Our Random, Genius “Sopranos” Theory: Meadow’s Pregnant!

6/13/07, 6:31 pm EST

sopranos“Anybody who wants to watch it, it’s all there,” David Chase told the Newark Star-Ledger Monday. In other words, fongool to anyone who wants an explanation. But if every detail of the Sopranos finale was there for a reason, why did Chase bring back Hunter, Meadow’s childhood friend? We suspect Meadow has something life-changing to discuss with her — the reason why Meadow wasn’t sipping the pinot grig at Bobby’s funeral; why, as Carmela noted, she’s changing her birth control; why she looks harried in that final scene, returning from a doctor’s appointment: she’s pregnant. What a perfect way to wrap up a show about intergenerational privilege and burden: by ceding it to the kid who’ll likely be the heir to “Cleaver IV.”

Perhaps it’s possible that someone other than tony did not survive the final episode. Maybe meado was killed, the reason i say this is right from the beginning, especially in the first series there are many references to “godfather 3″, e.g even sil’s impression of michael corlene is a reference from godfather 3 “everytime i get out, they pll me back in”, which of course ends with michael corlenes daughter in-advertantely being killed. Maybe thats why there was hints about meado e.g,hunter returning, the focus on her struggle to park her car, and her entrance being the end.

Don’t Stop Believing was released not to long before Meadow was born and right before Tony did his first hit for his Dad.

Yeah I think Tony is not dead because we are seeing the final scene from our perspective. When he comes into the dinner he looks over to the table where he is about to sit down and then we see it from his view point and he is actually sitting there in the distance at the table. When I first saw the episode I originally thought ow no we are getting the “he is just a normal guy ending, not a gangster” which was rumoured ages ago. But now it all makes sense. We got killed not T.

It made sence to me that the guy at the bar came out of the bathroom, and shot tony in the head as he was watching Meadow come in the door. My problem was why there was a hit on tony..After watching it again I think I got something. The guy in the crew with the glasses.(I apologize I forget his name) He knew Tony knew he was ratting and knew hed most likly get wacked. In desperation he hired a hit man to wack Tony( aka the guy at the bar). my humble theory

We, the audience, have been a witness to all of Tony’s murders, affairs, lies, etc for the past 8 years - It was time for us to go. We got set up, just like everyone else on the show that ever got whacked. We were invited to a quiet dinner at the ice cream parlor.
“You probably don’t even hear it when it happens,” Bobby says while they sit fishing in a small boat on a lake.
Tony didn’t look nervous at all in the final scene, like he knew what was going on.
Then nothing. Silence. Death.
Tony’s life goes on.

I totally thought she was pregnant, too! Carmela mentioned the Doctor’s visit and she seemed way too preoccupied while she was trying to park her car. She definitely had something major on her mind.

They brought Hunter back because she is played by David Chase’s daughter and she wanted to be in it, so he put her in.

I knew that the second I saw it, and, with the cat, provided the only two false notes in the entire show.

It was not plot-related. It was daddy’s girl wants, daddy’s girl gets.

Greasy meatballs.

Samharmon | 6/14/2007, 12:21 pm EST

Wasn’t she doing “sake bombs” with Tony as well?

Meadow was sipping wine at the get together with the Parisis later in the episode and Patrick actually turned down the offer for some pinot.

Like Star Trek, look for a Sopranos movie every few years.

Brkn | 6/14/2007, 11:10 am EST

And, of course Meadow is pregnant.

Tony’s not dead, you are! Why don’t people get it? Tony’s paranoid existence continues, the family trudges forward, the business moves on without Bobby and Sil. It all “goes on and on and on”. But, you, the viewer, are dead! Chase new many of the “car wreck” watchers wanted the big hit. So, he gave it to you - he took you out. Bang your dead! Just like that, you didn’t see it coming. Sound familiar? Heard that somewhere before?
Did people really watch this show or were they doing crossword puzzles, only to look up at the TV when they heard a swear word or the sound of gunfire?

For you, Nathan.

That’s a pretty snazzy theory, actually. I think I’m going to tell all my friends, and say I came up with it.

w0nderwall | 6/13/2007, 7:43 pm EST

Right now, I don’t give a fuck if the storyline running in David Chase’s head is that Tony wants to buy a pet elephant, just bring the show back for one more season. The Finale itself had new storylines branching out, for example, the indictments that Tony’s lawyer was warning him about, a potential rat in the crew (they believe it’s Carlo, but what about Paulie?), and what was Hunter doing back on the Sopranos? They should being the show back just to whack her!

Isaac | 6/13/2007, 7:41 pm EST

So, this Sopranos show. Any good?

David Chase | 6/13/2007, 7:19 pm EST

Bingo!

Nathan | 6/13/2007, 7:17 pm EST

That’s cool, is Tony dead or what?
