* Welcome to the third installment of the Everyman Review, a semi-regular column in which you, our readers, get to share your thoughts — in your voice — about everything from a TV On the Radio show to the 10th anniversary of the death of Notorious B.I.G. Here, we dispatch sixth grader — and devoted Avril Lavigne fan — Arielle to give us the word from the frontlines as she attends an in-store guest appearance from Avril at the Virgin Mega Store in NYC’s Time Square.
All my life I’ve been a huge Avril Lavigne fan. I’ve been to a bunch of her concerts, and have her posters hanging all over my room. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out she was doing an in-store signing at Virgin Records Mega Store in Times Square on Tuesday night. Duh, of course I was going.
So off to Times Square I went to hear Avril Lavigne perform a few new songs live from her new CD, The Best Damn Thing. When I arrived, thousands of fans of all ages were lined up outside waiting to see her. Then we were brought downstairs where a small stage with a huge screen was set up as we waited for her to make her entrance. The crowd was getting all psyched up, singing along to the songs playing over the speakers. Finally, she arrived. Everyone went crazy! Paparazzi’s were lined up taking her pictures with flashes going off everywhere.
Avril looked so cool with her long blonde hair and hot pink streaks. She was wearing a grey and black stripped zippered sweat shirt with a gray tank top with hearts sticking out of the bottom, tight black pants with zippers and high black platform Mary Jane shoes.
When she started singing, “Girlfriend”, the whole store went wild — people were even climbing under tables from upstairs to get a peek. She followed with, “Everything Back But You”, which was a blast, and ended with, “Sk8er Boi” — an Avril classic for those of you who don’t know. I am so excited that “The Best Damn Thing” is finally out in the stores. It’s, uh, the best damn thing . . . ever!
