The Police Are on the Cover of Rolling Stone!

6/11/07, 6:36 pm EST

the police rolling stone

We’re stoked to announce that The Police will be gracing the next cover of Rolling Stone. The issue, which hits stands Wednesday in N.Y. and L.A. and Friday everywhere else, features an in-depth interview with the band conducted by David Fricke. In celebration of this extremely exciting issue, we’re unleashing an arsenal of Police items. Check back later this week for a retrospective Police photo gallery, a behind-the-scenes video from the cover shoot shot by Stewart Copeland’s son, an excerpt of the cover story, and the chance to write your own cover lines. This issue of Rolling Stone is also the first ever to be printed on carbon-neutral paper; it features a special report on the global climate crisis that includes a profile of Al Gore, a detailed examination of the effect of George W. Bush’s presidency on the global warming crisis and a proposed solution written by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Donald | 6/11/2007, 7:43 pm EST

I know Sting has been on the RS cover, but have The Police ever been on the cover before now?

Good job on this one, Rolling Stone.

Puke me | 6/11/2007, 7:53 pm EST

Ugghhh, kill me. The Police are highly overrated. And Sting has one of the biggest egos in the biz. Thanks RS. Another wasted cover.

Bob | 6/11/2007, 8:06 pm EST

White House Lies on Global Warming? Pssst…Global Warming is a lie. Your magazine has turned into nothing but liberal talking points for the DNC.

Kyle | 6/11/2007, 8:09 pm EST

“Turned into?” RS has been unashamedly, unabashedly liberal since its inception. Looks like somebody doesn’t read it for the articles…

Al Gore | 6/11/2007, 8:13 pm EST

I certainly think global warming is a lie.

Graham | 6/11/2007, 8:15 pm EST

Damn, I know you did it last time but i was hoping for a white stripes cover. You skipped the raconteurs, I figured you’d at least get the stripes.

Sonny Rutkowski | 6/11/2007, 8:31 pm EST

Al Gore did Global Warming the highest disservice – he contorted science in the name of politics and his own political gain.

Could you idiots throw aside political labels, learn the facts and realize global warming is a real issue?

thanx for staying true & keeping issues front & center…
dont listen to the nay-sayers…if the police want to rock again so be it & if you dont believe the earth is in crisis…then keep polluting…future generations will thank you .
cranks & wankers rule this planet

ihatemaryland88 | 6/11/2007, 9:37 pm EST

are you freaking kidding me?

Vladiato | 6/11/2007, 9:37 pm EST

Quite frankly, you can have an opinion on The Police and bash them to a pulp. Fact of the matter is that you’re the minority.

I’m stoked for their reunion tour, no matter how short lived it may/will be.

ihatemaryland88 | 6/11/2007, 9:39 pm EST

also how about a white stipes cover? im pissed

Kurt Cobain | 6/11/2007, 9:44 pm EST

ken | 6/11/2007, 10:50 pm EST

now that 80% hate bush why talk about the idiot?

Jeff | 6/11/2007, 11:41 pm EST

…how about a big round of applause for Andy Summers’ botox job?

Seriously kids, he’s 65 years old and his face is smooth as eggs!

If I had several hundred million dollars like he does, I could afford a few wrinkles. But that’s just me.

killyridols | 6/12/2007, 7:47 am EST

Is it just me or does that cover photo look pieced together? Almost like they couldn’t get them to pose together and took seperate shots and laid them all on top of each other. It’s prolly just all the photoshopping they all forced them to do, so they wouldn’t look old, that gives it that computer generated look.

earth | 6/12/2007, 9:41 am EST

global warming is bullsht

Armie | 6/12/2007, 9:47 am EST

If you don’t like Amy Winehouse or Sting or the Police you are an inbred tasteless slug.

Marty P. | 6/12/2007, 10:08 am EST

Coulda been the mighty Van Halen on the cover if Eddie wasn’t such a mean drunk with a out of control ego.

marnr67 | 6/12/2007, 10:22 am EST

dude, Sting is hate-able. the Police however are not.

kingery | 6/12/2007, 10:59 am EST

$250 for floor seats???? NO WAY!!! Greedy bastards.

Lara | 6/12/2007, 12:09 pm EST

They’ve been on the cover twice before. I love the Police! Best band on earth.

amyn | 6/12/2007, 12:15 pm EST

the Police are still awesome…I may be very old but few bands today can kick ass on stage like the Police still do at 55+ …Thanks RS

MJ | 6/12/2007, 12:40 pm EST

Andy Summers is one of the most underrated rock guitarists there is!

Jerry Falwell | 6/12/2007, 1:09 pm EST

Global Warming is impossible.

God controls the thermostat, and has for the last 7000 years (since the world was created).

God is a Republican, and would vote for anyone who believes the Bible literally.

I’m a sheep

Shucks | 6/12/2007, 1:12 pm EST

Would anyone mind explaining where Sting’s shirt tail is coming from on the cover?

mrgradenko | 6/12/2007, 1:26 pm EST

ha! shucks, nice catch! thats really strange.

The Police are an unbelievable band. Their musicianship is like no other rock band. Andy is a brilliant guitarist and the way they work(ed) together created a chemistry that we will never see in another band.

Jacob | 6/12/2007, 1:26 pm EST

Whtie Stripes would have been great. Oh wait, there not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Kelly | 6/12/2007, 1:36 pm EST

Global Warming is a hoax. And Al Gore is nuts. The emissions that came out of the tailpipes of horses were much more lethal pollutants that those now coming out of the tailpipes of cars.

Crimson Citizen | 6/12/2007, 1:58 pm EST

Police = “cool” band for aging hipsters. Lukewarm music from a lukewarm band.

White Stripes = gods of music and rock and roll. everything youd ever want in music.

yeah.

Jacob | 6/12/2007, 2:59 pm EST

Lets give a holler to the White Stripes.
The Police are old and have no new music. Its a Greatest Hits tour. The don’t deserve a front cover

you know who | 6/12/2007, 3:58 pm EST

i say that we put Bela Fleck on the cover.

Rev. | 6/12/2007, 4:15 pm EST

yes global warming is fake. So are dinosaurs and McDonalds.

Jose_Peru | 6/12/2007, 4:34 pm EST

Wooow THE POLICE on cover!!! One of the hottest bands of rock’n roll history… Basic rock, Guitar+Bass+Drums, simple and at the same time complex music, THE POLICE is more than punk-reggae rock is the virtuosity of three awesome musicians that sounds unique mixing the music of world with rock…Andy’s chords and spaces, Stewart’s beats and Sting’s voice and compositions sounds into a pure own style…THE POLICE rules the entire Planet Earth!!!

PAOLO | 6/12/2007, 5:32 pm EST

Well deserved cover for the Police. One of the greatest bands of all time!!!

Bob | 6/12/2007, 7:21 pm EST

Yes. The Police. The last great band.

Immigration girl | 6/12/2007, 8:43 pm EST

The Police are one of the best bands of all time. Congratulations guys! Nice to have you guys back on top this time around!!!

maria | 6/13/2007, 1:46 am EST

thanks RS such a tasteful choice for a cover, The Police are the best band ever!! and they WILL ROCK this summer!!! even if they are 55+ years old—STING IS SOOO HOT

Ryan | 6/13/2007, 8:16 am EST

Its great to see The Police back together and on teh cover, but am I the only one who’s noticed that most if not all the covers from past year or two have looked the same? (except for the 1000th issue cover and the 40th ann. cover) White background and the band or artist. Sounds fine, but I miss the imagination of previous covers from way back. Call Mark Seliger please.

Music bashers, get it: modern bands like White Stripes respect and owe gratitude to artists like The Police and other “old” bands you don’t like/listen to/are uninformed about. Remove your blinders; welcome to the music continuum.

Ashley Blair | 8/13/2007, 7:38 pm EST

The last great rock band was and still is Blondie.
I have heard nothing but negative concert reviews, yet here nothing but the opposite about Blondie’s touring of the last 9 years. The police sounded dated 5 years after their last album, so I dont get the hype? I hear a Blondie album and its like a brand new album, they never date, yet The Police sounded so early 1980’s.

Deborah Harry is 62 and kicked ass recently on tour, so what happened to Sting, maybe too much money in his pockets?

Mattma | 9/12/2007, 2:48 pm EST

Excellent article. Best band ever.

rea | 10/3/2007, 10:05 pm EST
