Timbaland Arrested In Germany? Prince Is Back On Columbia, And More

6/12/07, 9:07 am EST

  • Timbaland was busted by German cops over the weekend after a fight allegedly broke out between the legendary producer and a bar patron. The fracas took place in Cologne, Germany, where, after a Justin Timberlake concert, Timbaland and his posse allegedly attacked a man, Robert F, who called Timba the N word after he found the producer talking to his girlfriend. Timbaland went to jail; Robert F went to the hospital. The producer was released early Monday morning on bail.
  • Items belonging to Lou Pearlman, the mastermind behind the late ’90s onslaught of boy bands, will be auctioned off today in Florida in an attempt to earn back money lost by more than 1,000 investors and a dozen or so banks when Pearlman disappeared in January. Who wants a photo of Lou Pearlman and Britney Spears?
  • Rage Against the Machine will perform on August 24th at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. Queens of the Stone Age will open.
  • Prince is back on Columbia Records. The label-hopping artist will put out his next album Planet Earth, on Columbia on July 24.
  • Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos was honored last week when his lyrics were the subject of a lecture at a Berlin university. “In one of the main universities in Berlin yesterday, they had a lecture about my lyrics, which is funny,” the singer said. “It was called ‘The Depressive Dandy – the Lyrics of Eddie Argos.’ In Germany, they think I’m an intellectual, which is ridiculous.”

Comparing Prince to Dylan; Prince in the ’80s = Dylan in the ’60s, Prince’s only truly great ’90s album; (an edited to ten best tracks) Emancipation = Dylan’s only truly great ’70s album; Blood On The Tracks.
It then took Dylan 22 years to put out another classic (Time Out Of Mind). Will Prince beat him by 11 years by making Planet Earth a classic?

are you really trying to compare prince and bob dylan…why do people try to compare things that are pieces of art to be studied within themselves and not placed next to another…art is not better than other art…its just art…I mean really…

Hmm | 6/12/2007, 1:21 pm EST

Bob Dylan advanced pop music into the realm of genuine art. Prince did not.

Prince is a dandy man. Dylan is the original rebel icon. How can you compare the author of Only a pawn, With God on our side, Who killed Davy Moore, Hurricane, etc. to a man who wrote Cream, Get off, and Pussy control. Just does not compute….. It’s like comparing apples to airplanes….Dylan being the airplane and Prince being the fruit.

Germans do tell it like it is.

It’s a shame for us Germans. This man deserved the punches =)

Well... | 6/12/2007, 8:04 pm EST

At least this time Timbaland used his own beats.
