Linkin Park has never suffered in the album sales department — the band’s last two albums have both sold in the millions — but music fans have gotten more persnickety since the salad days of the early aughts. Which is why it’s so impressive that LP reportedly sold as many as 625,000 copies of its latest album, Minutes to Midnight in its first week on the charts. Sure, their last disc, 2003’s Meteora moved a rumored 800,000 copies in its first week out. But these are lean times, y’all! So what does it mean that a rap-rock band beat out Norah Jones to become the year’s biggest success story? We’d like to impress you either with a theory about the lunar calendar in relation to beats-per-minute…or hard-nosed evidence that producer Rick Rubin sold his soul to some Buddhist demon, but in reality, all we can figure is that it has something to do with the band’s new Helmut Lang-inspired look (see above). So Resort ‘08!

As4me, I also didnt like the album at first, but later the essence of their new songs began gradually unfoldin4me. I understand there are some weak creations such as In pieces or smth, but on the whole the thing produces a very good impression. I consider the last song2be the best, kuz it/s really smth new and fresh. I think NU MTL isnt dead cheer up guys and soon we gotta see it in their new album. Meanwhile my friend has been 2 their concert in St Petersbourg and said it was rockin kul. We thank em4havin come to our country at last. GREETINGS FROM RUSSIA!

LINKIN PARK IS THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD THEY ARE THE REASON I AM ALIVE?? REALLY?? NO BUT THEYRE FUC KING AWESOME
WHO EVER SAID NU METAL IS DEAD NEEDS TO BE SHOT SLIPKNOTS NEW ALBUM COMES OUT THIS YEAR AND THE UNQUESTIONABLE TRUTH PART 2 (LIMP BIZKIT) IS ALSO
LINKIN PARK ARE GONNA MAKE ANOTHER ALBUM BUT I HOPE TO GOD THEY CHANGE THEIR SOUND FROM MAINSTREAM BACK TO THE OLD DAYS OF HYBRID THEORY AND HYBRID THEORY EP … I DONT THINK THEYRE REPUTATION FOR THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD CAN TAKE ANOTHER MAINSTREAM ALBUM LIKE MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT!!!! THINK WHAT GOT U HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE LINKIN PARK DONT CHANGE IT!!!!
jeze | 2/18/2008, 8:00 pm EST
Ever since i’ve heard “numb” and “in the end” i’ve been addicted to Linkin Park. Hybrid Theory and Metemora are the best. And i am sad to say their new album sucks and doesn’t kick as ass.I know a lot of people agree and those who have never liked LP probably are thinkung or saying aloud “this proves they’ve sucked since the beginning”.
I know a lot of people who love LP and are addicts like me to the music. Then there are some who think their are way better bands out their.
But in my perception yes some of their songs may seem unpoetics and easy to write/record.But the way it connects to many fans is deeper than it may seem to other people. LP’s music reaches to me by pulling and tugging on my hopes, memories, and relality of life and my perception of it. So you may not think LP is any where near great as some people claim, but all I can say besides that they are one of the best to me and “at least they don’t create utter garbage and pointless songs and are not one hit wonders or just in it for the money.”
Dan | 2/11/2008, 2:37 pm EST
This album may be different to the last two albums but overall it still has the catchy lyrics and backing that made linkin park in the first place, i think it was very brave of the band to produce such a different album and i notice that many comments dont like the album, well all i will say is YES its different but dont listen to it once and call it crap! this record means that you have to listen to it a few times before you start to realise that these songs are far more beautiful then anything that anyone else is doing at the moment. They are by far the best band around at least in the “rock” genre dominated by acts such as My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.
In my closing statements i would just like to say that dont listen to it and call it shit because its different everything changes and try and enjoy the new direction

and We are not talking about “artistic integrity”…we are talking about NUMBERS…Some opines on here HATE LinPar, that doesn’t matter. I’m sorry you have hang-ups about Britney. I should have used another reference.
How about, I don’t care if LP is only farting in an echo-chamber, any time a CD sells 600-thousand the 1st week out..it has to be good news.
Now go get a tissue and ROCK.
HaVoK1350 | 5/24/2007, 12:53 pm EST
in a way album sales do’s matter but again all artist like Britney spears dosent make nor write her own music so this making her album sales a fraud! LP do’s it right! And im not here to make fun of people so say what u want cause u dont even know me?
BBKink | 5/24/2007, 10:03 am EST
Hey HavaCock-
the POINT is the amount of CD sales. make sense?
HaVoK1350 | 5/23/2007, 11:48 pm EST
Linkin park can not be compared to britney spears cause she dosent make or write her music, Linkin park do’s plus she’s pop and Linkin park is rock!!!!! Make Sense?
BBKink | 5/23/2007, 4:17 pm EST
I don’t care if it’s BritneySpears farting in an echo-chamber.
anything that moves 600-thousand units is great for CD’s.
Don’t bury the record store just yet.
(didn’t I already post this?)
Lumpy | 5/23/2007, 4:05 pm EST
Okay, Lincoln’s Fart, what’s the deal????
How did you get THAT many people to buy your new record???? I listened to it ( God have mercy on me! ), and, though it’s better than I expected it to be ( and of course it’s not rap-metal, that wouldn’t have sold! ) I don’t see how these figures arose. It’s JUST a pop record! It sounds like an MTV Top 20 countdown, or whatever, where there is something on it for everyone.
Okay, so I guess I answered my question: smart marketing! It’s a calculated pop record, offering something for everyone.
But some things about it are less smart…. like when Chester tries to somberly sing through a song where there is no noise to back him up, like on the bare “Shadow Of The Day”: the restraint that the song is given is actually a winning trait, the minimal beat and the hauntingly beautiful bass line is a prefect combo…. and then Chester sings… hahahahahaha…. he’s just too funny without that wall of ( boring ) noise that is ( or was ) LP! It’s a good song ( at least the first half of it is, before the Coldplay-ish guitars kick in ever so lifelessly ), but Chester’s voice????? He sounds like some guy that got booted from Idol, or whatever.
Now, don’t anyone try to tell me I’m laughing alone!

Linkin Park the greatest band of all time!
I admit i like some of there tunes but please go out and listen a bit harder because i promise you there are so many more talented bands/artist’s out there. I went to a gig this week and they were a class live band and some of there tunes are as good as good linkin parks but there was only 50 people there.
40oz killa | 5/23/2007, 1:58 pm EST
I bought the LP CD and the new Wilco CD on the same day, not that these 2 bands should be compared since they are so different. I have listened to Wilco a lot more, but the LP album is starting to grow on me. Everything that Rick Rubin touches turns to gold, so I say congrats to LP and to Rick Rubin who has had more influence on modern music than Rolling Stone or radio executives.

I listened to the album at the store before buying it and while I was a bit puzzled after that first listen, I picked it up anyways. The album has definately grown on me in subsequent listens.
This album is exactly why, unlike many of their peers, Linkin Park is a long way from dead. They realized you can only play the same song so many times before it (and the band) just gets tired.
Dave | 5/23/2007, 1:35 pm EST
This new album is not what I expected at all. Nothing ever is in this day and age. I wanted an LP album that was conituing down the same road as Metora and Hybrid. In my opinion it doesnt even have 3 good songs on it. The funny thing is I bought it anyway. I am an idiot who loves music and I will always give them the benefit of the doubt, they deserve that. Dont know if any of you have heard Qwerty by LP but if that album had music like that I would be a very happy man. This album sucks and I bought it anyway. Nice Job LP.

Luis Velazquez | 5/23/2007, 12:12 pm EST
When Meteora came out, everyone was like “Oh God! This is Hybrid Theory Pt. 2! This sucks”. Now they try to do something fresh and new and everyone’s like “Oh! There are no heavy tracks in there! This blows! It’s EMO” Oh God, face it, you are the one that is wrong, not LP.
Fred Durst | 5/23/2007, 12:12 pm EST
LP is a band that died 5 years ago……..when their peers Korn and Limp Biscuit did as well…….RIP!
Hairme | 5/23/2007, 12:08 pm EST
Linkin Park is a piss poor band. They supposedly went through over 150 songs and put out this piece of shit album. I wouldn’t even qualify them as band considering 90% of their new album could have been made with the lead singer doing vocals and clapping his hands.
Don Vito | 5/23/2007, 12:06 pm EST

Let’s face it, this IS a pop band. They make music to appeal to the masses. They’re not artists. Last year, Tool moved 585,000 in one week without having an album full of ready-for-radio hits on it. Them selling this many records doesn’t show how talented they are, it shows they are more like Britney Spears than a rock band.

Two comments below amused me. First, I hope the person who suggested people check out Mudvayne and Taproot was just kidding.I almost threw up my coffee. Talk about a taste glut.
Second, and the one I liked even more, was the person who said the new LP record is “great” and this person is going to “buy it tomorrow.” Nothing like blind opinions from the sheep!

Linkin Park is a solid band, but they’re not the new rock messiahs nor the talenless hacks that certain groups purport them to be.
They’re just a good band with (mostly) good songs. Not reinventing the wheel, just giving it a little grease.
oh no | 5/23/2007, 10:13 am EST

why, in hell, every time a band or an artist takes a different direction in its musical orientation, changes a bit things, stirs up shit, the so-fuckin-called “fans” start cryin out like babies, feelin “betrayed” or come out with statements such as “they suck now, they are not what they used to be”
wtf, ppl! do u expect artists to always do the same songs over and over just to keep u pleased and make sure u won’t be “upset” by somethin new, that ur ears won’t be hurt??!! why don’t YOU TRY TO LISTEN to the new stuff instead and appreciate it for what it’s worth??!!
this can go for anythin rangin from Em, to Linkin Park or Metallica or RHCP or .. fuck it! any other artists who actually has the balls to bring in somethin NEW!

Do not abandon this album rock fans, songs like In Pieces and No More Sorrow give you everything you loved about LP, all they are doing now is doing a little more sharing with you. They know you will be there, they just want let you in and hear what they have to say. Proudly displaying their talents while doing it. Hands Held High, and The Little Things Give You Away are songs that deal with social issues that puzzle us everyday and do it quite beautifully I might add. We have heard Hybrid Theory and Meteora, ask yourself one thing, do we really need another LP just like it?

Ok, I really really don’t like Linkin Park and I don’t think they are doing anything interesting with music per se, but this album sale business is impressive. Regardless I think that the record industry, nay, our world is coming to a head in terms of how it exists. I think how music is being made is about to change completely regardless of mega-hit albums. Itunes is just too damn convenient to be denied. I’m pretty sure RS isn’t helping, as it lists the must-have downloads in its magazine (which is also slowly becoming obsolete due to the internet). I’m just curious (and pretty terrified) to see how it all turns out.

aside from “given up” and 1 or 2 of the slower tracks, sure the songs on the new CD are somewhat of a departure from their old sound. but if you are a linkin park fan you WILL like the CD. and yes the fans WILL buy it, as usual. the CD is good people, even if mike is not rapping on every friggin track. if you are yearning for some 90s rap-rock cheese go play your old limp bizkit CD.

THE NEW album is horrible! It is the biggest dive a band has taken since metallica and the black album! i am hurt & betrayed by what was my favorite band. There is one song that is worth keeping i threw the album away. All the raves must be coming from virgin LP wanna bee’s! Linkin Park 1999-2007 R.I.P.
