McCartney Says Beatles Soon To Go Digital, My Chem Fans Go After Salmonella-Serving Cafe Owner, And More

5/11/07, 8:57 am EST

Paul McCartney

  • The fact that Paul McCartney’s new album, Memory Almost Full will be released digitally indicates that the Beatles catalogue won’t be far behind. That a deal to finally make the Beatles catalog available for sale online is “virtually settled,” McCartney says.
  • The owner of Glenn Gormley’s Green Leafe Cafe, near the College of William and Mary in Virginia, where My Chemical Romance and Muse got food poisoning, is now receiving death threats. Members of both bands and their crews have been enduring salmonella poisoning, and have been forced to cancel gigs as a result. My Chem fans in particular are not pleased.
  • Soon your feedback on radio play will directly determine the success of some new bands. A partnership between USA Network and Yahoo! Music aims to ensure that some unsigned and independent artists gain exposure on TV. The deal means that Yahoo! Music and its LAUNCHcast radio service will track consumer feedback and report it directly to the USA Network. Then USA will then sign the chosen artist for an incubation period.
  • Amy Winehouse and Prince have been busy geeking out over each other. At a gig in London last night Prince said: “Respect to Amy Winehouse, respect! What a voice!” Amy, commenting on Prince’s standing offer to collaborate with her, said: “I’ll drop everything to do that… I’d do it with bells on. All day long.” Get to it, kids.
  • Back in the day (1992) My Morning Jacket’s Jim James was in another band called Mont de Sundua. And now, all these years later, the band’s previously unreleased, self-titled sophomore album is finally coming May 22 via James’ own Removador label.
  • Check out Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner, in an appearance on RS cover boy Stephen Colbert’s show last night.

It is truly a shame that these are the best comments we have to paruse from “enlightened youth” that are supposedly driving our culture.

I love MCR, but death threats? Come on, that’s extreme. Yes, food poisining is awful, but really.

Chuck | 5/11/2007, 3:55 pm EST

Sign # 10,356 that the world is ending…..

People actually issue death threats in response to some half assed emo band getting food poisoning.

nathan | 5/11/2007, 3:47 pm EST

I think this just shows what a great businessman Sir Paul really is. Now that he has given the digital music business time to prove itself as safe, effective and profitable, he can participate and do it right.

This also suggests to me that he was waiting until he could have control of the material (more Wings and Solo than Beatles of course) before he commits to digital.

For the artist that is a household name, what value does a label even have now?

Sir Paul can sell songs at $.99 all over the world from any internet connection, AND sell physical CDs at 9,000+ Starbucks stores worldwide.

This is a much better model for an artist that caters to an older demographic (really, who in their 20’s is buying McCartney music) that is more likely to go to Starbucks than a CD store.

Wow when did Rolling stone magazine become a place for ppl with limited musical taste and such hate for artist outside your musical liking? TIm it’s too bad you have the right to a computer!! Its too bad you werent a stain on your parents mattress.

In regards to giving feedback to unsigned/undiscovered artists,I think it’s cool and creative, especially for avid Launchcast listeners like myself who wants to postpone from listening to the usual suspects of chartbusting artists and is interested in someone-or anyone-more gifted, talented, and promising(especially on the indie scene). So overall it is a good bargain, especially for the next big thing(s).

Speaking of which,I know he’s already signed, yet hasn’t released an album yet(from what I believe),but look out for James Morrison.Genuine, sincere pop/rock with a hint of earnest soul-so serious.

Dear owner of Glenn Gormley’s Green Leafe Cafe, near the College of William and Mary in Virginia,

With your recent efforts to prevent us from hearing bad music and due to your success also, you will soon be receiving a wonderfull arrangement of flowers,

Yours Trully,
Franko Tanko

Salmonella is not contagious. It’s from spoiled poultry products.

Blackwood | 5/11/2007, 11:13 am EST

salmonella is one awful disease

a friend of mine had it and kept throwing up all day, even if he didn’t eat anything at all…
