelly has finally got an eye to eye look at the “Coporate eagle.” (CHECK THE SONG.)Now that Sony owns the Lions share of the industry, it’s pretty much play ball their way or die. Sure you can be an artist.. As long as you follow the bouncing ball. The novelty of the puppet show has lost it’s luster for her and she wants more creative input. Good luck with that Kelly.
They should have stopped American Idol after the first season.
As it seems conformance has become more important than the music.
“SUPPORT INDIE MUSIC~!”

Mr H | 6/15/2007, 4:49 pm EST

I agree with Anonymous but people don’t have to be so mean. Obese? Midget faced? These people aren’t haters, they’re depraved. I personally think Kelly is pretty with a perfect body. I could walk behind her all day.

Rock Star | 6/15/2007, 4:52 pm EST

Support Indie Music!

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 5:02 pm EST

nothing personal intended, but you have to understand – i know the business inside and out – this young lady is your average, slightly chubby, plain looking person who is incessantly airbrushed and basically sandblasted with professional make-up to look the way she does in photos and television appearances. her singing is weak at best and her songs are constructed literally line by line, and in some cases word by word to get her in key. when that fails, she is pitch-corrected to save time and money. this is not real music and not real artistry. try someone like Tom Petty. Or if you’re younger, check out Panic! At The Disco – they write their own songs, play their own instruments and are incredible. thaeir music is extremely well crafted, catchy and very well produced.

Ron Brooks | 6/15/2007, 5:03 pm EST

She definately has a wonderful voice but unfortunately singing the way she did on American Idol this year (Throaty and screaming) tells me she won’t be around for very long and will develop nodes on her vocal chords.

It’s ashame because I really think she could do well. Someone needs to step in before she ruins her voice and career.

Red | 6/15/2007, 5:04 pm EST

There’s no shame in having to cancel a concert tour. It happens all the time!! There are successful artists that have been around a lot longer than Kelly that prefer the more intimate atmosphere of smaller venues. Kelly’s concert will be rescheduled at smaller venues and she will more than likely sell them out – still making lots of money! Kelly Clarkson will be around for a long time to come.

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 5:12 pm EST

Kelly Clarkson will be around for 1 more year at most – and that is still way too long – good riddance to bad rubbish! Britney who? Christina who? ( and she can actually sing) look people – these are not artists with any staying power. they are fads created to suck money out of wallets and nothing else… period. you think Kelly is good because you are force fed garbage by the media outlets – you cannot hear good music on the raduio or television because good music does not sell. product sells. try Wilco, Bad Brains, Pearl Jam, Heart, The Beatles, The Kinks, Zeppelin, System Of A Down, Tom Petty, Frank Sinatra, Roy Orbison, Frank Zappa, Ministry, Midnight Oil, Rush, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, Aerosmith, The Who, Yes, Panic! At The Disco, Robert Johnson, The Sisters Of Mercy, The Cure, Fishbone and Kraftwerk to get started.

Stevio | 6/15/2007, 5:13 pm EST

Who’s Kelly Clarkson? I’ve never heard of her.

Jani Lane | 6/15/2007, 5:22 pm EST

to all you nay sayers, go back to your hole and think of more put downs memorize some witty comments you hear on t.v. and act like you came up with them. When did she ever come out and say that she plays her own instruments or writes all of her own stuff. She has wrote some of her own songs and if any of you no talent hacks knew anything about the industry and you sign a contract you are not in charge anymore. Kelly is a beautiful, talented young lady.

Zero Cool

Colleen | 6/15/2007, 5:31 pm EST

I really dont understand all the ‘haters’. Are you just jealous because your not famous? I really dont think that you should knock someone down just because they dont wear a size 00. And im sure that you probably dont wear that size either. And if you want to advertise another band, then go somewhere else, not on a topic about Kelly Clarkson. I like Panic! At the Disco, but to say that Kelly sucks just because she isnt Panic! At the Disco, is stupid and single-minded if you ask me. Get a life and stop bashing on people you know nothing about.

Mr H | 6/15/2007, 5:34 pm EST

The level of grammer and overall grasp of the English language in these posts is frightening. “She has wrote”? Goodbye civilization. It was nice while it lasted.

Dean | 6/15/2007, 5:38 pm EST

Kelly is a great singer, and it is too bad that people are ripping into her because of her recent changes. She is standing by her own guns, and not caving onto Clive Davis. In the long run ,she will be better off.

Stephanie | 6/15/2007, 5:46 pm EST

Kelly Clarkson is an awesome singer and ARTIST, she does have true fans that support her and on the other side are people who just are close-minded. She is better than your typical pop stars, BRITNEY SPEARS is a GREAT example. I rather have my kids look up and admire Kelly Clarkson than any other pop star!!!

Atlanta Musician | 6/15/2007, 5:47 pm EST

What really “blows” are most of the comments I’ve read. In general I’m indifferent to Clarkson’s music. However there should be no arguement that she possesses at least enough talent and marketabililty to have achieved more success and wealth at such a young age than most of us will know in a lifetime. A canceled tour doesn’t end a career by any means. There is always someone more talented out there, but shame on anyone for knocking someone because they “made it”. I’ll trade jobs with her anyday…

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 5:52 pm EST

sorry people… she is a bland looking, talentless puppet. look at the above photo for cryin’ out loud – and even there she’s absolutely plastered with makeup – youch! you want to hear a woman who can sing like a mofo? i mean really belt out a tune? try Ann Wilson from the group Heart – check out any of their songs before 1983 or so, especially Mistral Wind from the album Dog & Butterfly and Crazy On You from Dreamboat Annie

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 5:57 pm EST

alright that’s it! gloves off! you people who think she has even a modicum of talent are just freaking clueless and deserve to listen to cookie-cutter, by-the numbers pop crap. there is more talent, finesse and taste in a steaming puddle of dog vomit. my god you poor kids raised on the crap that passes for music these past 20 years or so. goodness, gracious you are such willing suckers consuming such vile, disgusting product. shame! i blame the media, but also your parents for not letting you hear, say, the Beatles even once in your life.

Ann | 6/15/2007, 5:58 pm EST

I dislike Clarkson and her terrible music very much. I hate her voice and her attitude and her songs. Clarkson sucks. I hope her new CD is a flop and a failure, and I hope she gets out of the business. I can’t stand Clarkson — she makes my stomach turn…

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 5:59 pm EST

2 more words people… Nina Simone

Tricky Ricky | 6/15/2007, 6:02 pm EST

Judging from the last couple of interviews I’ve read, Miss Independent has a serious case of delusional thinking regarding her status in the music world. I give her cred for her ability to become the Flavor Of The Year on radio which led to popularity awards & high sales of her second CD. But she’s got to realize that there’s a new flavor every year & her time has passed. This doesn’t mean her career is over by any means, but she’s certainly not proven that she can be an arena-filliing artist or stay in the mainstream long-term.

She & her people made serious mistakes planning this tour & now they are paying the consequences. Her guarantee (what she gets paid per show) is an outlandish amount which makes the ticket prices unaffordable to her tweenie/teeniebop audience. How many families of 4 can pay $400 for the privilege of hearing Those Hazel Eyes scream over her band for a lousy hour? Not to mention the common sense she eschewed by refusing to put out another album geared to the fans of her biggest hit, “Breakaway.” She’s not powerful enough in the business or developed as an artist to insist on doing everything her own way just yet. Maybe if her 3rd CD was equal in success to her 2nd she could then take the reins for her 4th. But methinks this is a case of her head getting just a bit too big for that pop princess crown too soon. Some of the crap she’s spewing in interviews would be palatable coming from Prince or Madonna, but from someone with only 1 huge album to her name, it only reeks of arrogance.

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 6:08 pm EST

alright – done for now – let me leave all you nice people with another thought… remember, these people are just that – people like you and me – they may have a talent that you don’t, but think about how many singers, musicians, etc. they are in the world who are probably more talented than the famous ones and you’ll start to get the picture. i am probably better than 90% of all the drummers in the world, but i chose a different path in life. i still paly for fun, but remember, if i “got a break” at some point, i have have been someone as revered as say Stewrat Copeland of The Police for example. these are just everyday people who got a shot at the bigtime and most of them blow-it bigtime. look at Britney for cryin’ out loud. she had everything, was a decent human being, (couldn’t sing but oh well) and now she is a tabloid joke and will only be remembered for her antics – never her “music” if you can even call it that. outta here for now – by the way, i love this yakkin’ online thing – it’s kinda fun. yak at ya’ll later!

scnative | 6/15/2007, 6:09 pm EST

I thnk she has a great voice, but I hope she’s not getting “too big for her britches”. It’d be a shame to go the same route as Stevie Nicks. Remeber when she started tour / show cancelling ? That’s right…people moved on without her. That’s the biz..

Nice on radio but not concert | 6/15/2007, 6:12 pm EST

She is alright but her songs are too overproduced to make people want to hear her live. She needs more vocally prominent songs that she can sing well in a concert setting if she is going to be doing arena tours. She should take a cue from Avril for the type of mix of songs.

scnative | 6/15/2007, 6:13 pm EST

**remember

maxwell | 6/15/2007, 6:17 pm EST

People who strike me as artists would include Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Widespread Panic, Perpetual Groove, Drive By Truckers….Kelly Clarkson has nothing in common with any of those. She is simply another pop tart who sings when the record co. grinds the organ. I don’t mean to be cruel, but the artists didn’t trade their integrity for the Hollywood mansion and therefore still have their control without the circus.

jessica | 6/15/2007, 6:19 pm EST

Some people are so mean. If you weren’t going to attend the shows, what do you all care if they are cancelled or not? She’s good, the girl makes one album that’s not a big a hit as her last and she gets ripped into? This is why the music business is the way it is…don’t like her don’t listen and we won’t listen to the trash you do.

renzomacabre | 6/15/2007, 6:22 pm EST

I think she is a good singer. I do think that the prices of tickets could be what is hurting her. I know it is a money business, but you have to prove to the public you are worth the ticket price now.
Get the wagon going with a great show- then start to raise prices.

Farto | 6/15/2007, 6:26 pm EST

Clive Davis has orchestrated the entire demise of Kellys new album…he would never aloow anyone to prove him wrong….NEVER..I hope Kelly learns from this and realizes the lease around her neck is there for a long time to come before she can truly do her own thing. Money rules in her business. Also, she needs to stop coming across as a miserbale hag.

sistahkuz | 6/15/2007, 6:31 pm EST

Kelly has a great voice, she probably would have made it without American Idol. I only wish she had better songs to sing. I think “her machine” is taking her in the wrong direction. She needs to work with some good song writers and find herself.

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 6:34 pm EST

no, she needs to disappear altogether… no amount of songwriting Guru’s can keep pulling turds like this outta their butts for very long – look at Linda Perry making mud-monkey songs for Artists who have dried up along the way like Pink – too bad because she can actually sing. begone all you evil-no-talent-bootweezils!

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 6:42 pm EST

two more words people… Kill Hannah – get their cd’s and discover what a killer rock band really sounds like – topics lean a bit toward younger issues, but the music is 100% killer and they could actually use the money. Matt Devine is one of the most talented songwriters on the planet and goes almost completely unnoticed. throw him a bone!

killmebilly | 6/15/2007, 6:45 pm EST

two more words… Pearl Jam – honesty, integrity, fair concert prices, wondeful rock music, no bull-cookies. check them out.

Veronica Lee | 6/15/2007, 7:21 pm EST

Actually I like Kelly. For all those who are so “delighted” that her tour is cancelled, — check all the tour statistics. There are not many who can fill the large arenas. I think she has a very good voice,…I’m not necessarily into all the screaming, but she does have a great voice and range. I am quite sure she will come back strong.

I myself am not crazy about her concerts, but still think she is talented. I’ve seen many, many artists live and there are a select few that I love…. and those are the ones who in addition to singing, have the ability to interact with the audience, who are energetic, witty, and fun.

I know that there were a lot of unhappy fans because of the cost vs. the length of her last series of concerts. Really, to perform only an hour or an hour and 5 minutes? is very disappointing.

I personally think the ticket sales have not been very good is becuase of the price of the tickets…they are way to expensive for the fan base she has…I love her to death but im not willing to shell out 70-100 bucks to go see her..i was pushing it at 40 and now i wont even get to see her so that sucks!! If they just lower the ticket price i think that the amount would go up and everyone would be happy!

The Irish Breeze | 6/15/2007, 8:13 pm EST

The lack of ticket sales says it all. The party’s over American Idol wanna be. Take what money you’ve managed to make, invest it, go to college and get a real life because the fabulous 15 minutes is long over. For the Love of God, grow up and move on.

Honestly,
It’s a real shame so many of you here are showing maturity by being so positive. For those who actually have something encouraging to say, I’m with you.

AS the old saying goes..”What comes around goes around”, people. Why be rude?

MegaSudz | 6/15/2007, 8:45 pm EST

Who’s High Pitch, I’m Kelly Clarkson

Jeff | 6/15/2007, 10:03 pm EST

I never paid her any attention before, really… knew the name just because I follow the news a bit, but I’m NOT a fan of “American Idol,” either, so I’ve never heard her sing except for little spots on the news and whatnot…

HOWEVER, with all this hullabaloo that’s going on now, and her saying “My December” is “her” album, her sort of “personal statement,” I’m almost tempted to buy it just for a listen… except that I’m REALLY not into much pop music at all. If the vocalist is REALLY GOOD, and/or the songs REALLY say something important, or are very soft and sexy or something, then maybe (I have Sarah McLaughlin’s “Stumbling Towards Ecstasy,” and “Engenue” by kd lang, for example of two true SINGERS).

So I don’t know… might have to actually HEAR a bit of Kelly before I actually spend any dollars… but I really think many folks spend way too much energy either “worshiping” OR “hating” celebrities and just need to “get a life.”

Carrie rulez | 6/15/2007, 10:13 pm EST

Kelly’s 15 minutes are up! Carrie is going to outsell her by far. Her first album will outsell Breakaway soon and become the best selling album by an Idol winner.

I think Kelly has been overexposed and people are sick of her now.

Chill out on the kelly-bashing | 6/15/2007, 11:05 pm EST

Does anyone remember the monstrous flop that was Mariah Carey a la “Glitter”? Mariah was by far much more successful at that point, world-wide audience, arguably one of the most talented vocalists of our time, penned her own songs, etc, etc – and she canceled a tour and had a flop of an album – people said the public was fed up of her diva ways. Then she came back a couple years ago, and ruled the airwaves for a bit. Kelly’s canceling her tour is a small bump in the road for someone that millions of people rallied behind to give her a chance in the music business. Her poor tour sales weren’t from her weight (though I don’t think she’s as much of a looker as she used to be, but I still dig her), or from her talent, or from any “trend” in music – but probably more so from socioeconomic factors such as some people have hinted at, with the ticket prices being higher than most. Somebody below mentioned her needing to find an identity – I’ve always heard that and wished it wasn’t true. I am a fan of musicians and vocalists who exhibit great talent. Sometimes an artist has such talent that they draw me from my normal musical taste to dabble in the pop arena b/c behind all the sugar and corporate pop glitz, there is someone who actually is a musician/vocalist, but is just riding with the club that gave them the opportunity, or the vehicle to promote their music to the masses. Kelly’s got musical chops, and though I don’t like all her songs, I admire the fact that she does a variety of styles with the rocky-type songs, and then her “breakaway” type songs. I’m sure this lack of “identity” is why her core fan base might be confused and not as loyal as the fan base of say someone like Mariah Carey, and I understand that – I just think it’s too bad that some artists have to pay the piper by worrying about this identity problem b/c people like Clive Davis are breathing down their necks for revenue, disabling them from exploring various musical styles. I’m hoping for the best for her cause she seems like a sweetie, and you can’t blame her for anything that’s happening – she’s just a kid with a chance and she’s trying to do something with it.
And to you haters, go listen to the song “Know It All” by Lagwagon, that’s my message to you about your pompous attitudes and your delusions of musical criticism (to each his own). I used to be like you but I’m not 15 anymore. Again, quoting Lagwagon, “you think talent’s exclusive to bands without pay” – morons!

Lou-Retty | 6/15/2007, 11:29 pm EST

What goes around comes around is right! Some Kelly fans have been so unbelievably hateful to fans of other “Idol” alumni & the other “Idols” themselves, so it is rather hilarious to watch them squirm now when their “can do no wrong” goddess is in hot water with singles tanking, bad CD reviews, a cancelled tour & no label support. Karma is a bitch, ain’t she?

Kenny | 6/16/2007, 12:00 am EST

she’s the best talent thats ever come out of American Idol… definetly Bankable. RUBIN,CLAY FANTASIA,TAYLOR HICKS, They’re the real loosers, not interested in buying any of their CD’s… The since you been gone video rocks…. and the club re-mix is hot!

Diana | 6/16/2007, 2:11 am EST

Hmm. I just figure, that’s what happens when you don’t make it on your own. ANy flippin American Idol winner is the product of 3 impartial and rude judges, and cannot be expected to win solely on musical talent. As the earlier said, what goes around comes around.

Sandi | 6/16/2007, 2:45 am EST

I actually didn’t care too much for her at first, didn’t hate her but didn’t really go ga-g,a and I don’t remember watching too much of the first season of AI. It was the music I wasn’t too fond of, seemingly formula songs. And the same for a lot of these American Idol winners. I loved Clay Aikens voice during the competition but the music he’s singing just isn’t cutting it for me-and talk about Diva! (+ I keep hoping he’ll come out with something I’m in love with.) Same for Ruben Studdard, great voice but typical R&B formula song (though I haven’t heard the entire albums for these singers but I wasn’t inspired to listen if I judge by what I hear on the radio) I heard Kelly on a TV show singing live and the layers I heard in her voice just sent chills through me and I instantly fell in love with her (when I told my sister, she said ‘eww’.) I don’t gasp that often at a singer’s voice, and just because someone sings loud and in key doesn’t make me want to listen to them sing. I seem to remember the astonishment of many that a white girl had a R&B sound to her voice and could belt out some great R&B among other styles. But she isn’t just a loud singer. I heard layers in her voice that I only remember hearing from singers like Pat Benatar, Etta James, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, etc. I could listen to a lot of songs by these singers again and again and hear something different every time. I have listened closer to more of Kelly’s songs and have actually grown to like many of them (I do enjoy Pop music and I have no problem admitting it.) Lots of musicians aren’t great vocalists and lots of vocalists don’t write their own music and songs, and there’s room in the world for all of them. The music buying public is enormous and I believe, like others here, that Kelly will find her way and get a style that completely shows off her voice. She is one of the few whose productions that I look forward to hearing.

hercules | 6/16/2007, 4:24 am EST

Kelly sounds great recorded, but I went to a concert last summer and she sounded the whole time like she needed to hock something up. Didn’t really impress me much, especially when she would yell the high notes instead of just singing them on key. I figure if you’re known for your voice rather than great writing or playing an instrument, you should at least be able to sing well live. She didn’t.

damo | 6/16/2007, 4:57 am EST

seriously the haters that hate her so much why are u even typing about her n wasting your time! kelly has already proved herself to be consistent and not just the flavour of the month! get a life and stop being little nerds who cant help but have a whinge! go kelly

angel | 6/16/2007, 11:03 am EST

I saw Kelly perform a completely forgettable song on arguably the worst Idol finale ever this year. I wasn’t impressed with her performance and that was disappointing since I knew she was going for a rock edge and I am a rock and roll girl at heart. Maybe she should stay in the genre that is her bread and butter…POP!

I must comment on all of the personal attacks that are posted here. Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing and it’s great that we have a forum to argue the merits of one’s talent. Kelly’s claim to fame is her voice, which was…and is…magnificent enough to capture America’s vote and to launch the Idol Machine which led her to finding a fan base and selling albums. So her tour got cancelled. So what? Yes it’s a bummer for those folks who had planned to buy tickets, but it by no means signals the end of her career…a career based on her voice, her talent, her popularity on and away from Idol. If you don’t like that, fine. But do not attack the way she looks. There is enough pressure in this world to be fake and phony and thin. Let Kelly be Kelly just the way she is.

If you hate a celebrity that you don’t even know AT ALL enough to launch a vicious personal attack, then maybe you should seek some therapy for yourself.

StutteringRoger | 6/16/2007, 12:07 pm EST

Just heard the new plan is for Kelly to front an all new band..The Erics…Eric Norris on guitar and sound effects, High Pitch Eric on bass and dead fish, and Eric the Midget on drums and balloons. Only one question…who’s High Pitch?

CAFAN | 6/16/2007, 3:08 pm EST

I think it’s time for Kelly’s true fans to stand by her. Negative comments do no one any good. She has proved herself to be a star and a good friend.
Be kind.

Sting | 6/16/2007, 3:59 pm EST

This kind of music sucks ass anyways….

and American Idol sucks too…

If you want to see a real band…come see the Police all summer long!!

Lay off!!! | 6/16/2007, 5:45 pm EST

As someone who’s seen Kelly perform twice I can only say that she is one of the best live performers I’ve seen – and I’ve seen U2, RHCP, Coldplay…etc.

As far as all of you saying her third cd hasn’t done as well as Breakaway goes, there’s a glaring hole in your logic, My December hasn’t even been released yet!! And all I’ve heard has been good. Sure Never Again hasn’t lit up the charts, but wait till you hear the follow-up ‘Sober’. I’ve heard the album and I way prefer it to Breakaway. It’s not as commercial, but lyrically it’s in a different league.

Save your judgements ’till you’ve heard the new cd. As for the tour being cancelled, well I’m glad in a way. Now Kelly can focus on actually promoting the album properly.

Simon | 6/16/2007, 6:26 pm EST

Even Avril Lavigne can sell out 15000 seat arenas. If Kelly can’t even do that, the next step down would be casinos followed by local bars. Sorry, but that is the reality folks. Call me a “hater” all you want, but some of you really need to accept the facts. Kelly has had a good run, and she is failing now because the fans that originally supported her have obviously moved on to other interests. I’m willing to bet most who are here defending her didn’t even try to buy ticket for her show. So if anyone is to blame for Kelly’s downfall, it is all of you. Saying you like Kelly means nothing to record companies. Unless you go to the concerts and buy the CDs and merchandise, the record companies and promoters will just drop her because they need to make cash. Face it. It’s over for Kelly. Move on.

Carrie rulez | 6/16/2007, 7:09 pm EST

Kelly is a pretty likeable person – I doubt that there are that many people that hate her.

Her fans, on the other hand, have made themselves extremely unpopular on the Internet due to their practice of viciously bashing anyone and everything they consider a threat to their precious Idol.

The ironic thing is that the most immature and vicious of her fans is actually a creepy old man. For Kelly’s sake, I hope that she and her security are aware of who he is.

i have heard the new cd and it is sick but not in a good way …… clarkson is losing her voice judging by the last few times i heard her sing live …… her career is not over but she has already peaked and it is all downhill from here …… and sober is a lousy choice for a single …… boring!

nov | 6/17/2007, 4:23 pm EST

i honestly think that she needs better producers, Kelly is very gifted and talented she got what it takes but she lacks alot of creativity…comin from a dude whos very music oriented: most of her music is boring….honestly not trying to talk shit orhate but thats real as it gets..she needs a smash single to murder folks off the charts..shes got the voice she just lacks creativity & messin with tha wrong producers….

Jon | 6/17/2007, 5:06 pm EST

I’m going to attempt to be as peaceful to both sides as I can here.

First of all, if you really are a fan of Kelly Clarkson (of which I am not in the least), you should probably take this whole thing as a blessing. As a singer/songwriter, I can tell you that the bigger the venue, the less important the crowd becomes, just out of necessity. If she plays smaller auditoriums and what not like before, then she’ll interact more with you, the fans. Isn’t that what you want?

But now, the other side of things, if this is indeed a case of her thinking she’s worth hundred dollar ticket prices, then perhaps this’ll centre her and ground her a bit. Even the Eagles don’t sell out at $100 a pop. And regardless of the extremely vocal and supportive fanbase that she has this early on in her career, she has a long way to go before she reaches the popularity of The Eagles or anyone else who’s endured the changes of music over time. She’s just new, that’s to be expected.

Name a great whether it be Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, or the Beatles, and then look up their history. Even they had to start small and work their way up. That’s one thing that hasn’t changed in REAL music. If she wants to be an actual artist, she’s going to have to work for it. And if she thinks she’s too good to work for it, then she won’t last.

Evan Joseph Hill | 6/17/2007, 11:11 pm EST

Kelly Clarkson is good…in a TV singing competition kind of way.

Will she ever be taken seriously as the artist she thinks she is? Of course not.

She should stick to just having fun and making the radio friendly songs that her fans eat up.

Lana20 | 6/18/2007, 8:18 am EST

I have personally heard kellys whole album its amazing. she wrote almost all the songs on this album. she is finally standing up for herself and being a true artist. I did buy the tickets for the boston mass show and i payed 185 bucks and would do it ten times again I saw her last yr too she was amazing! The album hasnt even been released yet, they choose poor timing on that a lot of people will not pay to see her perform a whole album they dont even know the words too.. its just not as fun!!!!!!

Get-A-Grip | 6/20/2007, 6:59 am EST

The arrogance displayed by little miss Kelly in her most recent interviews is truly stunning. She compares herself to Janis Joplin (AS-FREAKIN’-IF!!!!!!). She says she doesn’t care if her new CD makes money (I’m sure the Sony/BMG stockholders might take issue with that attitude) because it will be only one album in a long career of albums (not if they keep tanking, honey). She claims she’s written numerous #1 songs without ever once mentioning the professional songwriters who did the bulk of the work on those songs. She brags about ASCAP awards as if it makes her a great songwriter when they were for AIRPLAY (which was bought & payed for by RCA), not creative merit. And then she thinks she can sell out arenas that even legendary artists have trouble completely filling. What the hell has happened to the girl next door? She’s become one angry, egotistical, bitter little bitch, it would seem.

Myriahsheart | 6/23/2007, 7:34 pm EST

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Those of us who do neither, need to hold off on the hateful remarks. I’m not a big Kelly Clarkson fan either, but she’s making a VERY good living at something I could never do, and obviously enjoying it, so more power to her.

I think Kelly Clarkson is moving in the right direction for once! She might have gone a little to far, sounding almost emo. For the most part she seems to finally be taking over her career. As for people not liking this CD, they need to realize she only pop because that what her producers confined her to.

Kelly Clarkson is the worst thing to happen to the music business since Milli VAnilli. No, i thinks she’s even worse than them. And they lip sync. But at least they have good lyrics! I’d rather go to Detroit and listen to the cries of people getting beat down than listen to that garbage. And I’d turn the volume down, cept for the fact that i have to listen for the Z100 cue to call, so i can win prizes. I’t all just a piece of fucking shit, and i don’t like it.

What the hell??? Have you ever even BEEN to Detroit??? No you haven’t you arrogant jerk. It’s nothing like anyone makes it out to be. It’s as nice as Chicago.

And I love you Kelly. You have a great voice, up there with the Big Three: Whitney, Celine, and Mariah. You could beat out Christina any day. Nobody would want to compare you with the other women or them with each other because Earth cannot hold the power of all four of your voices to be compared to each other without exploding. :)
Love ya Kelly!
