w0nderwall | 4/9/2007, 1:48 pm EST

Imus may be insulting and offensive, which simply shows his lack of any true talent in the radio business or politics/news for that matter, but Al Sharpton is just as damaging. He is a flat-out racist and nothing more or less than a master of self-promotion. It’s sad that ANYONE falls for his bullshit of “civil rights.” What he does is actually just keep people down. While I agree with the belief that the bigotry and racism he faced during his younger years is a complete tragedy and unjustified, that doesn’t give him a license to be a racist himself. No racism is justified. He is also a hater of police officers who risk their lives everyday to keep dangerous and uncivil people out of neighborhoods, rich or poor. All he does is shit on them. If a cop shoots and kills someone because they were black or whatever, he automatically sees COLOR and not reason. What if that person, regardless of color was a murderer? A rapist? A drug dealer? He gives them the benefit of the doubt over cops. Fuck Al Sharpton, the racist pig that he is. Fuck Imus too for his pathetic remarks.

RBShea | 4/9/2007, 1:51 pm EST

Face it. Imus is old and in the way.
Along with his village idiot “producer” Bernard, he’s way past his due date.

Imus has helped raise millions of dollars for the Brooke Army Medical Center to care for wounded Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. He also hosts children with cancer and blood disease at his cattle ranch in New Mexico. Before that, he was actively involved in fundraising for the CJ Foundation for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). He and his wife have raised millions of dollars for an addition to the Hackensack University Hospital.

I know what he said was horrible, foolish, ill-conceived, stupid, etc. I was shocked when I heard it. It makes me cringe to even read the quote in news accounts. But he’s not a terrible human being. Not by a long shot.

Racism should NEVER be tolerated in any way shape or form. PERIOD.

You’d think he’d know that his comments would get that kind of attention after being in the business for over 30 years. Stupid thing to say but still Imus has done more good for people than Jackson or Sharpton ever had or ever will.

Lets get real, quit getting your panties in a tight wad.Imus said the black woman had nape hair, well they do. How about Chris Rock on his HBO Show showing a black kid holding up a sign that reads..Fu*# white, or blacks calling whites crackers.
As far as Jackson, he is nothing but a con man wearing a bent cross, claiming to be a preacher of God, yea, right, get real folks, and leave the I Man alone.Who is that other comedian,George Lopez who keeps putting white’s down as being lazy and talks about the Mexicans have now taken over and calling for the white man to get use to it!
If the blacks and Mexicans want to hold the whites to a standard, then they also must be held to it as well.
Now lets go out there and tell raciest jokes and have some fun.
Hey Sharpton, your really not that sharp, and calling yourself a minster of God, you and Jackson both along with the rest of you, Popoff,Baker, Pat Roberts,Scholer and the rest of the T.V. whores go put your head in the tolit and give it a good flush, because your all full of SH*#

From Brooklyn | 4/10/2007, 2:02 pm EST

What on earth made Imus think that he could make such a remark about anyone like that especially, obviously, educated, athletic women in any setting and THINK that someone would laugh???????? He NEEDS to be, not SHOULD be fired and send a message that this kind of behavior is UNACCEPTABLE and WILL NOT be TOLERATED!!!!!!!!! His excuse of this being a ‘joke’ is lame. He has been in the business long enough to know better. He has, sadly enough, plenty of examples of what not to do…. but made a choice to do it anyway…………

I think that Imus does feel sorry for what he said. We (African-Americans) should not hold against him something that he has apologized for. In the long run, we look for his actions to be changed, and I believe they will.

Unfortunately, I think this will cause a divide in the black community in regards to what should happen to Imus. I don’t think he should be fired. We all need to learn from the situation and move on.

When the black community stops calling each other niggers and ho’s the world will follow. As long as they continue to denigrate each other with racial slurs they can’t expect others to refrain from the same language.

2ThaPoint | 4/11/2007, 2:09 pm EST

I understand what D. Imus said was insensitive, but comeon! Everytime I turn on an HBO stand-up special all I hear are racial overtones. Whether they’re black or white. If these sperm bank spades are as “professional” as they say they are, then they would’ve just laughed off his comments. It just proves one thing, they love trouble just like the rest of the world! We all must live with these comments and slurs no matter what the race. I myself have to hear many comments towards the latino community, but I don’t make a point of it simply because I always consider the source. Get over it America. And to all those Phony white folks trying to look sympathetic, I DOUBT ANYONE’S BUYING IT!

ghost face killah | 4/11/2007, 6:57 pm EST

and yet some rappers name themselves “ghost-faced killa” blatantly marketing the murders of white people and THAT’S ok?! WTF?! Imus is just giving back to the black community what they give themselves everyday…racial slurs designed to get other people’s attention. Get a life Sharpton!

At first I was concerned that if by chance he was or is being misunderstood, that this would be an end to his career. But after reconsidering it more. I think Its time to retire old man. He has enough riches to fall back on. Sure sucks to go out like this. He will be remembered for this last comment, and not for all that he accomplished in the past.

I can understand that comments made by Don Imus may have been inappropriate for some. But this is something that has gone on for years in Rap Music. It has become acceptable for Blacks to talk about Whites in a demeaning manner but when a white person says something in a joking manner all the blacks unite and say they are oppressed. Do you think if these comments were made by a Black person that the outcome would be the same? I also had a chance to listen to Rutgers Womens Basketball news conference and all I can say is WTF? I have never heard a more uneducated and illiterate speech that was given by the coach. These women are in college? One of the players who made comments did not even know Don Imus name. I believe this has been blown way out of proportion and is just a prime example of sensationalism in the news. Definately a case of making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I think it is disgusting how the “Reverends” Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson hide behind the church. I would think if they truly were “reverends”, they would try to make peace and forgive instead of trying to get the Afican-Americans all upset. Imus speaks that way about all of the races, religions, etc. but that’s okay. Just don’t say anything about the black people. Now who’s racist?

Anonymous | 4/12/2007, 6:38 am EST

I can’t figure out why the black band is hiding part of the comment list but basically I wanted to say that Imus appologized and that should be enough. Imus is known for being a little rough around the edges with his comments and it is ridiculous to make such a big deal about this. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton jump on every bandwagon they can and blow things into a big hullaballoo for their own causes. A sincere appology should be enough and the women should accept it in a sincere fashion. I saw a woman on a talk show carrying on about Imus and when the host pointed out that some of todays music use words like this all the time and that who exactly is allowed to use these words if it is ok for the music industry to do it. The woman looked flustered and then said that she was only there to talk about Imus. Another instance when Jackson and Sharpton got involved to heat things up was the Lacross players who were just vindicated publicly as not being guilty for that girl being raped. They are mouthy enough when things start but never there to appologize themselves when it turns out they were wrong. Just my opinion

Not a big deal | 4/12/2007, 8:16 am EST

I feel that the media makes racial relations worse by giving it the continuing coverage..do all the white people who live in trailers boycott My Name Is Earl because it portrays ” white trailer trash”, No.. so who cares. When Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears spread their legs on camera while wearing no underware does that make them nasty ho’s…yes. Everyone remembers Rodney King getting beat by the police but does anyone remember the man who was pulled out of his semi-truck and almost beat to death because he drove down the road in the middle of a bunch of black “white haters” who decided to take the law into their own hands. See the problem is and always has been that white people will divide on issues that sometimes are morally wrong and support those of another race who are right, whereas black people always stick together no matter what actions are being taken by their race. We “White America” are allowing this to happen.

Steve | 4/12/2007, 8:50 pm EST

First of all, I believe that Imus was incredibly stupid to have made such remarks on the air. He should (and has) apologize and pay the necessary reparations for his carelessness. Having said that — LET IT BE. Imus is the best show on the radio. Al Sharpton is simply using this for self promotion. He is the ultimate loud mouth who has made so many equally or more outlandish statements that one can’t count them all. He is the last person we should even listen to on this issue. What a joke.

While I don’t know Imus personally, I feel based on what I know about him that he is a good man. Part of his job is to be funny and entertaining. I really don’t believe he meant to hurt anyone. He screwed up like we all have. How many times have we all said something we regret when we were trying to be funny, not intending to be hateful? I believe that the good Imus has done should be considered. MSNBC — you are cowards!

creativethinker | 4/12/2007, 10:18 pm EST

Does this mean that Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and that clown Beck will be fired next. . .or do they just get away with it because they support right wing causes? Why do Sharpton and Jackson keep ignoring the Fox Brigade of Rednecks and go after a stupid over the hill dj who has spent a career rehabilitating himself publicly?
And who recorded ‘My Redneck Friend’??
Forgiveness – Don Henley

Mike Williamson | 4/13/2007, 6:59 pm EST

When I see al sharpton and jessie jackson standing in Cedric the Entertainers yard or Chris Rock’s house having one of their (look at me) demonstrations, then I will have no problem with them demanding retribution form imus.

Joe | 4/13/2007, 9:39 pm EST

As much as I enjoyed Imus and believe in free speech, it’s still hard for me to not believe he deserved to be penalized for going over the line. However, the penalty seems to be far too severe for the crime, given the nature of his program and what’s going on in the rest of society.

We can argue about whether Sharpton and Jackson (not necessarily in that order) have any right to chastize someone for racist behavior, in light of their history. But that won’t get us anywhere.

There’s only one solution to this problem. Don Imus has enough money, perhaps with a little help from his friends, to buy his own radio station. Let the market decide whether he should be listened to. And somehow methinks that his next show will continue to be entertaining, enlightening, and a highly constructive contribution to advancing the quality of all our lives.
