Your Rock and Roll Daily squad goes wherever music news is happening. And today, it’s happening at Starbucks across the nation, as the new Paul McCartney album, Memory Almost Full, is being piped through in-store speakers on a continuous basis. We woke up bright and early this morning to get some reactions from a random sample of coffee drinkers, plus one feckless Starbucks employee.

Paul, the best since Band On The Run. BTW, what happens when your memory is finally full? Scary.
John Aseff | 6/5/2007, 3:01 pm EST
Excellent as usual. You never disappoint!
FOR SALE...PAUL MCCARTNY | 6/5/2007, 3:09 pm EST
I AM THE WALRUS, I AM THE SELL OUT CA CHING, CA CHING, CA CHING CHING CHING

“House of Wax” is up there with Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight….IMHO
James | 6/5/2007, 3:24 pm EST
With all the dough he’s got, you’d think he’d give something to the mom & pop coffeehouses being driven out by corporate giant Starbucks. “For Sale…McCartney” sums it up best.
Ragman | 6/5/2007, 3:24 pm EST
To FOR SALE…PAUL MCCARTNY:
Selling out? Nope–just the best album he’s released in years. So what if it’s sold at Starbucks? That company makes millions on inflated prices for pretentious coffee.
Day in the Life | 6/5/2007, 3:25 pm EST
Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged a comb across my head….found my way downstairs, and drank a cup, looking up, I noticed…
That’s Paul’s new CD playing in Starbucks… imagine that!
wrecksracer | 6/5/2007, 3:33 pm EST
Shouldn’t he be selling these cds at Walgreens…..next to the Geritol section. Or maybe he could include a free copy of his cd with the purchase of a Craftmatic adjustable bed
Chris | 6/5/2007, 3:35 pm EST
The fact that a guy 65 years of age is still rockin out with original material is very cool.
unhip1 | 6/5/2007, 3:36 pm EST
If only he’d give more coherent interviews!
–Trees are “oxygen machines”
–Dylan isn’t cool because he wasn’t a Beatle…??
Thanks for the music,anyway,Paul!
hacker bob | 6/5/2007, 3:50 pm EST
yeah music from that era should be left in the past. wish paul would meet someone like yoko…
Captain Obvious | 6/5/2007, 4:00 pm EST
There’s a difference between “selling out” and “marketing”. He’s been in the mainstream ever since he and the rest of the Beatles were defining mainstream rock, so it’s pretty hard for him to sell out. If he were compromising his musical style to appeal more broadly, that would be selling out, but that’s not what is going on.
And… how stupid do you have to be to think that Paul owes anything to “mom and pop” coffee shops? Organic vegetables are sold and promoted in Wal-Mart, do you think that organic farmers are “selling out” and owe money to local grocers?
shockedsuprized | 6/5/2007, 4:22 pm EST
I am kinda blown away,
because he is well over thirty.
and Starbucks are getting rid of employees over the age of thirty.
they are shooting for the target groups of 10 to 30.and Sir Paul just doesn’t fit in there.
well I am glad he is still rockin’.
wrecksracer | 6/5/2007, 4:30 pm EST
Paul McFartney is selling coffee at a Starbucks now? Didn’t he used to be a musician?
Yoda McCheese | 6/5/2007, 4:32 pm EST

Sir Paul’s new album is the best fucking thing he’s done since “Band On The Run”. This new material deserves far better than just lip service. It rocks like a mofo. Wow!!!!!!!!!!
Publius Jackson | 6/5/2007, 5:28 pm EST
Paul has to hustle up some more cash after getting taken for HALF his dough by that one legged whore. Good for you Paul, sounds great too.

uh! enough of those idiotic someone is a sell out! what if paul’s cds are sold at starbucks? what if dylan makes a victori’s secret ad? what if richards acts in hollywood? thier music will still be way better than many many of today’s “real” musicians. once, iggy said he wasn’t worried one of his osngs was used in a nike ad, just because he didn’t write it for a commercial in the first place. you must focus in the music itself, no on the things that surround it.
hide the music! advertisers! | 6/5/2007, 7:33 pm EST
I cringe every time I hear rock & roll by led zeppelin in those stupid car commercials. It is edited into a monstrosity. Thankfully thats the only song I’ve ever seen led zeppelin give out.
Chris Daniel | 6/5/2007, 7:34 pm EST
This cd is a classic already. songs that really get you are Gratitude,Mr Bellamy,Vintage Clothes,That was Me, and House of Wax…
Darkrob | 6/5/2007, 8:06 pm EST
Iced grand non-fat no-whip mocha.
Low fat banana chocolate chip cake.
Botox injected fading ex-Beatle tunes.

Well I stopped at one of the local starbucks today on my way to school to pick up the cd…it’s good! really good. But not quite as good as Chaos and Creation In The Backyard in my opinion.
Ben | 6/5/2007, 11:40 pm EST
I went and bought it at the store..I hadn’t heard any f it except “Ever Present Past”. It’s good, though.
Dion | 6/6/2007, 12:22 am EST
I’m sorry but when I heard “Almost Full Memory” was produced by David Kahane who produced “Driving Rain”, Paul’s worst CD, I was afraid that this CD was going to be bad and my fears were revealed.
Please Paul get back with Producer Nigel Godrich. You & Nigel produced a classic together “Chaos & Creation”. Khane is to much of an ass kissing yes man, while Nigel made Paul write better tunes. That’s what Paul needs, someone that will tell him ‘No, this song sucks, write a better one.’ I love Paul like anybody else but I think someone need to tell Paul what’s songs are good which one are garbarge and Nigel was the one. That’s all I’m saying.

Hey great album, could get a Grammy Nod.Anyways,so what It’s on the Starbucks label? What did Capital do for him for his last few albums? NOTHING!! I don’t blame him. GO PAUL!!!

super album,(almost) as usual.funny, moving, rocking…l ove it.”You tell me” and “The end of the end” are two of the most moving songs I have ever heard.”That was me” is three-chord rock’n'rolling genius. My favorite album released this year so far…
Brad | 6/6/2007, 10:57 am EST
Dion you idiot: This CD is much better than the uptight C+C.
kev bhr | 6/6/2007, 5:10 pm EST
I heard this local sports talk show just rip his new album/cd. They came to the conclusion that Lennon was the most important Beatle and I agree.

What a pleasant surprise- better than his last one- best he’s done in quite a while! Nothing “silly” about this one… voice sounds good.. creatively alive.
Dean | 6/9/2007, 2:08 pm EST
Paul’s new cd is excellent. There sure are a lot of idiots in the Starbucks video.
kelly | 6/12/2007, 10:30 am EST
nooo…not NEARLY as good as “Chaos & Creation in the Backyard”, which was deep & beautiful… this one is being advertised as his best yet (since the Beatles) but I’m sorry…the more quiet release of C&C…THAT was his brilliant comeback. Check it out if you haven’t yet!
Kit Gainer | 6/13/2007, 2:15 am EST
Haven’t heard it yet…but I will soon! I suspect it is good (and it can sell anywhere, that is Paul’s choice, he made it =) ‘nite
Julia | 6/14/2007, 6:51 pm EST
Paul’s newest work is amazing. Love it. This is his best solo effort since “Flaming Pie.” Well done, Sir Paul.
Living before my time | 6/24/2007, 1:55 pm EST
I must say Paul’s done some impresive things with his music, and in his latest work he shows no sign of stoping. Its just that much more to love. Right on Paul. Right on.
