- Live Earth is upon us. The lineups for both the UK and US shows have been announced. Madonna, The Foo Fighters, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are among those headlining the UK show, which will take place at London’s Wembley Stadium. The US show will take place at Giants Stadium in New Jersey (take that Senator Inhofe) and will feature the Police, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, and Dave Matthews Band among others. All Live Earth shows will take place on July 7th.
- In what could be described as an act of clinically diagnosable projection, fallen soulstress Joss Stone has lashed out at American Idol, saying that the show used to be good but no longer is.
- Radiohead have posted a short behind-the-scenes-at-the-studio video here. Yorke introduces the clip by writing: “This is what happens when you spend too long listening to the same thing over and over again until you just cant tell anymore and you have to do something else instead.” It sounds like what we’re hearing is a collection of sounds some of which might be new Radiohead tunes. - Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has decided to run for election as the Labour candidate in the UK local council race in Marylebone this May. “I’m a Westminster resident and in my experience of living here, it all looks lovely – there are hanging baskets everywhere – but you only need to scratch beneath the surface and see that there’s a lot of deprivation and a lot of inequality around. I think someone needs to do something about it,” the drummer/politically inspired activist said. Cool.
- Pitchfork talked to Young Jeezy and his cohorts from USDA Blood Raw and Slick Pulla about their record Young Jeezy Presents USDA: Cold Summer (out May 22,) as well as this rumor that they will promote their new single “White Girls” using an all white girl street team. “Anything that’s new, you have to be different,” Blood Raw said of the strategy. How disappointingly cynical.
- Babyshambles have issued their love-struck singer an ultimatum: “It’s us or Kate,” the band seems to be saying. The singer hasn’t spoken to his bandmates in weeks, they are livid, and plan to confront him at a solo gig he’s playing tomorrow in London. Babyshambles, did you really think it would last?
