
- Paul McCartney survived a serious breach of security at his Peasmarsh country estate on Friday when a crazed fan drove his car through the gate, over McCartney’s lawns before finally crashing into trees and a fence right outside the house. The man was allegedly screaming “I must get to him” by the time security managed to restrain him. Scary.
- The NME is reporting that Robert Smith is working with Ashlee Simpson on her new record. Pete Wentz – who is a friend to both artists – apparently said that the pair know each other from Ashlee’s stint in the London production of Chicago. Is it too late for April Fools’?
- Avril Lavigne has spoken out against what she sees as Britney Spears’ weak incapacity to handle fame. “What’s happened to Britney is all down to who she is as a person,” Lavigne said. “If you want a piece of this business you have to be able to deal with it. You can’t complain about the pressures, the paparazzi, the madness because that’s the job.” Does the job include spitting at reporters?
- Tony Scott, a clarinetist, composer and arranger has died. Scott collaborated with the likes of Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker. He was 85.
- Well this is huge: EMI has just announced that they are launching “DRM-free superior quality downloads” – aka non copy protected digital tracks – and have said that Apple’s iTunes Store will be the first online music store to sell the piratable downloads.
- Listen to the new Chris Cornell song/see a cute picture of the rocker with his baby on his MySpace page. The song is called “No Such Thing,” not sure what the baby is named.
