R. Kelly Owns The Charts, Amy Winehouse’s Big Jump, Check Out The New Arctic Monkeys Video

6/6/07, 2:50 pm EST

R. Kelly

  • Chart Roundup: R. Kelly shot straight to the top of the Billboard charts as his new album Double Up sold 386,000 copies in its first week. Fellow big sellers Maroon 5 and Linkin Park came in at #2 and #3, respectively. This week’s most impressive climber was Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black, which jumped from #11 to #6 on the strength of her Rolling Stone cover … and her appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, and the fact that Best Buy sold her album for $7.99 last week, and the fact that said album is awesome. As is the norm these days, total sales were down 10.6 percent compared to the same week last year.
  • Watch those Arctic Monkeys monkey around with clowns in their new video for “Fluorescent Adolescent.”
  • New Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo agrees with Kirk Hammett’s assertion that the new, Rick Rubin-produced Metallica album will be much, much better than Reload. We’ll all find out when the album comes out in early 2008.
  • Listen to Velvet Revolver butcher the Talking Heads then listen to Queens of the Stone Age do justice to Tom Waits.
  • Remember that Bob Marley USB stick we told you about? Images from the actual Exodus USB are up. They should’ve hired our photo editor to design it.

If you want a good laugh, just read the lyrics of wordsmith R. Kelly.
It is fantastic for him that there are that many people who will buy his music.
Freewill.

i like reload. fuel, where the wild things are…..those are great tracks. granted, not all the songs are that good…..but a classic album nonetheless.

Shouldn’t R. Kelly be in jail right about now?

Defender of the Faith | 6/7/2007, 9:17 am EST

Is the VR cover of Psycho KIller on their forthcoming album?

Me | 6/7/2007, 7:19 am EST

R. Kelly? Who on Earth listens to, much less buys, that crap?!?!?

abandoned station…that is hilarious, man.

What a statement, better than reload… that’s insulting.

the wacky thing about producers is that they actually don’t write the songs…so those bands in reality either ruined themselves or just plain ol’ sucked.

Brendan o'brain | 6/6/2007, 7:32 pm EST

Rick Rubin, the worst producer of the decade, he ruined linkin park, audioslave, rage against the machine, red hot chilli peppers, and many more.
Now is the turn of Metallica.

Metallica’s new album will be better than reload?
That’s like saying walking down the street is better than being violently stabbed in the ears.

I expect there to be a mini opera on this album called “I Like to Stick it in Little Girls.”
