Rage Against The Machine To Tour? Pete Wentz Denies Working On Ashlee’s Record, Marilyn Manson Hates On My Chem

6/6/07, 9:03 am EST

Rage Against the Machine

  • Rage Against the Machine are counting down to … something. This mysterious Web site has appeared. It features two clocks, one counting down to some kind of announcement to be made five days from now, and another counting down to August 24th of this year. The site is registered to Live Nation, which suggests that the band may soon announce a major tour. More details to come …
  • Pete Wentz has commented on the rumor that he is working on his girlfriend Ashlee Simpson’s new album. “That’s pretty much the silliest recent rumor I have read,” Wentz wrote in an email. “Mostly [because] I want no part in selling a relationship. I mean, it is not true.” We’ll believe it when we see zero songs credited to Wentz on the album.
  • Marilyn Manson has accused My Chemical Romance of ripping him off, and says he’s written a song about it. “Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery,” off Manson’s new record Eat Me, Drink Me, is apparently about what Manson sees as Gerard Way’s attempt to dress like him. “I’m embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I’ve done,” Manson said. “If they want to identify with me then here’s a razor blade. Call me when you’re done and we’ll talk.”
  • Saddle Creek Records is opening its own venue in Omaha, Nebraska as part of a sort of indie rock hub which will include the label’s offices, an art house theater and the club, Slowdown (named in homage to the early-’90s band of same name which included members of current Saddle Creek bands).
  • Rumor has it Britney Spears is a candidate for a judging spot on American Idol. The show experienced a major ratings slip this year and there’s speculation that Randy and Paula won’t be returning for another season.
  • After months and months of pretending it would never happen, Graham Coxon has finally agreed to participate in a new Blur album, The Sun reports. The whole band will apparently be heading back into the studio in November. Nice.
  • Members of Ra Ra Riot, whose drummer was found dead last weekend have issued the following statement: “We are all in a state of shock. Time has been dragging on slowly since the early hours of Saturday morning. This has been a difficult time filled with numbing sadness and many unanswered questions. We all have tremendous love for our friend, and we have an endless supply of wonderful memories of him. This has felt like the unraveling plot of a tragic piece of fiction…nothing would have prepared us for such an immense loss.”

Pete and Gerard Fan Girl | 11/30/2007, 7:57 pm EST

They said all goth people scare the living s*** outta me. Goth’s are wierd. Emo is in. Manson will never be as cool as Gerard. Gerard would never try to immatate a “guy” with a chick’s name. My Chemical Romance is……….Well, they just plain rock.

Britt | 11/30/2007, 7:45 pm EST

My Chemical Romance is awseome, and I doubt gerard is trying to copy off of that wierdo. really marilyn mansen scares the living shit outta me.

Slms | 7/9/2007, 9:03 am EST

The Rage show is rumored to be at Alpine Valley on August 24th. Whether this is a single show or a kick-off of a full tour…I don’t know. But, they won’t do a second show the next day because Dave Matthews Band will be performing the whole weekend there.
I AM PUMPED FOR THE RATM SHOW! I WILL BE THERE!

Mark T | 6/7/2007, 7:49 am EST

AHAHAHAHA!! RATM one trick pony?? Morello overrated??!

like my favorite band tool says so well, Penny….

“You MUSTA been…HIGH! HIGH! HIIIIIIIIIIIGH!”

out of your mind…silly talk. RATM is what this world needs right now…

Will Fearless | 6/6/2007, 8:21 pm EST

A Blur and Rage reunion in the same news brief? This is too good to be true.

Blackwood | 6/6/2007, 8:21 pm EST

p.s: gerard is hot, manson is not.
there, so no ripoff posible!

why would gerard want to look like him anyway?? i think manson has a little problem with self-importance and hasn’t checked the mirror in a very long time…

mentosispatient | 6/6/2007, 5:22 pm EST

Manson: It’s fashion, get over it. Fashion is shallow…

Aaron D. | 6/6/2007, 4:24 pm EST

Manson’s just trying to drum up interest in yet another ho-hum album in his increasingly banal career.

I wonder which 80’s cover he’ll do next?

Penny | 6/6/2007, 3:27 pm EST

RATM is a one trick pony. Morello is way overrated.

Blackwood | 6/6/2007, 2:58 pm EST

reading all of the posts…

who isn’t a ripoff these days???

I think humanity in general has already ran out of new things to come up with, I mean, there’s only so much that can be invented.

the rest is a mix/fusion of those already invented things, and then there’s mixes of mixes, and so on.

by the way, that’s not an original remark/criticism either.

I’ve got no love for MCR, but I think Manson would have a lot more credibility in his starement if his new album wasn’t such a huge sucky emo-fest.

Also, to everyone who says that says that Manson rips off Alice Cooper (however valid hat may be), I say do a little research on the late Rozz Williams.

Marilyn Manson and Britney Spears should do American Idol together. Then the ratings would really go up. Maybe throw Pete Wentz in too. Then there’d be three girl judges (if Paula left).

anonymouse | 6/6/2007, 1:15 pm EST

I always thought My Chemical Romance were more of a late 90’s Smashing Pumpkins ripoff than a Marylin Manson ripoff.

Trance | 6/6/2007, 12:59 pm EST

wentz doesnt want to sell a relationship? who said anything about selling? this just proves he doesnt know any other reason to make music besides selling it.

MR | 6/6/2007, 12:56 pm EST

The Rage thing is a show at Alpine Valley on August 24th. The show starts at 5pm with a few bands opening up. One of them might be Muse. Since the 24th is on a Friday i’m sure a 2nd show will get added for Saturday.

mozboy | 6/6/2007, 12:50 pm EST

Marilyn Manson accusing anyone of being “sad and tired” is hilarious!!

LOL | 6/6/2007, 12:47 pm EST

You can say anything about Manson’s music, and I would probably agree with the criticisim, but you’ve GOT to give him credit for his humour! :D The dude cracks me up. He’s excellent

Beelay | 6/6/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Can’t wait to see Brit barf all over herself and her cottage cheese ass on National TV

Bangers-N-Mash | 6/6/2007, 12:40 pm EST

This just made my day. A Blur reunion, let’s all pray that a tour follows the album with the whole band intact. Goodness, I’d pay near anything to go see that.

James | 6/6/2007, 12:30 pm EST

Wait, Manson’s crying about being ripped off?

He’s just a modern day Alice Cooper. Do we hear Alice crying?

TEABAG | 6/6/2007, 12:29 pm EST

Manson is really trying hard to get attention now that no one really cares about him.

Notsid | 6/6/2007, 12:23 pm EST

Schultz.. nobody said they had to, I was just trying to make sure nobody started going, “yeah, and all those dudes hate MCR for it” or whatever.

TEABAG | 6/6/2007, 12:22 pm EST

I would cream my pants if RAGE went on tour again.

Schultz | 6/6/2007, 12:16 pm EST

ummm… that would be Corgan… If I could type it wouldn’t be an issue… Sheet!

BTW RATM live kick major ass!

Schultz | 6/6/2007, 12:15 pm EST

What the hell does Spears know about music anyway? Wait… I guess that makes her the perfect judge for that show.

As far as Manson bagging on MCR, he might be a bit cry baby-ish about the whole thing. But if MCR had an ounce of originality, there wouldn’t be an issue, now would there? (nor would other music greats, i.e. Brian May and Billy BOrgan, et. al. have to give any sort of blessing.)

geez | 6/6/2007, 12:10 pm EST

manson wrote mechanical animals, MCR didn’t, PERIOD.

Scott P | 6/6/2007, 11:55 am EST

I like abandonedstation’s guess for the meaning of the RATM clock best. What I want to know is, why is a band that is supposed to be as rebellious and anti-corporate as RATM working with Live Nation (formerly known as Clear Channel, the company that has nearly ruined the concert industry)? Makes about as much sense as them reuniting now instead of in 2004 when we really needed them.

thepatientfearegret | 6/6/2007, 11:51 am EST

Manson’s music is dead.

Notsid | 6/6/2007, 11:31 am EST

If Rage Against the Machine Tour, they need to have separate buses if only to keep them from breaking up and making us hear Audioslave again.

If Wentz were to collaborate, then we still would see no songs crediting him. Besides, I think Robert Smith is enough

On American Idol, I guess Courtney is officially out then? Though they can’t blame Paula and Randy for the ratings slip. It was Sangina and that obnoxious chick who looked like she was birthed in a Hot Topic.

On Manson’s Statement, I thought I’d mention a few things

a) Manson does this every time he has an album to promote
b) On the upcoming download festival, MCR are headling the first day, on the second, Manson is opening for Linkin Park
c) MCR ALSO rip off David Bowie, Billy Corgan, and Queen, but since Corgan and Brian May have both given their blessings, I don’t think it matters
d)He’s just embarrassed because he thought the VT stuff would grab him some blame like with Columbine, and it didn’t. And then MCR put out a single about gun violence and put an anti-violence notice at the end, right after a couple of journalists did hint at blaming them. Which means they handled it better than Manson did.
e)MCR get slagged off by bands all the time and only responded once and since have resolved never to discuss it again, coupled with the fact that Manson said this in a british newspaper, just show Manson knew it would be an easy target
f) He said this a year ago too whilst also saying the same about Karen O, Green Day, Interpol, 30 Seconds to Mars, and REM.

Stuporfly | 6/6/2007, 10:46 am EST

I uses big words that I don’t understand, to impress some random blogger ppl that I have never met. Aren’t I a dick

Stuporfly | 6/6/2007, 10:37 am EST

I’ve been hoping for a Blur reunion for ages, even with the generally brilliant solo work from both Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon. If this proves to be true, I’ll have a full-on Britpop boner for a year.

Poor Marilyn Manson - In a desperate effort to cling to some sort of imaginary relevance he’s going after the monumentally irrelevant. Who’s next? New Found Glory?

Mr. Dart | 6/6/2007, 10:34 am EST

Agreed, Satan. God… I haven’t said that in a while.

Anyways, Manson is irrelevant now. There was a time when he and his band were really a big part of the music scene. Goth is dead. Period. Sadly, Emo is alive and kicking… and apparently whining about how unfair life is. *sniffle… where’s my guy-liner?

Popular music sucks right now.

abandonedstation | 6/6/2007, 10:32 am EST

Rage is counting down the time to when Zach is going to start to consider thinking about when to begin planning to write his solo album.

Pete Wentz is right. He and Ashlee aren’t writing songs together. You have to have talent to do that.

You call that picking a fight, Manson? You’ve got to attack the motherfucker with razorblades. Not just suggest that he do it himself. Publicity’s gotten a lot weirder these days, pal…

Britney on AI? Sure, why the fuck not. Paula couldn’t sing, either. Any money to combat the ratings slip, part of the show is gonna become a ‘big-brother-they-all-live-in- the-same-house’ thing.

Graham Coxon’s ego needs fellating. Blur is back.

no ego - www.abandonedstation.com

Kyle | 6/6/2007, 10:30 am EST

Who didn’t see a Rage tour coming? Talk about the worst-kept secret of the decade.

m. | 6/6/2007, 10:28 am EST

marilyn who?

EMINEM | 6/6/2007, 10:11 am EST

see Matt agrees with me, who do you got working over there the “special” group from high school.

Larry | 6/6/2007, 10:09 am EST

Manson needs to get over himself. I love the man, but now he’s just reaching so that he can make sure attention is paid to him and his new CD (which is not half bad). Anyway, he stole from Alice Cooper and David Bowie. I don’t hear him apologizing to them. MCR are not emulating anything that he has done.

Zachra | 6/6/2007, 10:08 am EST

Manson rips off Alice Cooper and Nine Inch Nails.

My Chemical Romance rips off Alice Cooper and Queen.

I really don’t see Manson’s point, but Alice has got a gripe if he sees fit to express it.

I’ll belieive Manson when Gerard Way grows boobs and puts out a lame album like “Mechanical Animals”.

matt | 6/6/2007, 10:01 am EST

you spelled band wrong in your blur write up, buck up your writing you lazy sods!

EMINEM | 6/6/2007, 9:59 am EST

RS, you guys need a proof reader, i aint never saw no so many spelling mistakes ever before!

SATAN | 6/6/2007, 9:58 am EST

manson is just mad because he has become irrelevant through complacency by his music. Now he has to pick on the new top dog. I’m not a my chem fan, but i realize manson needs to generate publicity through desperate attempts of spitting venom.
