oasis Don’t Believe the Truth

Future Sound of Canada | 5/7/2007, 6:50 pm EST

That’s a terrible list…Johnny Cash is probably the only one that I agree with.

Anonymous | 5/7/2007, 7:00 pm EST

chili peppers – californication

David | 5/7/2007, 7:08 pm EST

What suggestions were you looking at? AC/DC Back in Black was on almost every suggestion as well as Bonnie Raitt. You had no intention of listening to us!!!Don’t ask again!!!

Ben | 5/7/2007, 7:17 pm EST

Linkin Park – Minutes to Midnight! YEAH!!!!!!!!!

josh | 5/7/2007, 7:17 pm EST

wow. very masturbatory list.

blinked! | 5/7/2007, 7:21 pm EST

Oasis-Don’t Believe the Truth

Not that I would ever call their career dead just because MTV and Rolling Stone didn’t cover them with preferences to American Idol or the garbage that is rap (although there a few exceptions), but this last Oasis record was the best since Morning Glory way back in 1995. Anyways, Oasis in my opinion remains the greatest band of the 90s. Sorry Grunge Rock. Sorry Rap-Rock. But BritPop is where real music was at in the 90s.

B. Breeg | 5/7/2007, 7:22 pm EST

yeah, Back in Black certainly isn’t my favorite AC/DC album, but based on how popular that album was especially after losing there lead singer it belongs on ANY comback album list. A personal suggestion: Iron Maiden – Brave New World

v | 5/7/2007, 7:25 pm EST

U2’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind

jc you still a ho biacth | 5/7/2007, 7:29 pm EST

californiacation bitches thats the best till the smashing pumpkins come out with zeitgeist on july 07 2007 that day wil be the greatest day i’v ever known

Rudy | 5/7/2007, 7:29 pm EST

Back In Black?

cheesecrop | 5/7/2007, 7:31 pm EST

Two others:
The Doors – L.A.Woman

One person mentioned Morrison Hotel, no one mentioned this. W/out this one we might view the Doors in a totally different way.

I know this is not rock, but I think it has to be mentioned:

Frank Sinatra – Songs for Swingin’ Lovers.
You don’t get the title ENTERTAINER OF THE CENTURY w/out having at least a vague clue. This is where the crooner of 38-48 becomes the swinger of 54. Another 4 decades of success follow. Begging everyone’s pardon bt THIS BEATS ALL !!!

Kevin | 5/7/2007, 7:36 pm EST

Oasis – Don’t Believe The Truth

Rory | 5/7/2007, 7:47 pm EST

I’ll have to go with Californication on this one. American Idiot was good, but number 1? Time Out of Mind trumps it.

waht | 5/7/2007, 7:50 pm EST

NAS – STILLMATIC

George | 5/7/2007, 8:05 pm EST

wow this just provides more evidence to the theory that RS loves to hump Green day any chance the get

Mm Hm | 5/7/2007, 8:06 pm EST

Paul Simon’s ‘Graceland’ is in another league above those other albums. Listing it at #5 is a joke.

Janet | 5/7/2007, 8:07 pm EST

Green Day above Bob Dylan hurts.

acdc - gnr - aic | 5/7/2007, 8:08 pm EST

I wouldn’t consider Back In Black to be a comeback album, sure Bon died and they came back with Brian Johnson and of course Back In Black is what truly broke them into the American mainstream…but by no means were their previous albums slumps…the one right before Back In Black was a little album by the name of Highway To Hell … perhaps you’ve heard of it?

P Oteman | 5/7/2007, 8:42 pm EST

Best comeback album?

Tradjically Hip- World Container!

Shane | 5/7/2007, 8:43 pm EST

Californication of course. Remember One Hot Minute? No One does.

Blake Taylor | 5/7/2007, 9:01 pm EST

Wheres the Mariah Comeback on there

Monsieur | 5/7/2007, 9:39 pm EST

What?? Green Day’s American Idiot was a credibily-killer.

Best Comeback Album?

Trey Spruance’s Secret Chiefs’ Book of Horizons

Andy | 5/7/2007, 9:47 pm EST

Wheres Cher’s “Heart of Stone” on this List!

Aus | 5/7/2007, 9:48 pm EST

Wow, I’m suprised. No love for “Supernatural” by Santana?

Dane Cook | 5/7/2007, 9:51 pm EST

WHERE THE HELL ARE HINDER?????

dig dug | 5/7/2007, 9:52 pm EST

Def Leppard’s Hysteria–could have been worse after the drummer lost an arm.

Bangers-N-Mash | 5/7/2007, 10:02 pm EST

Bat out of Hell 2?

I guess it’s cause meatloaf did ABSOLUTLY NOTHING in between both of those albums.. hmm

will wright | 5/7/2007, 10:10 pm EST

the who- endless wire
first album in over 20 years
and it was still amazing

Selga | 5/7/2007, 10:28 pm EST

Killing Joke’s self titled effort

somebody | 5/7/2007, 10:32 pm EST

American Idiot a credibility killer? Excuse me? It was and is a masterpiece.

Anonymous | 5/7/2007, 10:50 pm EST

’somebody’ needs new taste in music. masterpiece-of-crap.

duder | 5/7/2007, 11:17 pm EST

weezer the green album is up there, but Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 is the ultimate…”n***as try to be the king but the ace is back…”

BrewmasterD | 5/7/2007, 11:21 pm EST

I would think that one measure of a great comeback is that the artist did superb work at one time, and that it might possibly be worthwhile to hear more from that artist. By that measure, it’s hard to believe that Meat Loaf made this list.

Prince’s Musicology didn’t make this list? What a shame.

david | 5/7/2007, 11:23 pm EST

WTF? RS. I know your trying to connect with your onder audience but C`mon! eevry one of these are so damn old, american idiot is the only newish one.

Will | 5/7/2007, 11:32 pm EST

Are you idiots forgetting
AC/DC – BACK IN BLACK??????

For christs sakes, their singer died, who expected that band to come back and become legends?

matt | 5/7/2007, 11:34 pm EST

how about Pearl Jam (2007)? That was a pretty good comeback album.

Jon | 5/7/2007, 11:41 pm EST

I hate Green Day more than terrorism.

david | 5/7/2007, 11:48 pm EST

the fucks your problem/ green ay is great! if you dont like then its fine but its you against the REST OF THE WORLD buddy nd for the person saying AC DC and pearl jam and stuf RS. would never do anything like that `cause their so “politically correct” and they only did clasic albums or clasic bands (apart from green day, who are classic in my opinion tho) so you cant expect some thing NEW or DIFFRENT can you now?

Intelligencia | 5/8/2007, 12:14 am EST

Your list blows!

Don Henley | 5/8/2007, 12:16 am EST

Baby Boomin’
Center o’ the Universe

jonmarck | 5/8/2007, 12:18 am EST

Apparently david doesn’t realize you have to be around long enough for your career to die before it can be revived.

Green Day IS terrorism. American Idiot makes Dookie sound worse!

For some reason some people think that releasing the most successful album of a career less than a year after releasing the second-most successful is called a comeback. Back in Black might have been a miracle but it wasn’t a comeback.

kisekileia | 5/8/2007, 12:19 am EST

I’m not seeing much connection between the suggestions and the picks here. Where’s Californication?

SlappylovesGD | 5/8/2007, 12:21 am EST

Green Day deserves to be number one up there; i agree with Monsieur, it is a masterpiece.

TruthHertz | 5/8/2007, 12:30 am EST

What a waste of time.

ClashRock | 5/8/2007, 1:01 am EST

“London Calling” following up “Give ‘Em Enough Rope”

Cloud 9 | 5/8/2007, 1:02 am EST

I’ve got my mind
set on you.
I’ve got my mind
set on you.

Murray1134 | 5/8/2007, 1:17 am EST

I agree “Californication” is a great album, especially following the dismal “One Hot Minute”. What about the “Division Bell”? If you’re going to push for “Back in Black”, you have to mention “Hysteria” and “…And Justice For All”. How about Bad Religion “Suffer”? Every single Weird Al album?

Kirk In My Hole | 5/8/2007, 1:18 am EST

*immediately

Gonzlo | 5/8/2007, 1:28 am EST

I’m agree with tom, oasis don’t believe the truth was a excellent albu, and a real surpraise for everyone, I guess that anione was better than dylan’s return with time out of mind, trying to get to heaven o standing in the doorway..i think the stones shoul figure with his last studio work was awesome

Anonymous | 5/8/2007, 1:28 am EST

Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (band gets dropped from record label says f**K you and puts it out anyway, becomes a top 20 debut)

Johnny Cash- American Records albums (Johnny says goodbye to Nashville)

Bruce Springsteen- The Rising (The Boss returns due to 9/11)

Doof Dog | 5/8/2007, 1:43 am EST

Chronic 2001 and whatever album Rage is about to blow everyone away with

JebTheElephant | 5/8/2007, 2:00 am EST

Nas, “Hip Hop is Dead”
Pink Floyd, “THe Wall”

“American Idiot” is an awesome album but Green Day never had any bad album to “comeback” from. “Warning” was an awesome cd.

Larry | 5/8/2007, 2:10 am EST

The Midnight Renewal, “The New York Songs”

jim | 5/8/2007, 2:14 am EST

where the hell is all that you cant leave behind or californication!!!

betharlene | 5/8/2007, 2:33 am EST

The Traveling Wilbury’s!!!

Sandi | 5/8/2007, 3:08 am EST

#1 Santana’s Supernatural
#2 Grateful Dead’s Touch of Grey

I didn’t realize American Idiot was a comeback album. After all, they haven’t been around that long.

Michael | 5/8/2007, 4:59 am EST

Patti Smith’s Gone Again.

Mike (UK) | 5/8/2007, 5:46 am EST

Manic Street Preachers – Everything Must Go

Patrick | 5/8/2007, 5:49 am EST

Green Day are so bad they make me want to have a vasectomy

Grasshopper | 5/8/2007, 6:20 am EST

I guess the list is OK, even though none of my suggestions made the top10, and Green Day makes me want to kill a hamster…
And I guess the reason why a lot of albums that was nominated over and over again by RS readers didn´t make the list, is because they didn´t fit the RS criterias for ´comeback´. Fair enough, but next time RS start a poll, may I suggest that you give us the criterias up front? That way people won´t moan so much about the results. Just a thought…

Mrs.Ziggy Stardust | 5/8/2007, 7:50 am EST

I must agree with AC DC back in black should be #1 but American idiot was a good album … I still prefer Green Day’s older work. Like 1039 smothed out slappy hour or Kerplunk. But you also have to take into consideration that it’s going to be a popularity contest for kids not a fair one. I liked the fact that Johnny Cash made the list. I’m not going to pick on certain fans of the band but Green Day didn’t deserve it in a entirty but I’m happy to see them on top a pose to more modern bands.

fools | 5/8/2007, 7:59 am EST

“Pearl Jam”, damn Pearl Jam never put out a weak album!!! How can anyone say Riot Act and/or Binaural are weak albums!!! And Yield is a masterpiece.

SATAN | 5/8/2007, 8:10 am EST

For anybody who thinks American Idiot isn’t worthy, get off your high horse, it’s about the fact that you don’t like greenday, it’s about thye fact that they were washed up, fat, old and tired. They came out of the ashes of their horrible repetitive funk and made something that put them back on top. They were about to be served a 2nd helping of Behind the Music, and they ended up with grammy’s. Regardless of your stance on greenday, you must recognize what they’ve done, if you cannot do that than you are a dink, a no nothing twit.

CrackedLCD | 5/8/2007, 9:01 am EST

the new manic street preachers record that came out yesterday “send away the tigers” the best thing they’ve done for 11 years and 1 million times more important then anything greenday have done or will ever do!

bowmanbody | 5/8/2007, 9:04 am EST

Cloud 9 — George Harrison

Vertigo | 5/8/2007, 9:12 am EST

gotta be Private Dancer – the finest album by a female since Dusty in Memphis and Aretha, Lady Soul came from a 45 year old black woman who hadn’t had a hit in over a decade. What’s more it sold by the shed load. How many artists combine art and commerce to breakthrough to a mass audience 25 years into their career? Only Tina Turner as far as i can see…

Jacob | 5/8/2007, 9:14 am EST

Good list. I agree though RCHP Californication and U2’s ATYCLB are the ones the come to mind. Both bands return to what they know best.

rockstar70 | 5/8/2007, 9:18 am EST

I would add AC/DC-back in black
def leppard-hysteria

ANOUNIMOUS | 5/8/2007, 9:19 am EST

Guns N’ Roses – Chinese Democracy

Anonymous | 5/8/2007, 9:20 am EST

What about Tom Delonge’s comeback with the Angels and Airwaves album We Don’t Need to Whisper…..that album doesn’t have a bad song

John R. | 5/8/2007, 9:23 am EST

Bonnie Raitt pulled off a similar comeback to Tina with “Nick of Time,” except she had never been all that big to begin with. You could also put Steve Winwood, Back in the High Life on the list.

Anonymous | 5/8/2007, 9:27 am EST

loretta lynn’s van lear rose should be #1 on tbat list, idiots…

Jonh | 5/8/2007, 9:48 am EST

Led Zeppelin IV
Guns n Roses- Appettite for Destruction

jungleland | 5/8/2007, 9:49 am EST

What did Green Day come back from? I thought Warning was a huge record (as was Nimrod)Maybe they reached a younger audience on American Idiot, but they were a major player the whole time IMO

(Also WARNING is their best CD, I prefer it to American Idiot)

Scenic Anemia | 5/8/2007, 9:53 am EST

In terms of being the biggest comeback, as in being at the brink of nothingness and coming out of nowhere with a masterpiece that completely saves and revitalizes a career, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan HAVE to be #1 and #2. In terms of the actualy quality of the albums, well, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan HAVE to be #1 and #2. I don’t really disagree with anything on the list, just the order they are in. I do agree that, if it even has to be on the list, Permanent Vacation should be last. In artistic terms, that’s just another chapter in the long, slow decline of Aerosmith that began after the “Rocks” album.

Rich | 5/8/2007, 9:57 am EST

Always thought Pretenders “Last of the Independents” was quite a come back.

Nicolas | 5/8/2007, 10:14 am EST

I really don’t think you’ve acknowledged the meaning of “comeback”. When did Green Day have a pause on their career? Besides, American Idiot isn’t that good, it’s only using politics for selling more albums (as so was sex, religion, or whatever, used).
A huge comeback I’d say it was Madonna’s Ray of Light. It brought her back to music after her motherhood pause and totally changed her sound.
That’s “comeback”.
Boy, you’ve disappointed me muchly these last times.

frog | 5/8/2007, 10:39 am EST

Green Day, unfortunately, never went away. I can’t wait for the day that they do.

Todd Kearns | 5/8/2007, 10:47 am EST

When glassJAw’s comeback album hits this year, I’m sure it will deserve the status of being included in such a list.

How about Weezer with “The Green Album,” which was brilliant in it’s hook-heavy pop simplicity (which was in great contrast to Pinkerton – the previous album).

tbone | 5/8/2007, 10:51 am EST

Steve Earle’s “I Feel Alright” after he did nothing for years except do drugs and go to jail.

Can’t disagree with Back in Black or Aerosmith.

Kyle | 5/8/2007, 10:52 am EST

Californication – RHCP
Back in Black – AC/DC

those definately need to be there.

…Relly, the most impressive one on that list is Tina Turner. Think abou t it. With Ike…getting beaten all the time…and then showing up 20 years later and becoming super-famous.

CLP | 5/8/2007, 10:53 am EST

“Some Girls”. Summer of ‘78. The Rolling Stones were suddenly “hip” again.

h_e_n_r_y | 5/8/2007, 10:57 am EST

when will people learn Green Day is crap…

Cafe Wha? | 5/8/2007, 11:15 am EST

Green Day has punk rock musician skills without the attitude.

SATAN | 5/8/2007, 11:26 am EST

Green Day was much better when they wrote songs about wackin off and gettin high.

Sam | 5/8/2007, 11:26 am EST

Green Day should remain six feet beneath the sod. Pop-punk should have died a long time ago. Thank you so much for continuing it’s cruel reign over the air waves. And also Dylan should have like 3 albums on there, he’s definitely made more than one comeback. Same with Neil Young.

Dan | 5/8/2007, 11:33 am EST

Bruce Springsteen–The Rising

Loretta Lynn–Van Lear Rose

Johnny Cash–American Recordings

Pearl Jam–Yield

The Who–Endless Wire

Strange Behavior | 5/8/2007, 11:40 am EST

Comback albums mean that there is more than one hit off that album.
Aerosmith-Pump
Duran Duran-The Wedding Album
Red Hot Chili Peppers-Californication

Garry | 5/8/2007, 11:41 am EST

Does anyone else feel like RS just keep included Green Day on these lists to incite posts on the wall? If they made proper lists nobody would have anything to post about.

*&%% | 5/8/2007, 11:48 am EST

if i hear one more uninformed person bitch about how green day isnt a good band cuz their guitarist isnt good, i’m gonna flip. their bassist and drummer are as good as they get. they write good songs get over it. oh yeah and they saved rock like two years ago for my generation so i’d say ppl owe them about the credit thats given

scott | 5/8/2007, 11:58 am EST

red hot chili peppers-californication

Justin | 5/8/2007, 12:00 pm EST

Freedom is a good album

David22 | 5/8/2007, 12:13 pm EST

OK it’s been almost 24hrs. Are you now going to at least admit you blew it with Back in Black. Read the comments!!!!It’s either some idiot subjecting us to an analytical breakdown of the “genius” of Green Day, or someone calling for Back in Black. You’re the like an ump who blew a huge call. Where is Back in Black on the all-time sales list. YOU F”D UP!!!Re-do the list.

T | 5/8/2007, 12:16 pm EST

Californication-Obvious!!!!!

Dan | 5/8/2007, 12:23 pm EST

Mighty Rearranger – Robert Plant

Jim | 5/8/2007, 12:23 pm EST

Achtung Baby by U2. That was a heck of a comeback after Rattle and Hum.

yawn | 5/8/2007, 12:33 pm EST

Weren’t some of these just the artist’s “next album”? A “comeback” implies that the artist has been gone for quite a few years…not two.

phokus | 5/8/2007, 12:40 pm EST

Camper Van Beethoven – New Roman Times!!!

Tim | 5/8/2007, 12:45 pm EST

why does everyone post the same friggin bands? read the comments b4 u post…its just common courtesy

charliemapleton | 5/8/2007, 1:02 pm EST

Here’s several extra pieces:

Michael Jackson-”Bad”(the BEST album of all time!)
Stevie Wonder-”Songs In The Key Of Life”
Whitney Houston-”My Love Is Your Love”
Lalah Hathaway-”Outrun The Sky”
Brandy-”Afrodisiac”
Mon ica-”After The Storm”
Teena Marie-”La Dona”
Cam’ron-”Come Home With Me”
Nelly-”Sweat”,”Suit”
Emi nem-”The Eminmem Show”
Outkast-”Idlewild”
Ala nis Morrisette-”Supposedfomerinfat uationjunkie”
Fiona Apple-”Extrordinary Machine”

If you ask me,I think it’s cool Green Day’s “American Idiot” went to #1.It’s an illustrious collage of all the spontaneous, sometimes silly,straight-to-the-point tracks and anthems we’ve all come to know, understand, and love, tracing back to their last several albums.Green Day have grown from punk rock rebels to forward thinking dictators, especially in a time where the most groundbreaking subject in music today is of a one human disaster:George W. Bush.So who better than to have Green Day lyrically(and righteously)batfowl an ever crashing and burning dodo bird like our old Mr. President? In perspective,”American Idiot” shows Green Day have completely come in full circle and hit like a slingshot.Joe Strummer would be smiling proudly today.

Harry Smith | 5/8/2007, 1:18 pm EST

Guns N’ Roses – Chinese Democracy

Sorry; I could not resist.

for Green Day haters!!!!!! | 5/8/2007, 1:21 pm EST

If you don’t like Green Day,it doesn’t say that these guys didn’t worth the first place!!!!
AI isn’t only great album, this album changed lifes all many GD fans and of course it explained many things about US goverment.

Mike74 | 5/8/2007, 1:28 pm EST

I think The Emancipation of Mimi by Mariah Carey deserves to be on the list. Or is Miss Carey too uncool for RS?
Anyway…it’s a good album and she is a great artist. After 2 flops (Glitter and Charmblacelet) she cam eout with the best selling album of 2005. Not bad.

SATAN | 5/8/2007, 1:39 pm EST

charliemapelton, I agree w/ you except The Eminem Show, I thought the marshall mathers lp was awesome, his best work perhaps, so I wouldn’t call the eminem show a comeback album

Nick N. Bud | 5/8/2007, 1:42 pm EST

What a bunch of Non-Rock emo geek ideas. Let me get you started on the real list.
1. Deep Purple – Perfect Strangers
2. Black Sabbath – Heaven & Hell
3. AC/DC – Back in Black
Now go climb back under the rocks you crawled out from!

Jupiter | 5/8/2007, 1:58 pm EST

yep…Mariah Carey deserves a place on the list.

alberto | 5/8/2007, 2:00 pm EST

Madonna’s “Ray of Light” to me was a great comeback album. Reminded me she still loved music after becoming a mother and no new music from her for 4 years.

Ibangedyurmom | 5/8/2007, 2:11 pm EST

Kiss unplugged awsome.

Dave | 5/8/2007, 2:39 pm EST

Wheres the other 15 i thought we got 25

Ibangedyurmomandad | 5/8/2007, 3:05 pm EST

Bad Company – Rock & Roll Fantasy

Kevypoo | 5/8/2007, 3:09 pm EST

I think Steely Dan’s “Two Against Nature” is a glaring omission. To release an album like that a full twenty years after their last studio effort that maintains the exact same sound and lyricism that made them legendary is amazing to me. I also think U2’s “All that you can’t…” and Santana’s “Supernatural” should be on the list somewhere.

Jimmy Gunns | 5/8/2007, 3:14 pm EST

Californication……..RHCP

begreen | 5/8/2007, 3:17 pm EST

GD never needed to “come back”
they rocked all along

Anonymous | 5/8/2007, 3:33 pm EST

WHAT! I FEEL ASHAMED TO EVEN COME TO THIS SITE ANY MORE SINCE SEEING AS HOW THE GREATEST COMEBACK ALBUM OF ALL TIME, AC/DC’S BACK IN BLACK, NEVER MADE IT. I THOUGHT THIS SITE WAS ALL ABOUT ROCK AND ROLL? GREENDAY GET TOP NODS!!!????

DAN FROM CHICAGO

tom | 5/8/2007, 3:36 pm EST

Creed’s “babies crying”

david | 5/8/2007, 3:40 pm EST

the people who say that GD never needed to come back I agree with you HOWEVER they were not that popylar Dookie was HUGE! IT WAS FREAKIN1 WONDERFULL. then isnominac was good but it never got that popular. same goes for nimrod. warning was really NOT that popular among fans, and they released a greatest hits albu and a B-sides collection, both of which hinted at falling apart. then their cigeretts and valentuines album got stolen, so AMERICAN IDIOT is what put them on top.and we should have alot of things that ppl are saying BUT what new things, ppl? GD. id the only one that is new, except 4 meatloaf, who is an acient band. what about…The Green Album by wezer(folling their hated pinkerton.) pinkerton was good but it was nt popular at all and RS. called it the worst album of the year.

Ernie D. | 5/8/2007, 5:05 pm EST

Janes Addiction “strays” has to be up there. By the Way, When your Bob Dylan, every disc is great, just different. Never a comeback

T-Nasty | 5/8/2007, 5:52 pm EST

Green Day tops the list? Some American Idiot wrote this list.

ryan | 5/8/2007, 6:04 pm EST

grateful dead in the dark

JaphyRSnyder | 5/8/2007, 6:11 pm EST

Mission of Burma – ONoffON

John | 5/8/2007, 6:22 pm EST

90125 was a STUNNING reinvention of Yes, attracting new fans while retaining their old ones. It also introduced the older Yes songs to a new, younger generation who had no idea of Yes’ career before 90125.

Chris | 5/8/2007, 6:38 pm EST

Green Day – number one? explains the government? Wow, rock is dead.

Rod | 5/8/2007, 8:54 pm EST

Lou Reed – New York

RollingStone67 | 5/8/2007, 9:51 pm EST

Rush’s new “Snakes & Arrows” is their best work in over 20 years. Brilliant.

Khanlari | 5/8/2007, 11:36 pm EST

I’m gonna have to say

Bad Religion – Empire Strikes First

Not that they really ever went away, but it was a really great album after a couple misses.

joe | 5/8/2007, 11:36 pm EST

kid a

Kerplunk! | 5/8/2007, 11:59 pm EST

Hell Yeah Green Day is the best band ever.

Bauhaus | 5/9/2007, 12:55 am EST

what about the red hot chilly peppers, their come back with the second line up. That album californication.

Mr.Tim | 5/9/2007, 2:06 am EST

Double Fantasy – John Lennon

DOH!!!

Rancid Planet | 5/9/2007, 3:38 am EST

Why Californication? One Hot Minute sold tons even if Navaro never really fit the mold.

What about Pearl Jam’s last record for a comeback album?

Quit living a lie PJ fans. Everything after No Code had been a let down and you know it. Untill they dropped that last bomb on us that is.

Eddie finally grew the hair back out and he looks like a full on bum again these days. You know those boys are back.

psychomikey | 5/9/2007, 5:06 am EST

kiss-psycho circus the original four back together, even though it never happened again, was great to see and hear

Stuporfly | 5/9/2007, 8:09 am EST

I may not like most of the albums on that list, but it’s hard for me to fault their inclusion. Still, I’d have been much happier to see the following than Meatloaf…

The Charlatans – Tellin’ Stories
The Verve – Urban Hymns
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication or Mothers Milk

J.SAULLY | 5/9/2007, 10:21 am EST

ACDC back in black….should be #1 above GD and for someone posting CREED….what a terrible band from a terrible point of view….

yeah | 5/9/2007, 10:29 am EST

I agree, no AC/DC? what a crime. RS, just shoot yourselves now.

Sean | 5/9/2007, 10:53 am EST

I loved Dookie it was like the first CD I replayed over and over and over. American Idiot is not the same green day it is a 6 piece band now, it is not a comeback album it is reinvention, all the other ones on the list were not reinvention

likearollingnick | 5/9/2007, 11:05 am EST

Mystery Girl by Roy Orbison. He’d been around for 30 years and went out at the top of his game, classy and catchy as hell.

achamber | 5/9/2007, 11:34 am EST

of course greenday should be #1 because they got me into music, they made me listen, cause without them i wouldn’t know who the clash or the who are in fact any of those great bands.

kingrick | 5/9/2007, 12:37 pm EST

The Cult-Beyond Good and Evil

Jane’s Addiction-Strays

Public Enemy-Revolverlution

Jesse H. | 5/9/2007, 12:46 pm EST

Why the hell is Meat Loaf on there?
is the come back list an eating contest?
Best comeback suggestions
Pearl Jam=-Pearl Jam
U2-All you can’t leave behind
Bruce Springsteen-The Rising.
Loretta Lynn_Van lear rose.
Once again you have dropped the
ball on your “lists.”

thatguy | 5/9/2007, 1:16 pm EST

What about Santana’s Supernatural? Look at how forgotten he had become, and then that album blew up, winning 8 grammys and going 15x platinum. If the list was meant to be the biggest comebacks, this definitely should have made the list. If it was best albums that were comebacks, it was at least better than Meat Loaf.

JimNYC | 5/9/2007, 1:29 pm EST

Neil Diamond 12 Songs.

the album is an indie rock bible-90 percent emotion,10 percent bombast and 100% great pop rock songwriting.

Sean | 5/9/2007, 1:34 pm EST

I can totally understand picking a Johnny Cash album but American Recordings (a great album) over Live at Fulsome Prison?

Billy | 5/9/2007, 2:12 pm EST

the choices for Pearl Jam’s last album kind of make me laugh.Mixed reviews and total public indifference (even with Clive Davis’ money) do not = a comeback.

Janes Addiction -Strays?come on.

?????????? | 5/9/2007, 2:20 pm EST

Boston’s Third Stage?? what about that one, hmmmmm…

John Kerry (aka Proud Illness) | 5/9/2007, 2:55 pm EST

Sorry Billy, but you’ve gone astray. Pearl Jam’s selftitled has received virtually universally positive reviews–including 4 1/2 stars and a “Best PJ album since Vitalogy” nod from AMG. The album remains a steady seller, on the basis of word of mouth and a love by some for all things Pearl Jam, more than anything else.

Not to mention that every-album diehards and No Code abandoners alike adore the record.

UP THE IRONS!! | 5/9/2007, 3:06 pm EST

Brave New World – Iron Maiden

DOH!!!

Geoff | 5/9/2007, 3:22 pm EST

What a stupid number one. Just because American Idiot was the most recent comeback, doesn’t make it the best. What a recency pick.

And not putting Beggar’s Banquet on here instead of, say, Meatloaf, is just flat out stupid. Beggar’s Banquet came out when people had been saying the Stones were done for almost two years, while the group’s popularity was slipping, it followed the failed attempt of psychedelia with Their Satanic Majesties Request, and came out while Brian Jones was facing jail charges/fading out of the group. It got the band back to its blues roots and kicked off one of the greatest runs in rock history. Talk about a comeback album.

Billy | 5/9/2007, 4:04 pm EST

mention the self titled pearl jam album as a big comeback to anyone outside their fanbase and they will laugh.Yes,better promotion
from J Records & Clive Davis improved sales just a little from Riot Act.But selftitled has no lasting impact or relavance. It was just the same quasi stadium-punk from a 40-something singer who has stopped having anything to say after No Code. And worse, somehow has morphed into Sean Penn.

minutes to midnight is a comeback album? have you even LISTENED to hybrid theory or meteora? neither one of those bombed, and if anything linkin park is going to have to come out with a new one to COME BACK from m2m because if i wasn’t told who made the songs, i wouldn’t guess that half of them were linkin park, i’d considered it some sort of pop/ish thing which really depresses me…MAKE ANOTHER HYBRID THEORY! IT NEVER GETS OLD!

quite simply its californication by RHCP. when around the world first starts its take your pants off time!

John Kerry (aka Proud Illness) | 5/10/2007, 8:26 am EST

The selftitled has pulled in new fans and has regained the respect and album sales from former fans. That much is obvious and reflected in the numbers: It’s more than a slight sales bump from Riot Act, as it remains a steady seller after J records’ part because people like it.

Vedder’s political pen is actually what makes it relevant, but with that “Sean Penn” bit, you made your personal reasons for bashing the album apparent.

Mikey T | 5/10/2007, 9:52 am EST

The Chemical Brothers – Push The Button

Johnny (South Africa) | 5/10/2007, 9:59 am EST

Springbok Nude Girls – Peace Breaker (first album in 5 years)

For all you guys in US who love alternative rock, get your hands on this South African group’s music. If they were American they would be rock gods but the rock market so small here and they have never been backed overseas by record companies. Very unique sound so impossible to describe. Amazing live.

Stevie Wonder-”A Time To Love”

A motivational speaker,a spiritual advisor,an ever-so-versatile studio craftsman,a knowlegable diplomat, and one of the key musical influences of any artist(and groups and bands)in existence today…and still, after a 10 year hiatus, doesn’t get an honorable mention?

Baffling,yet crutty.

Veronica | 5/10/2007, 1:33 pm EST

Anyone remember N.K.O.T.B.-Face the Music, 1993? Now that is what I call a comeback. A tougher, edgier more sophisticated boy band.
And what about George Michael’s Older album, 1998? You might want to call him the “Comeback King”.

Oops. I forgot Black Sabbath’s 1980 masterpiece LP with then-new singer Ronnie James Dio, “Heaven and Hell.” Following two so-so albums with Ozzy (who was fired/left in 1979), “H & H” hushed all the nay-sayers who said Sabbath was dead without Ozzy.

Peace!

I am old enough to remember that in 1968 the Rolling Stones had their first comeback with “Beggars Banquet” after the less than good reviews for “Satanic Request” and the various legal problems. This was followed up with the 1969 tour & recording. Their next comeback was in 1976 with their “Miss You”. Another was more recently when the “Glimmer Twins” stopped their feuding and took the band back on the road. I think the Rolling Stones are the champions of the come back. However, keep an eye on Raymond Douglas Davies to pull a rabbit out of his hat!

I don’t think Charliemapleton (5/8) understands ‘comeback album’ since Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’ was hardly a comeback after ‘Thriller’. Also, Stevie Wonder’s ’songs in the key of life’ was the end of a magnificent run he had in the early to mid 70’s, not a comeback.

im disappointed Nick of Time (bonnie raitt) didn’t make the 10; deserved it more than Harrison bc. Raitt’s was an actual comeback–a sustained revitalization signaled by a great album, whereas Harrison’s wasn’t a permanent return to form, more like a very good one shot

Bob in Denver | 5/15/2007, 8:38 pm EST

Hey Guys for a comeback you have to go away for a bit, reform or lose a founding member of the band and try to go on. Don’t you think?

AC/DC – Back in black
Deep Purple – Perfect Strangers
Glen Hughes – Addiction
UFO – Walk on Water
Iron Maiden – Brave New World
Ozzy – Speak of the Devil
Golden Earring – Paradise in Distress
B.O.C. – Heaven Forbid
Black Sabbath – Heaven and Hell, Born again & Dehumanizer
(ok I’m a Sabbath fan, big time)
Peter Wolf – Long Line
Jeff Beck – (Take your pick)

So thats 11 sue me.

I think Green Day making number one is amazing and well deserved. They’re great musicians, as is everyone on the list.

There are some others who I think should have made it. But, you could only pick ten. But I agree with Green Day being number one 100%

True their music has changed, but they’ve gotten older and they’re writing about what they feel like writing about and that is what music is, personal expression. And apparently their ideas and beliefs are the same as a lot of other peoples as well.

People were trying to make statements before them, IE, Dixie Chicks, but got their asses handed to them. Green Day came up and just made it easier for people to say what it was on their mind.

Ron | 5/17/2007, 8:50 am EST

I love this album! One of the best albums I’ve ever heard! Besides, the song Wake Me Up When September Ends is the reason why I started to like Greenday. They’re really a cool band!

I am so happy to see that Green Day is number one. They are the best band not just what they have done for music but also what they do for humanity. Warning is a great album and was over looked by many. American Idiot is the best rock opera ever!

Green Day changed my life more then any other music out there. And they’ve done so much for people. They write the best music ever! =)

Tom | 5/17/2007, 10:55 am EST

I’ve been a huge fan of Green Day since 93 or 94. After the Dookie era, Green Day seemed to get pissed on all the time while having declining record sales. So when American Idiot was released it was great to see the band get the recognition they deserved once again.

brit | 5/17/2007, 10:59 am EST

Green Day deffently deserved that award. They have been my favorite band ever since I was a little kid, and they always will be. I can’t thank them enough for making the music that makes me feel like I am on top of the world.

as much as i think warning is a great album, it didnt reach any where near the success of their previous 3, so it was like 7 years since green day made a ”great” album, and many people wrote them off. then american idiot was released, selling 15 million copies in 2 years, and it sort of shocked everyone. it’s not my favorite green day album but i think it’s by far their best.

JENNIFER | 5/17/2007, 3:38 pm EST

I HAVE LOVED GREEN DAY SINCE 1994 AND HAVE LOVED ALL THE MUSIC AND THE PROGRESSION IT HAS TAKEN OVER THE YEARS. I THINK AMERICAN IDIOT WAS JUST WHAT WAS NEEDED AT THE TIME IT CAME OUT BECAUSE THERE WAS HARDLY ANY REALLY GOOD ROCK AT THE TIME. IT LEAD THE WAY FOR SOME GREAT BANDS THAT HAVE COME OUT IN THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. ALSO NO ONE CAN BEAT THEM LIVE I DARE SOMEONE TO TRY. THEY DO WHAT ALL ROCK BANDS SHOULD HOPE ONE DAY TO BE ABLE TO DO AND THAT IS TO JUST DO WHAT IT TAKES TO BE THE BIGGEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. AND I THINK THEY WILL KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER

To clarify a couple things:

Green Day has been around for a long time.. about 18 years, as a matter of fact. So whoever said they “haven’t been around for long” needs to chew on glass.

And to everyone who likes to hate on Green Day and then posts their almost-biblical honorings of Deep Purple and ****ing Led Zeppelin. Learn what punk rock and pop punk is. It’s not for everyone. It’s for a certain kind of person. You can’t understand it unless you grew up with it, unless it’s burned into you, and unless it’s as much apart of you as your arms. Ripping on Green Day because of things like “oh they wear all black and makeup” and “they can’t play their instruments” isn’t only ignorant, it’s completely wrong. They play their instruments better than most bands out there. Billie Joe is nowhere near the greatest guitarist in the world, but he is certainly awesome at it. Try listening to some of thier older stuff off of 1030/Smooth or Kerplunk, or see them live.. you’ll see he’s not some cookie-cutter guitarist. And plus, guitar isn’t the only instrument in a band. Mike and Tre are two of the best musicians out there right now. When they all come together they make great music. Lack of repetitive solos doesn’t mean a band is bad. Us Green Day fans? we like our music fast and loud. You can ****ing keep your 4 minute solos and guitar-controlled boring garbage; we’ll continue enjoying our 3 chords and intense drums and headrolling bass.

David | 5/17/2007, 4:17 pm EST

American idiot is Green Day’s best work to date. i know dookie is good but dookie is missing something that american idiot has.

greendaygoddess | 5/17/2007, 4:35 pm EST

I’ve been a fan of Greenday for 3 and a half yrs. It was American Idiot that made realise what a great band Greenday were, then I ended up buying their other albums and then I realised what have i bin missin. greenday kick ass n i luuuuuuuv them 2 bits.

Muddy Waters | 5/17/2007, 4:41 pm EST

I agree with Dan’s posting regarding Bruce Springsteen’s The Rising. Initaliy, I thought that it was heavey handed – dealing with 9/11, and all. I recently listend to the entire cd, and it is a very good comeback. Don’t agreee, give the song “Further On, Up The Road” a listen.

Marcela GD girl | 5/17/2007, 5:29 pm EST

I also find out about green day with american idiot. Before I listened to it, I didn’t really listened to music, and when I did,it was britney spears or some crap like that…One day,I find out my father had dookie and nimrod and that was when they became my favorite band of all time!Whoever thinks that because they are mainstream, they’ve become “sell outs” is a freakin idiot.Green day proved that a band can be mainstream and still be awesome, creative and fight for their own beliefs.Awsome list and green day forever!

Then there was the few who seemed to have some sense about them. personally, i think we should just trash the list…and MTV, while we’re at it. Nobody’s gonna agree on music,

oldcastaway16 | 5/17/2007, 10:07 pm EST

I agree with much of what everyone is saying…. There is that sense that Green Day never really went away, so technically shouldnt be a “comeback” album. However, Chris is right too. Things are not always black and white – look to the grey area! Green Day has been making music since 1989, before many of you were born!! It is the combination of the THREE (four if you count Jason white) of them making music TOGETHER that makes them great!! THe music speaks of life – contemporary issues facing us all – doesnt mean that you have to agree with Green Day’s beliefs, just start to THINK about your own in those situations!! THAT makes them great.

Marcela GD girl | 5/17/2007, 10:32 pm EST

I also think that it’s not exacly a comeback…Warning, shenenigans and international superhits are great albuns, but american idiot was their first huge album since dookie. But all of their albuns are great, including,of course,1039/smoothed out slappy hours and kerplunk.Green day, before anything else,is a band of friends that play what they like. And I also agree with everything Chris, and most of you guys said!: )

Tyler | 5/18/2007, 12:50 am EST

To all you guys that say Green day sucks, they have inspired every band within the last 10 years. Their music is doing what the Clash and the Ramones did for them to us. They are an amazing band and all can rock the hell out of their instruments. Listen to all 10 recorded cds. You can hear some amazing solos and 3-chord riffs by Billie Joe, crazy fast beats and solos by Tre, and intense riffs by Mike.

Most people who say they suck are just going along with the crowd. People seem to think they sold out but if you can share your beliefs with more people by going major label and maybe even change the world like they did, why wouldnt you do it?!?

Also, I know American Idiot shouldn’t be considered a comeback album but in case you didn’t know, when Green Day’s rough recordings were stolen in Oakland, the 3 of them almost ended it. Then they wrote Homecoming. And American Idiot built around that.

It is a concept album that relates to our time. The lyrics are so well-written, sometimes you just have to pause in the middle of a song and think about what you just heard. Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool have, yes, moved on from their old fun ways, but have matured so much in writing. Not very many people can appreciate what they accomplished but I do.

Also, Green Day is the BEST live performance you will ever see!!! Even if you don’t like them, they put on an AMAZING show!!!

One more thing, to all you metal heads, Zack Wylde was asked who his top guitar players were in the world and he listed Billie Joe because he can come up with some catchy riffs and can solo surprisingly well.

sasquatch-nimrod | 5/18/2007, 3:01 pm EST

“Green Day isn’t punk! =P”

whoever said that peice of crap. cos in my opinion, you may not b punk either. but to me, punk is a state of mind, a lifestyle. if they call themselves punk and are true to it, then they are true punkrockers. I. LOVE. GREEN. DAY. and i hate ppl hu think that they are rubbish cos of thier fame and success. they worked hard to get there and it was all about the music. as the great Billie once said himself, “i write for myself and i’ll say anything i damn well please”. i know you beautiful TRUE fans will stay loyal to GD, and i will too =) xx xx xx xx to all ppl out there, hu have nothing against green day for what they sound or look or act like.

Man Chris you’re awesome give those idiots something to choke on. I don’t really think American Idiot is a “comeback” album, but it was bigger than Warning. People are always gonna hate Green Day because they’d rather listen to something where the lead singer is retarded so he simply screams and the guitarist just tries to snap the strings while the drummer attempts to break something. But I’d rather hear a band that plays their instruments well (especially Tre) and a singer i can understand. Wow imagine that…

Sheila | 5/18/2007, 5:56 pm EST

way to go Green Day!

Grace | 5/19/2007, 7:54 am EST

Who ever says Green Day is not punk really bugs me. They are very punk. See punk is something you grow up with, something you live with. Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre have been punks since their teen years. I still consider American Idiot was actually a bit of a comeback album, because know one heard if green day for a long time period so some just thought they had went away. But lots of others knew they would come back and be bigger then they have ever been before.

see, yeah, i totally agree with the comment below (whoever you actaully are lol)
punk is bout being what you wanna be. apart from my chemical romance, i feel as if green day made me who i am now. they were the first example of proper rock music i heard (crap with screaming that cannot be undersstood unless you read lyrics just doesnt count) and from then on, i have dressed the way i wanted to, listened to what i wanted to and acted just…me. if anyone had anything against me for it, then i wouldnt let them put me down. THAT IS THIER MESSAGE!! to be yourself and never let anybody put you down. need i say it again- i love green day. and they made me who i am now =D xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx
oh yeah, this message is just in general to all the beautiful GD fans out there. following thier music makes you my friends =P

Whatsername? | 5/20/2007, 1:55 am EST

I agree with all the fans. its who you wanna be, be the rebel the outcast just dont succumb to comformity. Screw everyone else, we know what real punk is. Screamo and emo bands are just wanting attention, they think they have life so bad. Punk is about picking ur self up and kicking the world or anyone who gets in the way.. in the nads. Be who you wanna be. Don’t let anyone get you down. Green day taught me that, if it weren;t for them and their kick ass music. I probably wouldn’t be alive to this day.

Whatsername? | 5/20/2007, 1:57 am EST

And for all you teenie boppers, stop pretending to be so “punk” and go leach on to another genre of music. there is no room for posers, we speak the truth.

SuperSkid | 5/20/2007, 4:43 am EST

I am happy with Green Day being top, but you just can’t be missing masterpieces like Californication. The return of Frusciante to the Peppers was a miracle, and this album was just absolutely incredible.

numb | 5/20/2007, 6:23 am EST

Don´t claim that Green Day is punk, please!
It really freaks me out!
Listen to real punk like ; Discharge, Sex Pistols, Distillers, Stiff Little Fingers, Rancid, Exploited, Dead Kennedys, Flogging Molly, Twopointeight.etc.
And you´ll see what I´m talking about!
I still like Green Day though, but atleast I´m smart enough to know that they´re not punk!

tyler | 5/20/2007, 6:42 am EST

Congrats to Green Day, my favorite band ever! The 5 best bands ever are as Follows: Green Day, The Distillers, Anti-Flag, Rancid, and Bad Religion. And to numb, Green Day IS punk. People say they arent punk when those same people are emo and listen to MCR, FOB, and
P!ATD… and thats only because Green Day gets the attention the emo kids only try to get! And to anyone who says American Idiot was a ploy for them to sell out consider this- Dookie sold 10-12 million albums while Am. Idiot only sold 4 million. If being less popular than before is selling out, then up is down and down is up! *Live without warning*

tyler | 5/20/2007, 6:45 am EST

*applause* for Tyler with a capital T… not me another Tyler down the page!

sasquatch-nimrod | 5/20/2007, 7:43 am EST

“Don´t claim that Green Day is punk, please! It really freaks me out! Listen to real punk…I still like Green Day though, but atleast I´m smart enough to know that they´re not punk!”

arrrgh!!! shut up with the whole “i know what punk is and i know that they are not” shtick already!!!
green day are punk cos they are true to it. GOT THAT? TRUE TO IT!!! and how can you like em and say that about them??? what the hell is real punk? punk is about believing in what you are and giving the middle finger to anyone who put you down- about originality. that is what green day are. what they believe in.

btw, i agree with Tyler…sort of…just lay off the emo crap. being emo is good, unlike the typical emo we associate to bands like P!ATD and MCR. Panic! are cool, MCR are freakin amazing! along with GD, the best band in the world. and they take thier advice from green day and are friends with em, so, honstly, why should we have anything against MCR??? but yh, maybe i misunderstood, but i agree with what u sed bout GD =)

>=( stop with the whole “i know what punk is” scene. u don’t know anything. got it? sheesh. i h8 labels…ppl should be alowd to b who they want to b, without any critisism (sp?)

Marcela GD girl | 5/20/2007, 1:04 pm EST

People, why do we even care about explaining to the people that think that green day is not punk that they are punk?WE ,REAL FANS,KNOW THEY ARE PUNK!If some people doesn’t agree with that, that’s their problem. And the most important thing is that before green day being punk, they are green day,and that’s my favorite thing about them!= D

hannah | 5/20/2007, 1:18 pm EST

does it matter if green day are punk or not?
the music is good.
end of.
get over it.
it is getting old.

sasquatch-nimrod | 5/20/2007, 2:22 pm EST

you know what, Marcela GD girl- ur absolutely right. lol, screw these ppl- we are true GD fans. we know whats what about them. =) im not gonna explain anymore, but i want to stick up for them. but whatever

f.o.d_nimrod | 5/20/2007, 2:50 pm EST

that’s so great that green day is number 1! they deserve it, and it’s true. not that i don’t like their other albums, but after dookie they really didn’t do that well and once american idiot came out, it was just as big as dookie. i think it’s great! good for you guys!

PROKHOR | 5/21/2007, 4:28 am EST

I think these results are right. To my mind Green Day’s comeback with American Idiot was really great. It was another level of music and its development…it was new згтлюююфтв it was really great! So I’m absolutely agree with all who voted for them!

Jessicaxxx | 5/21/2007, 1:12 pm EST

I absolutly love green day!
they deserve to be number one because they’ll always be number on my list!
they rock!
they are my addiction and i don’t know if I’d get through the day without listening to them!
i love them!

greendayrockgods | 5/21/2007, 3:21 pm EST

God people! Greed Day are what they are! There’s no use labling them, because they don’t label themselves. They’re above that. They just play the music that they want to play, and it’s kickass. Punk, rock, alternative, whatever, it doesn’t matter. Their music is AMAZING AND KICKASS AND IT ROCKS AND THEY OWN!!!…so let’s just leave it at that.

Anyway, CONGRATS to Green Day on another amazing win!!!! They totally deserve it, we all know it.

mango_tango | 5/21/2007, 6:10 pm EST

for those who say the love Green Day, you all rock hardcore.=) and even though i disagree with those who dont, i respect you. but when you start having a dumb debate about if theyre punk or not, stop labeling! and props to the people who stick up for what they believe in, punk, emo, or whatever.

okay, im done now.

mango_tango | 5/21/2007, 6:12 pm EST

oh, and i cant wait until they come out with thier next album. its gunna rock. and im gunna love it.

Romeo | 5/21/2007, 8:01 pm EST

Deep Purple’s Purpendicular first album the much needed departure of Ritchie Blackmore, with this album and Steve Morse more than ablely taking up the slack that Ritchie had since House of Blue Light. Deep Purple sounds like that had a new lease on life in otherwords another grea comeback which still continues today with Rapture of The Deep.

me myself and i!!! | 5/21/2007, 8:18 pm EST

congrats on winning green day(my fave band)!!! cant wait till their next album thats supposed 2 be released in 2008!my 2nd fave band is my chemical romance and other than that i dont have any other favorate bands cuz im picky!!! but i do like other bands. just not as much as green day and mcr! congrats again billie tre’ and mike!lalala…i guess im done now!

punk rocker sasquatch | 5/21/2007, 11:33 pm EST

Hell ya, Green Day deserves it. They do have the best comeback album seeing how they had five (or six)super hits on American Idiot.

simon | 5/22/2007, 6:53 am EST

I love Green Day
but what are they doing in this list? Come back album???
Have they ever been away??

Green Day rocks, there’s no doubt about that!! I’ve got all there CD’s at home. But my question is: why are they in a come back list?
I know it sometimes takes a while before they release something new, but hey, it’s always great you know.
see ya

Green Day were the best in the industry, are the best and always will be!!! I can’t believe some of the comments people have put up. Their work is inspiring, daring, witty and just downright kickass!!! And ofcors their punk. How much more punk can you get!?! They deserve to be No.1!!!!

charliemapleton | 5/23/2007, 2:19 pm EST

Wow, look at all the fanfare. I guess this is what happens when you audaciously yet sensationally break the rules of what you call mainstream music and become extensively popular than mainstream music itself-that’s what Green Day epitomizes.

Anyway, referring to Mike’s comment, yes I know “Bad” wasn’t really a comeback album, it showed how much more of a durably gifted, multitalented figure MJ was in both r&b and pop, needless to say better than his other records (and the BEST record of all time). As far as Stevie goes, “Songs In The…” shows how his personal, political, and spiritual frame of mind had come in full circle even more than his first few recordings. Regardless if it came out a couple or so years after “Fulfillingness…”, it suprisingly was groundbreaking than the rest. So that sir, is a comeback!

sasquatch-nimrod | 5/23/2007, 4:45 pm EST

btw, simon (or anyone else who’s interested)-
you can see what GD look like on the greendayauthority site. just scroll down and it shoud say sommin about the whole simpsons thingy. you can click on the pic to enlarge it. although you cant really see tre…

Tyler | 5/24/2007, 2:12 am EST

im a differnet “Tyler”…the lower case tyler was talking crap on the emo people. i dont dig that music but i didnt talk crap on it.

I did write the other thing though. MCR is pretty good. i respect their music. The black parade was a great album. Writing a concept album is very hard. i know from first-hand experience.

If you think about it, Green day never went away.

Dookie had it’s hits:Longview, Basket Case, She, Welcome to Paradise, and Wehen I Come Around.

And Insomniac had the big hit Brain Stew/Jaded, and also Walking Contradiction and Stuck With Me.

Then Nimrod had great songs like Hitchin’ a Ride, Good Riddance, and Nice Guys Finish Last.

Warning had great songs like M

simon | 5/24/2007, 5:42 am EST

hi
who saw green day at american idol last nigth?
billy joe didn’t play it with much enthousiasm but tré did!!

but there’s one thing I hated about the show…
why do they have to change the song???
it’s a political song…and it’s very normal that, when you talk about modern politics, certainly in the USA ( no offence) , that you use the word “facking”….
every single time they play it on the radio or tv, that word is left out…and to me it changes the whole song!!!

I’m live in Belgium…we don’t do shit like that
we leave the songs as they are, as the songwriter wanted them to be…I can’t emagine that Lenon would have liked this

I know that this aint green days fault!
there’s no one who uses such language more than green day … but why do those producers and other dudes have to cut it out….
it realy takes away the spirit of the song…

but hey, that’s my opinion, I’d love to hear yours…

simon, from Belgium
( for those who do know where that is, shame on you
Brussels ( you do know that don’t you?) is our capital
we’re famous for our chips and beer

see ya

sasquatch-nimrod | 5/24/2007, 3:59 pm EST

hey peeps.
i had a media exam today and i got told i was a poser for liking Green Day and putting them on my magazine cover from some FREAK who was into stuff like Missy elliot(sp)and 50 Cent. i mean, wtf????

i don’t like green day cos im a poser and i “love the mainstream”. i would love em even if they were an underground band and hated by the world for no resonable explanation…thier music would be the same!!!

>=(
im so mad today. she offically p*ssed me off. cow. grrr….
gotta listen to green day- or someone who will cheer me up.

who else hates being called a poser for liking what they like and GENUINELY (sp?) liking them?

a poser would be off green day by now, cos “they dont make much music anymore”. a true fan would respect them for who they are and love them through thier hard and good times. and they would be eagerly waiting for the next album.

pieces of living crap (the girl, not Green day lol).
god, i hate it. =( someone cheer me uuuuupppppp!!!!! x x x x x x x

2008 is so far away. i wonder what songs GD will think of next! why must the world be so cruel? and on american idol- they rocked. i was so glad to see them again.

did anyone see Live Freaky Die Freaky?

mango_tango | 5/25/2007, 9:04 pm EST

simon-
billie had no enthusiasium. (or however u spell it). wait, ur the one who said that right? well, whoever did, i totally agree. and the song was too slow for them. but whatever, they rule.

rock on, Belgium chocolates!

Green Day rocked on American Idol, they will pretty much rock forever because their music rocks!

Marcela GD girl | 5/29/2007, 4:59 pm EST

Hey!Where is my last comment??Now I’m confused…anyway,I’m gonna say what was written in it… too bad they had to change the song…but everybody knows what that word really means…You’re welcome sasquatch-nimrod!I like replyin : )And yes,I know Billie was in New Orleans…While some bands just pretend to care about charity things he shows that he really cares…I also luv him(and all of them!) : )

sasquatch-nimrod | 5/31/2007, 9:27 am EST

yeah, marcelaGD girl, i know!!
it’s sooo cool that he cares for others, i mean GD and my chemical romance are the only two bands i know that GENUINELY care for others and try to help. and yeah, i lov them all!
who else here hates the fact that mike dirnt, the greatest bassist ever, does not get much attention??

aaargh! i hate it soo much! ppl are like ‘omg, i love green day but not mike, he’s stupid and boring’

in a way, he is a lot like me in the fact that i get that from a lot of ppl who think they know me from first glance to be boring and stupid. but if you REALLY, REALLY give me a try and get to kno me, then i can be crazy and wierd and cool and funni (cool? psssh!)

plus he has a major part in green day, so tru fans arent true fans if they dont like him for who he is and stuff.

who agrees that this is out of order? im a bassist (a v crap one, but hey….) and i look to him to learn how to play. i know how to play many GD songs because he inspired me to.

i love green day (as in billie mike and tre)

reply peeps- i wanna know if im just being sensitive and stupid or not. i just dont think it’s v fair. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He he,nice funeral song sasquatch-nimrod : )The simpsons movie comes out in July,I don’t know exactly the day…It’d be fun to watch with you, lol, but I think we live very far from each other…Well,I’m 13 years old…how old r u?I don’t have much to say either, lol…well,I think I’ll send a question to everyone too(if anyone besides me and sasquatch-nimrod still posts here, lol)what’s your favorite movie with a green day song in the soundtrack? For me is Angus(J.A.R. in the soundtrack)but all of them are great, just because of green day, lol…good luck on your exams(and on watching Working class hero)sasquatch-nimrod! : )

sasquatch-nimrod | 6/8/2007, 4:47 pm EST

Marcela GD girl | 6/10/2007, 1:00 pm EST

Hello!Thanks,sasquatch-nimrod! Marcela is my real name : )Yeah,we’re not exactly the same age, lol, but that’s not important…I’ll be 14 in November…Btw,I live in Brazil.Wich country do you live in,sasquatch-nimrod?Too bad you haven’t seen any movie with a green day song in it…Angus is a great movie, not very known, but is great! And you can hear J.A.R. playing in the background…I already watched Cars and I couldn’t hear westbound sign…I think I’ll watched again, lol…And poor Billie!I didn’t know that…I hope he’s alright, now I’m worried too! : ( Well, that’s all 4 now!

Sindel | 6/25/2007, 2:32 pm EST

for chris 5/17: You made me laugh, you know? really, how can you just imagine to compare ******ing Led Zeppelin (which are NOT *****ing in any case, have you ever listened to a robert plant’s guitar solo?? I don’t think so)with Green Day? yes, they’ve been around 18 years…wow, 18 years of wasted sound…I can say it. when i was younger i was a huge fan of GD. i had (and i have NOW also) ALL of their albums. i learnt by heart ALL of their songs. well, now i understand how stupid i’ve been. now i listen to good music, and i don’t go around insulting Led zeppelin or deep purple. i’m not nostalgic, but i recognize from where modern music come from. the good modern music. and let me say another thing: i’m a guitarist. GD reefs (and solos) are ALWAYS the same. just turn some notes and add some pauses.

oh, and i’m not “old” and i don’t miss the passed times…i’m 20…

I agree with RHCP’s Californication

One Hot Minute wasn’t a really good album, even if i like Dave Navarro, i think he hasn’t been the ideal guitarist for the RHCP sound… another album i liked was the Iron Maiden’s last one.

GD schifo assoluto!
Trad.: GD absolutely sucks!

Marcela GD girl | 6/26/2007, 11:19 am EST

Green day is the best band ever, not only for me but for a lot of people that posted here. That’s what I think. If some people, like Sindel, don’t think like that,I don’t care, and I think that nobody who likes GD should care. They’re a true rock band with beliefs and great music!Led zeppelin is a good band too,but nothing compares to GD!Their sound is not very complicated but hey, punk is not complicated!Well, that’s my opinion and for me is the one that matters!
GD absolutely rocks!

sasquatch-nimrod | 7/1/2007, 6:11 pm EST

heya!
sorry i havent been on for a while, but marcelaGDgirl, yeah, GD do rock….you’d think that a 20 year old would have ENOUGH sense not to come onto a site of green day fans and insult what they like you know?

i mean, Sindel, if you dont like them, dont insult them. they have done a lot of good in this life. listen to working class hero if you dont believe me. they are lovely ppl and keep your thoughts to yourself, ok?

grrrrrr. ppl should get. a. life.

And as I said in my last comment,we shouldn’t care about what people like Sindel says…they have their opinion and we have ours, and we should respect their opinion, but we are the real fans,we understand what GD it’s all about, and their an awesome rock band!: )

sasquatch-nimrod | 7/5/2007, 5:16 pm EST

and yeah, ur right about the whole “respecting others opinions” thing, its just tht i think ppl shouldnt show what they really think about GD to a bunch of really GD-devoted fans, y know?

like, thats like me suddenly coming up to u and dissin ur best friend in front of ur face. i wouldnt do it, if u c what i mean. cos partly its ur best friend and u wud be like ‘wtf??’ and it would also hurt YOUR feelings.

and i wouldnt say bad stuff about green day just to upset others feelings, cos thats what it sounded like sindel was doin. cos green day have become more than just music, they truly help ppl. so it means a lot to me when others still hate them for it. its as if they just hate them for the sake of hating someone and i truly LOATHE that.

idk, again maybe im too sensitive.

hehe- whatever. oh yh and dw- ill bring GD over to brazil marcela! lol….love you =) b happy ppl!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxxxx

I understand what u mean,sasquatch-nimrod,and again,I don’t think you’re being too sensitive…when people say things like that about GD,it also makes me mad,but we have to understand that there’ll be always someone to say things like that, but we can’t waste our times concerning about them! All we can do it’s to respect them(only if they respect us,of course)and remember that WE R THE REAL FANS and we know GD better than anyone,so nobody better than us to talk about them,so our opinion is the one that matters. If someone doesn’t like them I understand, but don’t try to convince us to don’t like them too!Well, that’s what I think…

Please,sasquatch-n imrod, bring them here, lol!!I never went to their concert,I was too young when they came here for the last time!Grr!lol…
love you 2,I gotta go now!: )

hey sasquatch-nimrod! sorry if my last comment has offended you,it wasn’t my intention to upset anyone! i just got fed up with the one who said *****ing led zeppelin…really, i didn’t want to insult anyone of GD fans, i exposed my opinion about GD’s music quality compared to other bands’ music…but it’s just my opinion, and i apoligize if my comment was really “heavy” and mean…but i was really angry in that moment! the last thing i want is to argue about music..sorry again

BabBA | 10/5/2007, 10:15 am EST

One Hot Minute did sell lots but that was because they were coming off of Blood Sugar so it was going to be platinum no matter what. Californication sold way more than OHM and just a way better album in general. John almost died for christs sake, he sold all of guitars to attend to his addiction.

Reddyness | 10/5/2007, 10:18 am EST

I think we all agree that this list sucks and Rolling Stone has sucked for the past 20 years

ur mum | 11/27/2007, 8:25 pm EST

dis song is bad and u should all play runescape

Lowe Marklund | 6/5/2008, 11:27 am EST

I Miss Californication on this list

Magenta Fire | 6/24/2008, 11:54 am EST

Stop bagging on Green Day!!!
American Idiot was totally the best comeback album ever. I mean, before it came out, the band was in a huge record slump, and AI brought them back to the charts! It so deserves to be number one because without AI Green Day would be history.

Anon | 7/4/2008, 12:34 pm EST

Back in Black…

?

James | 7/28/2008, 5:08 pm EST

My Top Ten:

1.) Some Girls – The Rolling Stones
2.) Fleetwood Mac – Fleetwood Mac
(They Were Big As A Blues Band)
3.) Thriller – Michael Jackson
4.) Beggars Banquet – The Rolling Stones
5.) Dark Side Of The Moon -Pink Floyd
(They Were Huge In England During 66-68)
6.) Band On The Run – Wings
7.) Walls And Bridges – John Lennon
8.) Going For The One – Yes
9.) Blood On The Tracks- Bob Dylan
10.) Division Bell – Pink Floyd

In Order To Be A Comeback Album They Had To Have An Initial Strong Point To Begin With
So Green Day Really Doesn’t Qualify With American Idiot, Unless You Are One And Have No Idea What I Mean

Sam | 10/28/2008, 5:13 pm EST

James, just because someone has different tastes in music than you doesn’t mean you should attack their dignity. After all, different types of music convey different thoughts, and people want to listen to music with ideals that are like their own. And you really shouldn’t be making fun of “American Idiots” considering you’re capitalizing every single word.

;kasljfl;sa | 10/28/2008, 10:36 pm EST

Stillmatic? Chronic 2001? Rolling Stone needs to come out of the 60s.

Charlie Brown | 5/17/2009, 9:10 pm EST

More than half of these suggestions are pure silliness. A ‘comeback’ denotes that some band has been away for some time, after their initial run of success which ended with the release of one or two stinky duds. The original, or close-to original line-up of the band reunites and then releases another ‘classic’ album. That’s a true ‘comeback’. And, no other band embodies this definition than Deep Purple with their 1985 triumph, ‘Perfect Strangers’.

Tibi | 9/28/2009, 9:31 am EST

American Idiot is a masterpiece
Shut the fuck up and deal with it!
