Reading all these comments, none of you really understands what it’s like to give out of your heart with your music, your talent, then have the same situations we all go through but do it in a fish bowl, damn dudes, cut them all a break and for once step in his shoes just once, see if you could be so strong to admit you need help and have everyone bust your chops for it. Hey “Just a Human, Being” its just people blowin off steam over this whole fiasco. rolling stone has about 5 other articles out on this subject that you could search for, some are worse (and crazier) than this (though this one does appear to be a more serious one) we had a blast either blasting ed or his life style, most of it in good fun as evidenced by the amount of total BS in there post’s. some of it funny, some if it down right bizarre (and still funny) hell even some of the made up poster’s name’s were funny as hell.

Y’know…the more I read these comments, the more I realize- first, all of the posters on here who slag Ed, Sam, Dave…hell, even poor Wolfie’s getting it…and his only issue is that he’s Ed’s son….Geez, people- I know that there have been a LOT of issues with this band, but they’ve been ongoing (since at least ‘76- when they STARTED!), but leave his family out of it. And explain to them your reckless behavior that you STILL struggle to take responsibility for has left them without you. See how that feels. Still can’t believe that EVH is sobber now after 1 month and can show up to the NSCAR thing on 04/23/07 but couldn’t make it to the HOF… Maybe he did go into rehab but why wait until days before the HOF to do it? It’s like knowing your 50th B-day party is coming and then deciding to go into rehab. I think this just proves that the rehab thing was just an excuse to not show up to the HOF. Eddie only shows up when he’s going to make some $$. Like the song Sammy wrote on his first solo album after leaving VH says “would you do it for free”? We know the answer from EVH - Fuck NO!

Just long enough to clean out the system and temporarily regain motor functions then boom hit the road.

I have listened to this band play rock and roll and have been a huge fan for more than 28 years. All bands go through their ups and downs. But man, wouldn’t it just be incredible for the original members to get together and play the music that made them what they are. I hope Ed gets the help he needs and I hope the rest of the band can just be there for him.

Sorry for you Ganja Man and good point but the two of you should have stopped when you were a few bricks shy of a load. Nonstop abuse of the frontal lobe does have a deleterious effect, not that either of you would notice of course. Ed, If it weren’t for my history of rock n’ roll dvd set that showed you playing “Eruption” in the 1991 tour I probably would have never heard Van Halen. I am a true fan of you, i play drums and guitar. I’ve been waiting to see a Van Halen concert for so long, i have the two concert DVDs and their great but, you can’t experience it as good as being at a live concert. Hagar or Roth or any singer for that matter, it’s not about the words of a song, it’s about the power and sound of it. You and alex bring that alive. All i’m askin’ is, get well, get out, and give your sound to the crowd, ’cause we all love it.

Following their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Sammy Hagar revealed that he had talked with Alex Van Halen just days before. The drummer had called Hagar to express his and Eddie Van Halen’s condolences upon the death of Hagar’s mother. Hagar further revealed that Eddie wasn’t able to be on the phone because his rehab facility doesn’t allow it. yeah it was cheesy. velvet revolver (VR) with slash opening up with those first guitar strokes messed up a little but that was probably due to nervousness. cant really blame the performance on them the whole night was a hodge podge of inductees. everybody cramming there little party and jam session in between each other’s performances and all. just hope ed can afford what was said from sammy. mikes comments were allright, but sammy hung on to them comments a bit much if you ask me and i dont think i would be all that happy myself if i were ed. hey i (ed) made it public, just dont nobody else milk them words for more than whats allready been said. some stuff needs to remain private.

It’s a shame the boys just couldn’t get together for this moment. All those years of hard work with both Sam and Dave, truly deserved to be recognized. John Lennon put it best, “…we were just a garage band, that made it big,… you can still buy the records if you want to hear the Beatles.” I agree with John Lennon on this one, the best days of Van Halen are all in the past. It happens to all the great bands, I’m just glad I was able to see them and be part of the mania from 1982 until 1996. That is an eternity of a career these days. I saw VH twice with Dave and 6 times with Sammy. I prefer the Sammy days, due to Dave being to F’d up to remember the songs.

As a long time VH fan I can accept that the dream tours that we all wish for Dave, Eddie, Alex, Mike or Dave, Eddie, Alex, Mike & Sammy may never happen… but after 23 years I at least thought that we’d see them on stage all together AND perform at the HOF. I am sorry to hear that Eddie is going into rehab…. but the timing is rather ironic. They’d have to know that the HOF induction was a long time coming. It’s not unexpected… and they new for sure that they were being inducted on March 12th for months now. Again, I understand that Eddie has problems but you’d think that they could at least get it together for 2 hours, show up, accept the award and perform. As long as they all are alive and capable of performing they should do it for the fans. Again, I think the timing of this rehab announcement is strange. I hate to say it but I don’t think it’s the real reason that Eddie and Alex are not going. They’ve had months to prepare for this. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Eddie didn’t actually write the current statement on his web site. It’s was probably written by his girl friend… I think this more comes down to money. Everyone knows that the day Dave jams with VH again is a highly anticipated moment… and when it does happen they want to make the most $$ as possible off of it. Sammy wrote a song about Alex and Eddie on his solo album after he left VH. The title would you do it for free? I think we got our answer now!! Can’t Eddie stay sober for 2 hours and do the right thing at the HOF?!?!?

Eddies one fortunate junkie. if the rumors are true. like someone allready mentioned about a girlfriend that they had that was messed up, you can try all you want to get them to get cleaned up, but until they want to clean up themselves it just ‘aint going to happen.

Its when your comin outta somethin that aint nothin that anything looks better than what you had. and right now eddie couldnt tell the difference between day and night because of some pretty obvious reasons and because of some obvious “enablers”.

Can anyone here grasp the life style he comes from? you know they dont exactly advertise where this guy lives on tv or the internet. the “5150 compound” as people like to call it. the tall castle like walls that protect him, the house, various buildings and the building that is the 5150 studios. david lee roth affectionately likes to call it “Howdy doody Mountain” in the same vain that puts michael jacksons estate to shame.

This is for real man, this is the same life and lifestyle that keeps other celebs seperated from the rest of society and human contact with the “common folk” and the only time they can actualy feel compassion themselves towards anyone else is when there in desperate need or when things look horribly bad in there sheltered lives.

I would (and am going to) carefully measure the amount of compassion that is given in a situation like this.

Why do all the guitar gods try to kill themselves with drugs? Something about too many fast twitch muscle fibers perhaps? This would make more sense if they all were on heroin like Jimi and Clapton, but Eddie seems to prefer coke crack and meth… hmmm… maybe that’s why he’s still alive.

I can’t understand why people continue bitching at Ed after his statement. Of course the VH fans are disappointed after all that happened during the last 10 years, but can’t you see that this guy is ill and need help? The dude is a train wreck. Has alienated his entire band except his brother, added his son for no reason, and hasn’t released an album for a decade. He lost his tongue through cancer, but continued to smoke; apparently got addicted to crystal meth to “cure” it and is now entering rehab for alcohol for the 3rd time. I saw VH in concert back in 04′. Eddie showed up drunk in urine stained combat pants. It was great!!!

He was swigging red wine from a Gatorade bottle. He looked like he weighed about 130 lbs. But, he rocked!!!

Maybe Eddie is staying home because he thinks the RRHOF is worthless. A friends and family list for Jann Wenner and his ilk. While VH and countless other bands got passed over year after year, the “Hall” inducted the likes of Del Shannon and other one hit wonders. Is it really true that Ed has pulled a Britney Spears and checked out so soon from rehab? I hope it’s not true, he needs to get healthy and truly get back in the game. As a long time VH fan, it’s hard to reconcile who he is now as to who he was then, and hopefully he can get better.

I’m not a huge VH fan but I’d like to see him get clean for once and reclaim the lost creativity of afore. I have to wonder what Wolfie thinks of seeing his father smashed all the time. From the looks of Ed, if he doesn’t do something about his addictions soon he won’t last another 10 years.

Word is that Diamond Dave is going to pull up in front of the Waldorf in a flatbed truck when Velvet Revolver hits the stage with his new supergroup: Velvet Van der Graf Generator Halen. First song they play is a prog version of “Everybody Wants Some” with Steve Vai trading licks with that shredding Japanese chick from “The Binges”(the hottest rock band in LA-headlining the Grand Ave. Club downtown on Thursday the 15th with some “very special guests” and a bunch of hot models in town for the annual fashion week shows). They even hired some fake cops to “arrest” Dave after 3 songs(cause that’s all they rehearsed). The Van der Graf Halen EP CD will be in stores the next day with a hundred signed copies at the Virgin Megastore.

Theres info slowly leaking out that he may have allready left rehab! oh-man what a mess for every one in concern including himself. no this is not a joke/scam post!

Then, I went down to CVS and bought a Conway Twitty CD on sale for $3.99. When I got it home, I realized the CD was in Spanish. As if that wasn’t enough…someone broke into my apartment and stole my Spiderman costume. Now I speak Spanish fluently, have lost 25 pounds, and I can now go to the post office without having kids ask me to shoot webs out of my wrists. Also, I no longer have the compulsion of staying up until 3 AM just so I can watch the Chuck Norris Total Gym informercial. I’m a lucky man.

Ed, do what ever the “F” you want man, it’s your life. To “H” with all the people that feel they have to judge you. Ed is a genius, and every fan should be thankful for every second of Van Halen that comes through their speakers. Every note you’ve released destroys all the sludge on the radio and MTV for the past 10+ years. Patience is a virtue.

I’ve always said that if I ever did an album and blew my wad on a collection of tunes, I’d want it to sound as good as the first VH album. That is my all-time fave VH album and as far as I’m concerned everything else pale’s in comparison. That being said……….

Eddie Van Halen Is an addict and a very fine musician. Us addicts do what addicts do we drink we drug ve F**k up. If I am not mistaken Ed has someone very close to him in recovery and Ed has us The Fans!! I live in the North Georgia mountains. There is a community of recovery up here Founded by a man named Tom H. Ed, anytime you want to come up here for a visit after you get out of rehab , Your invited. Remember Ed ” To thine own self be true”.

Sorry, I meant the last 12 years. Ok 19 NEW songs in 12 years is still a crock. 12 new ones with Cherone, 2 for Twister, 2 for porn. (which is really EVH solo) 2 for Best of Vol 1. 3 for Best of Both Worlds. Wait a minute, EVH did a song with Rich Wyman in 1996, one for the Legend of 1900 soundtrack in 1999, and don’t forget the Christmas song on Steve Lukather’s Santamental.So 22 total EVH tunes in 12 years. Now do this MATH… The original lineup released 60 songs in 5 years!!!

What a sad day to have it come to this. I’ve seen every tour since the first one in ‘78 opening for Sabbath, and every single show was completely amazing; even VH3 tour was great, as bad as the album was. Then, I had the misfortune of seeing them on the 2004 tour and man, was that a pitiful performance. Drunk as hell, sloppy, Hagar forgetting lyrics all over the place, Eruption a god-awful mess…is rehab the answer? I don’t know. He was supposedly sober around the time of the Cherone album and look how “great” that turned out. I’m afraid their best days may be behind them….but thank God for audio recordings so we can remember what true greatness there was. And let’s hope that the supposed treasure trove of unreleased stuff really exists and is not just another figment of an imagination sadly surrendered to substance abuse.

I hope against hope he gets sober and returns to form. I guess stranger things have happened.

vh5150, you may need to do some math. Between 1995 til now 2007, that has been 12 years. Balance has came out, 2 songs on Best of… Van Halen 3, the three for Best of Both Worlds and the two recent for porn. That is definitely more than 20.

I think while eddie is in rehab go on with a replacement, we should put a wig on my dogs ass and teach him to play guitar with his feet!

Hey, he’s finally entering a rehab! This is great news. I hope he goes through with it and changes his life. I have been saying that he needs this for several years now.
