- Rage Against the Machine are counting down to … something. This mysterious Web site has appeared. It features two clocks, one counting down to some kind of announcement to be made five days from now, and another counting down to August 24th of this year. The site is registered to Live Nation, which suggests that the band may soon announce a major tour. More details to come …
- Pete Wentz has commented on the rumor that he is working on his girlfriend Ashlee Simpson’s new album. “That’s pretty much the silliest recent rumor I have read,” Wentz wrote in an email. “Mostly [because] I want no part in selling a relationship. I mean, it is not true.” We’ll believe it when we see zero songs credited to Wentz on the album.
- Marilyn Manson has accused My Chemical Romance of ripping him off, and says he’s written a song about it. “Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery,” off Manson’s new record Eat Me, Drink Me, is apparently about what Manson sees as Gerard Way’s attempt to dress like him. “I’m embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I’ve done,” Manson said. “If they want to identify with me then here’s a razor blade. Call me when you’re done and we’ll talk.”
- Saddle Creek Records is opening its own venue in Omaha, Nebraska as part of a sort of indie rock hub which will include the label’s offices, an art house theater and the club, Slowdown (named in homage to the early-’90s band of same name which included members of current Saddle Creek bands).
- Rumor has it Britney Spears is a candidate for a judging spot on American Idol. The show experienced a major ratings slip this year and there’s speculation that Randy and Paula won’t be returning for another season.
- After months and months of pretending it would never happen, Graham Coxon has finally agreed to participate in a new Blur album, The Sun reports. The whole band will apparently be heading back into the studio in November. Nice.
- Members of Ra Ra Riot, whose drummer was found dead last weekend have issued the following statement: “We are all in a state of shock. Time has been dragging on slowly since the early hours of Saturday morning. This has been a difficult time filled with numbing sadness and many unanswered questions. We all have tremendous love for our friend, and we have an endless supply of wonderful memories of him. This has felt like the unraveling plot of a tragic piece of fiction…nothing would have prepared us for such an immense loss.”
