Do You Have Two Ears and a Heart? Genesis Reunion Tour!

3/7/07, 4:04 pm EST

Genesis announced dates for their first North American tour in fifteen years at a press conference in midtown New York today. The thirteen-date trek kicks off September 7th at BMO field in Toronto, Ontario. Other notable stops include New Jersey’s Giants Stadium on September 27th and L.A.’s Hollywood Bowl on October 12th. Phil Collins will be fronting the group this time around, but he says a reunion of the Peter Gabriel line-up is not out of the question.

“We’ve been talking for a long time about the possibility of doing The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in it’s entirety, with Peter [Gabriel] and Steve [Hackett],” Collins said at the press conference. “We finally got together a couple of years ago in Scotland when I was on tour. We discussed it — the five of us — and it didn’t look like Peter could commit himself at that point because he had an album to finish and a tour to go behind that album, which is still not out. So, as he and Steve left the room, we looked at each other and said ‘Do you fancy doing this?’ It was all so easy. I don’t want it to appear, like it has been appearing, that this is a party that we’re holding that Peter didn’t come to. This is a separate thing. That Lamb thing may happen in a few years time. It’s not a no, it’s not a yes.”

Here’s hoping for Genesis with Peter Gabriel at Coachella 2009! Tour dates after the jump.

Concert Cds | 10/16/2007, 8:43 am EST

pappap999 You are not wrong. They announced in Cleveland that there would be a cd of that night’s concert. My brother already has his from the Manchester UK concert but I am having a hard time finding the cd online. Let me know if and where you find it. Cheers

Ticket Prices | 10/16/2007, 8:33 am EST

The high cost is not the fault of the band…Brokers buy them out at face value and then resell them at high prices, I mean Spice Girl tickets,,,front row $21,000 are you kidding me! Hanna Montana tickets have all been bought out by brokers and are now being resold at high prices too. I don;t really think Genesis did it for the money but I think that all bands need to take more responsibility about how their tickets are distributed. Many times the true fans just can’t afford to pay the high prices for the tickets. Me I paid $440 for 2 tickets but then I had to buy 2 flights to Cleveland and a hotel room. I figures this was a once in a lifetime event for me as I am a huge fan who first saw them at Knebworth in 1978 and have seen them many times since. I felt cheated when they drifted apart without a “final Concert”
The concert was fantastic! I enjoyed every minute but I probably won’t do it again at those prices!

pappap999 | 9/10/2007, 7:45 pm EST

was I mistaken or did genesis make an announcement that copies of the shows were up for sale when the shows were over?

dalihendrix | 9/8/2007, 1:42 am EST

just a beatle brain band pleasing beatle brains.

craig | 8/12/2007, 11:27 am EST

Has anyone seen the playlist yet?
I’m going to the San Jose show in October. PLease tell me their playing some of the older stuff…

Pressman | 6/9/2007, 2:07 am EST

I’d way rather see a copy band like Musical Box than watch the yuppie mellow rock of the Phil Collins band. a real re-union playing the Lamb would be great but I hope they dye their hair or Phil and Peter wear long hair wigs.

They should come to Houston and Dallas…with or without PG and SH…

MAS | 3/19/2007, 8:40 am EST

I’ll wait for the DVD.

Ghost Wheel | 3/15/2007, 7:38 pm EST

Hey all you economic geniuses. They have to cover their costs for the shows - and with these few dates the prices are going to be high. If you can’t afford to go - get a better job. Me? I’ll be there front row and center.

Ross | 3/9/2007, 12:50 am EST

There isnt a band out there past or present that delivers a live show - musically AND visually - as good as Genesis. I hear the lighting/stage production/visual effects for this tour will be awesome. Sure the tickets are a little pricey but I look at it this way - I havent spent a dime to see them in 15 years so its worth every penny. (2 floor tickets middle/center @ Hartford Civic Center - $420)

And Peter G?? Wouldve been nice to see them together but no big deal. Genesis’ best stuff was from ‘76 to ‘83 anyway.

Steve Howe Fan | 3/8/2007, 4:43 pm EST

Think I’ll wait for the set list to appear somewhere first, than pay through the nose if it’s worth it. Los Endos or Wot Gorilla, either will make it worth it. I guess not to expect any Gabriel stuff. Not paying one dime to see any later years Phil stuff.

…Ugly

Aren’t “reunion tours” for the fans who stuck with you, through the thick and thin?

I expexted better from you guys.

Larry | 3/8/2007, 12:40 pm EST

I love Gabriel era Genesis too, but Tony Banks is the musical heart and soul of the band in my book. I’ll be there.

thor | 3/8/2007, 11:10 am EST

is steve hackett in this time?

Lou | 3/8/2007, 10:38 am EST

Wanna hear a good one?I joined the GENESIS FAn Club for 35.00 just to have the priveledge of being able to buy tickets two days early at 10 am EST.Well, at exactly 10:01 EST the website I was supposed to go to, to receive a password that would enable me to buy tickets early from ticketmaster was no longer available.First it said it was under construction, then I tried it again and got a message saying there was no website anymore. Its not like they are not going to make a $ on their inflated ticket prices, but now they shafted their own Fanclub members with the promise of early tickets. Thanks Guys.Is this what I waited 15 years for?

Jay | 3/8/2007, 10:26 am EST

Yea Yea, that $225 is outrageous, but hey, I just bought a ticket for $57 for the Toronto Show. It gets me in and I’ll be in heaven again to hear Genesis play some of their older music again (which they will). In the meantime, go see The Musical Box (awesome).

ottah | 3/8/2007, 9:31 am EST

“…doing The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in it’s entirety…”

Don’t you mean “in its entirety”? How about some proofreading, RS?

Mullet Man | 3/8/2007, 9:08 am EST

The price is perfect for ex-80’s yuppies who listen to the Collins era crap. You can’t even tell the difference between a Collins solo album and 80’s Genesis. The Gabriel era was beautiful vintage prog. Leave the trio genesis crap for reruns of Miami Vice, or that awful 80’s Yes, or Gilmour’s watered down Momentary Lapse Pink Floyd. The 80’s killed good progressive rock. It all became soundtrack music for insider trading and Jane Fonda workout videos.

dd | 3/8/2007, 8:18 am EST

Its bad enough i had to join the damn Police Fan Club for $100 to be given the privelege and opportunity to acquire tickets for them, but $225 for Genesis is just rediculous….maybe I’d pay that for the Beatles…..?

Christian | 3/8/2007, 2:25 am EST

Anything for Gabriel, but nada without.

Evan | 3/8/2007, 1:06 am EST

I wouldn’t pay 20 bucks to see Phil Collins Genesis live. But I would sell my soul to the devil to see a Peter Gabriel fronted Genesis show. And if they could get Steve Hackett to come back that would be the icing on the cake.

Scott | 3/8/2007, 12:22 am EST

$225 a ticket? I remember an interview with Phil saying that he is an artist and artists do not recreate their work(s). I guess if there is enough $$$ to be had, even an entertainer/perfomer/”artist” will recreate. I am disgusted. I saw the band several times in the past but not for this kind of dinero. I guess they have forgotten their roots and have sold out many a loyal fan. Shame on you guys.

jungleland | 3/7/2007, 11:33 pm EST

I saw them in 1986 for under $20..this is a load of crap

c w | 3/7/2007, 11:30 pm EST

I have major issues with the choices of venues personally. I mean, shit, nothing below the Mason-Dixon line?! I was willing to drive to Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, wherever, but gimme a break! I’m anxious to hear some great jams and some great drums, but I can’t afford the commute OR the tix for that matter. I have every Genesis cd and will foolishly buy all 2cd remasters, but I just don’t know about all this when I can just buy the cd/dvd combo when it comes out this Xmas. Oh well, they’ll rock out one way or the other…

MD | 3/7/2007, 11:03 pm EST

No Seattle??? That’s Bullsh*!!!

Greg | 3/7/2007, 10:59 pm EST

Whoa! Why would someone fork over major coin for this reheated stuff when for a fraction of the cost you can hit a smaller venue and see a vibrant, new band whose songs aren’t thirty years old. This dinosaur band concert tour syndrome has got to be stopped. I’ve got Genesis on CD and that’s where I’ll be listening to them. Now, if I could score some Arcade Fire tickets!

Harvey Danger | 3/7/2007, 7:49 pm EST

I saw Genesis in ‘86 at Giants stadium…
I think I paid $40 for “general admission”…
$550 for a seat on the field???
They can’t dance, but they’re pretty good at fleecing the fans…

Pete | 3/7/2007, 7:39 pm EST

Genesis is really two bands, Gabriel Genesis and Collins Genesis. They are both great in different ways. Gabriel told us what he liked in our wardrobe and Collins told us to turn it on! turn it on, turn it on again

Who? | 3/7/2007, 5:38 pm EST

Are these the same guys who did “Illegal Alien”? If so, these guys are a riot!!!

Lou | 3/7/2007, 5:29 pm EST

The Phil Collins led LIVE act is far superior to the Gabriel led show.I mean lets face it,Phil was a better singer and a more energetic performer. And he does the Gabriel era songs better than Gabriel.(ALL except the Lamb.I’ll give him that)He always put more energy into songs like Cinema Show and Firth of Fifth. Also the 1980’s version of In The Cage redefined the song.I mean I like Peter, he just does’nt get my blood boiling when he sings sometimes.(Except for the 1976 version of Salsbury Hill.Anyway, it should be a great show if they stick to most of the seventies material.

Guitar Tube | 3/7/2007, 5:23 pm EST

We are the YouTbe Generation. Search for Genesis there. What do you get that is interesting? Musical Box, Supper’s Ready out even Trick of the Tail. Not warmed over MTV which is what the Genesis trio is all about.

Maybe it is better this way. For musicians, it is easier to just sit in the dark and recreate the old album sound. For Peter Gabriel it would look ridiculous to repeat the type of performance we see in videos.

jill hives | 3/7/2007, 4:57 pm EST

i’ve been hyped about this only to find out they’re not playing anywhere near where i live, and even if they did my skint ass couldn’t afford it.
boo!!!

No Upstate NY | 3/7/2007, 4:51 pm EST

No upstate NY. Just Toronto. BOOOO Why no Buffalo? Or Syracuse where 44,000 would come.

Donald | 3/7/2007, 4:42 pm EST

What’s funny is that Phil Collins said today that Genesis aren’t touring “for the money”. Tickets are $225 each.

For once, I’d like to see a band just come out and say, “Yeah, we’re touring for the cash.”

The Eagles already practice this theory.

Chris | 3/7/2007, 4:36 pm EST

This tour is definitely just a holdover until the real Genesis reunion. Gabriel and Hackett were always the musical heart and soul of that band anyway.
