Well, she looked hot. For a mom.
That, in addition to the confirmation that a) she’s alive and b) she can still dance was about all the screaming fans of Britney Spears could glean from her secret “comeback show” at San Diego’s House of Blues last night.
Billed as “The M+M’s,” Spears made her throng wait two-and-a-half hours in the club before emerging to “play” four-and-a-half songs in 14 minutes, rocking a brown wig, white boots, micro-mini and hot-pink bra (her skivvies were present — and visible.) Apparently, years of practice have not improved her lip-syncing abilities, which haven’t risen above the “stroke victim on Novocain” level. Then she uttered four little words — “Thanks everyone for coming” — and bolted out the back door, leaving the security guards to answer questions such as “What the fuck?!” from patrons who paid between $35 (face value, minus service charges) and $250 (on Craigslist) for the occasion. Even for a pop star, this brilliant moment of entrepreneurialism can’t be overstated. While three-quarters of the fans complained to news cameras about being ripped off, one explained, “It was totally worth being here. I mean, I can say I was here.”
Alas . . . she was right.
