hello world!

trichotomy | 4/8/2007, 3:46 pm EST

I love every record that comes out and play them ’till they’re done. The one I love the most is the first one I ever heard, and that’s Green, and my favorite song is on that album You Are The Everything and it reminds me of someone I loved very much at the time, the only person I ever truly loved.

REM Is my favorite group,if you do not count the BEATLES

R.E.M. is the greatest band that should be mentioned with the likes of The beatles, Stones, etc., not better or worse…different and great! Michael’s lyrics inspired me to write and they never fail to make be think, feel, or express something profound in the music they create. R.E.M. has grown into the music they are playing and while everyone wanted a return to the MURMUR styling they resisted and created what was within them and forged ahead because they truely love what they create and that is their collective greatness. Why people (so-called fans) get caught up in the personal life of any musican is beyond me. I could care less about anyone’s LIFESTYLE choice. I respect R.E.M. (Michael, Peter, Bill,Mike) for the art they have created and for continuing to share it with the world and making no apologies for it…except maybe Shiny Happy People…hey, we all should be allowed some crap in our lifes.

i couldn’t pick my favourite R.E.M. song but i’m glad to say that R.E.M. have provided the soundtrack to the last 4 years of my teenage years! and provided some of the best memories (there’s nothing quite like an R.E.M. concert!! and nothing will ever beat the day i met peter buck- my hero!!) hopefully this will continue for a long long time!

I grew up in North Georgia rural country, but was studying in Paris when Murmur came out. It never left my car cassette player for over a year. Then I found Chronic Town and wore it out even though it was the earlier EP. Everything seemed to be speaking to me. I was born the same year as Stipe and when he talks about the Monkees and Banana Splits, I know exactly what he means. Songs taking of sugar cane, watermelon, cicadas, Kudzu, eccentric fellas etc. I have artwork from R.A. Miller because I loved the videos and lived nearby. In the end, I do not agree with Stipe’s lifestyle choices, but defend his ability to chose. I look fondly on the IRS years and know that they can never revisit that. It was magical, but I feel strange about it because I so much identified with REM then, but feel so far from them today and I consider myself very in tune with progressive music (Arcade Fire, Panda Bear, Frames, Jesse malin and always all things Morrison - Van that is). It was a good ride for awhile. Thanks guys.

Skullfreak, fuck you.

Reveal is beautiful, on a par with “Automatic”. ATS has some nice songs but overall it turned out slower than the band told people it would be. They are entering the studio with a new producer (Jacknife Lee) so I for one am more excited about this record than anyother they have put out.

Tera | 3/19/2007, 2:26 pm EST

The best of R.E.M. are Green,Document,Autom.for the people,Out of time,Monster,I.R.S………… ……………………..

mati | 3/19/2007, 4:42 am EST

the best of r.e.m.:the i.r.s.years,there the real R.E.M.

bob | 3/18/2007, 11:21 pm EST

REM needs to rock alittle harder on their next record. The last 2 records had some good songs, but overall were tedious to listen to. Reveal was just downright boring. I do believe that they are still capable of doing there best work yet. Man, I sure miss Bill.

Teri | 3/17/2007, 1:03 am EST

I remember back in ‘83 when I was playing CHRONIC TOWN & MURMUR for everyone I knew & they said….

“Repetitive mishmash.”

“That guy can’t sing for shit.”

“You can’t even understand the words.”

“They’ll never make it.”

BWAAAHAAHAAHAA!!!!!!!!!

bob | 3/16/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Strong words skullfreak may be Wisdom comes with age

Diana | 3/14/2007, 10:35 am EST

Great stuff! Priceless interview…’Congratulations Michael you made Yoko think youre weird’. Lol!

lik roper | 3/13/2007, 11:50 am EST

my favorite REM songs are ‘can’t get there from here’ and ‘it’s the end of the world as we know it’…

Steve | 3/13/2007, 10:26 am EST

Monster was good. I loved that CD.

I’ll pay attention to what they put out

Hunter | 3/13/2007, 8:49 am EST

I would ask Stipe why don’t they do another record like Monster. That was there best… What happened to them?

And whoever said Rev Sharpton speech was the best speech in 2007 should not forget the Rev. is a man who survives on victim mentality and is an extreme racist thug.

Dare To Hear A Fool | 3/12/2007, 11:42 pm EST

so now that michael stipe gave a shout out to saddle creek and connor oberst are you going to start caring more about what they put out!?

Dirt Dawg | 3/12/2007, 11:05 pm EST

Velvet Revolver…totally sucked…what a frigin joke…Scott needs to enter rehab…what a lousy lead singer.

Memphis Blues | 3/12/2007, 9:45 pm EST

Rev. Sharpton’s James Brown memorial!!!!! That was the greatest speech of 2007 so far.

I would be honored to have someone speak so passionately about me after I’m gone.

Skullfreak | 3/12/2007, 8:15 pm EST

Fuck you, Stipe. Be a man and stand by your words. I read what you said in Rolling Stone 12 years ago or so. You made no apologies back then about how you felt about the Beatles. In fact, I’ll quote by MEMORY that you said about the Beatles and Stones: “Silly fucking bands, which is exactly what they were” Don’t change your tune now. Oh, and btw, REM couldn’t hold the Beatles’ JOCK if you tried.
