Deryck Whibley Strikes Back

5/7/07, 5:02 pm EST

Last week we wrote about took issue with our item in the form of a 600-word tirade. Here’s a taste of Whibley’s post:

“i have never wavered from my stance. the song then goes on to explain how i feel about the current administration. and now to clarify what the end means (just so there’s no confusion). in my opinion, the president has done so badly that he has killed his legacy. he has ruined whatever name he had and will be remembered as one of the worst presidents in history. now having said that, i may be canadian and some might say i shouldn’t be allowed to comment on the american president or american politics. but to the people who say that, i would ask them do you have to be german (or austrian for that matter) to criticize hitler? do you have to be iraqi to criticize saddam?”

Whibley invited us to interview him ourselves. To show there’s no hard feelings, we’re reaching out to him to schedule a proper interview and let him tell it like it is. Stay tuned for more Whibley wisdom as it unfolds.

I don’t feel comfortable reading somethingthat has the phrases “Sum 41″ & “punk rock” in the same article.

I agree, an in that vein, you shouldn’t have to be white to criticize whites or black to criticized blacks..yet we deal with that double-standard on a daily basis. Either we have freedom of speech or we don’t….it cuts in every direction, no matter how repugnant some of the language may be!
