Clip of the Day: R.E.M. on Letterman

They may now be eccentric Rock Hall of Famers, but back in 1983, for their first national TV appearance on Letterman doing “So. Central Rain,” they were just Georgia college kids with big dreams, nervous jitters, and (like Dave) lots and lots of hair.

I wasn’t born yet when this came out. Absolutely fantastic.

So Letterman used to interview the band before they played. This isn’t so now but still, when it comes to up and coming musicians he is the one to showcase them.
