The land that gave us the three leading causes of fistfights (hockey, quality beer, and Celine Dion music) is now objecting that this Toronto Blue Jays ad featuring Frank “The Big Hurt” Thomas is too violent for TV. Sure, it’s violence against children, but with a freakin’ pillow, for Gretzky’s sake…Apparently, by pure coincidence, September 2 at Toronto’s Rogers Centre ballpark is Frank Thomas Kids Pillow night, where the first 5,000 kids 14 and under will receive a free collectible Frank Thomas pillow. (Presumably, the 5,001st will be beaten senseless).

I’d like to know who said this instead of you grouping us “damn Canadians” into one large voice.
I for one find it funny. I’m a “damn Canadian” as big mouth Grant puts it.
Maybe you should do some surfing and see what us Canadians contribute to you loud mouth Americans.

what a dumb magazine has the rolling stone become, the last ones to be talking about banned videos and censorship are them and the country they belong to.

I think damn Canadians is a compliment.

I’m a Canadian and when I first saw the commercial I laughed my ass off. Some people take things way to seriously.

I’ll be interested to see if Don Cherry goes soft with Mr soft himself Brett Hull on the wkend… but he can say whatever he wants on our Canadian public television.

I dunno.
Those little kids deserved a smack down. At least in Canada they let black guys on television. Not so much in America.

Stations are just showing the ad even though it hasn’t been approved by the Television Bureau of Canada. Just because some regulatory body tells you to not do something doesn’t mean you have to listen. Unless of course you are in Iran or North Korea or the US.

I’m a Canadian and think that is a great commercial. Too bad our ridiculous censors won’t allow something as harmless as that on television. Pretty Sad Canada, pretty sad!!!
J-DOG | 4/12/2007, 4:10 am EST
I think Canada is taking this “COMMERCIAL” way too serious. It’s actually pretty funny, “WE” as Americans realize this is just as it says ” A COMMERCIAL”. There is nothing serious about this whatsoever.
Hobie Baker | 4/12/2007, 7:56 am EST
Marko1965: For the private stations, it does. CBC is still showing the ad because they’re a public broadcaster, and therefore have their own regulations. Rogers cable had to stop airing the ad because they’re a private broadcaster and therefore beholden to this censorship. No, it makes no sense (just like the CFL), but that’s why.

Kudos RS, you’re right that here in Canada Gretzky and God are synonymous. Well done.
