New Bob Dylan Flick Gets Cool Poster, 50 Cent Plans For the Future, Lily Allen’s Alcoholism

6/5/07, 9:04 am EST

bob dylan I'm Not There

  • What seems to be the poster for hotly anticipated Bob Dylan inspired film I’m Not There has appeared online. We recognize Cate Blanchett from earlier photos, so the other Bobs shown must be Christian Bale or Richard Gere or Heath Ledger or one of the other actors (six in total) playing incarnations of Dylan in the Todd Haynes-directed flick.
  • The Game is in potentially serious trouble after formal charges of making a criminal threat and possessing a firearm in a school area have been filed. The charges stem from the rapper’s arrest on May 11th when his house was searched by police. He could face as many as five years in jail.
  • Never one for the avoidance of melodrama, Lily Allen has said that life on tour and all the drinking that comes with it, may kill her if she keeps at it. “I’m an alcoholic now. It’s not good and that’s why I want to get back into the studio,” the pop star lamented. “I’ve actually pulled myself aside and said it will kill me if I keep it up. I’ve got to stop abusing myself because as far as I’m concerned every loon hates me now.”
  • 50 Cent says he has two albums in the hopper, Curtis, which is now coming out in September, and Before I Self Destruct, which he’s close to finishing. After those two records, though, we may not hear from the guy for a while. “For me, right now, I feel like I love music, so [fans] should expect me to make music afterwards,” 50 said. “But I’ll make it organically, like [Dr.] Dre makes a record. It may take five or seven years. … They’ll be looking for my record, like, ‘Yo, come on, when you making a record?’”
  • Ryan Adams plans to release what promises to be a rather awesome boxset. The collection will include unreleased albums 48 Hours, The Suicide Handbook, and Bedhead, as well as songs from the Easy Tiger sessions, and live tracks. No word yet on an exact release date for the collection.

“Airies73″, you are confusing not likeing rap music with racism. Are we to assume that not likeing rock music is also racist?

Mr. Dart | 6/6/2007, 10:38 am EST

Aires, using big words doesn’t make you right.

I have never led a musically cloistered life. I grew up listening to everything. I still listen to everything. Rock, rap, blues, classical, folk, etc… It’s because I listen to rap that I can say that I haven’t heard any good rap lately. It has nothing to do with making sweeping generalities about race. You’re trying to put out fires that you yourself have started.

I agree with Johnny K., as sad as that is to admit. However, that does not erase my point about the people who post on these blogs.

I’ve seen these blogs too often to not know who’s making racist inferences when it comes to reflexively hating a genre of music. Most of these idiots are rock fans who never listened to one rap group/artist in their cloistered lives.

I can just as easily make ignorant remarks about rock as a genre or rock artists, but I like the genre (among others) too much to engage in such madness.

People DO still care about rap, unfortunately.

Yeah, there are still a few good artists but the majority of it is the worst music ever created in the history of the universe.

I’m gonna have to go with Yo. Circle takes the square.

J didn’t say anything out of line, let alone anything racist. As far as opinions go, I have to agree with him. No one cares about rap anymore, myself included. When it first broke 20+ years ago, it was a vibrant, raw social commentary. Now, it’s bogged down by it’s own delusions of grandeur… bling bling, bitches, hos, and the like.

If good rap is out there, I haven’t heard it recently.

50 Cent sucks. Look up Papoose, Kanye or The Rza.

i’ve seen alot of negative comments about women and gays, but not any “racist” talk as of recently. Unless its obviously racist, just chalk it up as a diference in opinion.

Come to think about it, isn’t there alot of anti-women and anti-gay talk in rap music?? Are we to assume that that kind of talk is “o.k.” in the rap world??

yo | 6/5/2007, 12:53 pm EST

yo yo yo

Why is J racist? Because he said no one cares about rap music anymore? Sounds like you’re the racist, Aries73, being that you ASSUME J’s talking about only black people because he mentioned the word rap music. I really hate it when people throw around the word racist inappropriately. Look up its meaning. Plus, J’s talking about music… not people. Last time I checked, there are no rules on who can make what kind of music.

Aries73 | 6/5/2007, 12:10 pm EST

Speak for yourself, J. What is it about rock as a genre that bring out the racists in these blogs?

Spaceboy | 6/5/2007, 12:00 pm EST

First Amy Winehouse and now Lily Allen…are alcoholic women becoming the cool thing now?

Chuck | 6/5/2007, 11:25 am EST

So Lily Allen and Fiddy are gonna play Bob too? That’s cool…

J | 6/5/2007, 10:39 am EST

Looks like Ledger, Gere and someone else. The other guy doesn’t look like Bale. I can’t wait for this movie.

Lily Allen reminds me of every 14 year old drama queen on the planet.

No one cares about rap music anymore.

abandonedstation | 6/5/2007, 10:29 am EST

Man, I hope this Dylan biopic is just as weird as New Morning, but not nearly as shitty. Or as good as Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, but not as long.

I wonder why The Game lives in a school area. Maybe children are easier to threaten with a gun.

50 won’t record for another five to seven years? Best news I’ve heard all day.

Ryan Adams’ release of a boxset of new music should be an annual thing.

I can’t wait to hear what Bjork thinks of that movie poster!
