As we know, Snoop has been victimized by border patrol dudes quite a bit of late. Not only was he barred from entering the UK, where he was set to tour with Diddy, but then he was kept out of Australia (and away from the Australian MTV music awards) on grounds that he failed to pass the country’s strict character test. (He’s also apparently offended the Canadians by smoking pot onstage at a recent show and now officials in Lethbridge, Canada are considering cracking down on pot-smoking rules for performers). In response to the Australians’ prejudice against the rapper, attorneys have released a statement defending Snoop’s moral core and arguing that the rapper is only out to spread a “message of peace.” Snoop’s lawyer Donald Etra said:
We are very disappointed and hope that the minister will reconsider his decision. Snoop just completed a very successful European tour where he was able to spread his message of peace to his fans and hopes to continue it around the world. Snoop has no gang ties and this is evident through his ongoing efforts to get kids off the streets and out of gangs via self funded programs such as his youth football league. Snoop loves Australia and Australia loves Snoop. He truly hopes to have the opportunity to perform for his fans.
We’re particularly amused by this suggestion that Snoop doesn’t have any gang ties and is busy spreading a peaceful message to the world. Here’s a few lyrics/songtitles we must have been misinterpreting all this time:
- “Crip Hop,” by Snoop, off Tha Eastsidaz album Duces N Trays
- “Gangbangin’ 101″ – in which the Snoop addresses (people we assumed to be his fellow crips) via the chorus Chorus “sup crip”
- 50 Cent’s “P.I.M.P. (Snoop Dogg Remix)” in which he rhymes “I’m a motherfuckin’ C-R-I-P” with P-I-M-P and raps “I’m down with that nigga 50 like I’m down with blue.”
