Eddie Van Halen Out of Rehab, Morrissey Ready to Pick Hall of Fame Fight and More

4/23/07, 2:44 pm EST

Eddie Van Halen before and after

  • Remember what Eddie Van Halen looked like before he headed off to rehab? This is him now. What a difference a month-plus and several hundred dollars of highlights can make. Rock on Eddie.
  • LIFEbeat, a U.S. charity dedicated to educating young people about HIV/AIDS prevention, is organizing a series of after-party shows and other performances by artists, the proceeds from which (tickets are $10) will go to fund the charity’s work. The artists involved include the Fratellis, the Hold Steady, Third Eye Blind, Duncan Sheik and Lesley Gore.
  • Damon Albarn said there will be no more Gorillaz records. “We’re trying to make a film next, starting in September hopefully. It will be a film score,” the rocker said of the band’s next project. “There won’t be another pop record.”
  • Morrissey is already planning to snub his potential nomination to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame next year. The notoriously particular rock and pop cultural visionary is - along with the rest of the Smiths - reportedly on the short list of possible inductees, but the Mozzer has said he won’t attend the ceremony because of his ongoing issues with drummer Mike Joyce. “Morrissey has never forgiven Joyce and if organizers think he’s going to bury the hatchet by joining him to accept this award, they’ve got another thing coming. The only way he could be persuaded to turn up would be if Joyce decides not to attend,” a source explained.
  • Check out new Bob Dylan North American tour dates. The whole list is after the jump.
  • Interpol may or may not be releasing their forthcoming new album on July 10th. (Or is it October 7th?) [via Pitchfork]

It’s good to hear of someone embracing sob. My first nite in AA I heard a woman sayin she hit a flat spot in sob at 12 years and sure enuff it happened to me. This shit gets old like anything else. A pink cloud whatever we were wrecked in the same boat now we’re in the same life preserver I owe AA my life and my freedom coz that’s what it gave to me Be happy

SWB | 7/13/2007, 11:38 am EST

No way u can stop us now as fine as u are. Come on u shakey bastard got the dt’s or what The world awaits, like a limo, van halo

Steven Behrens | 7/9/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Fuckers get a life. Who cares if they rock the nation or not. Dude quit damaging AA’s rep. So u got drunk coz of their sob stories- sounds like ‘nother sob story, you Lindsey Lohan. Go to meetings and spread the message-the Steps. Wall of denial is a bitch. Only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking- bullshit, too many high-bottom drunks. I didn’t spill a drink vacuuming or burn a pie and decide I need to join AA. Talk, clear the wreckage of your past if you have any you fuckin has-been. If you can still rock God bless you

S Behrens | 7/9/2007, 3:00 pm EST

Dude if you can go out and rock the nation right now may God Bless you. Fuckers get a life–who cares if they rock or not. Dude don’t worry about work get sober talk about it wall of denial. I didn’t burn Thanksgiving turkey or bump a cocktail off the coffee table vacuuming, decide to join AA at 50 I battled alcoholism I knew a priest who started drinking at 50 and joined AA–get a life pervert Too many hi-bottom drunks so if you got drunk coz of sob stories now you’re spreadin’ the disease Go ammend your past spread the message The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking–Bullshit so shut the fuck up and quit damaging AA’s reputation you Lindsey Lohan

S Behrens | 7/5/2007, 3:05 pm EST

Think through the drunk or high. “What is going to happen?” Physical hangover or mental descent(coke), money wasted (150.00 for a 8 hour high- coke) This one may be tough for a rich person like yourself. Inevitable arrests- DWI, felony pocession, vehic. manslaughter. supporting politician- murdering cartels–not sure this is bad. A spiritual change is vital to stop.

S Behrens | 7/2/2007, 4:04 pm EST

You stopped drinking. Now drugs are still out there. I know 13 years without a drink then came some coke lines. How selfish! Contrary to what my first sponsor said it is one day at a time with drugs, for me anyway. AA’s miracle has kept me sober.

JAMES DEAN w/quite a foxCT-FL. | 4/26/2007, 10:12 am EST

I hope everything is still on.I don’t think Roth was about to take an ill-rehearsed band on the road. I also hope that Roth took little Wolfgang under his wing.I wonder what Valerie thinks about that? Diamond Dave with his fingernails into her son.Dave’s gonna make Wolf a rock star just yet. It’s in his blood. READY TO GO!!!

smax | 4/25/2007, 7:58 pm EST

I theorize that the rehab visit was partly precipitated by The Police reunion overshadowing the VH reunion. I think they may want to wait until next summer anyway.
Good Luck, Ed. FOCUS!

Marty P. | 4/25/2007, 4:19 pm EST

Too little, too late Edward, Spinal Tap has already reformed. What cartoon band are you going to copy now?

sherry | 4/25/2007, 3:00 pm EST

What a change!!! I just hope Ed can stay sober and continue working on the things that are important to him. Walter Middy’s 1978, in Pomona, California you were at your best and now you have a chance to get it back!!

Kim | 4/24/2007, 7:59 pm EST

Way to go Ed! Looking really good and healthy! You look about 15 years younger. EVH is one HOT dude!!!!

Joe Valdez | 4/24/2007, 5:11 pm EST

Eddie, when you and the boys release your tour dates, plan on American Airlines in Dallas,Tx or Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Tx. This will be the BIGGEST reunion ever…. Rock on guys…

black_bane | 4/24/2007, 12:28 pm EST

VH will be on tour with Roth this year, then next year it will be with Sammy again, and the following year I will be on with them…but there will not be a new CD…

Mean streets | 4/24/2007, 5:10 am EST

Eddie looks great! He now needs to get back on the road with Roth & Mikey, Eddie is the KING! He has influenced many great guitarists, my current favourite is Dave Sharman, check him out! www.davesharman.com

Dewey Finn | 4/24/2007, 4:48 am EST

EDDIE!!! EDDIE!!! EDDIE!!! EDDIE!!!

piecrowdust | 4/24/2007, 3:36 am EST

Go Eddie Go!

And Morrissey…I like whiney Morrissey. If he lost his gloom then he wouldn’t be nearly as interesting.
He can’t be bought…love it!

bill | 4/23/2007, 10:43 pm EST

eddie looks great.he looks alot younger.reminds me of the balancetour but no goat tee.lets pray that he can keep it together and the reunion with roth will happen.amazing what 30 days with no booze can do for a person.see ya on tour.

Miss B. | 4/23/2007, 10:15 pm EST

nooo Bob come to Oregon! Maybe later in the year?

lik roper | 4/23/2007, 9:42 pm EST

other than hendrix; eddie’s the greatest guitar player ever…

Str8 Ej | 4/23/2007, 6:18 pm EST

You should have just put the Dylan story last. That way, there would be no need for “the jump” but you could instead just say, “See dates below.” That said, I do recognize how using www.buzzwords a la “jump” help keep an otherwise aging franchise somewhat cutting egde.

Toni Morrison | 4/23/2007, 5:51 pm EST

Big Deal - now Eddie’s a SOBER asshole.

your mom | 4/23/2007, 5:32 pm EST

actually, that is regular band drama, isnt it? lol… ok, never mind.

though it was millions of pounds (do the conversion math). that’s what morrissey has claimed in interviews anyway

your mom | 4/23/2007, 5:29 pm EST

re: morrissey “whining”… Mike joyce sued for and won a substantial cut of Smiths royalties, eventhough he had NO hand in any songwriting. he also took morrissey to trial and cost him a shite load of money in legal fees. So basically, its well beyond the normal band drama… its super personal and bitter

Defender of the Faith | 4/23/2007, 5:09 pm EST

So the reunion tour is back on? Maybe Velvet Revolver can open!

Ice Cream Man | 4/23/2007, 5:06 pm EST

i give ed three months and he’ll be back on the sauce.

Odys Coltrane | 4/23/2007, 4:44 pm EST

Eddie seems to have finally dumped Shane MacGowan’s dentist.

New Music = Lame | 4/23/2007, 4:14 pm EST

Boy I’m glad Eddie realized how awful he looked. He looks all the way awake for a change. And I agree with the other posters: thank goodness he seems to have done something about his teeth.

bared | 4/23/2007, 4:07 pm EST

no more gorillaz records??!!??!!

thank god

Oooh | 4/23/2007, 3:49 pm EST

Looks like Eddie got some much needed orthadontia as well.

Rosebud | 4/23/2007, 3:34 pm EST

re: Eddie: to say nothing of the dental work! Way to go, Ed!

Nikkidoo | 4/23/2007, 3:30 pm EST

In real life Morrissey seems to be great at what he does in his music: whining. Waa Waa Waa.

ken vail jr | 4/23/2007, 3:29 pm EST

i hope eddie is doing better-I’d love to see him and the boys back in action and w/ a new lp too.

abandonedstation | 4/23/2007, 3:23 pm EST

Wow, Eddie looks ten years… no, make that eight… maybe five, okay he looks about the same but now with short hair and finally sober. Which means he looks a bit like Kurt Russell.

no more Gorillaz? What other invisible fake bands can Damon Albarn work with? The Chipmunks? California Raisins?

Christ Morrissey, he’s just the drummer. Make sure Johnny Marr stands between you and him and the problem is solved.

I wonder what Bob Dylan does on his off days. Shuffle board? Read books? Meth?

I can READ is right: C’mon guys!

twebbs1012 | 4/23/2007, 3:16 pm EST

Pre-hab Eddie looks like Gollum.

I can READ | 4/23/2007, 3:04 pm EST

The Interpol site says 7.10.07

That clearly stands for July 10.

It makes sense because it’s a Tuesday. The 7th is a Saturday.

C’mon, guys.
