Ask A Rock Star: Did Paris Hilton Get Off Easy?

5/29/07, 4:50 pm EST

Paris

This week: Lily Allen, Fall Out Boy, Jordin Sparks and others weigh in on whether Paris should go to jail.
Perhaps you’ve head that Paris Hilton is going to jail. A judge ordered the heiress to serve jail time after she was busted driving with a suspended license. The starlet’s license was originally suspended after she was arrested for speeding through L.A. streets while under the influence, in a hurry to get some food into her perfectly tanned belly to soak up all that alcohol. Paris and her ensuing stint in jail have become a major topic of conversation among … everybody. Is she finally getting what she deserves or is her punishment too harsh? We decided to ask a few of the people we interviewed last week what they thought. Here are their answers.

  • Lily Allen: “No, she broke the law, why shouldn’t she go to jail. She’s rich, she could have afforded a driver to take her around anywhere, she didn’t need to be driving that car when she didn’t have a license”
  • ‘N Sync’s Chris Kirkpatrick: “Everybody who does a crime obviously needs to be punished, but I have a little bit of sympathy for her because she’s not a normal person. She’s been brought up in such a bubble … it’s got to be ten times harder on her than it would for everybody else. Hey, you know what, you do the crime, pay the time. But it’s a different realm for her. It’s going to be a shock for her.”
  • Fall Out Boy guitarist/lead singer Patrick Stump: “I think she’s being made an example of, so I think it’s kind of weird. If it were anybody else I don’t think she would be judged as hard. However, you should play the hand you’re dealt. If that’s how it’s going to be, c’est la vie. I hope nothing bad happens to her in prison … You know who I really have sympathy for right now is Alec Baldwin, because that’s nobody’s business.”
  • Rose Hill Drive guitarist Daniel Sproul: “I think it’s fucking hilarious because she’s a cunt. I don’t know her. My relationship with her consists of watching her on TV. From what I know, I think it’s a situation that’s being blown out of proportion. She did something that a lot of people do. I think it’s god damn hilarious that a high profile rich person goes to jail. I just picture her and her little fucking dog in her jail cell. Hilarious. Even with this question it’s like people are talking about a non-human. She’s just, like, an idea. Her as a person…who is she?”
  • America’s newest idol Jordin Sparks: “You know, I … I think it’s sad and I don’t know. I think it’s sad, but in all honesty I just, I mean you’re told not to do something, you shouldn’t do it. So, I mean, that’s the consequence I guess, but I do feel bad.”

Why do we care????Because Paris or another of her kind has and will kill someone while she is being a pampered fool, driving under the influence of God knows what! God help her if it is one of mine. She and all the rest of her kind need a fucking wakeup call. Her parents are the ones who deserve most of the blame for raising such a person that actually believes they have a different set of rules. However, the little bitch is old enough to take responsibility for her actions now. I hope she never spawns another clone.

Kendall | 6/16/2007, 2:16 am EST

I can understand her confusion. See, most people are so confusing and/or stupid themselves that the people who are asked to say something don’t know what to say, except for there moral views, and then they feel guilty. At least, that’s what I think.

qwkinuf | 6/9/2007, 10:05 pm EST

TMZ.com is reporting that Paris Hilton has not eaten, slept, been crying a lot and is acting withdrawn since arriving at the medical ward of a Los Angeles jail.Wow! That’s what my 5 year old does when I send her to her room.

I do have a question about all this Hilton business. If Nicole Ritchie ends up going into the slam, could we end up with parparazzi photos of Hilton and Ritchie going over the wall?

Tecca | 6/4/2007, 6:05 pm EST

I think Patrick was not saying celebs get treated harsher in court but celebs do wrong and people judge them more harshly than some 28 year old drunk driver in New York….

DrJ | 6/4/2007, 12:13 am EST

Wow–Patrick Stump is a complete idiot if he actually thinks being rich and famous means you get harsher treatment in the courts. Any non rich and famous Rolling Stone reader who doesn’t believe me can go out and get arrested for driving with a suspended license (twice) and see what happens.

JerseyDevil | 6/3/2007, 8:10 pm EST

People with money and celebrity status always think they deserve to get out of everything and usually do. Laws were not created to be bargained out of. She got off easy the first time with the DUI. She obviously didn’t learn her lesson, because she thought the law didn’t apply to her. Before she does something stupid next time, she might stop and think. (Did I just say “think”?)
It might save someone’s life.
BTW - I don’t know why anyone even pays attention to her. She’s looking haggard already and is a total idiot.

DeiStarr | 6/3/2007, 8:33 am EST

Paris IS getting a harsh sentence, but I agree with Chris Kirkpatrick - it’s a wakeup call she desperately needs. I just hope it isn’t too much for her to handle - because even though she is getting a “soft jail”, consider that she’s been taught that she craps diamonds and pees wine all her life. She needs to learn that she doesn’t, just hopefully she can take the truth.

James | 6/1/2007, 12:09 pm EST

Let Paris go. She typifies what it means to be a young college age American–drunk, stupid, narcissistic to excess.

Hamza | 6/1/2007, 12:01 am EST

Paris should be shot and killed. Who cares about her incarceration? She is a disgrace to humanity. I hope something bad happens to her. Her parents are no better.

Karloff | 5/31/2007, 3:44 pm EST

Paris doesn’t swallow. She just says “Ewwwww…get that thing out of my face!”

paris DOES deserve to be judged so harshly, but not because of the DUI. becase of everytghing else she does.I think Bush Deserves to be Impeached and go 2 jail for knowingly missleading the american public and for engaging in war with lack of proof of any offence by the oppisite party. I just made those up and don`t think that there is any law against either of those, but it soounds DAMN convinceing. !!!!!!!!!!!!!:-D

true | 5/31/2007, 9:27 am EST

why do any of you care about her anyway. she’e not going to see nothing that u are writting so why is everybody making a big deal out of nothing. you all say that you don;t like her or that she’s a nobody so why are u talking about it. so what if she get put in jail and so what if she don’t. you all have to realize that that’s how the world is, the rich gets away and the poor gets totured, its a sad thing but thats reality so deal with it unless one of you is going to change it if not then stop complaning like kids.

Michael | 5/30/2007, 11:16 am EST

She’ll be fine.
Paris needs to understand consequence.
Jeeesch!

Chuck | 5/30/2007, 11:05 am EST

wtf? poor unknown people are thrown in jail every day for driving with a suspended license and nobody says a frikkin word. And they do not get special treatment like a “panic button” and a two person cell all to themselves.

Let’s not forget that Paris’ license was suspended because she got popped speeding while drunk so all of this talk about her not hurting anyone is a crock. It’s only luck that no one was hurt or killed by her moronic actions.

APL | 5/30/2007, 11:00 am EST

Mr. Dart | 5/30/2007, 1:09 am EST

DUIs are something that FAR too many people get put in jail for. Celebrity shouldn’t make a difference. As subjective as this case may seem, I refuse to believe that even Paris Hilton is so retarded that she didn’t know what the terms of her probation were.

Lock the bitch up!

Coxy | 5/29/2007, 9:29 pm EST

Welcome to the real world for a change…It will be some soft ass jail any way. Put her in genral population like any of us would.
Will she be able to travel with that conviction in the US ? Or is it just a traffic offence?

AHA | 5/29/2007, 8:15 pm EST

Paris should be punished for this. She is only going to do half of the sentence at best (which is also a crime), but she does need to learn she is not above the law and the familys money can’t buy her way out of everything. The judge had to sentence her or there would have been unfair calls from the poor common folk that get nabbed for this crap all the time. She should not have been driving drunk, she should not have driven without her licence. She should go to jail. Yes I think, everyone that does this should be sent to jail. She should have lost her licence for life as should all impaired drivers, but that is another topic.

hellosubmarine | 5/29/2007, 8:01 pm EST

throw her in jail. and it’s pretty sad that they reduced her jail sentence because she showed up on time to her court date. i don’t even watch the news sometimes because of that woman but everyones still talking about her. i don’t care what she did , she needs to do some hard time.

Faint | 5/29/2007, 7:39 pm EST

It’s stupid. Fine her and let her go. Why should we incarcerate someone who is obviously not a threat to society? Waste of my tax dollars…

There is no “example” being set here…only the actions of a bitter judge who is either:

a) jealous of her wealth,
b) jealous of her fame,
c) trying to exact vengeance on all those hot, young chicks who ever turned him down for a date,
d) all of the above.

Smoove B | 5/29/2007, 7:15 pm EST

Marty Balin | 5/29/2007, 6:53 pm EST

Maybe if she made a big show of finding Jesus like all these Republican child-molesters do when they get caught and found a christian activist judge she could get freed and bring Jerry Falwell back to life with one of those patented rich-girl Blowjobs that seem to be her only talent.

great_sphinx_42 | 5/29/2007, 6:36 pm EST

I’ve never in all my days known anyone- and I’ve known some delinquents- who went to jail under the same circumstances. The sentence may not be a huge deal, but it is harsh. They are trying to make an example of her, and the public is enjoying it because they hate her for being rich and famous through no real fault (or talent) of her own. The judge, too, made a point of saying that he came to his decision in part because of his perception of her public persona. It’s unfair, but justice has never actually been any more blind or any less prejudiced than the people involved.

Sparty | 5/29/2007, 5:38 pm EST

Why can’t someone put Fall Out Boy in jail? Permanently.

conshy | 5/29/2007, 5:38 pm EST

it’s sad? jordin, seriously. the fact that the media makes a big deal about paris is what’s sad.
she broke the law, she got caught.
and it’s only, what, a 35-40 day sentence at the most.
that’s an insult to people who have received harsher sentences for lesser offenses.

tacobellgrindage | 5/29/2007, 5:18 pm EST

It’s never easy getting Paris’ off if you know what I mean.
