Linkin Park to Headline Live Earth Tokyo

5/25/07, 3:10 pm EST

Linkin Park, Live Earth, Tokyo, Rolling StoneAccording to a source close to the Live Earth festival, reigning Billboard heavyweight champions Linkin Park will be headlining the Tokyo installment of this year’s massive seven-continent Live Earth affair, which is set to rock the globe on 7/7/07. In other festival news: Joss Stone and UB40 are headlining the Johannesburg concert, Lenny Kravitz and Pharrell Williams will be holding it down in Live Earth Rio De Janeiro (lucky them) and Shakira (and a rock band to be named later) will be joining previously announced Chris Cornell and Snoop Dogg in Hamburg, Germany. Also part of the plan is Will Ferrell, Cameron Diaz and none other than Pierce Brosnan, who will all film PSAs to air during the concert series. And what about Live Earth Antarctica, which will take place near the South Pole? That would be rockers NunoTank, a band made up of scientists stationed on the icy continent, who will broadcast their performance via live feed.

If you want to know who is playing the Live Earth Antarctica concert visit www.antarctica.ac.uk

Britis h Antarctic Survey’s wintering science team has a house band called Nunatak… they are fab.

SpiderBabe | 6/6/2007, 2:04 pm EST

The ammount of trash, CO2, etc, that will be created because of these concerts and the travel will be astronomical. If you really want to back up your cause, stay home for the day. Go figure. Irony.

Re: cynics | 5/30/2007, 7:10 am EST

great comment! I totally agree! we’d still be living in caves had the likes of Funky Monkey prevailed!

cynics | 5/29/2007, 11:06 am EST

The concerts already have raised awareness, you are all talking about them. I am frankly appalled by Funky Monkey’s position on this subject, the ’screw it, not my problem’ attitude is everything thats wrong with the world.

Funky Monkey | 5/28/2007, 3:48 pm EST

I don’t see how this is going to help! People will see the concert, go home and forget about it. Frankly, I am so sick of hearing about saving the planet. It has come too far along for us to help it, now, we may as well just add to it. We live on a dying planet anyway, might as well party it up while we still can.

Drew | 5/28/2007, 12:36 am EST

If all these bands are going to be in these concerts, then they need to back it up by pledging to not take private jets anywhere anymore, give up their SUVs, and make sure their (assumingly)large houses don’t eat up energy. If they agree to that, then go for it. Otherwise, it’s just hypocrisy.

Luis Velazquez | 5/26/2007, 12:52 pm EST

Music’s not gonna help this planet. Maybe they should just talk about it, about the idea behind the movement. Having great artists talkin’ about this stuff MAYBE get their fans doin’ something for the planet… I don’t know.

James | 5/25/2007, 5:49 pm EST

Yeah, this just seems like an all around bad idea. A lot of people got annoyed by the preachiness of Live 8 and just when it’s getting harder to argue against climate change this will probably make people hostile to hear anything more. There’s been enough momentum over the last year or so to put the issue into mainstream discourse. I really don’t see how a concert will add anything. It honestly regretfully will probably turn people off.

MARLENE | 5/25/2007, 5:26 pm EST

YO DIGO Q POR Q NO PONEN LOS DEMAS GRUPOS EN DONDE VAN A ESTAR Y A Q ORA Y EN Q CANAL

The Ruse | 5/25/2007, 5:08 pm EST

will also be playing. So good.

Linkin Park | 5/25/2007, 5:07 pm EST

Smells like a decroded turd.

? | 5/25/2007, 4:55 pm EST

But money doesnt fix problems, it creates them

Rudy | 5/25/2007, 4:52 pm EST

It raises awareness, money and im sure they’ll be enviromentally friendly products being advertised all the way.

? | 5/25/2007, 4:37 pm EST

I don’t see how throwing a concert is going to help the planet.

Benjamin | 5/25/2007, 4:33 pm EST

Born to Runner Up is going to be joining in Antarctica, tho not yet confirmed by their agent

Bob Saget's Revenge | 5/25/2007, 3:48 pm EST

Linkin Park, the noted ecologically friendly band.

They have even decided to recycle their Nu-Metal under another giuse, and the kids and mouth-breathing rockers are buying it in bulk.

Whats next? Limp Bizkit for PETA?

abandonedstation | 5/25/2007, 3:30 pm EST

Hey, that’s first good reason I’ve ever heard to why I shouldn’t go to Tokyo.

Mario Kart | 5/25/2007, 3:22 pm EST

The Earth deserves better

Jeff | 5/25/2007, 3:12 pm EST

rock band to be named later = GN’R

Max Power | 5/25/2007, 3:11 pm EST

the Flaming lips should play antartica and they should stay there afterwards!
