Just saw the Live in London MTV show so I could see what all the fuss was about. Wow, astonishing how hyped and overrated Winehouse is. She is so unappealing in every way (especially in hi-def, eeew…creepy…skanky…) She’s just not much of a singer and the material is obvious and derivitive. Nothing original here musically, period. Good band, though. Too bad it doesn’t make up for how incredibly lame a performer she is. You fan folks are so easily impressed by mediocrity.

Amy Whinehouse is talented and calling people stupid does not change how they feel. It does show the world what kind of person you are. She is not a wanna be jew she is jewish but what the hell does that have to do with anything? If you can’t make a more respectful comment than that then simply keep it to yourself because I for one do not like being called stupid for my opinion on a musician.

LiL PaPi | 9/10/2007, 10:01 pm EST

Amy, I LOVE you! This woman does something most of you people couldnt ever do, besides sing, she admits when shes’ a total fuck up. Most people would blame everyone around them but she steps up to the plate and even has the nerve to make the public aware that she truly dont give a rats ass what anyone thinks. Im with ya Amy….fuck these haters!

Joe John | 8/24/2007, 2:02 pm EST

Is this a joke? Shes crap. Boring music for sheep. Is this another lame attempt to make money off the people really like 60s R&B?? Of course it is.. she wasnt a rockabilly a few years back.. and now she is. a rockabilly who really digs the 60s… WOW.. never heard that before.. Get a clue and make some music.. dont go rippin off some real artists AGAIN… as if there isnt enough crap out already.. this is mainly Sheep music for alcoholics.. SHEEP: Hey she sings about rehab and drinking.. it must be good!! I like 60s.. i love to drink!!! SHES THE GREATEST.. STFU.. get better taste in music people.. AMY WINEHOUSE IS CRAP

anthony | 8/18/2007, 3:21 pm EST

Amy Winehouse is a poser wannabe jew. Obviously this whole rehab bullshit is a gimmick. She would have done us a favor if she would not come out of her little binge alive.

KatieCarrollDOESDallas -
Do you even have a single black friend to ask if your theories of ‘jealous blacks’ will get you laughed out of the room? It’s obvious that if you are able to lift a finger in order to espouse your ignorance to the world that you could, most certainly, use a search engine to learn about the history of blacks in music and how every co-opted form of music that came from blacks only got scrutiny when a ‘cross-over artist’ who could sound like, but not BE, black came onto the scene. Here’s an obvious person to start with in getting some real edumarkation over your befuddled and opinionated ignorance: Elvis. It’s quite pathetic how somebody like Amy gets all this attention when ‘whitey’ had the real thing all along. Instead of searching for that white face who ‘passes’ only to others of the same race, why not acknowledge the real deal, instead? But, I suppose, you only use your computer for shopping and web surfing….

Ziggy | 7/25/2007, 4:32 pm EST

Argh! I had to have another rant and simply say: For the lot, here, who think she’s got the sun shining out of her behind you have indicated your sheeple tendencies to go for the same old formulaic, rehashed crap that major corporations have been pumping out since the mid-1980’s. It’s painful watching a load of people in the midst of a comparison frenzy, almost like that time I sat and watched folks re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but that would belittle the deaths of over 1,700 souls. Amy is a walking tragedy, ain’t been through nothing like Aretha has, but what is more tragic are all of the people willing to shell out their hard-earnt cash and keep crap like Whingehouse about. Yay Lowest Common Denominator!

Ziggy | 7/25/2007, 4:07 pm EST

Impressive! Yes, it must be hard being an old black woman who has to go through the doors marked ‘colored’, knows she is being sold out by her managers and the other blood-suckers, whose parents were slaves as children but still had to pick cotton all their lives because the law of th- hold on a minute! Here, I thought with that deep voice and head wagging like Aunt Jemima that poor old Amy was a
great, but abused, BLACK talent, with a drinking/heroin problem, who got no respect - instead of just an inconsequential poseur with a drinking problem. Ouch, does all of that temporary money and booze give her solace?
MOOD: Angry little girl needs schrink. Er, drink? Why certainly, Dr. Freud, and whilst you’re at it….

Miss Kizzy | 7/17/2007, 1:25 pm EST

I like Amy. I really do. I find her refreshing and open. She doesn’t need to sing in subtlety. Her voice alone carries it over. I dig it.

crunchiegerbil | 7/16/2007, 2:46 am EST

Nice voice, but as a person: a complete train-wreck. Edith Piaf lived and sang about drugs, booze and destructive relationships soooo much better - and with far more dignity.

katiecarrolldallas | 7/6/2007, 8:31 am EST

I believe that some of you are mistaking her for a copier because you have not taken the time to think about how music is passed from generation to generation. Every original artist is influenced by the music they have listened to in their lives and takes what they have learned from that and applies their own new and original ideas and voice. BIG difference between copying and being influenced. We are given a place to start developing our own style only by learning from the people who made music before us. my super heroes when I.
was little played music that I loved and was inspired by and now today I am a musician. We know She writes her own lyrics and each song is about a situation or problem that is going on in her life, you say she rips off other peoples songs and to me that makes no sense. She is singing about things that women didn’t sing about in the 60s ex. “What kind of fuckery is this…What kind of fuckery are we, nowadays you don’t mean dick to me…” Women in pop in 2007 don’t even do it. And she combines such beautiful classic jazz styles with blunt cussing and accuratly honest lyrics. Beauty stands out more when there is an element of roughness or pain contained in it and you people are so fucking ignorant and closed minded. Oh yeah and I think all the black people are pissed because amy sings so well and she’s white… Well we must be BIG WhITE RACISTS. Stop murdering everyone and having kids that you can’t even take care of and then stop complaining about slavery! There is not a person here who had anything to do with that shit, they have all been dead for a long time. We are an entirely new batch of humans walking the earth today. So stop using us to blame for your bad behavior and laziness

yep | 7/1/2007, 1:56 pm EST

I hate this girl’s video. She sings in a dead monotoned voice with the expression of a dead fish and expects people to think it’s good. yuck. And what a boring terrible song too. What was the point of her music?

SoulBrother | 6/27/2007, 2:56 pm EST

Stone is to Avril Lavigne as Winehouse is to Patti Smith.

All the “hottie” photos of Stone
found in record stores make me believe she’s just the latest product
of the big music marketing machine

atang | 6/25/2007, 5:59 am EST

i dont hate amy but i believe her comparison to lauryn hill is misplaced. for one lauryn wants to change the world with her music and amy sings about drugs, alcohol and relationships. their experinces are different lauryn is more an intellectual by directing her music towards world politics, societal injustices, religion, and spreading the message of love.

lipelo | 6/11/2007, 3:40 am EST

I saw Amy perform at the MTV movie awards, her performance was weak, she does not have stage presence, and her voice was very low when she sings she does not let go, she is conscious of how she sings, that is a bit suspicious I am beginning to wonder if that’s her natural singing voice or if it is practiced. After watching that performance I am truly convinced she is overrated and I don’t see her exploring some of the things Lauryn is capable of as an artist, just to refresh our memories Lauryn can sing, rap, write and produce songs and Amy is just a singer.

wanny | 6/5/2007, 12:40 pm EST

amy is one of the best singers of her time and one of the most original sounds i have ever heard. just because she doesn’t sound like some watered down version of britney spears of paris and jessica simpson mixed doesn’t make her a bad singer!…

I hate Divas.

EL | 6/4/2007, 12:24 am EST

Another great white hype. Kinda reminds me of Eminem. Maybe some of you should have heard her earlier work. She’s a poser. This whole retro thing is a gimmick. And I’m sick of white people, that’s right, white people saying her sound is better than the one she’s ripping off. 3 out of 5. She gets no points for being original because she isn’t. Just another Anglo getting credit for something else they didn’t originate.

Jacob | 5/30/2007, 3:46 pm EST

how bout a smashing pumpkins cover story?

sly | 5/30/2007, 2:57 pm EST

Amy Winehouse is a Lauryn Hill RIP OFF !!!..
She stole Lauryns voice and is cashing in.. She is not original.. People have select memories..

ABC | 5/30/2007, 9:40 am EST

You know what I hate? When people say “hating on”. It sounds soooooo stupid.

LooooL | 5/30/2007, 5:11 am EST

Sure
but we have to HOPE and PRAY that she doesn’t stop on a liquor store, takes her medication(cause she is manic depressive),forgets the drugs for that day and takes a shower(cause her hygiene it’s not the most popular thing on her) or there’s not gonna be amy.
Or there’s gonna be amy but vomiting on stage
That would be a great scene on MTV
Loool

whitey | 5/30/2007, 1:27 am EST

Amy is one of the rare artists that sound EVEN BETTER LIVE then on their album. Give her a chance Sunday 6/3 as she performs on the MTV Movie Awards.

Pfffff | 5/30/2007, 1:15 am EST

Yes. We get it. Amy Winehouse likes booze…can they mention her and not mention alcohol? Lets not forget that alcoholism is a disease…

i may live in a shell but this winehouse sensation seems way out of proportion. i dont like her, but if a lot of people do(none apparently whom i even know) then go for, put her on every cover til 2010

midevil | 5/29/2007, 7:00 pm EST

White Stripes have already been on the cover–maybe the Raconteurs?

Nice | 5/29/2007, 6:52 pm EST

Go learn proper english and then comeback to talk to me
I don’t have like everything i hear
i can dislike too

astradiffeyeance | 5/29/2007, 5:57 pm EST

STOP HATING ON AMY !!!!!
this chick has got an amazing voice yeah she has a issue with booze but what 20 something thats in “the biz” these days dont have 1
she tells a good story with her musice and sings from the heart something these pop air heads dont do too much … by the way NICE GO GET SOME HATER-TOTS TO GO WITH THAT HATERAIDE

Nice | 5/29/2007, 5:38 pm EST

She is not an Original it’s just a rip up from motown sound whith lyrics about booze and drugs
Put the White Stripes on the cover that’s a band

Nice | 5/29/2007, 5:32 pm EST

What?!
Are you saying everybody is on drugs?

i understand what u are saying but Joss has a greater voice, a combination of Aretha,Etta James,Janis Joplin
And she is just 19!!
That’s one the female voices that i’ve heard in years

Amy had a very good producer(mark ronson, who also produced lily allen) who found a very good sound for her

Amy it’s NOT NEW if u listen to good soul R’nB and blues music from the 60’s u will not want to hear amy

mr roboto | 5/29/2007, 4:52 pm EST

Ha. That’s a pretty funny clip of Sufjan.

These crazy kids!

RSshouldprioritize | 5/29/2007, 4:46 pm EST

Someone tell me how lameass Amy Winehouse has made the cover while the ARCADE FIRE HAS NOT! A Travesty.

Poopstar | 5/29/2007, 4:33 pm EST

Winehouse is good. I think the reason people are more into Winehouse rather than Joss Stone is that Winehouse sings about drugs, liquor and the bad parts of love. Those issues are easy for alot of people to relate to.

Beelay | 5/29/2007, 3:39 pm EST

Winehouse rocks, for sure.

Hambone licks bone, for sure.

Nice | 5/29/2007, 3:31 pm EST

Amy winehouse Soooooo Overrated
Trashy, anorexic and alcoholic
Just because she sings copies songs from great artists doesn’t make her a great artist
Joss Stone a far more better voice than her(i don’t know if the girl really knows how talented she is)

Go eat a cheeseburger Amy and stop drinkin’

Leslie | 5/29/2007, 3:27 pm EST

I’m loving Amy at the moment, I’ve always liked her, but with Back To Black I think she finally found her style and sound. That album is what made me become a big fan of hers. Even though it is obviously heavily influenced by 60’s R&B, it remains creative and original. She has a gift for songwriting and her voice is very soulful; brilliant vocalist. Can’t wait to see the cover and read the story.

hambone | 5/29/2007, 3:24 pm EST

I retract my prev post…I love Amy Winehouse and her lovely music…and so does my boyfriend….I am also a man!

ihatemaryland88 | 5/29/2007, 3:19 pm EST

yeah winehouse
boo hambone

hambone | 5/29/2007, 3:15 pm EST

are people stupid? Amy winehouse is pure crap. horrible attempt at trying to bring mo-town current. we have lost. rock is dead and nobody is coming up with anything original.
