Ne-Yo Makes A Splash On The Charts, More GNR Tunes, Van Morrison To Open For Stones Once Again

5/9/07, 4:39 pm EST

Ne-Yo

  • Ne-Yo overtook the charts this week with his new album Because of You. It sold 251,264 copies in its first week on the charts and secured the number one spot. Meanwhile Rush came in at number three selling 92,889 copies of their album Snakes & Arrows and landing at number three. Tori Amos’ American Doll Posse sold 53,990 copies and came in at number five while the lovely Feist sold 31,089 copies of her latest record, The Reminder.
  • As predicted, the latest leaked GNR track, “Madagascar,” is up today at Metal Sucks.
  • My Morning Jacket will be joined onstage by the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra during the band’s set at Lollapalooza, August 5th. This will be cool.
  • Van Morrison will again open for the Rolling Stones. The legendary rocker will support the Stones for two dates this summer, one on June 5th at Werchter Park, Belgium and the other on June 8th at Goffret Park, Holland. Morrison opened for the Stones last summer on two North American dates.
  • Common has a bunch of film work lined up. The rapper will play an assassin opposite Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie in forthcoming film Wanted. Common will also likely appear in Keanu Reeves vehicle The Night Watchman.

Looks like a mix between Theo Huxtable, Aunt Jemima and Queen Latifah. Gee wiz. Cool.

More great typos…how are there two albums that landed at number three this week, but none that landed at number two? I’m guessing it’s mandatory to have at least one or two per posting over there. At least there weren’t any failed attempts at humor this morning (a pat on the head for you).

Marvin,Stevie,Michael…It almost seems like Ne-yo has their characteristics. The hits he makes(as well as for other artists),the magnificent stage presence, the playalistic tatics used towards the women…he is a force to be reckoned with right now.Michael is probably sobbing and rocking back in forth in misery-via secluded bedroom.

Guns n’ Roses or Axl need to retire because he’s burned to a crisp from all the booze and drugs.
His hungry creative has been fried up and i believe that the FIRST line up had a special chemistry and magic that never happened again after Appetite that’s why Appetite is their definitive artistic statement.
There were moments that came close like coma and you could be mine but it wasn’t the same./
Even drugged out drummer Steven Adler on the first album had such a cool funky hard rock style that just blended so well withe rest of the group and when Matt Sorum took over that went away with his more titanic type of thunder power drumming.
Appetite will always be one of my fave hard rock albums and is right up there with The Clash’s London Calling and Led Zep 4 but they never repeated that formula and never will unless Axl regains his hunger and spirit and sets his pride away and makes good with the original line up.
From the Chinese Democracy tracks that have been leaked so far i can hear a former artist in disarray.
Lost and lying to himself.
10 years wait and we get this.
What a let down.

Hey delirious, “is it o.k. if I come down and sing for you?”

Oddjob | 5/9/2007, 5:40 pm EST

Aghh, they took “Madagascar” off the site already! You know, normally when there’s an album leak I never go for it because that ruins the “new album” experience for me. I made an exception with “Chinese Democracy”, though, because delaying an album for over 10 years ruins the experience even more.
