Breaking News: Eddie Van Halen Is Going to Rehab

3/8/07, 5:43 pm EST

Eddie Van HalenWe just received this compelling text from Eddie Van Halen’s representatives. We’re all pulling for you, Eddie …

I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I’m doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and
I thank you with all my heart.

Love,

Ed

I love you Eddie.

Beautiful.

Good luck, get well…stay home if you have to!

Josh | 3/8/2007, 5:56 pm EST

Let’s hope he stays in there longer than Britney. Too bad he’ll miss the Rock n’ Roll hall of fame induction. I would have loved to see the five real members of VH (not including Gary or Wolfgang) accepting their awards together.

How did that old Van Halen song go? “I found the simple life ain’t so simple … ” The iconic Los Angeles metal band is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a lavish New York banquet Monday night, but now it appears that only one original member, bassist Michael Anthony, will even show up.

David Lee Roth, the band’s frontman for its first decade, said Thursday he will not attend the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel ceremony because event officials have turned down his repeated overtures to perform.

“I don’t make speeches for a living; I sing and dance for my dinner,” Roth said, adding that the decision to skip the event “rips my heart out.”

The hall of fame’s event organizers plan for Velvet Revolver to perform some Van Halen classics, much as Metallica stood in last year to play Black Sabbath songs while that band’s members watched from the audience. “So it appears this is a television producer’s decision,” Roth said.

The choice of Velvet Revolver was in response to a sticky situation as far as what lineup of Van Halen could take the stage to perform with Roth. Van Halen’s revered guitar hero, Eddie Van Halen, and his brother, drummer Alex, had already sent signals that they would not be in New York. The Van Halens have been in lock-down mode since their plans for a summer reunion tour with Roth collapsed last month. Roth said he last spoke to Eddie Van Halen’s camp a week ago, and he said he could not determine the truth about reports that the guitarist is seeking help for alcohol problems.

“Ed is indisposed and working toward a better future here,” Roth said. “If Ed ever dries up, this is going to be a stadium act, man…. What’s happening here with this [New York event] is part and parcel of the same spiral that screwed up the tour.”

Without the Brothers Van Halen, the Hall faced the prospect of putting Roth on stage with bass player Michael Anthony, who is the lone founding member expected to attend, and Sammy Hagar, Roth’s replacement in the band and longtime foil, who logged more than a decade as the band’s frontman. Hagar confirmed Thursday he is attending.

Roth said Thursday he had been preparing since December for the chance to perform for the industry elite, the media and a television audience that will be watching the ceremony live on VH1 Classics.

“It’s just not an option for me to go and watch some other band — who are only performing because they have some new record coming out — do our music,” Roth said. “I have nothing against Velvet Revolver — I’m not familiar with their music — but that was my 3 minutes and 22 seconds up there.”

The other inductees this year are R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and the Ronettes. The 2007 inductees were chosen by the 600 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after their first recording was released. The ceremony will also be streamed live on AOL at spinner.aol.com/rockhall.

Chris | 3/8/2007, 5:59 pm EST

We’re with you all the way, Ed. Take care and we’ll be here when you’re ready.

Anonymous | 3/8/2007, 6:01 pm EST

get well soon, ed! you rock

GreggX | 3/8/2007, 6:09 pm EST

This entire soap opera is perfect for Behind the Music and just goes to show that The Hall still has some issues to iron out on its own before it can be taken seriously.

VANZILLA | 3/8/2007, 6:10 pm EST

Let’s hope this one sticks Ed. What is this, your 8th stint? Get it together and rock out before you lose what’s left of your dwindling fan base. I don’t feel one bit of sympathy for Ed because he’s pulled this crap before. The last time he got out of rehab he cranked out VHIII, so who knows how low the bar will go when he exits this time. I’m done with VH. It kills me to say it after more than 25 years loving this band, but dammit – I can’t take it anymore. Long live Roth.

Dave | 3/8/2007, 6:12 pm EST

Get well Champ.

Ice Cream Man | 3/8/2007, 6:14 pm EST

In the 80’s, Ed did more blow than Scarface and drank more than a medium sized German city could! Don’t go to rehab, Ed..you’ll turn into Aerosmith!!

Stevo | 3/8/2007, 6:15 pm EST

Love the ad next to Ed’s picture.

I’ll be praying for Ed and his family.

Geno | 3/8/2007, 6:18 pm EST

Eddie, Your family, friends and true fans are pulling for you. Wolf needs his dad healthy more then any of us need a VanHalen show this summer, we will be here when you get better!

tj in sa | 3/8/2007, 6:29 pm EST

Take your time Ed. We’ll do what’s necessary. Wait.

GBY

Bunnie | 3/8/2007, 6:32 pm EST

Eddie, we are all by your side and will wait until you are ready.

As far as ROTH not performing at the Rock Hall of Fame….Shame on you, Jan Wenner….ROTH is on good terms with the VH Bros. and is a founding member – his voice is Signature to Van Halen….WHY would fans want to hear VR???? This is ROTH’s night and he best represents Van Halen and the legacy that bestowed them the honor of finally getting into the Rock Hall of Fame….What’s wrong with you ?

DAVE or the GRAVE!

Crazy Kiwi From The Heat | 3/8/2007, 6:33 pm EST

About Fucking Time Ed.

Van Halen put on hold for another 22 years………

Richard | 3/8/2007, 6:35 pm EST

It’s about time. Pardon the pun VH fans.

I agree that it is more important Edward get himself healthy physically AND mentally for the sake of his son = before anything revolving around the BAND Van Halen.

Its unfortunate that these circumstances have to be happening at a time that should be a great period of celebration for all those involved in Van Halen the band.

Edward – we celebrate your career this weekend and wish you success in finding the balance that we all search for.

Good luck.

Tammy | 3/8/2007, 6:40 pm EST

Good luck, Eddie. I love you but you break my heart. Please work things out, bring Micheal Anthony back and give us a tour.

Mike | 3/8/2007, 6:45 pm EST

Good luck Eddie. Doesnt look like the RIRHOF event is much to miss. Not letting Dave perform, but letting VR play in their place ( a band who has no connection at all to VH) is pure bullshit.

PAULIE | 3/8/2007, 6:49 pm EST

Hey Ed….I actually feel a little guilty saying bad stuff about you guys lately. If you have a problem, then fix it. That’s good you are doing that.

Get healthy dude, then lets see you, Roth, and your bro and wolfie rock.

ken vail jr | 3/8/2007, 7:00 pm EST

you wonder why so many great musicians who have everything going for them resort to substance abuse….but hopefully he gets his act together.

Alex_Pasadena,CA | 3/8/2007, 7:02 pm EST

I know it’s hard but it’s time to grow up. I wish you all the luck in the world eddie….

DBC VANHALEN FAN | 3/8/2007, 7:03 pm EST

Eddie seeking rehab is a positive step for himself, his family, Van Halen and his fans. I hope and pray he will remain dedicated to taking the necessary steps to become – and remain – clean and sober. Acheiving this state will open up the door to a bright future with the band (hopefully with David Lee Roth at the helm!)

Stay with it, Ed!

EP5150 | 3/8/2007, 7:32 pm EST

Get well Edward!!!

PatoMaster | 3/8/2007, 7:36 pm EST

Edu…mejorate boló!! y te veo en otro momento.

BK5150 | 3/8/2007, 7:39 pm EST

Right now, hey
It’s your tomorrow
Right now,
C’mon, it’s everything
Right now,
Catch that magic moment, and do it right,
Right now

Edward Van Fuckstick | 3/8/2007, 7:40 pm EST

Hope that money you stole from those idoits who bought those Fenders from you finds you a nice rehab clinic.

Davis | 3/8/2007, 7:41 pm EST

It takes a lot of strength, to do what your doing, courage as well.
Here’s wishing you the best in your recovery efforts, were all behind you 110%. I don’t know A whole lot About Rehab like this, but can say take your time..True fans never will leave your side, and will wait to see Van Halens amazing display when it happens again.

w0nderwall | 3/8/2007, 7:41 pm EST

Overrated fuck! Go to rehab and stay there. You and your band have always sucked! Ha! What’s next for this “has-been”? Fucking loser. And all you morons who actually are writing to wish him well, don’t expect any thank you cards from Hallmark, fucksticks!

Graham | 3/8/2007, 7:42 pm EST

It’s really sad that Eddie Van Halen has to go to rehab in 2007. It is indeed time to grow up, my friend. Get sober and learn to control yourself for your fans, yourself, and especially for your family. Best of luck.

Ramiro | 3/8/2007, 7:43 pm EST

Man I was really hoping to see all the boys at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and I was considering purchasing VH-1 Classics just to see them again. I had the pleasure of seeing them at US 83 in Fontana it was awesome. Eddie brother just get your shit together anbd get off the booze you will be a much better guitar player and then get together with David Lee and the original members again.

Danniel Amyx | 3/8/2007, 7:44 pm EST

All our hopes and prayers for your health.

Be our hero again Eddie!

EVH | 3/8/2007, 7:47 pm EST

Very convenient.
What a crock!

Frankenstat1 | 3/8/2007, 7:55 pm EST

Good luck Eddie as you said time to get back to the beginning.

Garry | 3/8/2007, 8:00 pm EST

Way to go Eddie. That’s the best dissision you have made. If you are sincere, then we are with you man.

Jeff | 3/8/2007, 8:01 pm EST

Good for Eddie for doing this and I hope he follows through until he can be what he wants to be. I don’t think it is a crock or an excuse for anything, I think he really knows that if he went out on tour now with Roth that he may tarnish his legacy more so than it is now by not being able to give it his all.

DoubleWOW | 3/8/2007, 8:04 pm EST

get well Eddie! I and all fans can’t wait to see you up and rocking again!!
peace love empathy

Malcom Jamaal Warners left nut | 3/8/2007, 8:12 pm EST

Sober musicians suck. Bring back classic Van Halen when Ed would suck off a Heineken and Dave would do a pseudo wack-off with a bottle of JD. To the TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Jones, | 3/8/2007, 8:16 pm EST

Get well soon Enid!… Your lucky to have a nice wife like Kathrine McPhee! Let her makes the monies for you Mr. Van Halens. There’s always that deal with MTV, that VH-1 network that you have a stake in! You can always sell hot-dawgs like Jonnie “Goodboy” Meloncramp! Before you can start re-re-rehab you have to quit smoking first!…. Have fun Enid!
Love Jones, Indy IV

Eddie Z | 3/8/2007, 8:25 pm EST

For lifelong VH fans like I am, since ‘78, it’s been heart breaking to see Eddie make bad decision after bad decision. I saw that junk they called a tour in 04. Sammy and Michael, hired empoyees? Rediculous. I’m tired of your crap Edward. I hope you heal soon and quit destroying the legacy. There are people out here who adore your work. Give us some good product, not some schlock you just throw together like the last few tunes you did with Sammy. Get well, get it right, or bow out gracefully. Your making a mockery of the name. Your name. And it’s killing your fans. The people that put you in that big bad house on the hill. And we deserve better.
God Bless.

They Should Have Hung Bush | 3/8/2007, 8:36 pm EST

No way should we be talking about Eddie’s rehab in 2007. Van Halen should have been like AC/DC, except with more offensively sexist lyrics and innovative music. They should have been a heavy metal U2: no original member changes, and making music consistently and professionally for decades.

Every VH album should be love letters to loose women with big tits turned up to 11 (remember Balance and III? Ugh.) Eddie should be unwilling to surrender his guitar god title to emos and goths, but that’s what he’s done.

Why can’t these celebrity bozos keep their shit together? VH fans have a right to feel betrayed after this bullshit with the tour and the hall of fame. He should have dealt with his problems a long time ago. He should be enjoying a second coming by now. Eddie shot so much coke up his nose in the 70’s and 80’s that it’ll never happen; if it was going to happen, it would have happened by now. Eddie’s too brain-damaged. At this rate he’ll die with his last recordings being porn music and Van Halen III, and that’s sad. It’s Eddie’s damn fault he can’t keep his shit together.

The hall of fame is a pile of shit as long as Rush is kept out. Rush is as successful as any of the lesser-known members, if not more so. They’re true rock road warriors, have a formidable and diverse catalog, and their instrumental skills are admired and emulated by generations of musicians. It’s not like I’ll ever bother to travel to Cleveland to see what a group of unqualified elitists considers “the best.” Why would I go to Cleveland in any case?

nurserock1 | 3/8/2007, 8:43 pm EST

God Bless Eddie,
We knew you were sick. With all the joy you gave people I’m glad that you can find it in your heart to love yourself enough to stop.
Its a long hard road that I’ve walked myself.

Joe Rogan's hairpiece | 3/8/2007, 8:47 pm EST

Michael Anthony will be the only original member at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. He will accept the award but not before he pimps his new hot sauce. It’s called “Fire in the Hole”

Carlos | 3/8/2007, 8:49 pm EST

And Now what? Not again! Another wait? Another year? Metallica frontman rehab took 9 months!

David Lee Roth | 3/8/2007, 8:50 pm EST

“Look at all the drunks here tonightttttttttttttttt….humm a la bibbidy bop…I ain’t got nobody…nobody takes the stage with me…I’m so bald and lonely…bald and lonely…bald and lonely…”

michael | 3/8/2007, 8:54 pm EST

hopefully Eddie will sober up and give REAL VH fans what they have wanted for 20 yeras, the original 4 members back on stage again!!!!!!!!!!!!

michael | 3/8/2007, 8:55 pm EST

sorry Eddie,no one wants to see Wolfie on stage!his appearance here in LA on the 2004 tour was bad enough.

Viking | 3/8/2007, 9:09 pm EST

Let me see if I got this whole sub-moronic soap opera straight: after years of living in various states of pickle-hood, Edweird Van Heineken first kicks out a founding member of the band in favor of a pudgy little snotnose too young to drive (that’s Pugsley Van Halen, for the uninitiated), THEN picks the WEEK BEFORE the HoF induction to decide that he wants to see what it’s like to wake up sober. (Note to Ed: you ain’t gonna be a pretty sight.) NOW, we have some teabagger on the HoF staff tell the FOUNDING LEAD SINGER THAT HE’S NOT ALLOWED TO SING. So, we end up honoring the ORIGINAL Van Halen with a gaggle of G-n-R retreads and two ostricized alumni at this point, correct?

Fuck Eddie Van Halen.

Fuck the band Van Halen.

Fuck the HoF.

Have a little dignity, and call the whole thing off. Award, tour, everything. Fans have been bent over, grabbing their ankles for 22 years. I, for one, am pulling my drawers up and walking away forever.

KB | 3/8/2007, 9:12 pm EST

Guess he didn’t learn from his first hip replacement, huh? What a washed up shadow of his former self. Put VH to bed already…no one cares anymore.

5150inDetroit | 3/8/2007, 9:14 pm EST

Hope for all the best man. i hope things can change for the better with everyone involved. your health, the music, the band. and just doing what you like to do best.

smithy | 3/8/2007, 9:15 pm EST

Good luck Brother.

Bill | 3/8/2007, 9:19 pm EST

Ed – your a tool
Al – wear a freakin dress

Hey fans bashing Mad Mike – Whats the difference between him selling you hot sauce and VH selling you records?

Answer – none – your just too stupid to realize there is no difference.

brett | 3/8/2007, 9:20 pm EST

good luck eddie, we all want the real eddie to come back in full form!

VH fan | 3/8/2007, 9:23 pm EST

That is great. Pretty obvious even to a casual fan that this was much needed (non-functioning band, scoring porno movies, public claim that you have a cure for cancer, hiring 15 year old son for band, drunk public appearances, divorce etc) Stay sober!

Phantanstico | 3/8/2007, 9:27 pm EST

Have a beer Eddie and rock on!

coemgen | 3/8/2007, 9:31 pm EST

Wow. It’s kind of cool for a celebrity to just come out and admit they’re human.

meglovesrs | 3/8/2007, 9:34 pm EST

Good luck Eddie! All the best. I wasn’t alive when you guys were on top of the world, but you give me hope anyways.

Will | 3/8/2007, 9:36 pm EST

I wish the best of luck to you, Eddie, you’re an amazing and talented human being.

VHfan to make benefit glorious | 3/8/2007, 9:43 pm EST

What will be the First Thing Eddie will say once he comes off of his 10 year Drunk ?

I wanted to reunite with WHO ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Go get em Ed. And Bring Sammy and Mike back. Daves nothing anymore.

BuddahWorthmore | 3/8/2007, 9:45 pm EST

to the poster who wonders why people “resort to substance abuse”… ya see, there’s this thing called life, and it’s really really intense. and if you are CREATIVE on top of that, you are AMPLIFIED.
The problem is that it begins to catch up with you as you get older.
Rebounding from a crazed weekend with plenty ‘o’ buzz, is different when you’re 25 as opposed to 50.
But by that time, you are habit-formed… so unless you want to “white-knuckle” it, the logical choice is treatment.
I am a strong believer that “straight” rock-n-roll is pretty much a myth, and if you’re gonna sing it or play it, you better LIVE it, or you end up sounding like U2.
The important thing about humans using available substances to “enhance” their reality, is to remember that one must “check yourself, before you wreck yourself”.
Like Hunter said so eloquently, “I don’t recommend drug use and rock’n'roll behaviour, I’m just saying it worked for me”…(really bad paraphrase, forgive me, Mr. Thompson).
People die crossing busy streets, so don’t let a little “management” issue spoil your fun.
Good Goin Eddie, you’ll love life even better when the clouds part.

VH Fan4ever | 3/8/2007, 9:47 pm EST

We need Eddie back, we need Mike back.Alex comes with Eddie. Sammy should be back in the fold.Make a new album, Ed, don’t live in the past. Dave has slogged off VH in the press since day one, and if he could leave you in the dust, he would.Sammys a class act who even supported your tour with Dave.

Who cares about Dave.

Larry | 3/8/2007, 9:58 pm EST

Eddy….It’s never to late! Give yourself a full year to discover and recover! Fans will support you doing the next right thing. Sobriety first, and everything else second will be first class!

Kim | 3/8/2007, 9:59 pm EST

That’s wonderful to hear! I’ve been a Van Halen freak since ‘81,and Eddie is the greatest guitarist to ever walk this earth! If he plays that great intoxicated,I can’t wait to here him when he’s sober! Way to go Ed!Take you’re time, all your true fans will wait.

Walk Away | 3/8/2007, 10:00 pm EST

I don’t know

I’m not buying this.

The guy needs to walk the walk before he talks the talk.

Why should we believe anything he says.He is a drunk.

Prove that you can do this, and maybe I’ll come back to the fold. If not, walk away, just don’t string your fans around.

Being nice and supportive is great.Being lemmings is not.Following a drunk’s comments become illogical.

He has a trail of wreckage strung behind him. Anybody think he really means it this time ?

His wife left him, he treated Sammy bad,He kicks Mike out.Charges outrageous prices to the fans, then, sell guitars painted in his garage on ebay for high prices because he played them.

I think I still want out.

wanna be | 3/8/2007, 10:01 pm EST

Hey VHfan4ever..shut the hell up! You know nothing about VH or music for that matter! A moment of silence for Ed please! Excuse me….Ed needs help first…not your stupid comments!

Tara | 3/8/2007, 10:03 pm EST

Much love to you, Eddie!

Lobsters | 3/8/2007, 10:13 pm EST

Roth will not be “allowed” to perform at the Hall Of Fame Tea Party? And exactly whose decision is that? Why is he treated like a bum while Michael Stipe gets treated like a Queen? What a load of crap.

Evan | 3/8/2007, 10:14 pm EST

Wow, he looks like complete trash

MALDITO_INVIERNO | 3/8/2007, 10:27 pm EST

EDDIE , WE LOVE YOU IN CHILE

Vhmike5150 | 3/8/2007, 10:30 pm EST

Hey Eddie all of your true fans have a big thumbs up for you ,you do what you gotta do and then get back to business ,i got faith in ya and the decisions you make as far as van halen is concerned….I say,LONG LIVE THE KING ,EDDIE VAN HALEN!!!

MJ St. Louis | 3/8/2007, 10:32 pm EST

Hey EDDIE — just attack this the way you attack your guitar and play those tunes!!

They always say your first year clean and sober is free. When times get tough Just remember to take it “ONE DAY AT AT TIME”

You can do it, just look at what you have accomplished with hard work, commitment and determination.

Your in my prayers.

GOD BLESS!!

We all Love you Ed | 3/8/2007, 10:33 pm EST

As a Human being first. We know you are a great guy and are all want the best for you. You are a genuine person and a hell of a guy. Get better man…. We’ve met on several occasion and you’ve been nothing but a nice, humble person…. please find it in yourself to make the rest of your life really count… VH or no VH. All that matters is that you are happy and healthy. Get better my good friend. You’ve brought alot of jot to a lot of people. Now please, take care of you!

Love all the true VH fans.

High Horse? | 3/8/2007, 10:47 pm EST

Hiccup-ee Slip-up-ee Flop,
I predicted this very plot,

His muzac was ailing,
His fans kept bailing,
And now we’re expected 2 be shocked.

That is truly a Born Looser…
U kiddies should stear clear from that Boozer .

MR.WHITE | 3/8/2007, 10:49 pm EST

Edward Van Halen is a sorry excuse for a human being. This “stunt” is yet another way of putting the screws to DAVID LEE ROTH, MICHAEL ANTHONY, SAMMY HAGAR, & the fans.
He’s had YEARS of free time when he could have gone into “rehab”, yet waits to the eve of their induction into the RRHOF to do it?
“Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?”
Yeah…once again.

Wildbill96 | 3/8/2007, 11:05 pm EST

Just another VanHalen train wreck. I was once a fan but now I believe that with the exception of Sammy and Mike the rest of these guys are nothing but a bunch of has been’s. Listen to your old records and just forget about VH ever doing anything in the future except for trying to cash in on their fans. Eddie was once the best now he’s an example of the worst.

sweetnessfollows | 3/8/2007, 11:11 pm EST

oh no not eddie van halen! hes contributed so much to music in the past 15 years! what will we do without him?

Rooster | 3/8/2007, 11:20 pm EST

I, sir, shall drink a cold beer and proceed to piss on my television each and everytime I see that drunkard waste any more precious alcohol. Where I come from, that is abuse! Never leave a cold soldier on the table – you drink it!

It takes a long time to get sick- and a long time to get well- one day at a time, in fact. This is a good and important first step for anyone who finally admits he is powerless over alcohol- certainly explains a lot, too! (I thought he was just nuts!)
Good luck- this disease is a killer.

THE MARD | 3/9/2007, 12:02 am EST

Here’s hoping Ed gets better so that he can team up with Sammy again and write songs with brilliant lyrics like, “Only time will tell if we stand the test of time.”

nolan5150 | 3/9/2007, 12:11 am EST

Eddie, I wish you the best on the long road to recovery. The first step is admitting you have a problem. When you start pushing away the ones you love, such as Valrie, Mike Anthony, and Sammy Hagar, it’s time to take a look at yourself. I mean, Valrie is the one of the best things to happen to you. Mike Anthony would harm a fly. I wouldn’t expect him just to sit around and do nothing. He just wanted to sing and play music and have fun. He did not join another band. The Other Half was just a side project, like when you and Brian May did Starfleet. Sammy is a great human being too. He loves life and loves everyone. I know he misses the Eddie he first met when you were both writing the music and lyrics for 5150. I also think that it was ridiculous that Sammy couldn’t mention his tequila and Mike couldn’t mention his hot sauce during the 2004 VH reunion tour. It sounds like there was some jealousy there. On another note, if you want to do a reunion with David Lee Roth, don’t talk to each other. Just fly in on seperate jets and meet up onstage and do what you both do best. Forget rehearsals and making a studio album and talking to each other. Dave is just plain hard to get along with, and most conversation with Dave will eventually end up in an argument. Just ask Sammy from the Sammy and Dave tour of 2002. I know there is a great personality and human being waiting to get out. I await the return of the new and improved Eddie Van Halen with a kick ass tour to follow with whomever you decide to join you. I’ll be there, and I’ll be praying for you. Again, I wish you the best of luck. God bless.

live at the whiskey | 3/9/2007, 12:29 am EST

Our prayers are with You Ed,get better first then worry about the rest.Alot of people need you around.Hope You plan on stooping in at your old stomping grounds,U R always welcome here.Oh and Ed,your too damn loud!!!!! Get better brother.

Greg | 3/9/2007, 12:31 am EST

So the tour is kaput, figures. Doesn’t matter though. I would only pay to see Van Halen. No Mike,no Van Halen.
Eddie if your going to get sober, do it. If your going to continue killing yourself then do that. But make up your mind. There are only 2 choices, choose. I know I’ve been there. When the haze clears, do the right thing and bring us the real Van Halen. No Substitutes.
Good Luck Brother.

w0nderwall | 3/9/2007, 12:38 am EST

Rehab is for pussies like Eddie Van Halen and Lindsay Lohan. Real men like Noel Gallagher quit drugs cold turkey, like a man. These other “rock” stars are just pussies.

w0nderwall | 3/9/2007, 12:41 am EST

The only prayer I have for Eddie Van Sissy-Halen is that he stays in rehab. No one cares about you or your fucking band. Disappear you pathetic has-been. Stay there and shave your head like Britney Spears, you sissy fuck. Pretty soon, Axl Rose will join you once Chinese Democracy is released to the shittiest reception of all-time, and so will James Hetfield after he breaks a nail while fighting with his degenerate lesbian girlfriend Lars Ulrich. Fuck off asshole!

MJM | 3/9/2007, 12:42 am EST

Maybe if Ed wasn’t partying with that tequila pushing clown head for the past two decades we could have some REAL Van Halen songs.

Peggy | 3/9/2007, 12:56 am EST

Eddie has wasted away a great talent for what?? He was an awesome guitarist, and let himself fade away to nothing, alienating his best friends…Michael Anthony left to play, that is what he does best and has always been faithful to Eddie and Alex, and to get “kicked out” of VH was NOT right. How can you blame a guy for wanting to play music? VH was doing nothing, going nowhere!!! Mikey is awesome and I am glad that Sammy has embraced him and let him tour with him, after seeing many shows with him, he truly loves performing, and him and Sammy are a perfect fit!

Long live Sammy and Mikey!!!!

SWS | 3/9/2007, 1:02 am EST

Rehab is easy usually in a safe controled enviroment afterwards is when the test begins I can’t believe some of the comments on this page your life is more important than any band, band members, tours ect.. you are a great guitarist and musican I hope you find you don’t need chemicals to make it happen when people realize that addiction is a disease and it can take you places you never thought you would go So I say Don’t worry about what people{fans?) say Recovery has to come first and everything else will fall into Place

Chris | 3/9/2007, 1:34 am EST

I hope Eddie sobers up, but what awful timing….I wish I could high-five Dave for giving the RRHOF the finger. I wish the original four can (down the road) just go out in style with a tour. In a perfect world, Hagar could come out for a few tunes, as well.

Steven Millan | 3/9/2007, 2:02 am EST

Get well Ed,for the world definitely needs you to heal so that you can play once again with Van Halen(with Alex,Dave,Wolfie, and even Sammy and Mike),since thw world has been badly reeling without Van Halen and is in sheer need of Van Halen, for recover as properly as you can,and the best of mucho luck to you,Ed !!

Where’s Ed’s brother in all this ?! I find Alex Van Halen’s silence on all Van Halen (band and brother)issues to be disturbing. He’s your brother ! Get’em help for chrissakes ! He’s Eddies worst enemy. He’s the enabler. If I let myself go like Ed did, my brothers would set me straight for sure. From all the articles I’ve read, Alex seems to get along with Sammy and Mike, and at least tolerate Dave, but defers to Ed. You’re the supposed “other half” of Van Halen, show some frikkin’ backbone Alex !!

Oh, yeah, Ed get well…

Janet | 3/9/2007, 9:46 am EST

How come everyone is assuming he’s going into an alcohol rehab center? In recent photos Eddie looks like an old Meth user. That said, I hope his recovery goes well!

The Guitar God Is Smiling | 3/9/2007, 10:19 am EST

Ed, This world will take, take, take, until you have nothing left to give. Then they’ll take the last breath you have. You’ve spent most of your life doing what you do best, playing guitar and entertaining people. God gave you a gift,(and it has been given to you from the Almighty)and you have honed your skill so well. All this is great, but when you check out of here, being a guitar god here on earth won’t get you through to the next level. Your game ends, period. Get your body right, get your head clear, and get right with THE MAN. I would love to hear you play guitar with that boyish grin on your face for eternity. God is YOUR biggest fan!!!

Joanna | 3/9/2007, 10:26 am EST

Van, you gave us such beauty and strength through those tight riffs. May the almighty bless you, and quench your thirst for the barrens drink. Find the light, find the light, take the light, and live through to enternity in our hearts, and in our ears, and in our ears minds. May the smell of booze, smell stale to you once you have spoken to him above, and when you speak to him, may he teach you some new riffs that you may share with us, to feed our ears minds. God bless you, and God bless your precious booze free fingers.

Mitch | 3/9/2007, 10:27 am EST

Good news because this is exactly what he needs. Get himself together first and then work on the rest. Also, I agree Alex is probably an enabler. Eddie needs to make amends with Michael Anthony and put the “original ” VH back together again.

TheLawyer | 3/9/2007, 10:31 am EST

He looks like an old meth user because he’s been a long time booze abuser. Hey that rhymes. But all joking aside, it would be great to see Eddie pull through as a human being first followed closely by the musician we all want to see again.

rivercityrascal | 3/9/2007, 10:50 am EST

Alex most certainly is an enabler, as are all of his “friends” who gloss over all the stupid things he has done. You know who you are, people! Too bad this man wasn’t made to take responsibility for his actions a long time ago. Perhaps he would not be in the situation he is in today. Also, for parents who see no harm in letting young teens drink at home – take a look at Eddie because home is where it started for him.
Valerie admitted she was an enabler, but at least she did something about it.

Kim | 3/9/2007, 10:53 am EST

I think Eddie is the most incredible musician I’ve ever heard in my life, so all of you haters need to take a step back and look at yourselves before you cast the first stone. Who or what gives any of us the right to judge anyway? That is between Ed and God, bottom line. If you’ve ever walked down the road of addiction, then you should know you can’t get sober until you’re ready, or you won’t stay clean. Who cares if he’s went a few times before, that’s his own personal buisness, and none of ours! Don’t listen to them ED, just work on yourself and do what’s right for you and your family. I for one have loved Van Halen since “You really got me” was released, and I will love them til the day I die! If you’re not a true fan, or are too young to remember when they first became famous, then you’ll never understand how incredible they are, or how they changed the face of music! I do hope they come out with more recordings and tours, but they should do it when the time is right for them, and no one else. Even if they never record another cd or tour again I’m happy that I have cd’s to listen to, and that I’ve been able to see them in concert. Get well Eddie, VH FOREVER!!!!!

bastid5150 | 3/9/2007, 11:04 am EST

I agree that Eddie needs to get his life straightened out. I wish him the best. I am a loyal fan of VH since day one in ‘78. But I am tired of defending them. Ed & AL both have made terrible decisions the past several years. All I hear is how Ed & Al play and write music every day and they have several hours of music recorded but where is it?!?! Since Ed is going into rehab, how about releasing some new VH music. Release this epic “Rehearsal” with Wolfie on bass for the masses to enjoy. Even better, go through the piles and piles of Classic Roth era Live stuff and release that. The Us Festival would be nice. How about all of the concert footage that was shot on the 1981 Fair Warning tour? Release what you can to keep the “faithful” remembering why they are so loyal to you in the first place. Keep the fires burning so when Ed finally gets out of rehab, the world will be waiting on pins and needles. Good luck to you Ed. I hope you are really seeking help and not just jerking us around again.

DLR4evr | 3/9/2007, 11:47 am EST

It’s time Ed! Make recovery a success so you can play with your son while you still can and make this the last time you rip our hearts out! We are a rare but loyal breed. RnR Hall of Fame, what a joke! Took this long to get inducted and now Hagar’s gonna show but not Roth? What’s the point! Van Halen was only good up to the V Hagar point. Keyboards and lack of good vocals killed them.
Roth has been the only voice of reason during this escapade. Reunion Tour Summer 2007, lets hope!

Schultz | 3/9/2007, 11:51 am EST

Are we gonna get another Some Kind of Monster BS DVD out of this? Showing us how hard it is to be a pampered rock star with everything and then throw it all away being a selfish prick.

I am a VH fan from day one, but Eddie’s antics and verbal diarrhea of late has gone to prove what happens when you are so full of yourself that all you can see is the bottom of a bottle (crack pipe, whatever).

I honestly hope he gets better and realizes the shit he has done and what he has thrown away with his wife and his band mates. Grow up son, take some responsibility and get your shit together. Writing music for pornos ain’t your thing!

Get out of rehab and show all these little kids (in the music biz) how it is done!

Even though I don’t know you personaly Eddie, I know what you have been going through. God knows it took me a half a dozen times to get it right! Use the tools that you already know, and do this for yourself no matter how selfish it might seem, because without your sobriety, you are spititually, mentally and physically bankrupt! It’s recovery or death. Good luck Eddie, our prayers are with you.”ONE DAY AT A TIME”

The thing is,is that I work very hard.I get treated real bad at my job so I can support my family, and run around my living room with my guitars acting like Ed.I do my job,and these guys cannot even show up to except an award,so I can maybe smile when I see them all on stage together.I have been waiting for this for years, and for Ed to pull this shit is beyond me.I have heard all this before.I want him to get better, but man I feel short changed being such a big fan of Van Halen. They should have retired long ago to keep their legacy from being tainted like it has just become.

rivercityrascal | 3/9/2007, 12:02 pm EST

Nello – Odd that the only thing you can talk about is Sammy’s waistline! Seems pretty irrelevant considering everything going on with VH.

DLR4evr – If Sammy and Mike choose to attend the induction, good for them. At least someone will be there. If Dave chooses not to go, that is too bad, but it is his choice.

J Wenner DISSES D L Roth | 3/9/2007, 12:24 pm EST

Van Halen’s road plans have taken a rocky turn

Hey Ed, remember what Stevie Ray Vaughan went through…his upper in the morning was cocain mixed with whiskey in a large glass every morning for a while there. He was on his death bed because of it. He turned around, went straight and was so happy before his untimely death because he went dry and straight! I’m seven years recovering Ed, I know what you are going through, it’s not easy, and forget the one day at a time for now, take it one minute at a time until it gets easier then, take it one day at a time. Something else too, read all of these negative comments about you Ed and then read all of the possitive ones. Learn from the negative comments and “Grow” from the possitive ones. Best of luck to ya Ed and be a good example for Wolfie!

Jeff Reynolds…you are a tosser..Edward is a legend in this lifetime.

Stratoblogster | 3/9/2007, 1:06 pm EST

To put it in perspective, here’s a 52 year old man who has already toured the world many times with well over a dozen albums under his belt. In spite of the personnel situations, VH has no or little history of cancelling gigs, much less tours. So in view of what he’s already accomplished and contributed– and the fact that he owes us nothing. We oughta cut Ed some slack and pick on someone who deserves it– like politicians, media bobbleheads or shrinks.

Some Van Halen fans are the worst. 1978 is 30 years ago. People change, they grow older, their appearance alters. It’s stupid to blame it ALL on substance abuse and simply trash the guy because the tour is postponed. Anyone ever call in sick, ever have personal a problem?

We keep such people on the shelves of our memories like action figures, and take ‘em down once in a while expecting no change and all the original magic at the flick of a switch.

BUT EVEN GUITAR GODS ARE HUMAN…

bugger hasnt doesnt anything noteworthy in 7-8 years and is going to rehab? for what? he’s a male britney. anyway, hope he gets over his addictions.

Skullfreak | 3/9/2007, 1:36 pm EST

I read read a report on TMZ that Eddie in fact died this morning at the age of 52. God rest his soul…

vh5150 | 3/9/2007, 1:37 pm EST

Let me get this straight. 20 new VH songs in 15 years, 12 of those with Gary Cherone and 2 of them for porn soundtracks. And I used to think Boston wasted a lot of time releasing new material. I guess we will have to wait until Ed is dead and buried before we get new material. Sort of like Jimi Hendrix releasing more albums since he’s been dead than he did alive.

ARFF5150 | 3/9/2007, 1:39 pm EST

God Speed Edward!!!
When I saw you on the BALANCE tour, you never looked or sounded better. Come back in your own time, we will be waiting and don’t be so rough on yourself.

Hey, he’s finally entering a rehab! This is great news. I hope he goes through with it and changes his life. I have been saying that he needs this for several years now.

I hope Eddie can find peace. He deserves it.

Jeff Reynolds | 3/9/2007, 1:59 pm EST

I no tosser just a guy stated his point. The is a drunk and thats no excuse. Clean your act up Eddie you are great guitarist but not a great song writer, Jimmy Page and Led Zep have that covered. You drunk SOB!!!

I think while eddie is in rehab go on with a replacement, we should put a wig on my dogs ass and teach him to play guitar with his feet!
no one will know that eddie is gone!

“dam time was not kind to that guy”!

Bucky | 3/9/2007, 2:03 pm EST

vh5150, you may need to do some math. Between 1995 til now 2007, that has been 12 years. Balance has came out, 2 songs on Best of… Van Halen 3, the three for Best of Both Worlds and the two recent for porn. That is definitely more than 20.

GOD SAVE THE KING | 3/9/2007, 2:04 pm EST

God save the KING !!! Good luck Eddie……

Old VH Fan | 3/9/2007, 3:05 pm EST

What a sad day to have it come to this. I’ve seen every tour since the first one in ‘78 opening for Sabbath, and every single show was completely amazing; even VH3 tour was great, as bad as the album was. Then, I had the misfortune of seeing them on the 2004 tour and man, was that a pitiful performance. Drunk as hell, sloppy, Hagar forgetting lyrics all over the place, Eruption a god-awful mess…is rehab the answer? I don’t know. He was supposedly sober around the time of the Cherone album and look how “great” that turned out. I’m afraid their best days may be behind them….but thank God for audio recordings so we can remember what true greatness there was. And let’s hope that the supposed treasure trove of unreleased stuff really exists and is not just another figment of an imagination sadly surrendered to substance abuse.

I hope against hope he gets sober and returns to form. I guess stranger things have happened.

vh5150 | 3/9/2007, 3:07 pm EST

Sorry, I meant the last 12 years. Ok 19 NEW songs in 12 years is still a crock. 12 new ones with Cherone, 2 for Twister, 2 for porn. (which is really EVH solo) 2 for Best of Vol 1. 3 for Best of Both Worlds. Wait a minute, EVH did a song with Rich Wyman in 1996, one for the Legend of 1900 soundtrack in 1999, and don’t forget the Christmas song on Steve Lukather’s Santamental. So 22 total EVH tunes in 12 years. Now do this MATH… The original lineup released 60 songs in 5 years!!!

Eddie Van Halen Is an addict and a very fine musician. Us addicts do what addicts do we drink we drug ve F**k up. If I am not mistaken Ed has someone very close to him in recovery and Ed has us The Fans!! I live in the North Georgia mountains. There is a community of recovery up here Founded by a man named Tom H. Ed, anytime you want to come up here for a visit after you get out of rehab , Your invited. Newt in Montana | 3/9/2007, 4:33 pm EST

C’mon Ed. I know all about the “X” factor. It’s okay to be an alcoholic. It depends on how you want to live life; as a practicing alkie or a sober one. Either way you’ll always be an alkie. Good for you for checking in. Stay sober and maybe “someone” will re-enter your life. Come up to the mountains and get away. You’re always welcome, no strings attached.

Klaatu | 3/9/2007, 4:46 pm EST

What? You don’t need to go to rehab until get caught using ethnic slurs! Everybody knows that.

Mike in Salinas, CA | 3/9/2007, 5:05 pm EST

I’ve always said that if I ever did an album and blew my wad on a collection of tunes, I’d want it to sound as good as the first VH album. That is my all-time fave VH album and as far as I’m concerned everything else pale’s in comparison. That being said……….

Good luck Eddie, I wish you all the best and hope you can finally get yourself straightened out and healthy again.

jon Mellenhead | 3/9/2007, 5:16 pm EST

KungPooRiot | 3/9/2007, 5:33 pm EST

Somehow, I doubt all the “ONE DAY AT A TIME” references are appreciated much by Ed.

bowieno | 3/9/2007, 5:33 pm EST

Eddie is great! But why do celibreties live in Gated communities, complain about politics (while adding no soluitons or bascically walking the walk (cept Bono), and go to Rehab? Celebraties are the New Pussies of the Mellenium!

Steve | 3/9/2007, 5:39 pm EST

Ed, do what ever the “F” you want man, it’s your life. To “H” with all the people that feel they have to judge you. Ed is a genius, and every fan should be thankful for every second of Van Halen that comes through their speakers. Every note you’ve released destroys all the sludge on the radio and MTV for the past 10+ years. Patience is a virtue.

Brent The VHLinks Emperor | 3/9/2007, 6:38 pm EST

That’s right, I am the Emperor of http://www.vhlinks.com — the best Van Hagar fansite on the web.

Our philosophy is that whatever Ed wants to do, we support. We also support Sammy and Mike the Bassplayer, because they’re fun loving and sell tequila and hot sauce. We love Alex, but only because he is Eddie’s brother.

We don’t like Roth. It’s all Roth’s fault.

Ishmael | 3/9/2007, 6:39 pm EST

As for Ed and rehab, if he’s doing it for the right reasons (because he seriously needs help and everyone knows it), more power to him. But if he’s doing it as a convenient way to get irate fans and critics off his back, well, that wouldn’t really suprise me either. But I’ll reserve judgement for at least a few months. In the meantime, I agree with one poster who asked why we couldn’t get some of the classic concerts (the US Festival, in particular) released commercially, so at least we could have something to enjoy while we wait to see what happens next. I mean, if Kiss can do it, why can’t VH?

Van Squalen | 3/9/2007, 6:41 pm EST

I am a Sammy fan straight up. I dig it all — the poodle haircut, the 5150 walk, the lying about record sales, and the brainwashing that Sammy is better than Roth (no really, he is, Sammy said so himself. Come join us at http://www.vhlinks.com

hbmeshell | 3/9/2007, 6:42 pm EST

Been there, done that and it’s the one place they say “keep coming back” and heres hoping you do just that! Timing is a bitch but thats what that stuff will do to you! Won’t be as good as it gets without you at the induction but its good to know you’ll be around longer than most and perhaps we’ll see more of Eddie Van Halen in future, yea? Loved you for many years and still do! Many concerts later, Michelle…take care!

Derek | 3/9/2007, 6:47 pm EST

Amazing how many people who’ve never done a thing with ther own lives lick their chops at the chance to bury a guy who changed the way an entire genration played the guitar.
Yeah, Eddie has some problems ( probably most of them self indused )but I pray that he gets healthy and enjoys life and family again. And if VH were to return to form, that’s a bonus for all of us.
God Bless You Ed.

I once saw a video of David Lee Roth eatin’ a salad on YouTube. That changed my life. That’s when I stopped eating meat and grew my sideburns long. Then, I went down to CVS and bought a Conway Twitty CD on sale for $3.99. When I got it home, I realized the CD was in Spanish. As if that wasn’t enough…someone broke into my apartment and stole my Spiderman costume. Now I speak Spanish fluently, have lost 25 pounds, and I can now go to the post office without having kids ask me to shoot webs out of my wrists. Also, I no longer have the compulsion of staying up until 3 AM just so I can watch the Chuck Norris Total Gym informercial. I’m a lucky man.

Rod | 3/9/2007, 10:40 pm EST

Alan Hale Jr. | 3/9/2007, 11:46 pm EST

What if Van Halen (with Roth) performed a concert and nobody came?

Roth would still probably say, “Look at all the people here tonight!”. And, Michael Anthony would still do his stupid bass solo.

Here’s a list of performers who won’t be at the Rock Hall of Fame ceremony:

Peter Frampton will not attend this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony. He’s protesting Motley Crue’s use of the voice tube on “Kickstart my Heart”.

Paul McCartney will not be attending because Ringo Starr is still alive.

Gene Simmons won’t be attending because he will be working a booth at the Wisconsin “Spring is in the Air” flea market. Gene is selling knock-off NIKE gear.

Leo Sayer will not be in attendance because he feels like dancin’…dancin’

Paul Simon won’t be attending because he’s going to Mel Gibson’s pork free barbecue.

Kansas won’t be in New York because they are in Kansas.

Word is that Diamond Dave is going to pull up in front of the Waldorf in a flatbed truck when Velvet Revolver hits the stage with his new supergroup: Velvet Van der Graf Generator Halen. First song they play is a prog version of “Everybody Wants Some” with Steve Vai trading licks with that shredding Japanese chick from “The Binges”(the hottest rock band in LA-headlining the Grand Ave. Club downtown on Thursday the 15th with some “very special guests” and a bunch of hot models in town for the annual fashion week shows). They even hired some fake cops to “arrest” Dave after 3 songs(cause that’s all they rehearsed). The Van der Graf Halen EP CD will be in stores the next day with a hundred signed copies at the Virgin Megastore.

Dan | 3/10/2007, 9:29 am EST

I’m not a huge VH fan but I’d like to see him get clean for once and reclaim the lost creativity of afore. I have to wonder what Wolfie thinks of seeing his father smashed all the time. From the looks of Ed, if he doesn’t do something about his addictions soon he won’t last another 10 years.

Shellie | 3/10/2007, 10:39 am EST

Is it really true that Ed has pulled a Britney Spears and checked out so soon from rehab? I hope it’s not true, he needs to get healthy and truly get back in the game. As a long time VH fan, it’s hard to reconcile who he is now as to who he was then, and hopefully he can get better.

Just think about people…

bye, bye ed…

lisaashleym | 3/10/2007, 12:16 pm EST

I wish that I knew some other reason for this. Eddie could probably due without the attention. I get the feeling that he would like to oversee his new guitar anyhow. Velvet should let Diamond Dave take the mike. Scott Weiland should know this. Mike and Sam seem to be the most level headed during this unkind time. It is time to bring Van Halen home. I hope Dave shows. This is his night. It may not come around again. Eddie and Alex not being there will make me cry. That much I already know.

Dr. Ralph | 3/10/2007, 12:44 pm EST

Couldn’t Slash have just stood in for Eddie? Eddie, you’ve needed rehab most of your adult life, why now? This whole soap is getting crazier all the time!

tony | 3/10/2007, 12:53 pm EST

MTV needs to a “Behind The Music ” on the V/H brothers—I think ed and alex could screw up a wet dream at this time. It is like the Gun’s & roses saga many years ago.Geez Ed step up and git your $hit together and rock on with Dave.

san hil | 3/10/2007, 1:23 pm EST

None of this will ever iron out. follwing a celebrity thru there trials and tribulations of life sell magazines, fund websites, and support a cable network.

Your never going to get “your” van halen back. its allways going to be something. he has nothing more to prove, why would he? hes financialy stable for the rest of his life. after this point motivation is needed and theres not enough there to satisfy david lee roth or michael anthony or even sammy hagar anymore. cant make excuses for your short comings by aleinating people around you and manufacturing issues that dont exist.

Van Walen! | 3/10/2007, 1:42 pm EST

F all this BS. This is what has to happen. Everyone in VAN HALEN. Show up at the RRHOF and get on stage and F’N rock the house. F all this other BS. Drink a cold one, do a shot smoke a fatty and F’N get up there and rock. That is what Halen was all about anyway. Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll. Did you all forget the 80’s? Pump those F’n fists to the beat and fight your way to the front.

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie!

That’s what it is all about. F all this drama. Get up there and rock.

Jeezuz…just look at the pics of Ed. He’s about 3/4 dead already, and it looks like his teeth/dentures have eroded back into his blue gums. He needs help now or pretty soon he won’t know a six-string from a six-pack…or worse. Eddie’s starting to make Alice look good…and AC got ugly naturally. Good luck Ed…hope it works out for you.

can you see the man just gets horny? thats why he wrote the porno music..

kratos | 3/10/2007, 3:45 pm EST

Maybe Eddie is staying home because he thinks the RRHOF is worthless. A friends and family list for Jann Wenner and his ilk. While VH and countless other bands got passed over year after year, the “Hall” inducted the likes of Del Shannon and other one hit wonders. And I sure don’t remember hearing Grandmaster Flash on my rock and roll radio 25 years ago. Stay home Eddie, don’t grovel at the feet of these tyrants.

VH Frustrated | 3/10/2007, 7:24 pm EST

Used to be the greatest band in the world. Now, with the VH brothers sitting there on their throne deciding who gets to sing and who doesn’t. Brutal. Just another example of spoiled celebrities that could care less about the people, us fans, that made them the icons and millionaires they are today. Even if Dave got to sing, Michael Anthony is out…still not a true VH reunion tour, is it?? Get off the ego, Eddie and Alex, and give the world what they want. I’d love to see a tour with Sammy AND Dave. Rake in all that loot, and retire into the sunset, sending every VH fan home happy!

stonic | 3/10/2007, 11:09 pm EST

Yeah, thanks Ed. Thanks a bunch. What could have been a bright spot in VH’s history after an otherwise forgettable 10 year stretch has now become the darkest. I see all those years of visiting a psychiatrist really helped. Wonder which band member he’ll blame his latest problems on. How ironic if Mike Anthony is the only orig member to show up….

Seriously, how hard is it to make piles of money touring the world doing nothing besides playing a f’n guitar?

Mike | 3/11/2007, 5:51 am EST

The dude is a train wreck. Has alienated his entire band except his brother, added his son for no reason, and hasn’t released an album for a decade. He lost his tongue through cancer, but continued to smoke; apparently got addicted to crystal meth to “cure” it and is now entering rehab for alcohol for the 3rd time. I wish him the best, but I have little hope that he or Van Halen will come out of this.

Ben | 3/11/2007, 6:11 am EST

I can’t understand why people continue bitching at Ed after his statement. Of course the VH fans are disappointed after all that happened during the last 10 years, but can’t you see that this guy is ill and need help? Decide if you did everything right in your life and then start blaming Ed for making his msitakes.

Dr. Ralph | 3/11/2007, 6:38 am EST

Why do all the guitar gods try to kill themselves with drugs? Something about too many fast twitch muscle fibers perhaps? This would make more sense if they all were on heroin like Jimi and Clapton, but Eddie seems to prefer coke crack and meth… hmmm… maybe that’s why he’s still alive.

chris | 3/11/2007, 7:50 am EST

F %&^%#(^% EDDIE BIOTCH!

Dr. Ralph | 3/11/2007, 8:22 am EST

Just put the latest picture of Ed on my background and noticed the burn on his bottom lip. Reminds me of the Coolies song “Crack Pipe”. Seriously, and pay attention because serious comments are few and far between when Dr. Ralph is at the keyboard, this is probably the best thing that could happen to him. He needs to sober up and get his head right so he can tour with his son and brother and make some lasting impressions for the fans and Wolfgang. You are a hero Eddie, and it’s hard work we know. Take care of yourself and remember millions of people love you. There, now I can go back to giving you hell!

Karen S Pittsburgh, PA | 3/11/2007, 8:58 am EST

Dear Mr. Eddie Van Halen,
I can only empathize with your struggles. The following represent a few lines from another poem I wrote recently, which may have some application to your situation:

Don’t be afraid. Step into the light.
Let go of your fear and do what is right.
Don’t be afraid, it will be all right.

Again, peace be with you. Karen

Claus | 3/11/2007, 9:37 am EST

Good luck buddy!

Eddies one fortunate junkie. if the rumors are true. like someone allready mentioned about a girlfriend that they had that was messed up, you can try all you want to get them to get cleaned up, but until they want to clean up themselves it just ‘aint going to happen.

Its when your comin outta somethin that aint nothin that anything looks better than what you had. and right now eddie couldnt tell the difference between day and night because of some pretty obvious reasons and because of some obvious “enablers”.

Can anyone here grasp the life style he comes from? you know they dont exactly advertise where this guy lives on tv or the internet. the “5150 compound” as people like to call it. the tall castle like walls that protect him, the house, various buildings and the building that is the 5150 studios. david lee roth affectionately likes to call it “Howdy doody Mountain” in the same vain that puts michael jacksons estate to shame.

This is for real man, this is the same life and lifestyle that keeps other celebs seperated from the rest of society and human contact with the “common folk” and the only time they can actualy feel compassion themselves towards anyone else is when there in desperate need or when things look horribly bad in there sheltered lives.

I would (and am going to) carefully measure the amount of compassion that is given in a situation like this.

i just read some blog about Boston’s lead singer died…what has that got to do with anything?
He died…EVERYONE DOES.

he was fiftyfive flippan years old.

people die everyday. PLEASE COME OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!

Why are there so many people who foist opinions onto subjects they know NOTHING about.

REHAB IS about life and death..BUT DEATH isn’t some sorry ass occurrence. IT HAPPENS. IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU & YOU & you AND SOMEDAY eDDIE, 2. ou81?

Dr. Ralph | 3/11/2007, 1:48 pm EST

bag,SR.(tot)… he was fifty-five flippin years old? Yeah, that’s a ripe old age to die… if you lived in the Middle Ages! The life expectancy now is 78 and that takes into account a whole lot of idiots who die in their teens. He was 33 years short of 78 and 33 years is a hell of a long time.

My Wish’s Are For You

bag,SR.(tot) | 3/11/2007, 4:04 pm EST

Dr. Ralph, sir… it is nice that you can Statistic an abstract like life.
Beyond the neo-mechanical “suppose to last if taken care of” that your numerical recitation implies, I, for one, do not think life “guZinta” life that way.
Now I am not implying anything close to a calloused heart here.
I am trying to redifine the argument. Such as, it is most important what you do with your time here and not so important the LENGTH of time.
Brad Delp was gifted with many many days of basking in a kind of light that few ever get to witness. And while, yes, it can be construed as “he was ONLY 55…” there are NO gauranteed moments.
Don’t waste ‘em.

yeah eddie bro you can do this and you can beat this everyones with ya bro show em how vh does it best too ya man get out there and rock the rrhof

Dr. Ralph | 3/11/2007, 6:24 pm EST

My mind kind of works on facts and statistics. Sorry… You’re right, there are no guarantees! As far as most rock stars go you are also correct sir. They have had more and better experiences then most mere mortals will ever dream of. Eddie needs to pay attention to your last comment. DON’T WASTE ‘EM!!!!!

Antoine | 3/11/2007, 7:37 pm EST

When VH does make their triumphant return, you know I’ll be there sippin’ on Gin & Juice.

VH Fan? | 3/11/2007, 7:41 pm EST

As a long time VH fan I can accept that the dream tours that we all wish for Dave, Eddie, Alex, Mike or Dave, Eddie, Alex, Mike & Sammy may never happen… but after 23 years I at least thought that we’d see them on stage all together AND perform at the HOF. I am sorry to hear that Eddie is going into rehab…. but the timing is rather ironic. They’d have to know that the HOF induction was a long time coming. It’s not unexpected… and they new for sure that they were being inducted on March 12th for months now. Again, I understand that Eddie has problems but you’d think that they could at least get it together for 2 hours, show up, accept the award and perform. As long as they all are alive and capable of performing they should do it for the fans. Again, I think the timing of this rehab announcement is strange. I hate to say it but I don’t think it’s the real reason that Eddie and Alex are not going. They’ve had months to prepare for this. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Eddie didn’t actually write the current statement on his web site. It’s was probably written by his girl friend… I think this more comes down to money. Everyone knows that the day Dave jams with VH again is a highly anticipated moment… and when it does happen they want to make the most $$ as possible off of it. Sammy wrote a song about Alex and Eddie on his solo album after he left VH. The title would you do it for free? I think we got our answer now!! Can’t Eddie stay sober for 2 hours and do the right thing at the HOF?!?!?

Moochie | 3/11/2007, 8:25 pm EST

Ah, screw it, Eddie.

Enjoy the years you have left and don’t worry about us — we’re able to look after ourselves.

The fat guy in ABBA is a freakin genius!! You gotta love the Conway Twitty CD from CVS.

Fartknocker | 3/12/2007, 12:19 am EST

What a slap in the face to Michael Anthony. It’s bad enough he always looked like “Lumpy” from Leave it to Beaver in all the videos. Now he’s been replaced by the offspring troll known as Wolfgang. What the hell is up with that? It’s pretty obvious the Van Halen “Nazis” only care about themselves as usual. I love both versions of the band but this really confirms all rumours about what a couple dickweeds the Van Nazi’s really are. God that poor Wolgang is one ugly kid.

deano | 3/12/2007, 2:59 am EST

I saw the comment about ” ‘Diver Down’ rules.” Man, those were the days when a band could take four half-ass original songs, add six lame-ass cover versions and two guitar solos and call them “songs,” hastily record an album that barely lasts 30 minutes, and earn the right to play the US Festival for $1.5 million! That’s real rock, folks!

bag,SR.(tot) | 3/12/2007, 7:24 am EST

This Blog is so full of wing-nuts speaking their minds that I can start to understand why RogerWaters spit on that fan in Montreal.
People for some reason think that because they LIKE a certain band, that gives them Carte Blanche to say anything they want.
Call your children ugly names, berate your music, question every molecule of your actual existence. All in the name of that blunt hammer of a demand, “LET’s ROCK.”
Meanwhile they satnd behind the counter at a local PetCo scanning the UPC tag on a used Gerbil and think they are some kind of “expert” because they have a used cassette of “Women and Children” in the gloveBox of their ‘88 Camry.
I truly cannot conceive of the size of the pinhole of light that must be getting through to these people.
Negative Bullsh*t will get you right where you belong.

blake | 3/12/2007, 2:40 pm EST

All I have to say is poor Dave. Why now! This is nothing but an excuse just to f things up once again. What kills most true VH fans is the fact that Anthony is out of the picture. Just when you find out that Roth is back, Anthony is out. It’s the same old crap, over and over. THIS IS DOWNRIGHT SICK !

blake | 3/12/2007, 2:49 pm EST

Just frustrated. I still love ya Eddie.

Dr. Ralph | 3/12/2007, 5:45 pm EST

bag boy sr. or whatever… The constitution gives me the right to say fuck you and Eddie! Not the fact that I have bought all the albums, then replaced them with CD’s and attended VH concerts since 1978! Suck on that and 55 is still too young to die.

Dr. Ralph | 3/12/2007, 5:52 pm EST

WTF! They took my post down replying to the comment about doing unvanhalen stuff so for all you poor souls who missed out here goes… UnVanHalen stuff? Oh, you mean like shooting porn in his mansion and then playing the soundtrack. This from a guy who made Valerie Bertinelli wait to get naked until he met her parents! The teen queen of 1980 is ready, willing and able and Eddie is such a gentleman HE says no… Love you Ed. Get well soon.

An addiction to any substance is hard to go through and kick.I give Ed credit for always admitting his alcohlism and his lifelong struggle to beat it.Many other people use rehab as a publicist tool, but he just wants to get himself clean. He made this statement to apoligize to his fans and show us he does respect us as much as we respect him.I just want to wish him well and God bless him and his family.

daryl | 3/13/2007, 1:12 am EST

you know something all you assholes who are dissing eddie for finally admitting he is helpless too do anything about the alcoholism by himself obviously have never had too doeal with an addiction yourselves …i mean he’s already lost the 1 true love of his life because he couldn’t stay sober ,hell i 4 one am really glad he’s taking this step not only for himself and wolfie but for ALL of us true fans who love the guy for what he has meant too the MANY MANY people his music has helped through some very tough times of their own and wtf we’ve waited this long i’m pretty sure we can all wait just a lil longer if it means we’ll have the genius that is EVH back and rocking harder than ever i do believe though that as much as we would like too see a reunion w/diamond dave it would not be in the best of ED or the fans in the long run D.D.’S EGO HAS ALWAYS BEEN way BIGGER THAN HIS ACTUAL TALENT I MEAN HE’S A VEGAS ACT for petes sake…Lets hope that like sammy said at the induction ceremony .when ed comes out “we” all get our friend back and the world can hear the real VH back together and rockin the way they should…hell bring mikey and wolfie on tour together and let em trade off..looking forward too some hot summer nights & the tour that will blow everyone away

WallofVudu | 3/13/2007, 11:37 pm EST

It’s a shame the boys just couldn’t get together for this moment. All those years of hard work with both Sam and Dave, truly deserved to be recognized. John Lennon put it best, “…we were just a garage band, that made it big,… you can still buy the records if you want to hear the Beatles.” I agree with John Lennon on this one, the best days of Van Halen are all in the past. It happens to all the great bands, I’m just glad I was able to see them and be part of the mania from 1982 until 1996. That is an eternity of a career these days. I saw VH twice with Dave and 6 times with Sammy. I prefer the Sammy days, due to Dave being to F’d up to remember the songs.
Get well Ed, Mike and Sammy great job on the speeches, consumate professionals in Mike and Sammy. What was up with Velvet Revolver? Ok, Slash put his little signature on the Eddie riffs (Cool), but Weiland was just cracking me up with his Iggy Pop impersonations (not Cool)!

spiff | 3/14/2007, 8:14 pm EST

yeah it was cheesy. velvet revolver (VR) with slash opening up with those first guitar strokes messed up a little but that was probably due to nervousness. cant really blame the performance on them the whole night was a hodge podge of inductees. everybody cramming there little party and jam session in between each other’s performances and all. just hope ed can afford what was said from sammy. mikes comments were allright, but sammy hung on to them comments a bit much if you ask me and i dont think i would be all that happy myself if i were ed. hey i (ed) made it public, just dont nobody else milk them words for more than whats allready been said. some stuff needs to remain private.

Eddie Van Halen Reportedly Faking Rehab To Avoid Tour with David Lee Roth
Mar 9th 2007 6:11PM | Filed under: U.S. News, Celebrities, Weird

Sources close to Eddie Van Halen reported that the rock guitarist is pretending to enter rehab in order to get out of touring with David Lee Roth. “It has nothing to do with drugs or alcohol,” said Halen’s ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli. “He just can’t stand Diamond Dave’s antics.” Van Halen has been telling friends that he couldn’t bear seeing the ridiculous pelvis-thrust dance Roth always performed at the end of their hit, “Panama.” David Lee Roth was quick to respond to the rumor, saying, “Bop, bowzee bowzee bop, zitty bop!”

5100 | 3/20/2007, 1:26 pm EST

Sammy Still Talks With Van Halen

Following their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Sammy Hagar revealed that he had talked with Alex Van Halen just days before. The drummer had called Hagar to express his and Eddie Van Halen’s condolences upon the death of Hagar’s mother. Hagar further revealed that Eddie wasn’t able to be on the phone because his rehab facility doesn’t allow it. Hagar says he was grateful for the call and adds that he did the same thing a couple of years ago when the brothers’ mother died.

Click here to hear Sammy talk about speaking with Alex

Favorite Rothism: There are a lot of people who make a living off of my name. The only interesting thing about Van Halen, after the music stops, is me. It’s not that I do so much, it’s that they do so goddamn little! – DLR 1997

D. L. ROTH | 3/20/2007, 7:01 pm EST

Dear Sammy Hagar: Shut up before I come over there and kick your nuts so hard they dislodge your tonsils into where your eyeballs used to be right before I grabbed your mother’s dildo out of your father’s ass and used it to poke your brain out through the back of your gimp cranium.

Sammy rooming with Ed..... | 3/20/2007, 7:08 pm EST

So how does a man who still can’t drive 55 relax? It’s quite evident from the album’s hidden track “Maui Wowie,” that Sammy likes to relax with a green friend. The infectious instrumental ukulele riff is preceded by a flick of a lighter, inhalation and a slight cough. “I live part of the year in Maui and when I first get there I get my ukulele, roll a fat one take off all of my clothes and look out over the ocean.” He adds, “That centers me.”……Sounds like someone else might be heading to rehab!!

Dr. Ralph | 3/21/2007, 8:48 am EST

Sammy rooming with Ed… Are you stupid or something? Marijuana is being studied to treat other addictions because although psychologically addictive it is not physically addictive. The lesser of two evils one might add, and it curtails the yearning for that next drink, hit of caine, or Loritab… Do a little research and try to find anyone who has ever gone to rehab for pot. Hell half the NBA smokes and they are possibly the worlds finest physical specimens.

Ed, If it weren’t for my history of rock n’ roll dvd set that showed you playing “Eruption” in the 1991 tour I probably would have never heard Van Halen. I am a true fan of you, i play drums and guitar. I’ve been waiting to see a Van Halen concert for so long, i have the two concert DVDs and their great but, you can’t experience it as good as being at a live concert. Hagar or Roth or any singer for that matter, it’s not about the words of a song, it’s about the power and sound of it. You and alex bring that alive. All i’m askin’ is, get well, get out, and give your sound to the crowd, ’cause we all love it.
Sincerely,
Brooks

Dr. Ralph | 3/25/2007, 7:15 pm EST

Sorry for you Ganja Man and good point but the two of you should have stopped when you were a few bricks shy of a load. Nonstop abuse of the frontal lobe does have a deleterious effect, not that either of you would notice of course. Brain cells can and do grow back, but at a much slower pace then the average American male can destroy them. Choose your poisons wisely…

Jimbo | 3/26/2007, 7:10 pm EST

I have listened to this band play rock and roll and have been a huge fan for more than 28 years. All bands go through their ups and downs. But man, wouldn’t it just be incredible for the original members to get together and play the music that made them what they are. I hope Ed gets the help he needs and I hope the rest of the band can just be there for him.

news??? | 3/27/2007, 3:52 pm EST

Has anyone heard anything new?All of a sudden all news dried up.Is Dave still in?How long is Ed in rehab for?All these goings on…..then….nothing.

5100 | 3/29/2007, 12:21 am EST

Dave will allways still be “in” if it adds up to a pay check. if ed’s commited to cleaning himself up it will be a while before we see or hear anything about him and the band of course. look at about 8 months minimum, to about a year.. (if he’s as junked up as i have heard) this sh$t doesnt go away that easy.

EVH5150 | 3/29/2007, 12:29 pm EST

I see him doing what he did before.out in 45 days or less.thats what has happened in the past.

Dr. Ralph | 3/29/2007, 1:33 pm EST

Month and a half, two months tops. Who can stay straight longer than that anyways? Damn sure not a world class guitarist. Ask Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoads, Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Slash, Joe Walsh etc… or ask the ones that are alive. Just long enough to clean out the system and temporarily regain motor functions then boom hit the road.

Alice | 3/30/2007, 6:28 am EST

I think he was giving eddie the benefit of the doubt. sure if he wasnt commited to change his life anyone would get cold feet and bail out for there crutches in life. some on here talk in different patterns, some give encouragement and then a few posts later they doubt the very thing that the man is trying do for himself. here and on other VH RS message boards i see a lot of the same names talking differently.

Dr. Ralph | 3/30/2007, 9:37 pm EST

It’s like coming home and kicking the dog. Had a bad day on the course? Eddie’s an asshole. Shot a 79? We’re all pulling for you buddy.

At The Gate | 3/31/2007, 11:16 am EST

Reports from inside sources(paparazzi staked out at entrance to 5150)report that Edward Van Halen, along with his brother alex, entering and exiting the “compound”.There has also been a valerie sighting at “5150″.So….still believing the rehab thing?

PARedHead | 4/3/2007, 1:20 am EST

Eddie after rehab you think you might figure out that DLR is a Jerk? I Think with Sammy Hagars Redhead Fanbase a VH tour again would be great! 2004 you were just too drunk too enjoy! And Wolfie on Base……..Hello?? I can see a song or so…But a whole tour?? Please bring back Michael Anthony! It’s Love when you are all together! Best of luck with with rehab Ed.

Keith Richards | 4/4/2007, 10:25 am EST

C’mon mate, been nearly a month!!!I just go in have the old blood filtered, right as rain in a few days.I’ve got over ten years on ya,kid,I’m still goin’.Quit makin excuses ,pull yourself up by the bootstraps, and get out there and do what you were put on this earth to do.your son’ll love you no matter what ya do.

Dr. Ralph | 4/5/2007, 6:45 pm EST

Hell yeah! Valerie is admitting she’s a fat ass… I think we already knew sweet cheeks. But the upside is she and Ed can do it together. Nothing like group rehab! I give up the Smoking Loon and stem, and you give up the Twinkies! You two motherfuckers could still be the hottest couple on earth!! Eddie goes straight, writes some killerfuckinass music and Val gets that old everyone has wet dreams about me look and viola! Cover of every magazine in America and beyond. Again!

5150 | 4/6/2007, 10:38 am EST

Get well Eddie. You are still the greatest guitar player!!

EDDIE VAN HALEN’s Son WOLFGANG: ‘I’m Too Young’ To Tour With VAN HALEN – Apr. 7, 2007

Wolfgang Van Halen, the 16-year-old son of VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen and the projected replacement for VH bassist Michael Anthony, has told People magazine that he isn’t disappointed there will be no VAN HALEN tour this summer following his father’s decision to check himself into rehab. “My dad’s taking care of himself,” he said. “I also think I’m too young for the experience, because I know there are a lot of bad things out there.”

Looks like Val laid down the law,it’s good to have a strong women around making proper decisions at our moments of weakness.Maybe we’ll get “Hotsauce” Mikey back.Dave’s in My Guest house,He and Al have been working together trying to keep thing moving.Old wounds are healing,we’ll see.

An old Val interview | 4/9/2007, 12:37 pm EST

DB: Was David Lee Roth jealous that Ed had found himself a famous girlfriend?

VB: I think he was jealous that Ed had fallen in love and was happy. I feel Dave tended to keep Ed in a miserable place and liked him there because he could control him that way. But when Ed became happy and more independent, Dave couldn’t control him anymore. Dave likes control.

DB: Do you dislike him more than Ed does?

VB: Yes. Ed has a bigger heart than I do. I won’t forgive Dave for what he did to the man I love. Ed will. I like revenge, Ed doesn’t. It might’ve sounded that way when they first broke up, because Ed was really hurt. That man just took everything away from him.

DB: What about Dave’s charges that Ed does a lot of drugs and drinks too much?

VB: The man should start looking in the mirror. I do think Ed smokes too many cigarettes, and he does drink too much sometimes.

Frankie | 4/25/2007, 8:43 pm EST

Come on Eddie Van Halen, start having
fun again and get David Lee Roth back in
the band! Those classic VH songs should
be performed live again instead of you just
sitting on your behind crying about what
hurts and how you can’t control your
booze intake! Come on dude, get a life!

EDDIE — YOU LOOK GREAT!!!! LOVE THE HAIR AND YOU FILLED OUT MORE!! KEEP YOUR SOBRIETY FIRST AND FOREMOST!

The question is: But, on the inside…How about The EVH´s mind?…

If he is really healthy, sober and happy, he´ll be back with the band (with Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth)… ;)

AND A “REALLY NEW” ALBUM, with REALLY NEW” SONGS…!!!

We´re all waiting and praying for this…for your healty…for your happiness…and your music, Eddie!!

Get well soon, Man!!

Still can’t believe that EVH is sobber now after 1 month and can show up to the NSCAR thing on 04/23/07 but couldn’t make it to the HOF… Maybe he did go into rehab but why wait until days before the HOF to do it? It’s like knowing your 50th B-day party is coming and then deciding to go into rehab. I think this just proves that the rehab thing was just an excuse to not show up to the HOF. Eddie only shows up when he’s going to make some $$. Like the song Sammy wrote on his first solo album after leaving VH says “would you do it for free”? We know the answer from EVH – Fuck NO!

Dr. Ralph | 5/2/2007, 7:19 pm EST

You look like a guitar god once again Ed! Your picture from Phoenix is on my background and Val is on my TV with the fat Cheers chick. Take baby steps and you’ll be standing on top of the world my friend! Just give it all you’ve got…

No Wonder ... | 5/8/2007, 8:45 am EST

there’s so much drama in the Van Halen house and band. Here’s the deal-NO ONE can get you clean Ed but you. You want a life, any good life, you have to earn it. Just like the rest of us. You choose drugs, you die. It’s that simple. Do yourself a favor Ed, sit down and write a letter to Wolfie and Val as if you were already six feet under. And explain to them your reckless behavior that you STILL struggle to take responsibility for has left them without you. See how that feels. And then tell them how you should have fixed it when You Were Alive!

I can and will support your recovery but being a dry drunk doesn’t count. You have to CHOOSE to be clean Every Day Eddie. It’s not a Pick-a-Week-a-Month game that you get to work the program. Who are you kidding? And BTW, when I first saw your recent photo looking like you’re one foot in the ground, you reminded me of someone … my brother… who’s now dead from Crystal Meth! Get a Clue Ed; Clocks Ticking.

Oh, and Val, she earned every one of those pounds. Look at what she went through with you! The saving grace for her is she’s trying to be healthy.

Lastly, you Ed are NOT your job. You’re still the best fricking guitar player in the world, but you’re still an addict. That only changes … with you. Time to choose. God Bless You, Val, Wolfie, the band and everyone close to you. May you ALL can begin to heal from this pain.

Get Recovery Ed – Choose Life!!! Love, D

Eddie,

Just wanted to let you know that I started listening to you in the 70’s and I have loved you every since. You will never know how much your music means to me. It helped me through some tuff times in my life. I believe that you were born to play music. That is why it comes so natural to you. That is why I have heard you say that you don’t think about it it just comes to you. That is your destiny and believe me there are some people I can’t say that about. haha. I just wanted to say that you have been through some hard times and I am not here to beat you up and to make you feel any worse than you already do. I just want you to know you are in my prayers and I pray that GOD will give you the strength to do what you need to do to take care of yourself. WE LOVE YOU & SUPPORT YOU AND LOOK FOWARD TO SEEING YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!!!!

love,

ll c

ed:

Just a Human, Being | 6/14/2007, 3:02 pm EST

Y’know…the more I read these comments, the more I realize- first, all of the posters on here who slag Ed, Sam, Dave…hell, even poor Wolfie’s getting it…and his only issue is that he’s Ed’s son….Geez, people- I know that there have been a LOT of issues with this band, but they’ve been ongoing (since at least ‘76- when they STARTED!), but leave his family out of it. Val and Wolfie have nothing to do with this. If you’re pissed at Ed, then be pissed at Ed- don’t take it out on his family. Insofar as his rehab is concerned, well, it doesn’t matter if he succeeds this time- he only has to succeed the NEXT time…or the time after that- as many times as it takes before he wins.
Oh, and by the way- for all of you who call him a “has-been”….I don’t see YOUR name on any albums, tours…hell, not even in this forum being praised or slagged…I’d rather be a “has-been” than like you fools….”the NEVER-WAS” crew….

Ed: Get better. Stay better. My prayers are with you, Val, Wolfie and Alex. Peace.

howdy doody resident | 6/15/2007, 12:10 am EST

Hey “Just a Human, Being” its just people blowin off steam over this whole fiasco. rolling stone has about 5 other articles out on this subject that you could search for, some are worse (and crazier) than this (though this one does appear to be a more serious one) we had a blast either blasting ed or his life style, most of it in good fun as evidenced by the amount of total BS in there post’s. some of it funny, some if it down right bizarre (and still funny) hell even some of the made up poster’s name’s were funny as hell.

Dr. Ralph | 6/17/2007, 4:15 pm EST

Sorry human being, but if you get the big bucks for having the spotlight turned on you, then expect it to keep shining when you fuck up. As far as leaving the family out of it Ed is the one who dumped MA and brought Wolfie out in the spotlight… and Val has been there since she was fifteen too! In fact she’s so lonely out of the news she’s showing what a fatass she’s become just to get back in that spotlight. Go save a fucking whale.

Eddie,

I grew up listening to the incredible sound you create from your custom made Fenders. The Talent God gave you always sounded incredible. I saw you live many times, and enjoyed every event. Long term your healing will come from Christ if you let him. Join the real band that goes on forever without end. I pray for your peace:) God bless you Eddie, and thank you for sharing your music over the years. It is incredible!

Trish in San Antonio | 8/4/2008, 9:51 pm EST

Reading all these comments, none of you really understands what it’s like to give out of your heart with your music, your talent, then have the same situations we all go through but do it in a fish bowl, damn dudes, cut them all a break and for once step in his shoes just once, see if you could be so strong to admit you need help and have everyone bust your chops for it. You really don’t how that feels having everyone expecting you to be perfect and when you’re not then they throw shit at your face. Having people love what’s inside of you when you create music only to have them shove you to the dogs when you get sick and that is what he is, just as if he had a serious disease it’s the same thing and we all should be supporting him instead of shitting on him.
Eddie, no matter you do this rehab for you everyone else can go to hell for all I am concerned they don’t deserve your talent.

Sara | 12/30/2008, 3:29 pm EST

Valerie Waited To Leave Eddie Van Halen When He Got Sick And Needed Her The Most!!!Why Leave Him When He Needed You To Be By His Side?….Dang Thats F/up…

St Louis, MO fan | 1/8/2009, 11:37 pm EST

EVH,
Proud of you pal! Hindsight is often 20/20 and it looks like you’ve been successful so far in running your own race. Years ago I read how much you loved your parents and it’s touching how much love you have for your son. Coming from an addictive household myself it’s admirable to me how much love you share with your blood relatives. We all have our talents and our challenges. Never let ANYONE crush the good parts of your spirit that God blessed you with. Keep up the strong parts of yourself and accept the things you can’t right?

Eric Schweig | 4/8/2009, 5:51 am EST

There’s no more danger in Rock n’ Roll anymore so at least give us the illusion there is by keeping your countless rehab stints and personal problems to yourself Eddy!

Bones | 4/17/2009, 2:45 pm EST

Wow, Eric, that’s the pot calling the kettle black. Don’t want to hear about his personal life? Then don’t read about it.
