No Doubt Hit the Studio; Gwen Stefani Oversees Proceedings From Afar

6/7/07, 4:51 pm EST

No Doubt

No Doubt are going into the studio next month to work on their first new album in six years – no matter that Gwen Stefani is on tour through the fall. “The three of us are going to lay down some songs with music only,” drummer Adrian Young says. “When she gets done with the tour we’ll all be there to do it. We’ve probably got four albums worth of ideas demoed.” Young describes the new songs as “unlike anything else we ever made – they’re all over the place stylistically.”
According to Young, Stefani just got the first batch of first songs and he’s waiting to hear her input. The group has been inactive since a 2004 co-headlining tour with Blink-182. “We’ve been together since 1987 and we never took a break until three summers ago,” Young says. “Now the break’s been pretty long, so I think we’re not burning anymore. It’s kind of nice to be hungry again.” Stefani has had a very active break – releasing two monster solo albums and touring the world twice – but Young says she’s ready to fall back into No Doubt as soon as the tour is done. “Gwen’s a workaholic,” he says. “She likes to constantly be working.” Young suspects the new record will come out sometime in 2008.

Gwen was NEVER Hip-hop or r&b (Luxurious is r&b.thats it!)

Gwen SOLO was a BIG mix of 80s,electronica,Pop,Rock,Drum n Bass and Indie..ish kinda songs

(early winter and wonderful life that she did with KEANE)

But when shes with No doubt she is PROPER Rock.Punk.Glam Rock.Ska.

I just hate when people call her hip-hop just because they couldnt categorize songs like wind it up(its a mix of Drum n bass Electronica Glam rock by the way…she said so herself) not hip-hop!!

I CANT WAIT 4 the new album. So excited!!!!!!!

Cassie | 6/24/2007, 2:15 pm EST

Oh my god! It’s about time! I was at the Gwen concert last night in Irvine and when No Doubt came out, I almost had a heart attack!!! I saw them on the 2004 tour and I …… can’t….wait!!!!!

DOLLFACE | 6/23/2007, 12:56 pm EST

1992 THEY CAME OUT WITH A SONG CALLED MOVE ON HINTING ABOUT HOW THEY ALL ND CAME ABOUT..”5 DIFFERENT STYLES WE HAVE ALL MESHED TOGETHER”(ERIC STEFANI WAS INTHE GROUP UNTIL THE TRAGIC KINGDOM 1995) AND THEY ALL HAVE THEY DIFFERENT INFLUENCES… GWEN ON HER OWN IS POP/GLAM ROCK AND SHE EXPRESSED THOSE STYLES THRU HER ALBUMS. WHEN THEY ARE ALL TOGETHER U GET THIS CRAZY MIX OF GLAM ROCK/PUNK/SKA/ROCK N ROLL THAT U CANT DEFINE… AND THATS WHY EVERYONE IS ANTICIPATING THEIR NEXT ALBUM, TO SEE WHAT CURVE BALL THEY THROW AT US NEXT…WHO KNOWS THEY MAY JUST PULL A MARIAH AND COMEBACK

I’m sorry but all of you people know nothing about music. ND collectively decided to take a break, it was not all Gwen. Broaden your taste in music really. I loved Gwen solo stuff. It was suppose to be different then ND. You can’t say ND music is better then her solo music. You can’t compare the two. Two completely different styles. I always new ND would be back and I’m glad they are, but no need to diss her solo projects. Grow up!

Jen | 6/17/2007, 9:27 am EST

I’m so excited!! It’s about time!! I love No Doubt! Gwen’s solo stuff is candy pop-not memorable but No Doubt music is timeless.

cant wait to hear the new no doubt!! i grew up listenin to them so when gwen took a break to do her solo albums it was sad. gwen is an amazing artist and has a amazing voice. and had a few amazing songs, but i prefer her to the punk rock that she started out as then the hip hop/r&b artist

I told everyone they’d be back. I agree with some, of course I prefer No Doubt to the solo stuff. But Gwen did do exactly as she said she was going to, and I enjoy it. They are…dance records. Not badges of emotional truth. But I am a little concerned about Gwen missing out on all the song writing, though…My favorite album was ROS, and that’s when she wrote the most…

it’s about time that my favorite band comes back! i just hope it’s better than rock steady. i was a little let down by that one after the awesomeness of return of saturn.

Wendy | 6/8/2007, 11:40 pm EST

Glad that No Doubt is getting back together. I don’t like Gwen’s solo stuff - prefer her singing lead for No Doubt!

Felicia | 6/8/2007, 10:26 pm EST

I loved Gwen’s solo stuff but it does not hold a candle to No Doubt. I have been waiting for new ND stuff for years and it is nice to know that it is finally going to happen.

Jabahey | 6/8/2007, 6:05 pm EST

Oh good. Now Gwen Stefani will suck less than she does as a solo artist. But only a little.

Randy Renner/ San Diego | 6/8/2007, 5:30 pm EST

Great news Gwen with a real great band and not just a bunch of crap loops and overblown pop production!
I love No Doubt / hate her solo stuff.

Oh my god have I been waiting for this!A dream come true!They started a new genre.Theyre amazing.This is great.I’ll be first in line to get it…but it’ll be a while….);

Mieke | 6/8/2007, 4:39 pm EST

Can’t Wait! Still a long time though :(

George | 6/8/2007, 3:50 pm EST

I am not generally a fan of the kind of pop music Gwen has been making the last few years. But it is catchier and more fun than most of its type. Its also exactly what she said she was going to do. No Doubt did some very solid work and I hope it continues. No Doubt is better than solo Stefani but solo Stefani proves she can do more than I would have expected.

"JC" Lagos | 6/8/2007, 3:32 pm EST

I like no doubt but hey let’s face it: Gwen Stefani is 3/4 ND, the guys just limite her!, and for everybody if you didn’t see it and feel it comming (Gwen solo career) on Rock Steady You actually are the crap, ok the sweet escape album it’s not l.a.m.b. but it’s no that bad and l.a.m.b was just summertime anthem you know that the best song is what you waiting for and not hollaback girl, i’ll be expecting the back on track of no doubt i really want rock/dance the best rock/dance the world ever saw, heard and felt!, it would be amazing if they do rock/dance!!!!

yumtastychicken | 6/8/2007, 3:29 pm EST

Gwen’s solo albums were obviously targetted to a different type of crowd. I liked a couple songs and as for the rest, really wasn’t my thing. It takes a lot of guts to do something different and creating music her fans aren’t expecting. Her solo albums were totally unexpected and for that, I give her props. I personally would’ve taken out some songs but that’s just my opinion.

laurie damrose | 6/8/2007, 3:24 pm EST

cool!! i can’t wait!

Rich | 6/8/2007, 3:11 pm EST

Yawn…..

Long | 6/8/2007, 3:09 pm EST

Great news, Gwen, now we’re talking!

Michael | 6/8/2007, 1:33 pm EST

No Doubt is WAY better than solo Stefani. This album is overdue. Long overdue.

Orion | 6/8/2007, 1:19 pm EST

Gwen needs ND and of course visa versa - her solo stuff is pure crap!

Martin | 6/8/2007, 11:08 am EST

I cant wait. No Doubt is an amazing band and they dont get the cred they deserve. I really enjoyed Gwen’s solo work. I’m really open when it comes to music and open minded people just seem more happier.

Liam Gallagher | 6/8/2007, 9:47 am EST

Great timing, too. Right after Gwen’s 2nd solo album bombed.

love it. | 6/8/2007, 9:32 am EST

:0 nice legs GWEN!

love it. | 6/8/2007, 9:31 am EST

Bush should get together and tour with No Doubt. People forget that No Doubt can rock. A little Ska/ Rock, WOULD BE GOOD!! :)

AmoriZep | 6/8/2007, 9:05 am EST

Gwen Stefani is a joke…couldn’t agree more with that angle RockGod…this is one of my favorite bands from the 90’s, but if i hear anything that they put out have the word “bananas” in it, i’m taking the radio, cd player, ipod, or whatever i happen to be listening to damn thing on, and tossing the bastard!

No Doubt RoCkS! | 6/8/2007, 8:29 am EST

can´t wait to hear some new stuff of ND!!!
but gwen solo is doing a very good job, too!!!
I love gwen, shes amasing :D

MARK | 6/8/2007, 6:25 am EST

This is crap. Yes, I’m excited that No Doubt will have another record on the way. But the fact that Gwen is skipping out on the creative process is retarded. They should just wait until she’s done with her tour, and then get to work.

Bri | 6/7/2007, 11:07 pm EST

Awesome! I love No Doubt and Gwen’s solo output, so this is wonderful news for me! Hopefully they will return to the pop rock sound that made them famous. Can’t wait for more news!

matt | 6/7/2007, 11:05 pm EST

No Doubt is a good band that deserves more credit. I’m glad to hear they are coming out with a new album. Gwen’s solo stuff doesn’t compare to ND.

RockGod | 6/7/2007, 11:04 pm EST

Gwen Stefani is a god damn SELLOUT!…. if anything, Bush needs to get back together, and tour small clubs, give us some real music/talent to listen to!

hellosubmarine | 6/7/2007, 10:58 pm EST

I am excastic that No Doubt is getting back together. There is no doubt (no pun intended) that Gwen Stefani is a strong performer on her own but the ska influenced tunes that No Doubt punches out is worth having around again.

Elliot | 6/7/2007, 10:32 pm EST

About time. Gwen’s solo work was a lot weaker than the band stuff, IMHO.
