Every band is influenced from another band. MCR has intelligent lyrics and music and tremendous emotion. There is so much depth to the songs. MCR does NOT deserve all the hate that they are getting. Albums should be evaluated rationally and fairly for their strengths and weaknesses- and MCR definitely has both (although in my opinion, MUCH more strengths). Saying they suck and have NOTHING redeeming about them is ignorant. They obviously have talent or their CDs wouldn’t be getting all the great reviews. If you don’t like them, fine. But their music has a lot of depth and means a lot to others. And wile MM does have depth to his music, Marilyn Manson ASKS for hate and controversy more than MCR based on his superior attitude and vocal anti-christian beliefs.

Hm.. well, I think Marilyn Manson is a genius and I enjoy some of the songs MCR has. Their first real popular song, “I’m not okay” was very catchy and energetic. The thing is well, they are pretty emo. I say this mostly reguarding Mr. War’s comment about them putting all of their thoughts and feelings into it. Emo.. emotional.. you know. They also have more of that style too. Sadly it’s the new thing; you remember when we were all in high school and we (or I assume we because of the topic) were that group they dubbed the goths? Maybe even the freaks? Well slowly this has been changing. Ever since the ska and straight edge hardcore became popular this group has been wearing tighter and tighter pants, and probably crying while they cut themselves. There’s nothing wrong with that either.. just it’s a bit whorish to advertise it don’t you think? They (MCR) does not seem to be like that, even with their pushing the whole school shootings thing with “Teenagers”. Marilyn Manson tries to distance himself from those kinds of things because of Columbine. He’s probably just pissed all these bands are doing the same dark and violent thing, and taking a shot at the biggest of this type. Who cares? I wrote something similar to this on a fuse blog, I would like to write it here too.To me Manson is all about shock and My Chemical Romance are all about storytelling and giving that storytelling a heart with every song and album, because they are all heart. Marilyn Manson has never called himself “goth”. He has always defined the music he and his band make as “metal”.

That said, at least the last generation’s gothy metal folks (Manson, NIN, etc.) were doing the proper rock-starish thing to do and looking to offend or challenge people. These emo kids just want everyone to like them- how… bubblegum pop.
