GodTube Rules!

4/16/07, 12:22 pm EST

Those of you who thought XTube was the greatest YouTube offshoot ever, prepare to discover you’re wrong. GodTube provides internet savvy Christians with the chance to “broadcast Him.” And even those of us who haven’t been to church … ever, can enjoy a holy video now and then. Here are five GodTube clips The Good Lord himself would want you to see.

1. In this clip, a pair of earnest gentlemen in ironed khakis enjoy the outdoors and explain why bananas prove the existence of God.

2. This clip, which did make the rounds on regular old YouTube at some point, is a hysterically ambitious and well-executed God-friendly cover of “Baby Got Back,” created by a bible study group. Sample lyric: “baby got it going on like the wife in proverb 31.”

3. God likes it when his disciples fling each other around in a human sling shot.

4. God also likes it when you test the compassion of your fellow man by locking yourself in a cage in a public place and waiting to see if anyone will let you out.

5. This clip is a montage of funny incidents filmed in church. A baby pees while being baptized, a kid kicks over the thing of holy water, a priest fishes for the communion wafer he dropped down a woman’s dress. Good times.

:)

banana == human invention | 4/16/2007, 12:49 pm EST

FYI: the banana of today is not what it looked like before man got his hand on it. It was a green podshaped looking thing. Selective breeding and time resulted in what we now think of as the banana.

yo | 4/16/2007, 1:34 pm EST

One of the earnest gentlemen on the right in the first vid is Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains. Him and the other guy have there own show now.

hmmmm | 4/16/2007, 2:31 pm EST

Your headline is pretty offensive to anyone who considers Jesus a religious figure…so how how changing that fist part where you take the name of the lord in vain…(one of the commandments)

50 Cent | 4/16/2007, 2:41 pm EST

White kids pay for my whores.

Brett | 4/16/2007, 2:47 pm EST

You can’t legitimately like God and Rock N Roll. Rock N Roll is about here and now and reality. God is the opposite, and a figment of imagination, used by powerful people to make less powerful people feel they’ll be glorified after their suffering. Rock N Roll is the rebellion of all that nonsense.

Pecker | 4/16/2007, 4:36 pm EST

Sounds like Brett is still mad at his mommy for dragging his bitch ass to church every Sunday. Awwwww isn’t that cute.

Klaatu | 4/16/2007, 5:03 pm EST

Brett,

The following people disagree with you:

U2
Kerry Livgren of Kansas
Switchfoot
Relient K
The Call
Elvis
Bob Dylan
Little Richard
Johnny Cash

oh yeah, and me.

And I can’t be sure, but I think God disagrees too. Rock has always had a cool tension between human passion (sexual, politcal or social) and spirituality. I like that. It makes for good art.

Winston | 4/16/2007, 7:07 pm EST

God rocks…oh wait no he doesnt.

****** | 4/16/2007, 7:44 pm EST

what ever happend to “boner” from ‘growing pains?
remember him.

john | 4/16/2007, 8:37 pm EST

whats wrong with what they are doing? You guys can preach on about how homosexuality is great and can mock God all day…but they can’t run their own website? I think it’s nice to have something like this on the internet….God knows we already have enough pornography and nonsense all over the place….

Coltrane | 4/16/2007, 11:03 pm EST

Vrooooooom!

john | 4/16/2007, 11:36 pm EST

you guys at rollingstone are so full of shit…anytime someone reponds with an intelligent post that questions your opinion you just delete it….”Free Speech” my ass…you guys are such hypocrites…

Humanist | 4/17/2007, 11:13 am EST

The ideology of monotheism will drive itself to ridiculous imaginations. We see this in “godtube.” Who says that religion can’t evolve? It has for thousands of years and this is no different. Albeit sad and pathetic that religion has stooped to resorting to advertise and come up with gimmicks to survive.

your mom | 4/17/2007, 11:38 am EST

a friend recently told me that, actually, humans are the only animal that eat the banana from the top and the manner that they are eaten by humans is unique to humans, which means that the first guy is full of crap.

And I’m as religious as they come!

Klaatu | 4/17/2007, 12:36 pm EST

Humanist

Why not “the ideology of theism?” Or do you actually prefer polytheism or pantheism? Anyway, I am not sure that any kind of theism constitutes an ideology by itself.

Also, assuming that you are in fact a humanist, you should understand that humanism is not antithetical to religion.

Religion doesn’t depend on gimmicks like Godtube to survive. It depends on community. Godtube is simply an outgrowth of that community.

#5 rocks–see church can be funny

Josh | 4/17/2007, 4:14 pm EST

God Tube…that is so lame. I’m a Christian and I don’t understand why we need God Tube? What’s wrong with YouTube? And even if someone sees it fit to make a video site for religious themed clips-why would you call it God Tube? Some people have no creativity. Nice way to dumb down Christianity.

Klaatu | 4/17/2007, 5:14 pm EST

Josh

Oh come on, man, it may be a silly name, but it isn’t doesn’t do as much to dumb down Christianity as, say, televangelists.

Christians are fun! | 5/3/2007, 4:21 am EST

We’re Christians – we’re not doomed. Those who post mean spirited comments hers are crossing the line. As Christians, we simply pray for forgiveness for those who mock us and we know the rest is up to God and to you.

Mike | 7/20/2007, 10:23 pm EST

If the word of God is the truth then those who appose it have a problem, but if it’s not then don’t worry about what Christians do, let them do their thing and mind your own business. If this site bothers you then there must be some truth to God since you have something bad to say about it. It seems that those who are worried about Christianity have something to fear but those that are not must be on the right track. I personally don’t care if you believe what I believe but I do care if you bash me for trying to live the life I believe I should live. I suppose I am saying that non believers (as they are called)may want to open their eyes to the reality of their selfish ways, and believers may want to take the time to just pray for the non believers faith and that the God of Heaven and Earth would reveal Himself to them. I feel that every person has to experience their own salvation in order to truly understand what, who, and where God is.
These words are spoken in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth the one whom was crucified that none would be enternally seperated from God and Rasied from the Dead that all who would believe may have enternal life with God.
May God bless all of you Christian or not. To the Christian Store up your treasures in Heaven and the non Christian, if you feel something HOT on your head read, Romans 12:20 and Proverbs 25:21-23.

Best Hilarious vids 3, 4 :D

You can find from Youtube also, sure i think so.

Of course GodTube is good site, because in there is listed only this kind of vids. In Youtube, you cannot find so fast what u want to see, like Christian videos. In GodTube are only this kind of Spiritual vids. In GodTube is only putted that kind of videos to Broadcasting for Him. That mean, Christians together. That mean like Church. All places where people are together in the name of Love , Jesus, There is Spirit of Him. There is blessing. If it’s done right for Him Name in Love. Jesus himself instructed like that. That is calling to do this. GodTube and all the message in music, text, television, everything what we do in the name of love. It is part of calling to be SPIRITUAL Christian :)

These vids,& music are awesome… I thought the slingshot was totally histerical…However there is on one con i noticed perhaps is underway of being updated…I couldn’t fullscreen by dbl. clicking over the videos or any other way that I could find. Perhaps the tab button for it is microscopic LoL Just kidding. Anyway if there was a way to be able to have this feature it would be more enjoyable for the viewers. Like for instance the image is so small that the baby peeing would have been funny if the scene could have been shown, but as it was it was ok. See what I mean. We that use higher resolutions of our monitor settings can use this feature…Please by anystance am I complaining…This is great and awesome site and have since really enjoyed it as a new user…but as being you want to match up with U-Tube and of course better than then please we can use Fullscreen capabilities … Thanks

Johnney come early | 10/4/2007, 11:06 pm EST

Kirk Cameron is cool,

Here is a young man not worried about hell-e-wood’s opnion and willing to call sin, sin. Willing to share the great love God had in sending His Son Jesus to pay the price for our wickness, if we receive Him.

Love ya Kirk and Ray, keep up the good work.

“And even those of us who haven’t been to church … ever, can enjoy a holy video now and then”

Umm…This statement alone insults me.

This youtube “off shoot” all so clearly demonstrates the Christian community’s drive to sequester themselves into their own little world. The same can be ascribed to “Christian” rock or metal as an alternative to the un-Christian metal.

I guess Christians really don’t want to be a part of real society. By this I mean that YouTube just isn’t up to snuff for the Christian mind. I would wager that the ball got rolling on this after the “Blasphemy Challenge” on YouTube. By cloistering themselves Christians do a disservice to the rest of us.

Tim | 11/13/2007, 6:45 pm EST

Such a silly, stupid idea, complete with typical christian marketing unoriginality. An absolutely terrible way to reach out to other people and a complete embarassment.

I’m also kinda tired of Rolling Stone’s sarcastic remarks towards christian marketing.
