Keith Richards and Johnny Depp on Rolling Stone’s New Cover

5/16/07, 3:24 pm EST

Pirates of the Caribbean, Johnny Depp, Rolling Stone, Keith Richards

  • As promised, here’s the Web debut of Rolling Stone’s new cover, featuring the rock & roll combo of Johnny Depp and Keith Richards. Come back tomorrow for an excerpt of our lively and hilarious Q&A with the Pirates of the Caribbean III stars.
  • Chart Roundup: Michael Buble’s Call Me Irresponsible makes the quantum leap from #2 last week to #1 this week, as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Strength & Loyalty enters the chart in the second spot. While we’re kinda creeped out by the image of 119,000 people rushing out for the new Bone Thugs album, we take solace in the fact that Bjork’s Volta came in at #9 and Elliott Smith’s posthumous New Moon came in at #24.
  • Fergie gets introspective (boring) in her new video for “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” In the video, Fergie lies in bed with that guy from Heroes for what seems like an eternity, then performs with a back-up band that looks like it’s auditioning for Rock Star: Smashmouth.
  • According to reports, Ike Turner was arrested and locked up last night in LA. While details are sketchy, we’re pretty sure the charges stem from an outstanding felony narcotics warrant and not the usual felony wife-beating warrant.
  • Details for the Brad Delp memorial concert have been announced. Delp, the former lead singer of Boston, died in March. Among the bands performing are Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar and two Delp acts: the remaining members of Boston, and his Beatles cover band Beatlejuice.
  • What happens when you combine one of the greatest actors of our time with Duran Duran? You get the inimitable Bruce Campbell singing “Hungry Like a Wolf” in this incredible commercial for Old Spice. [via PopCandy]
  • Christina Aguilera has received a rare thumbs-up from China’s censors to perform live in Shanghai. Last year, the Rolling Stones and Jay-Z both had to cancel concerts in China due to their “indecent lyrics.” We assume the Chinese Ministry of Culture hasn’t really listened to Aguilera’s “Candyman.”

PS.. I saw this movie at the Cental Airport Plaza movie complex in ChiangMai Northern Thailand and it was mainly all Thai people in attendance and NO ONE here knows who he is or was..And when I cheered, “Long live the STONES” everyone just looked at me as to say…is that old guy a nut??

Jack Sterling | 5/30/2007, 9:11 pm EST

I fell asleep more than once during this newest Walt Disney flick.. Yes Mr. Depp is cool and when I saw Keefie baby.. i woke up.. The BEST part of this movie was Keith Richards.. PERIOD (or fullstop if your a Brit) I have to stick around to see all the credits as it mentions our man KEITH at the very, very end of all the credits.. I would have loved to see Mick and Keith do more movies over the years..Both are really talented dudes (blokes) in life. i was lucky to have met them both in London in 1970 when I was a mere lad of 23 and they both young guys of 26 and 27..Imagine hanging out with them smokin’ and jokin’ ir was a way cool time in my life… So as a 60 year old grandpa i just LOVED to see this new chapter in the on going saga of Keith and Mick…LOVE THE STONES! can’t you tell?? I just wished Janis and Jimi were here to see this movie..

Keira | 5/26/2007, 7:48 am EST

Keith and Johnny are great together. I can’t wait to see the movie. It’s a natural pairing. My favourite musician and my favourite actor together. I’d like to hear them play music together.

Pam | 5/17/2007, 2:50 pm EST

Beautiful cover of Johnny and his hero Keef. So, when does it actually come out on the newstand?

jungleland | 5/17/2007, 2:22 pm EST

Fergie’s song is lame and video is slick and predictable? That’s News????

Interesting how the top ten CDs have the combined lowest copies sold in the history of soundscan.

Does this mean that WILCO may have a #1 album this week before The White Stripes and McCartney battle it out next week?

dlt | 5/17/2007, 1:51 pm EST

? | 5/17/2007, 1:40 pm EST

Could anyone be more fugly then Keith Richards?

Nicole | 5/17/2007, 1:20 pm EST

I have seen Johnny Depp look HOT before but this is insane. I didn’t think that man could look any better but I was wrong. Thanks for the interview with both him and Keef.

abandonedstation | 5/17/2007, 10:09 am EST

i love Keef and Depp, but the cover looks awful. Depp looks like a yuppie that’s finally been reunited with his hippie father (kind of a dharma & greg thing).

Don’t bash Bone, Thugs & Harmony when they’re tussling with Buble. Sometimes your enemy’s enemy is your friend.

Ike Turner is branching out in terms of criminal offenses. I’d like to see how he’d handle stock fraud.

Boston/Cheap Trick/Sammy Hagar onstage together? It’s like a rock Frankenstein, but made out of turds.

Bruce Campbell’s doing Old Spice commercials? I guess the royalties from Evil Dead are nothing to shout about.

I wonder how many Chinese diplomats Aguilera had to get dirrty for in order to get clearance to play there.

Don VIto | 5/17/2007, 9:46 am EST

Keith Richards is an alien

mamarox | 5/17/2007, 8:54 am EST

What a great way to wake up; Depp & Keef AND Bruce Campbell!

It’s gonna be a goooooood day.

jon | 5/17/2007, 8:39 am EST

this is the pose you picked for the cover?!? Keef looks like Johnny Depp’s shy prison bitch. And Johnny’s got that “oh yeah, he’s mine” look….weird.

Mark | 5/17/2007, 8:25 am EST

Gilbert can get in line with the others who are out of touch. Rudy and McCain both believe in Evolution as do most Christians like myself.

Fyodor Dostoevsky | 5/16/2007, 10:09 pm EST

Bubba Ho-Tep! If you no not of what I speak…run to your local movie rental store and pick it up. If they don’t have it…sing Campbell’s version of Hungry Like the Wolf until they agree to pick up a copy.

Stuporfly | 5/16/2007, 9:43 pm EST

Bruce Campbell’s version of “Hungry Like the Wolf” is one of the all time great cover songs.

I’ll be sick of it within a week, but it sure cracks me up now.

Nikkidoo | 5/16/2007, 9:25 pm EST

Mmmmm Johnny Depp.

Peter | 5/16/2007, 9:02 pm EST

Bruce Campbell is GOD!

njboss | 5/16/2007, 7:27 pm EST

great cover…your best yet…but “solace in Bjork and Elliot Smith”? Holy crap…it must be the apocalypse…zzzzzzzz…wake me when it’s over……

Keef's Pick | 5/16/2007, 6:26 pm EST

My pick for cover of the year

cheesy | 5/16/2007, 5:20 pm EST

Subjective, yes, that my hatred for Fergie stems from an ex-lover and her repeated plays of this song. But “I’m going to miss you like a child misses his blanket?” She should be jailed for writing such crap.

It’s a shame that so many teenage girls idolize something so simple, regardless of the strong female identity she’s flaunting in that video.

rock on | 5/16/2007, 5:19 pm EST

Thank you, Gilbert, for putting that man in his place…I was ready to die of laughter…oh the ignorance

ryan | 5/16/2007, 5:08 pm EST

what a sick cover

Gilbert | 5/16/2007, 4:58 pm EST

Rudy Guliani and John McCain - American Heroes??? Really, Mark? Please tell me you are joking. People from all political leanings don’t believe in evolution and think the Alamo was a great date in American history, that doesn’t make it true.

I Hate Mike Anthony | 5/16/2007, 4:56 pm EST

Blasphemer!!! Bone Thugs rule

Mark | 5/16/2007, 4:34 pm EST

Nice cover, nice comment on GOP Candidates… This is why the Democrats consistently lose elections. When you have major liberal publications calling Rudy Guliani and John McCain “pathetic” you might as well go pick up some conservative voters on election day and drive them to the polls.

They are both considered American Heroes by people of all political leanings you toolboxes, stop bashing people to show your side of things and maybe you will win in 2008.

Don Vito | 5/16/2007, 4:14 pm EST

no hes gilbert grape!

Jim | 5/16/2007, 4:13 pm EST

Don Vito | 5/16/2007, 3:34 pm EST
