Weekend Rock List: Best Squeeze Songs

3/9/07, 4:53 pm EST

Squeeze

An announcement on Squeeze genius Glenn Tilbrook’s Web site declares that he and co-genius Chris Difford have decided to reform and perform “a limited amount of shows.” Very exciting. In honor of this thrilling news we’d like to declare the following five songs as the best Squeeze songs ever.

  • “Cool for Cats”
  • “Another Nail in My Heart”
  • “When The Hangover Strikes”
  • “Up the Junction”
  • “Tempted”

There are too many to limit it to five! The list must include Some Fantastic Place!!

Westerberg for Pres. | 3/9/2007, 8:29 pm EST

Pulling Mussels…..no…, not that one.

newtonnola | 3/9/2007, 8:51 pm EST

All Squeeze songs are perfection. But I am partial to If I Didn’t Love You.

auramac | 3/9/2007, 9:19 pm EST

I hope they do another album! Another great duo/group in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts (though their best stuff, I must admit, came early in their career).

Lobsters | 3/9/2007, 10:29 pm EST

Have they found a decent singer?

Rod | 3/9/2007, 10:32 pm EST

It’s gotta be “Cool for Cats” – so new wave, so good. But, really, “Singles – 45’s and Under” is just one of the greatest albums ever. Pick any track.

Steve | 3/9/2007, 10:39 pm EST

Wow, this would be really exciting news if I wasn’t stuck in the U.S.

First James reunites, now Squeeze…probably neither of them will do U.S. dates. What’s next, the reformation of The Stone Roses?

sigh…

I’m in the U-K! Nah, nah, nah, nah NNAAAHHH, nah!

quite enjoy black coffee in bed. and pulling mussels.

But they really do need this in the US instead, to remind people that pop music used to not be such a f—ing joke!!

There are just too many to list. They need to come stateside; if 2007 offers up the opportunity to see Squeeze AND The Police, I can die happy.

does “whisper to a scream” with Elvis Costello count?

Dan | 3/11/2007, 10:21 pm EST

I agree with these but i feel that pulling mussels is also one of their best songs

Bill Foster | 3/11/2007, 10:33 pm EST

I know it’s their biggest hit and thus a bit cliche but i’d have to repalce nail (which is a great song) with Black Coffee …. it’s just too good to leave off.

Mike, Liverpool | 3/12/2007, 6:31 am EST

SO happy to have seen Glenn Tilbrook perform in London in May, and will see the boys twice on their reunion tour. I’ve been a Squeeze fan for the past 25 years and hope to be for the next 25, too!

orphyus | 2/24/2008, 3:20 pm EST

Loved the “who are they” comments. LOVED them. As with all great music, if you’re not curious enough to find out, you don’t deserve it. Say argybargy until you choke on it.
