Cam’ron Puts Forth Alarmingly Anarchist “Code of Ethics”

4/19/07, 3:49 pm EST

Cam'ron's take on snitching is crazy, revealed on 60 MinutesIn an interview supposedly set to air on 60 Minutes this Sunday, rapper Cam’ron told Anderson Cooper that — due to a fundamental mistrust of cops and desire to preserve his street cred — under no circumstances would he ever help the police, even if a mass murderer was his neighbor. “If I knew the serial killer was living next door to me … I wouldn’t call and tell anybody on him — but I’d probably move,” the rapper said. “I’m not going to call and be like, ‘the serial killer’s in 4E.’ ” Cam’ron’s rationale is that helping the police in any way would violate his “code of ethics”…and, he acknowledges freely, snitching might mean he sells fewer records.

We think this theory is batshit insane and inspires all sorts of deep philosophical questions about the sustainability of anarchy and various other socio-political theories/systems. However, we have to say that the dude seems to practice what he preaches. He was shot in both arms while driving his bright blue Lamborghini in the fall of 2005, but still refused to cooperate with the police when they attempted to investigate the crime. “It would definitely hurt my business,” the rapper said when asked why he kept quiet even as a victim. “The way I was raised, I just don’t do that.”

Elijah | 4/19/2007, 4:46 pm EST

Even if I knew that a terrible rapper lived next door to me, I still would not buy his cd.

cathy porter | 4/19/2007, 4:48 pm EST

he is so cool! I wish I has street cred like that.

El Luchador | 4/19/2007, 4:56 pm EST

If Don Imus gave that interview, he would lose his job again.

So | 4/19/2007, 4:57 pm EST

It would hurt his “business” of being a useless piece of sh-t? Continue to get high and shoot each other for all I care.

Papi from the 'Nati | 4/19/2007, 4:57 pm EST

Cops always turn the tables on shooting victims, especially black folks. I’m white and know this. This life is all about survival, and he knows how, by keeping quiet.
Stay true Killa Cam!!

Nikkidoo | 4/19/2007, 5:00 pm EST

I would call the police if Cam’ron was my neighbor.

what a fine young man its nice to know this is the behavior young people emulate these days

MJ | 4/19/2007, 5:12 pm EST

LOL! I guess when you’re more than likely engaged in illegal activity yourself (drugs, guns??), you wouldn’t be inclined to invite the police around :-)

Klaatu | 4/19/2007, 5:13 pm EST

There isn’t any need for me to comment. This takes the phrase, “speaks for itself” to a wholly new level.

pen15club! | 4/19/2007, 5:16 pm EST

i want dat cam”ron long john cock!!!!!

Jeffrey Dahmer | 4/19/2007, 5:25 pm EST

Cam’ron – Yo, dog it’s me – Whew – Thanks for not tattling on me. (You know that was me in the apt next door to Ray Ray!) Jeez, if you had, I would have to cut your dick off and stuff it in the kettle with the others! It’s good to know we have intelligent, thoughtful peeps out there like me and you – you know good, thoughtful individuals that douche society of its ills!
Love, Jeffrey :-)

hypothetically speaking | 4/19/2007, 5:34 pm EST

so if i broke into his house at night, tied him up, told him i was about to carve some pretty pictures in his skin then placed a phone in front of him would he not call the popos?

bared | 4/19/2007, 5:45 pm EST

hopefully cam’ron’s neighbor will kill him

killa | 4/19/2007, 7:40 pm EST

none of you have even close to the background of cam to even come cole to understanding the mentality of the streets he was raised in, so get off your high horses and try to empathize with his mentality

James | 4/19/2007, 7:46 pm EST

What a punk. I don’t care where you are from in this country or any other; there is a fundametal code of moral ethics that is engrained in any society. People that violate that code (rapper, serial killer, police man) should not be admired and should be admonished. I don’t care if he is “from the streets”. That is a lame excuse. There are individuals that come from the same background that he does that are good, upstanding moral individuals. He needs to be held accountable like ALL PEOPLE! It’s a shame that the youth of this country look up to trash like him and his ilk.

Elijah | 4/19/2007, 9:39 pm EST

Hey “killa”, some people’s “backgrounds” would have them believe that it’s cool to be in the Klan. So maybe you should “get off your high horse and empathize” with their mentality also, right? Empathize with victims of terrorism, not with “artists” who make zero contribution to society.

Where are Sharpton & Jesse? | 4/19/2007, 9:42 pm EST

Yet another prime example of what is wrong with hip-hop and the message it sends to our youth. The people buying this god-awful music put out by “Killa Cam” are young, impressonable, and more or uneducated. This is the type of stuff that Sharpton, Jesse, and the hip hop community should actually address.

tomfoolery | 4/19/2007, 11:04 pm EST

His past with the police? Wow, I can’t imagine this guy ever doing anything that would cause him to bump heads with the law. But maybe I would hate cops too if I had to stuff a bag of weed/crack up my ass every time they pulled me over.

jaco | 4/19/2007, 11:12 pm EST

for love of money….

Greed trumps all. What a great sense of values.

T-Nasty | 4/19/2007, 11:45 pm EST

Wow, how is this not more offensive than what Imus said?

bigbabyjesus | 4/20/2007, 1:24 am EST

are you kidding???? how is this any where near what that bigot imus did. so what if he doesn’t call the police, are you ppl really that upset? he has no reason to trust the police: blacks have been brutalized and harrassed by the police for centuries. I am white and i realize this.

Ricky | 4/20/2007, 2:43 am EST

What the hell?

While I understand his distrust of the police, (take a look at the NYPD’s investigation into rap) the fact that he would not report a serial killer and potentially put others in danger just to keep a street cred to keep selling records is insane.

That’s not a “streets mentality,” that’s stupidity.

What also bugs me about this (and hip-hop in general) is how much rappers like Cam’Ron will brag and boast about how they don’t care about what anyone thinks, yet put so much into building a reputation for themselves, essentially caring about what others think. What a stupid contradiction.

ihatemaryland88 | 4/20/2007, 7:26 am EST

60 minutes is for old people.

Noel | 4/20/2007, 8:04 am EST

Whoa, Cam’ron still has a career?

Now that’s what’s shocking.

Helvis | 4/20/2007, 8:49 am EST

Does he steer the car with his feet now? That’s a lot harder in a Lamborgini that a PT Cruiser!

OneCellBoy | 4/20/2007, 9:17 am EST

Participation in the benefits of a society require that its members abide by the rules of that society. This pissant doesn’t want to play by the rules, so let’s take him 50 miles offshore and drop him off.

Tax-Paya Trev | 4/20/2007, 9:43 am EST

This guy is a perfect example of how the whole rap industry hates family values, and basically everything our country stands for. They will take a government check until it banrupts our government, turn free housing into drug housing. Glorify being an irresponsible father to as many illegitamate kids as possible. Time for our government to run some “black ops” against some of these rap “stars” and record execs who profit off the message to our young girls that it’s cool to be a “hoe” and to the young males to sell dope and pack guns.

camron ima kill you punk stay away from my girl

abandonedstation | 4/20/2007, 11:06 am EST

good thing being shot in both arms while driving a luxury car can be written down as an isolated incident…
something tells me next time he’s shot he won’t call the police, either. dead man can’t punch in numbers. it won’t do much good for business, either.

and good call for asking where jesse and sharpton are. this is much more troubling for the black community than ‘nappy headed ho’s’

Killa | 4/20/2007, 12:54 pm EST

60 Minutes is one of the best shows on television. Hopefully the new class of correspondents can maintain the level of integrity and excellence. Camron is da man!

TheGoose | 4/20/2007, 2:21 pm EST

Congratulations Cam’ron, your bullshit theory has allowed the murderers of thousands of black men and women to go free. For a vivid illustration of the disasterous consequences of “no snitchin”, watch HBO’s “The Wire, Season 4.”

smarkarrow | 4/20/2007, 2:22 pm EST

He would feel a lot different if his father was cut into little pieces and placed in baggies. People change a great deal when those close to them have suffered.

This is not a threat nor meant o be “anti-black”. Being shot and not providing Police with any info does not mean that the shooters were not dealt with. Rest assured that those who did the shooting were dealt with “internally”. So there was no need for police involvement.

Selling himself as someone with “street cred” is no different than an ad for the Gap. He is selling his product and he knows his audience.

Every day millions upon millions of blacks and white hold doors open for each other, say hello in elevators, allow someone to get in the lane in front of them on the highway, say thank you in line at the bank etc. etc. etc. I would venture to say that over 95% of the people in this country, both black and white, are really tired of the complaints. Yes, some cops are idiots. So are some managers of Wal-Mart, some people who teach at colleges, the person who rents you a steam cleaner at the supermarket and someone at almost every other job in the world. Some people are just plain angry. Their brains are broken.

This guy has a broken brain. A broken brain that knows how to make money.
If he cares about his community he should take the money he paid for that ungodly expensive automobile, buy several of the buildings in that decaying urban environment and give something to the community. Show the poor and forgotten that they can be something better.

He is a hypocrite. And we are just as bad, maybe even worse, for giving him the spotlight.

Chris Rock | 4/20/2007, 3:54 pm EST

Spoken like a true nigga.

Shakespeare | 4/20/2007, 4:59 pm EST

My problem with this is why would 60 minutes even put a raper that no one barely knows about on there program. & then let the man talk hate speech against police, it is silly. All criminals hate police, and camron is not in to anarchy he is a flat out hood criminal.

lik roper | 4/20/2007, 5:06 pm EST

with all this talk of middle-eastern terrorist cells about to do this or that; we have gangs terrorizing communities, and THIS MUST END – anyone who is violent and has no respect for life should be locked up…

the problem with the police is in how they treat people who try to help them out; they have to change their often abrasive attitudes towards good citizens before any real progress can be made…

Tedster | 4/21/2007, 2:40 am EST

Anarchist? It seems that Rolling Stones has a distorted view of what an anarchism is, which simply means somebody who doesn’t believe in a hierarchy. While it is true that many anarchist don’t trust the police, so do many non anarchist, Cam’ron doesn’t seem to suggest his politics is anarchist.

blkesq | 4/25/2007, 9:18 am EST

If you hv nvr been to harlem compton baltimore chicago or any other “hood” then it is easy to see how and why u would trust the police. The cops are beasts in these areas and have seen niggas doing more bad than good. They are wolfs whose job it is to catch wolfs. Beligerent rude and blinded by black skin. I know cams neighborhood and the cops shake you down whenever they think they have probable cause,ie you driving or walking or standing or breathing while being black. Its harlem and the cops are on hyper mode and they think everyone blk hispanic and male is who they r after. Let’s not forget that the blk gangsters are our guardian angles bc they kill othr blk gangsters thereby checking themselves. Whoever shot cam got dealt with so going to the cops was pointless, cops hate niggas so again seeking their hepl wouil be pointless

k-bones(a7xrox) | 5/1/2007, 3:40 am EST

i like you SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE
you rock,freedom of speech rocks!!
camron sucks (applase!)

blankinoutofmymind | 6/12/2007, 10:47 pm EST

I believe that Cam’ron is the most ignorant person that has ever walked the face off the Earth. His statement just proved the fact that African-Americans will never make it any where as long as they are not educated and have no positive influence in their lives. And to pen15lub!, GO JUMP OFF THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING AND GET RAN OVER BY A BUS!!!!!
