Amy Lee Marries Shrink, Busta Playing Hard Ball, Smashing Pumpkins Robbed!

  • It’s been a wild last few days for Amy Lee. First she had to rid herself of pesky bandmates, then, over the weekend, she apparently got married — to a therapist, no less! Congratulations Amy.
  • Busta Rhymes rejected a New York prosecutor’s plea deal that would have landed him in jail for a year for a assault but would have allowed him to escape punishment for the other 584,000 infractions he’s made against the law in the last year. In the last ten months Busta has been arrested four times, including early Thursday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence.
  • Bidders at a Grateful Dead memorabilia auction yesterday paid more than $1.1 million at auction for Grateful Dead-related stuff including $312,000 for a cream-colored 1975 Travis Bean electric guitar that belonged to Jerry Garcia among other items.
  • Former MTV producer Terrance Dean has written a memoir titled Hiding in Hip-Hop: Confessions of a Down Low Brother in the Entertainment Industry. The book details “the author’s life as a closeted homosexual working in the film and music industry and his relationships with other closeted homosexuals—film stars, rap artists, and music producers.” Juicy.
  • Last week, the Smashing Pumpkins’ Chicago rehearsal studio was robbed, the band’s management said in a statement, the full text of which appears after the jump. The perpetrators are now in jail.
“Management for the Smashing Pumpkins confirms that the band’s rehearsal studio in Chicago was burglarized last week.

“The two people who are now in jail illegally gained access to the band’s private space and stole various items belonging to them over the course of several hours while the band had left for the evening.

“The band’s management says the group feels their rights have been violated by this crime and will always pursue their rights and the law to protect their property and the safety of themselves, their families and their fans.”

You left out the end of the Pumpkins’ statement:

“When questioned as to the whereabouts of Billy Corgan’s relevance, authorities admitted they still had no leads.”

ell to the yeah | 5/9/2007, 1:11 pm EST

Amy Lee is a poor man’s Tori Amos, and that’s being far too generous.

in the parlance of our times | 5/9/2007, 1:06 pm EST

huzzah for using the word parlance! Now I can’t stop thinking of big lebowski quotes

ClashRock | 5/9/2007, 12:45 pm EST

Does Busta’s role in Halloween: Resurrection play in the plea bargaining?

He did kill Michael Myers. With a poorly executed kung fu kick, at that.

the phil | 5/9/2007, 12:01 pm EST

Busta and Paris should be cell mates. Please don’t ever let either of them out…

I hope Terrance Dean guy is ready to watch his back. Naming names can be very dangerous. I hope he uses some of his advance money to protect himself properly.

Franko Tanko | 5/9/2007, 11:31 am EST

Busta’s time in jail has come

Lefty Drizzell | 5/9/2007, 11:18 am EST

Busta has some damn fine tatoos. But he’s ugly, so whatever.

40oz killa | 5/9/2007, 11:12 am EST

Can we please start putting celrities in jail. When I was in college several of my peers were arrested for drunk driving. This can be a backbreaker for the normal person, fines, court costs, lawyer fees, suspened drivers liscenses, and in some case jail time. I don’t think years of mediocre albums should put a celeb like Busta aboove the law. If celebs are supposed to be role models then let them be role models and let them suffer the same consequences as the people who look up to them. Justice only works if it is fair. This guy is breaking more laws than our stupid president lets see him get some jail time.

Though not an EXPERT on internet parlance, I am almost positive you are misusing the term “The Jump.” There is just no way any “jump” was meant to refer to text that is merely FIVE words away. It just doesn’t stand to reason. At the VERY LEAST one, separate, article of news should divide the notice of a “jump” from the information we “jump” to.
