Amy Winehouse Gets Married: The Definitive Report

5/18/07, 9:28 pm EST

Amy Winehouse Does Not Get Married, Rolling Stone

As Us Weekly reported earlier today, Amy Winehouse wed fiance Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami, Florida this morning — just hours before taking part in a photo shoot for an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. According to a source, the couple had actually planned to get hitched tomorrow, but when they dropped by City Hall today to get their marriage license, they decided to do it on the spot. “I don’t want to say it was on a whim, because that makes it sound whimsical,” said the groom, who was allegedly very giddy after the morning’s nuptials. The duo — who both called their parents immediately after the quick civil ceremony to tell them the good news — plan on holding a more formal wedding with friends and family back home in England.

The one song I’ve heard by this woman sounds like a complete and utter rip-off of music that was recorded in the 50’s. Does she ever do anything original? What’s the big deal?

david | 5/18/2007, 10:59 pm EST

Best R n’ B in years. Best Produced Track this year. Most original sound in years for the R n’ B market.

BrazilianStoner79 | 5/19/2007, 9:56 pm EST

Amy is simply Gorgeous! The blood of Nina Simone is in Her. Much better than that Lily Allen. Crazy news.

Better voice in Pop music nowadays.

byyyrd | 5/19/2007, 10:08 pm EST

yeah why can’t we gets some meats

Mindful | 5/19/2007, 10:10 pm EST

Hey, could you “critics” learn the English language before you show your relative illiteracy on top of your lack of musical knowledge and/or perspective? The combination of the two shows your a**es more than you realize…

Hint: Stax/Volt Records, REAL SOUL, REAL R& B, was not a black or a white thing; it was a SOUTHERN thing. Amy Winehouse is trying for that sound.

Nice try…check out Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings…

If you want to hear Aretha’s heir apparent; it’s Sharon Jones…

Jacki | 5/20/2007, 12:46 am EST

What everyone calls “R & B” these days is crap- I’ll take the old school sound over any of the new stuff. As far as her “ripping off” the music of the 50’s- Doesn’t sound like she’s sampling anything like 90 per cent of so-called new “R & B”does- Shut up losers!

windmillie | 5/20/2007, 11:48 am EST

In Rehab is one of the best new songs I’ve heard in long time. Too bad it’s too short and even worse: it’s the only good song on the album!

Lewis | 5/20/2007, 12:14 pm EST

Spin had the storry first…and right mind you. All you music sites are the same. Get some exclusive content.

NATAS | 5/20/2007, 1:23 pm EST

She may be a target of the tabloids, but unlike a lot of singers, she actually has a hell of a lot of talent to back it up. Back to Black is the best album I’ve heard this year.

matt4p | 5/21/2007, 9:13 am EST

amy winegums is crap

mikeky | 5/21/2007, 9:21 am EST

She looks like Marissa Torme’s ugly buck toothed sister

kirbyforever | 5/21/2007, 10:14 am EST

I have to say, she’s ugly. She reminds me of Janice frome Friends.

EC123 | 5/21/2007, 11:28 am EST

So I see now…The formula to a great R+B Album is…Drum Machine+Doo Wop Horns+Retro sounding piano+Girl who sounds like she is singing with marbles in her mouth….I never knew…I gotta og get a drum machine.

Hobbs McGinter | 5/21/2007, 11:29 am EST

Thats a shame…she is gorgeous. Not in a traditional way but shes got that what the french call ‘i don’t know what.’ Her music is kinda throwback but also in a very good way.

Don Vito | 5/21/2007, 11:37 am EST

My mom gives sloppy head.

meglovesrs | 5/21/2007, 4:00 pm EST

let’s just hope she doesn’t go down the same 50-something hour marriage of Britney.

Joe Momma | 5/21/2007, 4:24 pm EST

First–Winehouse’s stuff is not formulaic, retro-gimmicky like Joss Stone or whoever else. It pays homage to the great music of the past, but has a distinctly modern vibe. Second, whether something is retro or modern or whatever, if the music is tight, the lyrics witty and meaningful, and the artistic sincerity is clear–it’s good music. Finally, there are a lot of posters who obviously can’t read or write. It’s not hip nor does it show “street cred,” or whatever–it just shows ignorance.

Joe | 5/21/2007, 5:31 pm EST

Amy Winehouse is one of the best singers to come along in the 21st century. You know, everytime a great singer comes along who is not blond, everyone wants to say she is on crack. What about that Jessica Simpson? She on crack too?

ziggywashere | 5/21/2007, 6:48 pm EST

Amy is awesome. Proving yet again Europe produces real talent and the US manufactures trash as usual(Brit,Ashley,Jessica).Plu s she’s actually got what you call a personality.

Heather J. | 5/22/2007, 4:23 am EST

She is a talented r&b singer and her music is better than most R&B music out there. However, I have heard people compare her to Lauryn Hill and that is just crazy! Lauryn is a great singer, songwriter, producer, and poet. Amy is just OK.

Krunch | 5/22/2007, 9:12 am EST

To yea its me snitches:

Your poorly spelled, grammatically disasterous, ebonics post only shows you have no grasp of the english language. How then, can you expect to appreciate Amy’s music or any other music that is more complicated then drums and grunts? Retreat to your subsidized hut and listen to Akon’s crap.

americanmusic=blackmusic | 5/22/2007, 1:07 pm EST

It may be ebonics but major white rock acts from elvis to dylan and r&b acts like winehouse, christina, timberlake etc… don’t have a problem using “ebonics” in their lyrics when it is convenient for them. There would be no such thing as rock if there was no such thing as blues music ( ebonics and all). White artist have a history of ripping off black “ebonics” music. How about white people coming up with their own genre of music (that people actually want to listen to) instead of constantly ripping off those ebonics speaking, Akon loving, hut living people.

lala | 5/23/2007, 10:33 am EST

It really pisses me off when people compare white trash amy winehouse to lauryn Hill. People who think amy can be compared to lauryn are clearly on drugs or retarded. Yes amy can sing but there is nothing similar btw the 2 lauryn is a poet,a great lyricist her music represents many things socially and politically, she is also a writer, producer, intellectual rapper and singer and amy is just a singer and she only sings about relationships. No album can touch the miseducation not in a million years. intellectual music and how is amy music compared to that.

With Lauryn sounding like a man on her new song i dont understand whats the fuss because she has always had a deep voice back from the fugees until the miseducation.

And that is what sets her apart from other female singers because she sings and raps with command she has never had that squeaky irritating voice. Please people give support because non of the music that is being played today makes sense. I am happy to see her back wish her all the best.

ips | 5/24/2007, 4:31 am EST

It is really annoying when an artist like Amy Winehouse be compared to Lauryn Hill. I really cannot figure out the similarities, yes Amy can sing and I think her sound on rehab is more like the doo wop on the miseducation even the way sings she does have copies lauryn ‘s style but she is no were near Lauryn. Lauryn is a poet, writer, producer, intellectual rapper, world-class singer, and her music represents many things (educationally, socially and politically). Amy is just a singer who sings about her relationships and experiences with drugs and alcohol and how is that is profound? People lets get real. I do love amy and her music is refreshing but she is not at lauryn’s level not in a million years.

lefa | 5/24/2007, 5:09 am EST

Why when artists who are none black venture into the mainstream black music market they have to be compared to black musical legends? Remember people once called Justine Timberlake the new Michael Jackson, Joss Stone the new Aretha Franklin, and now Amy Winehouse the white Lauryn Hill I don’t understand this and it does not make sense. There are so many black young artists who have followed in the footsteps of these three legends e.g. India Are-Lauryn, Lela James-Aretha, Usher-Michael. Initially people called Fergie miss my lady lumps from the Black Eyed Peas the new Lauryn Hill, and thought that was an insult to Lauryn. Now it’s Amy Winehouse. I will give Amy credit because she can sing but there is nothing original, profound or socially conscious about her music. There is only one chick in the music industry that reminds me of Lauryn Hill it’s obviously India Are.

Amy Winehouse’s music – She is just having fun with her music by telling us stories about her crazy and dramatic lifestyle and experiences. Amy is just a singer I don’t see her doing anything either than that unless she has hidden talents we don’t know of.

Lauryn Hill’s music – She was an educator politically, socially, educationally and emotionally. We could hear from her lyrics that she is a poet and she reads a lot of books be it inspirational or otherwise. Her music was universal it crossed colour, gender, age and culture barriers. Lauryn is more versatile as an artist because she can sing, rap, write and produce.

CC | 6/1/2007, 10:27 am EST

Lauryn Hill is one of my favourite artist of all time and Amy Winehouse has joined her in my top ranks of phenomenal voices in the last decade. Amy is a vocalist that lends more comparison to some of the blues and jazz greats like Billie, Etta and Ella. Who were hardly social icons but rather singers who sang about hardship and heartbreak. Nothing they sang was particulary social or political but it cut deep into our skin and bled with pure honesty. Why must it be a black or white thing when it comes to talent? Sadly, I have yet to see another Lauryn, black or white but Amy sure does fill the void for the time being.

Tra la la GR | 6/5/2007, 6:13 pm EST

Ok, it looks like all you can do is compare her to lauryn hill, then start saying how she shouldn’t be so R’n'B and everything.
Where are you from you people? That’s something to talk about!! European people do get her ways. American people in general have different opinions. We’re in different continents, different climates, different minds, remember?
Just piss off… A.W. is great. She has a very nice voice, the musicians she has playing with them are great AND the album production is very, very good.
Don’t underestimate her just cause she’s not black. Generally, Uk has had very many memorable and remarkable bands and artists.

Tra la la GR | 6/5/2007, 6:16 pm EST

I did not meant to say ANYTHING negative about Lauryn Hill~ just to make myself clear…

And before you start critisizing my english, like most of you do on here with each other, let me see how your greek sounds, huh?
