Talk Back: Top Twenty-Five “South Park” Moments

3/6/07, 3:25 pm EST

South ParkIn honor of Rolling Stone’s next cover stars, we got our resident South Park expert Andy Greene to choose the most excellent moments in the show’s ten-year history. It was a tough job, but he did us proud. Now it’s your turn to tell us what he/we did wrong. Can’t get enough? We’ll drop the cover image tomorrow morning and excerpts from the feature story Thursday. (The main article image is gonna blow your mind. Tom Cruise, watch out!)

part 14 was Stan NOT Kyle. Stan was thought to be the reincarnation of L. Ron. Have you guys even watched this episode? Or are you just summarizing net notes ’cause deep down you’re scientologists too!

Alex | 9/5/2007, 1:08 pm EST

All these were great. But one of my favorite moments was in the “Passion of the Jew” episode when Kyle is trying to persuade the synagogue to apologize for Jesus´death after seeing Mel Gibson´s “The Passion of Christ”. They become outraged, but the rabbi calms them down saying, more or less, “How much harm can a movie do”. Then, Cartman passes in front of the synagogue in a full Hitler costume with the movie´s fun club, which he created, shouting anti-Jew messages as all stare in fear.

Gotdamn Mongoians! Stop tryin break down my sheety wall!

Hahaha that’s one of the best parts. Also when Ms. Garrison is getting nailed by Richard Dawkins. The Scott Tenorman episode was definitely the most disturbing, because Cartman keeps getting outsmarted by Scott and then all of the sudden he gets so owned by Cartman unexpectedly.

desiree | 5/5/2007, 12:04 pm EST

one of the funniest south park moments was the episode where cartman buys pubes. hilarious. then he makes that 8th grader eat his parent in a bowl of chile without knowing it. a-ha, ha. funny. i also thought that the episode where cartman finds kenny’s ashes in a jar and he puts it in his milk and drinks it. i thought that was also funny.

turd sandwich | 4/20/2007, 10:02 pm EST

I think the ending of Lice Capdes episodes having Angelina Jolie was one of the funniest moments in South Park

Vote or Die | 4/18/2007, 8:37 pm EST

Vote or Die from the episode “Douche and Turd” ranks up there in my top 5, if not the funniest moment. You guys did get a lot of the good ones though.

Lil Crimestopper | 4/15/2007, 5:46 pm EST

My favourite moment is the scene from Lil Crimestoppers (don’t remember the season), where the boys are told to shut down a meth lab after being promoted to junior detectives. Then when they knock on the door, all the criminals manage to kill themselves in various ways, like flying a plane that’s low on fuel - it’s hilarious!

Chris | 4/11/2007, 2:04 pm EST

“So I know that this is a very stupid question, but how did they bring Kenny back when they had killed him off for good?”

If I’m not mistaken, he just slowly reappeared when Stan, Kyle and Cartman were just standing there, like they do at the bus stop.

Tim Cuthbertson | 4/11/2007, 2:56 am EST

I think one episode that was very worthy of being on that list was the one about the succubus. It’s freakin hilarious, especially when chef’s father keeps rambling on about the damn lochness monster.

Josh | 4/8/2007, 9:44 pm EST

In your Moment #12, you state that it was Kyle who was thought to be the reincarnation (and everything else in the episode). It was actually Stan, not Kyle.

A | 4/5/2007, 2:12 am EST

So I know that this is a very stupid question, but how did they bring Kenny back when they had killed him off for good?

Jim | 4/3/2007, 11:32 pm EST

I’d have to rank the episode where they expose the truth behind 9/11 and give all the conspiracy theory “retards” a shot of reality.

Cactus Jamie | 4/2/2007, 2:09 am EST

A great list, but honorable mention should go to landing a whale on the moon, Santa’s torture by Iraqi terrorists, Butter’s getting a throwing star in the eye during a game of ‘ninja’, the Jesus versus Satan rigged pay-per-view fight, and the tragic final death of Kenny… for real this time. At least for a couple of seasons anyway…

Matt | 3/29/2007, 6:35 pm EST

LOL and now i go to watch south park

Matt | 3/29/2007, 6:33 pm EST

oh ya you guys for got when the take the cough medication!!!!! that shit was jokkkkkkkkkkkkes

Matt | 3/29/2007, 6:32 pm EST

wow so many comments, umm wheres WING!!!! getting smashed up by the boxxer when the kids put her on the contender that shit was classssic you guys most them right… oh!!! i almost forgot what about good times with weapons!?!?! when kenny nails butters with the ninja start or when cartman goes through the auction naked hahahahaha besides those 2 missing episodes and the one with timmy and jimmy being crips” I mean, just COME ON!” you guys got this spot on…. wait what about lord of the rings at the end when the parents give the boys a crash course on sex but ya besides those you guys did good!

styles | 3/29/2007, 3:23 pm EST

My favourite episode is the one where the parents want to build a wall around the city to keep potential child molesters out so they ask the chinese guy who runs City Wok to build them a Chinese Wall. As he is guarding the wall, Mongolian warriors keep trying to destroy the wall. The Chinese guy keeps saying, “God dam Mongorians, try to break down my Sheety wall”…CLASSIC!

RICK Hamm SOUTH-ington, CT!! | 3/28/2007, 6:15 pm EST

The Super Best Friends Episode was left out…but that was an awesome episode! The fact that they showed the image of Muhummad and it wasnt censored or anything! Then when it was highly public in the Cartoon Wars episode, comedy central censored the image, when in season 7 which was still at the height of the 9/11 mania, they didn’t bother to censor it. I think that episode totally kicks ass! Also the Mormon episode is cool where they totally diss on the religion but then at the end make it seem like they actually have it right considering they don’t really believe in all that crap, but rather having moral goals rather than killing eachother like catholics and muslims and jews have done for centuries!!

RICK | 3/28/2007, 6:01 pm EST

Moment 12 is incorrect, it was actually Stan that was the scientolgist. On the website it says that it was kyle. I love in that episode the alien guy that simply laughs every time they show him. This was a great episode of South Park.

Dont forget The losing edge when all the boys try to lose in baseball because they hate it and they encourage Stans dad to fight the Denver dad to get them disqualified…Great Episode!

I also agree with what someone else said as the Russell Crowe episode, even though i hear trey and matt are good friends with him and it was simply a funny joke between friends, which actually makes it kinda funnier anyways…

Trey and Matt kick ass…I hope they make South Park forever! haha

K-Mac | 3/28/2007, 2:31 pm EST

How do you stop a giant stone Abraham Lincoln?

Mmmm, ummm…..With a giant stone John Wilkes Booth?

Jessu Christ, if that wasn’t the most offensive thing on this show, what is!!

What about the scene at Satan’s party with Steve Erwin?

“It’s me Satan, Steve Erwin!”

“Dude, sorry, no costume, you gotta go!”

That was great.

Some of these on the list were lame, I could have come up with a ton more.

What about the richers?

danny | 3/26/2007, 9:38 pm EST

Come on…the best moment in South Park (besides the blood orgy in Woodland Critter Christmas and Jesus vs. Satan in Damien, not to mention the priest who bet against Jesus) is the first Christmas episode where Kenny lives…

thaonetah'lik | 3/26/2007, 8:44 pm EST

absolutely agree scott tenorman best episode. best scene: randy fighting batdad to miraculously lose the game for the kids. best moment: cartman’s mom screwing up cartman’s training by dog whisperer. best line, hands down: when jonathan davis from korn says they should split up into groups by whoever’s held back by their own insecurities and whoever enjoys overcoming them !!

Martin | 3/23/2007, 8:31 pm EST

The very best scene ever was from Cancelled where Kyle had to stick his finger up Cartman’s butt and he kept farting.

The joke dragged and dragged and it was hilarious from start to end!

K.O. | 3/21/2007, 2:00 pm EST

Where is the “crips” episoed? I cried for 20 min.

Chris | 3/21/2007, 12:48 am EST

This list is lacking some of my favorite moments:

The “good times with weapons” episode (c’mon, ‘Let’s Fighting Love’, and when cartman tries to sneak across the stage…)

The Damien episode way back from season 1 (ANTS IN THE PANTS!?)

The parody episode of Lord of the Rings

Cartmanland

Awesome-o

Nambla

Ladder to heaven

And how about

Fu Man Chu | 3/20/2007, 1:06 pm EST

#1 is just a blatant copy of Shakespeare’s Titus. Not very original or even dark in that respect.

Cool Guy | 3/19/2007, 6:57 pm EST

These are th worst south park moments. there are wayy better ones than these

Jenna | 3/19/2007, 5:45 pm EST

OMG The Towelie episode is the best!! Its funny when he gets high. Don’t forget to bring a towl….you wanna get high? NO !
HAHAHAHA The W.O.W is great also.

Chris | 3/19/2007, 4:19 pm EST

I have more comments after reading through the…comments.

I always find myself incorporating “Lulu, I got some apples” into any song.

I agree with Jrock81. The part where Kenny tags Butters with the Chinese star in “Weapons” was probably one of my top 5 moments. My wife, possibly like many others, didn’t think it was that funny, but it kills me every time I watch it.

Nice to see other mentions of “N.A.M.B.L.A.”

I dug the hippied slaughter if only to hear Slayer’s “Reigning Blood” on a TV show. Cool.

The Russell Crowe episode is probably the most underrated. It’s one of those that I forget about until I see it again and remember that it was pretty good.

And “we” didn’t give ManBearPig an Oscar; the hypocritical choir to which he preaches did.

Chris | 3/19/2007, 3:47 pm EST

What a shocker! Rolling Stone “hated” an episode that oh-so accurately skewered Al Gore. That episode was good if only because of 1) Cartman’s constant trips to “take a dump” in an effort to covertly steal…what was it…$15 worth of treasure, 2) the defecation thereof and, my favorite, 3) when he gets right up into Kyle’s face while Kyle is sleeping. That part kills me. That episode was at least as good as the one portraying Mel Gibson as nutty. Anyway, my guess is, then, that you could not find a spot for a moment from the funniest episode (in my opinion), “Cartman Joins N.A.M.B.L.A.” because Cartman complains about his taxes supporting slackers on welfare.

It may already have been mentioned, but it was Stan who was the second-coming of L. Ron Hubbard.

And while it’s true that Cartman does take advantage of Butters naivete, he has shown to be nearly as naive as with the aforementioned treasure and when in last week’s episode, he thought putting Butters’ weiner in his mouth while Butters’ was sleeping would make Butters’ look like the gay one. Just as Butters’ can hold his own with Cartman (the video he had of him in “AWESOM-O”), Cartman is closing the naivete gap between them.

I will agree, however, on your top moment. That one took me a while to digest. Dark.

bob | 3/19/2007, 5:36 am EST

If you want to download South Park Moment #1, it’s episode 504 (NOT 501 as stated on rollingstone’s website).

JF | 3/18/2007, 7:54 pm EST

What about that poster that says Use Condoms. Missing is Spontaneous Combustion. Or the Mexican frog…

barbara | 3/18/2007, 7:43 pm EST

I’m a huge fan of south park I have alot of south park moments to list form all start first one was when mr garrison got a new face and mrs ellen was the boys new subsitute teacher and wendy was jelious of here and wanted to shoot here into the center of the sun now that was funny. My second one is when the boys were trapped on the bus and they imagined times and end to be a sticky situation now that was funny.and my third one is when stan thought sparky was gay and sparky ran away to big gay al’s big gay animal sacuary and they sang the song its okay to be gay.and my fourth one is when the boys gave up smoking and went visit the tabacco company and rob reiner was all like ‘’goddamit there will no more smoking'’ and cartman stabbed him and rob reiner was all like “my goo my precious goo” and he melted that was halarious. And another one when stan encouraged everybody to buy hybrids and the people were smelling there own farts to get stoned and funniest part was when there were talking with there eyes closed oh and ‘thaaannks” and “good for you” and theres more three more when cartman was a veitnamese prositute and he rode on the bull and kenny got killed by the bull and leinardo de caprio was like “bye minglee thanks again”
and when the boys got the chicken pox because there parents wanted them to get exposed to the chicken pox and they got revenge by giving them the sickness I love that one.
One more the losing edge was funny too when the boys wanted to lose at baseball and randy was fighting everybody I loved the part when he was fighting bat dad that was halarious too.Whooooooo that was alot anyways I’m finished posting.

ali | 3/18/2007, 7:08 pm EST

My roommate and I randomly quote south park everyday. I love to sing Butters’ lululu song, and she likes to say bush is a nazi, pronounced “nayzee” by cartman! this show rocks and it will be a sad sad when it ends

Claudio | 3/17/2007, 11:42 am EST

My all time favourite moment was in “Cowdays” where Cartman bangs his head and wakes up thinking he is a Vietnamese prostitute by the name of Ming Lee - i literally fell off my seat and had tears streaming down my face.
Greatest show of all time

Just some guy | 3/16/2007, 11:51 pm EST

Good list. My favorite scene ever remains:

Stan: Cartman, you can’t start a Christian rock band. You don’t know anything about Christainity!

Cartman: I know enough to exploit it.

Indeed

USC GAMECOCKS21 | 3/16/2007, 1:47 am EST

As many have noted this list completely ignores the first four seasons. Contrary to what it seems everyone else thinks, these beginning seasons were the best ever (I don’t even think Matt and Trey agree with me here). The first seasons established a sense of humor far superior to current episodes which tend to just bash curret events. Although I could never say I dislike any South Park epsodes, I will say seasons 8-11 do not even compare with 1-4 or 5&6. That being said here are my top 5 moments (and I consider myself a South Park purist): 5. Russell Crowe “foighten” cancer by beating up a cancer patient, and calling cancer names in the process. 4. Cartman telling Kitty that these are his spicy hot baked Louisiana chicken tenders in anime style (how could RS disregard the Chinpokomon episode?). 3. Mr. Hankey drowning the South Park film festival in shit. 2. Yoko Ono speaks at the 1 million recorder child blow (establishing the future voice of Mr. Lu Kim). 1. And finally I will have to go with Dio singing at the kids 3rd grade dance. This moment never fails in cracking me up. If you havn’t seen it watch season three. This list does no justice to the show I feel however as I failed to give credit to my favorite episodes (such as Roger Ebert should lay off the fatty foods, clubhouses, damien, death camp of tolerance, and cowdays), but it gives more love to old seasons, when south park was at its best.

symphonyofdissent | 3/16/2007, 1:09 am EST

This list is good, but lacking a few truly great episodes/scenes

The Nambla chase scene, Awesome-o, The last scene is casa bonita, P-diddy–vote or die killing PETA, The whole lord of the rings episode, Fun time with weapons theme song or when the star hits butters etc…there are way too many for an exhaustive list

Oriana | 3/15/2007, 5:23 pm EST

it wasent klye that is supposed to be L. Ron Hubbard, but stan. just wanted to correct that.

Nithin | 3/15/2007, 6:09 am EST

How can you not have AWSOM-O and / or Cartman Joins NAMBLA episode on this list???
Also couple of GEMS that you missed were: Casabonita, the episode where Butters dresses up like a girl (Margerine). The scene where they push the dead pig from the roof was damn funny. Also, episodes like Cancelled, Cartman gets an Anal Probe and the episode where Ike is “molested” by his hot teacher.

afd | 3/14/2007, 9:47 pm EST

The person that wrote this must not research or know much about south park. Stan was the supposed reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard not kyle and the kids don’t pretend like cartman is dead they just ingnore him. Cartman concludes he’s a ghost and when butters sees him they think that butters can see dead people

NightOfTheLivingDon | 3/14/2007, 3:20 pm EST

And “Manbearpig” was awesome! I’m sure they were burnt out from “Cartoon Wars” and just wanted to put out something quick and silly. But I think we should all respect Rolling Stone’s opinion (I don’t think they have any friends).

NightOfTheLivingDon | 3/14/2007, 3:18 pm EST

Well, I can’t agree with this list simply based on the fact that four years of the series was omitted, probably because RS is increasingly getting lazier with their converage. Ah well, here are my favorite moments from the four seasons RS left out.
Season 1 - “An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig” / Eric-”Why don’t you stop dressing me up like a mailman and making me dance for you while you go and smoke crack in your bedroom and have sex with some guy I don’t even know on my dad’s bed!”
Season 2 - “Not Without My Anus” / After waiting months to find out who Cartman’s father really was, I tuned in with incredible anticipation. However, the results would not be seen in order to bring us a Terrence and Phillip special. APRIL FOOLS! Apparently other people were pretty angry with that, but I laughed my @$$ off. Now, let’s look for treasure!
Season 3 - “Spontaneous Combustion” / Stan and Kyle nail Cartman on a cross and leave him there for weeks in order to give Kyle’s father a resurrection. There are actually three moments involved with this event. 1) Eric-”Officer Barbrady!” O.B.-”T. T is for turtle.” 2) Chef-”You children shouldn’t be out here crucifying each other!” 3) Realizing they had forgotten about Cartman, Stan and Kyle go back to find that he had been living off of his fat the whole time. Emaciated Cartman was hilarious!
Season 4 - “Chef Goes Nanners” / Angered about the South Park flag, Chef joins the Nation of Islam and changes his name to Abdul Mohammed Jabar - Hauf Kareem Ali. Of course, the entire name won’t fit on his apron so an Islamic assisant has to hold up the rest of his name and try to keep it all straight while he is serving the children lunch. Also, in one of my favorite deaths, Kenny eats a bowl of antacids then explodes after drinking a glass of water. Instead of the standard, “Oh my God! They killed Kenny!”, everyone bursts out in laughter and Stan observes, “That was a good one.”

MMW | 3/14/2007, 3:14 pm EST

Animals with a wide angle lens makes me pee my shorts. I am willing to bet the post that wants to “dropkick” me is zooming around in his gyrocar right now (those in the know will get that). next thing you know, gore will be forming a concert with the very acts he and his wife tried to ban years ago. oh wait, he already did that. FLAMING HYPOCRITE!!! WHY WONT HE GO AWAY!!

Manbearpig | 3/14/2007, 8:27 am EST

The Manbearpig episode was fantastic! “I’m super serial”! Everybody’ll say Thank You, Al Gore! You rolling stone people just don’t like your enviro-wacko icon being made fun of.

And where was the mention of the Hardly Boys!!!!! I’ve got a raging clue!

DG | 3/13/2007, 6:14 pm EST

Manbearpig. “Everyone is super stoked on me. They just don’t know it yet…” And what about last fall when Ms. Garrison taught the children about evolution? “So there you go. You’re the retarded offspring of five monkeys having butt sex with a fish squirrel. Congratulations.”

Jim | 3/13/2007, 1:21 pm EST

RS incorrectly referred to Trey Parker as Matt Stone and vice versa when showing the picture of them with the paint cans doing the grafitti in the new issue.

ManCow | 3/13/2007, 12:53 pm EST

Nothing from Season 8’s “Good Times with Weapons?” Watching Cartman use his Ninja special power of invisibility to sneak across the stage at the town auction is my favorite scene in the history of “South Park.”

I also thought Cartman rowing Kyle out into the middle of Stark’s Pond to kill him with a whiffle bat was pretty funny too. (Season 7, the “Toilet Paper” episode)

After reading this, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not a well man.

Jhon A. | 3/13/2007, 9:31 am EST

Two of the best moments:
When the kids get a lesbian substitute teacher and want to become lesbians too, and actually start licking the rug at home.

When the people from the future come to Suth Park and in order to stop them everyone becomes gay, the ending is hilarious

Lee | 3/12/2007, 10:43 pm EST

How about this gem:
Mr. Garrison: Now can anybody tell me what a condom is?
Jenny: It flies around and it’s endangered.
Mr. Garrison: No, Jenny! That’s a condor!

Also, Butters humping Cartman because he’s seen Backdoor Sluts 9 is pure hilarity.

ep | 3/12/2007, 2:15 pm EST

what about when the boys get high on cough madicine? hilarious

Wrong Best moment | 3/12/2007, 12:58 pm EST

My jaw fell on the ground when Cartman started driving through the hippie crowd to reach the stage to put Heavy Metal music to make the hippies leave their quiet and jolly Southpark town!!!

Scientology montage | 3/12/2007, 7:51 am EST

In that episode Stan is a reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard not Kyle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
zlato

Lisa | 3/11/2007, 6:14 pm EST

Best song yet:
Garrison’s “Merry F*#king Christmas” from Hankey’s Christmas Special

Mary McConnell | 3/11/2007, 6:11 pm EST

I choose MOMENT #12 because of it’s G rating and it’s overall benefit and warning to the public :)

“Scientology montage (Episode 912): In what turned out to be South Park’s most notorious episode, Scientologists conclude that Kyle must be a reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard. Kyle is given a brief overview of the cult’s beliefs via an abridged version of the Scientology creation myth, which features frozen aliens in volcanoes, alien warlord Xenu… the whole she-bang. Throughout, the message “This is what Scientologists actually believe” is periodically flashed on the screen.”

The Death of Chef (Isaac hayes send off) was a terrific followup.
We love Stone and Parker over at the google group alt.religion.scientology !!

Dick Jones | 3/11/2007, 7:34 am EST

My all time favourite moment is in ‘Make Love, Not Warcraft’ when Cartman’s mom brings the bedpan and Cartman spews crap from his butt’.

tonk | 3/11/2007, 6:53 am EST

Until I die, I will always love the singing between Santa and Jesus in ep#315. I only wish that they sang for longer.

Camo 335 | 3/11/2007, 1:09 am EST

Great list for a great show.

My 2 favorite episodes would have to be WOW and Fun With Weapons, so obviously they should each have a moment in there; like when Cartman turns “invisible” and claims he had a wardrobe malfunction. It completely turned that episode around making a statement about parents’ acceptance of violence and hatred towards nudity. In WOW when the music kicked up and they had the montage while the boys got fat and nasty you couldn’t help but feel a little gross and greasy yourself.

BUT!! I have to say my favorite MOMENT is during Red Sleigh Down when Jesus has his guts blown out from behind and dies in Santa’s Arms. Then soon after Santa gives a speech to the people of South Park saying that “Christmas should be a time to remember a brave man named Jesus”. Also the high-pitched scream when they electrocuted Santa’s balls were hilarious!

One Final Note: I was really disappointed in the “Million Little Fibers” episode. I loved Towlie and his line “YOU’RE a Towel!” when in an arguement, but that episode was terrible and ruined them for me forever. That is my worst episode ever. Manbearpig was weak, but atleast it didn’t destroy a beautiful thing.

Tony | 3/10/2007, 2:13 pm EST

Oh hell…cripple fight gets me laughing so hard I’m crying every damn time! “Attention shoppers……”

Garrettt | 3/10/2007, 12:34 pm EST

uhm, idk what anyone is talking about. manbearpig is one of my favorite episodes. same with my friends. we always quote it and like everyone in our town saw that episode cause we constantly talking about it. sooo funny.

cooleyez229 | 3/10/2007, 2:38 am EST

One of my favorites not listed here is from the third season’s episode, when Korn guest-starred. The gang digs up Kyle’s grandmother in an effort to scare the 5th graders. The whole town wonders if necrophiliacs have descended upon their town.

Also, Cartman vs. Hippies… funny as hell!

Olibuss | 3/9/2007, 9:31 pm EST

The Vote or die song by P.Diddy
While he and his crew are chasing Stan cuz he didnt vote for the new school mascott in the giant douche vs turd sandwich episode is hilarious.

I like it when you vote bitch
Shake them titties when you vote bitch
I slam my jimmy through your mouth roof
Now get yo’ big ass in the polling booth.

This is classic south park stuff

88keys | 3/9/2007, 4:48 pm EST

The original hollywood pilot, Jesus vs Santa Claus, is still my favorite perhaps ’cause I got a bootleg of it b4 the show ever aired.

whosit | 3/9/2007, 4:01 pm EST

“ah, the censors at rs. bravo!

i guess it’s against the rules to point out that south park is responsible for the whole “that’s gay” thing, and that they continue to push the message that gay people are to be despised.”

You’re an idiot. Or you’ve never seen ANY of the early episodes. You ever hear of Big Guy Al? Don’t be gay Sparky! If you happen to watch the entire episode you would pretty much know their position on homophobia.

Once again. You’re an idiot.

Katy | 3/9/2007, 2:36 pm EST

I disagree a little.
A list of the greatest South Park moments that includes nothing from before season five, or the movie? Lame. How about “Not Without My Anus”? At the height of the show’s popularity, Trey and Matt said “fuck you” to their own audience, an early establishment that no one was safe from being mocked on this show. The episode that pissed off so many people that it’s the only one that has been banned from the network since it’s original airing.
And it’s hilarious, by the way.

Kristian | 3/9/2007, 2:34 pm EST

i especially like the episode where the boys build a ladder to heaven, to find out where their late friend had hidden som candyfair tickets. the people thinks its because they miss him, and some country singer sings a sympathy song, like the one he did on september 11th. great to finally see some irony on that subject! well anyway it all ends up with george bush bombing heaven because sources (aka. hisd imagination) tells him osama binladen is hiding upthere.. hilarious!!

Token | 3/9/2007, 2:31 pm EST

How can everyone be forgetting one of the most hilarious episodes ever? The “Willzyx” episode where the boys get help from Animals Rights people to send the whale to the moon…then when the credits roll, all you see is the dead whale…priceless…

south park dude | 3/9/2007, 2:14 pm EST

Yeah, most south park dudes agree that the moment when cartman fills a bowl with his steaming poop while his mommy holds it is a classic south park moment worthy of top ten mention.

it parodies parents who spoil their kids & online roleplaying addicts all in one pithy scene/episode. hilarious.

Most south park addicts debate between the scott tenorman episode vs the WOW episode as the greatest ever.

personally, my favorite episode is the Woodland Critter Christmas. my favorite scene being the one where the tiger cubs perform an abortion on the antichrist.

And what about the scene where Towelie performs funky town on the security system…

“you wanna’ get high?”

smart person | 3/9/2007, 1:47 pm EST

As to intelligent’s person’s comments on Al Gore–

Referring to Al Gore as “sucking ass” because he has the courage to take a side on a widely debated issue–as you, yourself, even admit–is just ignorant.

Your argument ammounts to: global warming is being debated within the scientific community so lets do nothing (which is always the safest thing for the economy!). Meanwhile, any body who takes a side contrary to the conservative consensus we will personally attack and brilliantly point out that “the sun heats the earth, afterall.”

It’s somewhat true that more scientists are starting to “speak out” against global warming but the great MAJORITY of scientists in the world still fall on Al Gore’s side of the issue.

Whether Al Gore is a hypocrite or not, which I won’t get into due to the limited space of this forum, will not matter if the Glacier melts and half the world is flooded amongst other possible environmental disatsters.

Alex | 3/9/2007, 10:28 am EST

Did anyone forget about Chef’s Chocolate Salty Balls, The Succubus, Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld, Cartman Gets an Anal Probe

jrock81 | 3/8/2007, 9:37 pm EST

“All About Mormons”…Dumb, dumb, dumb…” And the best scene ever? “Good Times With Weapons”, at the moment Kenny hits Butters (Professor Chaos) with the throwing star. Add to the list “Here Comes The Neighborhood” and “Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes,” and you’ve got yourself a top 28.

And Al Gore winning an award given by a group of filmmakers? A group notable as being very liberal? Oh, that says alot about what the ENTIRE country thinks. Should have been for science fiction. Still, though, the episode sucked.

intelligent person | 3/8/2007, 6:41 pm EST

al gore sucks ass, and its not because he is unlikeable or a moron. its because he has taken up a cause whose only solution would cripple the economy of the US and every major developing nation. there is no scientific consensus on Global Warming, in fact more and more scientists are starting to speak out now about how you can’t even get a job, unless you agree with Gore’s oremise in the movie. Gore is an absolute hypocrite, i.e. his jet usage and home power usage. if you are so unintelligent that you can’t see the logic behind the fact that the sun itself is warming our planet, regardless of what man is doing, then i do expect you to be the moron on here who does not find “manbearpig” episode funny, because your side got made fun of. MMW, you are right.

Cooter | 3/8/2007, 4:34 pm EST

MMW is correct.

pissoff MMW | 3/8/2007, 4:27 pm EST

everything MMW has posted makes me want to dropkick the muthafukka.

Brad | 3/8/2007, 4:23 pm EST

I love the episode where they made fun of the Lord of the Rings movie. The kid’s parents sent them on the quest to find the special movie tape and Butters chased after them for his ‘precious’. That was hilarious. Any episode that features Butters is downright hilarious.

Boner | 3/8/2007, 4:20 pm EST

My balls.

mmcs | 3/8/2007, 3:06 pm EST

Who can forget Bebe gets boobs or Mr Garrison teaching sex positions to his kindergarden class???

Mark | 3/8/2007, 2:01 pm EST

The RS list skews to more recent episodes, but the fact is that you can find multiple highlights in almost every episode. Ranking them is a futile exercise except for one consensus - the conclusion of Scott Tenorman Must Die is the most memorable, disgusting, hilarious scene they ever wrote.

My personal favorite though -”Every election is a choice between a s**t sandwich and a giant douche.” Perfectly stated.

MMW | 3/8/2007, 11:05 am EST

oscar, grammy, they are both jokes. i dont care for what bush is doing, but he won. you dont steal elections. this is not riyadh. let the right have its fun. you lefties rip on bush like it is a bodily function. so when we do it to one of your spokespeople, just shut up and take it like we do.

Bobba | 3/8/2007, 10:27 am EST

I love South Park, but the article is lame. Why don’t any of the clips show the joke that the description references? Why show a clip of the Christopher Reeve episode, if you aren’t going to show CR cracking open a fetus and sucking out the spinal fluid?

Mase | 3/8/2007, 9:38 am EST

Hit the nail on the head with the “Heat of the Moment” episode. One that was missed was the Death Camp of Tolerance. My favorite part is when Cartman is going through the Tunnel and comes out asking to do it again. Classic!

LFH | 3/8/2007, 8:57 am EST

When Garrison created that bicycle powered by felating and buggery and the whole community jumped on the bandwagon……….Too funny.

ya, here here | 3/8/2007, 8:48 am EST

what about the mormon episode? “dumb dumb dumb dumb DUM!”
Jimmy on roids, hilarious!!

Macedonia | 3/8/2007, 7:11 am EST

Scott Tenorman must die! BEST EPISODE ever…
I’d like to see another episode where cartman get’s so pissed off.

apathetic | 3/8/2007, 12:15 am EST

Fun Times with Weapons is classic, how can you not love an episode where the gang tries to disguise Butters as a dog and send him to a vet, Cartman’s “invisibility”…MBP is pretty funny, Matt and Trey rip on absolutely everyone, so why not throw in an ex-presidential nominee who is touring around the country (regardless of his ideas)…World of Warcraft is unreal…Red Sleigh Down, Rainforest Schmainforest (Why dont you take a picture, ok CLICK), or Cartman’s Mom is a Dirty Slut pts. 1 &2…this show is too good for words

dave t | 3/7/2007, 11:53 pm EST

Cartman pooping out his mouth and Russel Crowes Fightin Round the World

Don't worry about it | 3/7/2007, 10:58 pm EST

for moment nineteen they should have you the scene in which cartman freaks out cause his record won’t ever go platnum in front of the huge audience.

Also does anyone know what episode it is in which during class kile says “I can’t concentrate”
and cartman says “mabe we should send him to a concentration camp”
and then continues to freak cause he loses the bet on not being able to make a jew joke for a certain time

jen | 3/7/2007, 7:41 pm EST

oh yeah &
11 jared has aides

jen | 3/7/2007, 7:34 pm EST

most of those picks i don’t agree with, i say 1 tom cruise in the closet, 2 cartman & affleck, 3 butt face family, 4 casa bonita, 5 wallmart, 6 starvin’ marvin, 7 scott tenorman, 8 butter’s show, 9 school mascot, 10 cripple fight.

Joe | 3/7/2007, 7:22 pm EST

I think the beauty of South Park is that it can successfully do what so many other shows/movies/comedians want to do but can’t: parody the flaws of both sides of the political spectrum with neither escaping unscathed and without an obvious bias towards one side or the other. The goal isn’t to alienate one political ideology or the other, but make them all out to be fools. They’re not afraid to show the president shooting a 9/11 conspiracy geek in the oval office or PETA activists engaging in bestiality. They so perfectly sum up debates when it comes to immigration (pissed off white trash redneck conservative vs. aging liberal hippie douche), the 2004 election (voting for a douche or a turd when people didn’t really know enough about either one before making up their mind) or the Iraq war debate (pro war country singers vs. rock and roll protest singers)

Manbearpig was terrible because it was a parody without a point. They really want to fault a guy for having a cause he believes strongly in? The whole process must have gone something like this: “Hey, we wanna bash Al Gore, but we don’t really have a whole lot of material to make a 22-minute episode, so we’ll make fun of the time he said cereal (an obscure reference that happened once, which wasn’t funny the first time they had him say it, let alone the next 1,000), excelsior (never happened) and how he has no friends and is disliked (not true then, and certainly proven untrue over the last 9 months.)

MMW, it’s fine if you don’t like Al Gore, I can’t tell anyone who they can and can’t like. But you can’t make up facts saying the majority of the population thinks he’s a loser just because you feel that way when in fact it’s the complete opposite. And the writers of a show not liking a guy you don’t like doesn’t make the script funny.

SP vs FG | 3/7/2007, 6:49 pm EST

The key words that summed up the “chili” episode is when Stan says, “Jesus Christ Dude”. I couldn’t help but think back to the first time I saw that episode and thinking the same thing… hilarious

Jake | 3/7/2007, 6:41 pm EST

Gore won the election, Bush stole it. An Inconvenient Truth WAS the top rental when it came out, the guy never said it was currently the top rental. And it’s an Oscar, not a Grammy. Maybe you, MMW, should get your facts straight.

And the Manbearpig episode might be the worst one ever. That “total cerial” thing was not funny the 1st time they did it, it wasn’t funny the 10th time they did it and it wasn’t funny the 800th time they did it.

Phil | 3/7/2007, 4:54 pm EST

In the scientology episode It was Stan not Kyle that was believed to be the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard. Now I think it would be a good idea if I went outside.

duder | 3/7/2007, 4:41 pm EST

this is so typically tame and mentions almost none of the swipes sp regularly takes at the liberal establishment. and “manbearpig” was easily one of the top 25 episodes.

Nubes | 3/7/2007, 4:23 pm EST

thats impossible, way to many great episodes to pick an absolute favorite….they’ve changed there style from the early years, granted they still rip on anyone and anything but now its differant, the topics are more about current events…picking a favorite is like asking a mother to pick her favorite child, granted a few of them suck but the rest are good, I kinda like them all…..some how, some way Brittany Spears will be in tonights NEW episode, shes effed up to many times here lately for them not to notice….

MMW | 3/7/2007, 4:17 pm EST

if he got president, how did he perform during his term? idiot. just because he is an activist does not ensure his approval. the grammy was a crock, and it is NOT the top rental. get your facts straight or shut up. he is a huge hypocrite, and the rest of the country has a right to dislike him because he has contributed as much as anyone else about global warming. he is just hollywood, so it gets glorified. move on.

Pilot | 3/7/2007, 3:04 pm EST

Good stuff, but waaaaaay too much taken from the most recent episodes.

I’m quite partial to Jared from Subway having “AIDS”, The Death Camp of Tolerance, and when they use “the M word” to get rid of all of their parents.

But seriously, where’s Chimpokomon, Hooked on Monkey Phonics, Sexual Harrassment Panda, or Mecha-Striesand?

This Marklar is getting the Marklar out of this Marklar…

Spencer | 3/7/2007, 2:40 pm EST

Where the hell was Chef’s “Chocolate Salty Balls” or the Johnny Cochran “Chewbacca Defense?” Any list without those moments is no definitive South Park list.

J | 3/7/2007, 2:22 pm EST

Oh, and RS got the #1 funniest moment perfect. But the 2nd funniest moment= “Well, at least we got rid of all those ni-”

J | 3/7/2007, 2:21 pm EST

Funnier and funnier my ass. They stopped being funny in 2003.

John | 3/7/2007, 1:10 pm EST

I still laugh everytime I watch Child Abduction is not funny. I love when the Mongolians break down the “city wall”.

Sean | 3/7/2007, 12:11 pm EST

Yeah…America hates Al Gore. We voted him President, gave him an Oscar, and made “An Inconvenient Truth” one of the best selling documentaries of all time. The book was a best-seller. The movie was a top-rental. The only “losers” out there are people who refuse to give the man his due for all his activism. Even if global warming does turn out to be a crock, at least he’s trying to do the world some good instead of just trying to take it over.

As far as the list is concerned, there are way too many classic moments in South Park to put them all in a top 25, but what the hell is up with “jerking off Ben Affleck” being at #2? And where was “Free Willzyax?” where the boys launched the whale to the moon? That was hilarious. Over all, the list is decent but there are several entries I would have reworked, plus a few I would have omitted and some I might have added.

MMW | 3/7/2007, 11:26 am EST

of course RS is going to hate the al gore episode because you still vouch for that loser. that is one of the best episodes because it is downright funny, and it exposes what most of america feels about the friendless loser al gore.

Toxicdave | 3/7/2007, 2:17 am EST

I’d have to add the “Brown Note” and the end of “Pais Hilton/dirty whore” where she encounters the same ghost lemmiwinks does in his journy from the gay man’s ass.

JD | 3/7/2007, 1:27 am EST

Don’t have the time to see it all but I like it anytime Kenny is without his hood, although he looks like an ordinary kid without it on.

Ryan | 3/7/2007, 1:16 am EST

Greatest South Park moment Ever:
The boys try to return “Backdoor Sluts 9″ to the video store in a Lord of the Rings parody and when Jimmy’s trying to tell the adults about it, they keep getting it wrong, he says “N-no, y-you RETARDS!”

andrew | 3/7/2007, 1:14 am EST

apparently nothing funny ever happened in the first 4 seasons then?
no cartman gets an anal probe, no chinpokomon, no “respect my authoritay!”
whatever

Matt | 3/7/2007, 12:48 am EST

Something from “Goobacks” should have been on there. Thanks to them, I can now break down any immigration discussion as “Pissed off white trash redneck conservative” vs. “Aging liberal hippie douche”

But the biggest omission is “The Return of the Lord of the Rings to the Two Towers” Token’s graphic description of Backdoor Sluts 9, followed by the parents later attempting to clarify the “natural” acts occurring in the video (which the boys had never actually watched) was classic.

And by the way, Manbearpig was without a doubt their worst episode (one of about only 3 unwatchable ones) My friends and I watched it again recently and we agreed it had gotten worse since the first time we saw it, then I realized why. First off, it’s one joke beaten to death that wasn’t funny the first time (super cereal), plus a predictable and not at all funny subplot (Cartman attempting to steal the treasure that was plastic all along), but the main reason it was so bad is that every time South Park spoofs someone, it was usually with good cause (For example, just the last few seasons they’ve hit Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise and scientologists, smug hybrid car owners, 9/11 conspiracy nuts, Walmart, Paris Hilton, Terri Schiavo protesters, PETA, etc.)

Not only did they come up with no reason to dislike Gore other than he took up a cause he believed in, but his popularity has since skyrocketed, cresting with an Academy Award and possibly a Nobel Prize and has made him a prime contender for the 2008 election. I think they were banking that his movie would flop and there’d be little interest in solving the global warming crisis and he’d come across as a fool. It was the first time South Park attempted to skewer a person and it completely backfired.

Bad Apple | 3/6/2007, 11:31 pm EST

Freak Show was definitely one of the classics. Butters glues testicles to his chins to get on Maury Povich (Chinballinitus) and Cartman becomes an out of control kid, “Whatevah, Whatevah, I do what I want.” He also supports his claims of being out of control by stating, “Oh yeah? I ran for Congress and won and had sex with an intern and killed her and hid her body”….classic

Brett | 3/6/2007, 8:46 pm EST

Where’s “Fun Time With Weapons”?

deez nutz | 3/6/2007, 8:20 pm EST

Scott Tenorman might be one of the best episodes of any show EVER. it really did take South Park to the next level.

Fyodor Dostoevsky | 3/6/2007, 7:49 pm EST

Good call RS. South Park is not only the greatest show on television but also one of the best social critiques on the tube. My favorite would have to be the Skiing episode in which all the parents agree to stay for a weekend at a timeshare village. It’s such a brilliant parody of 80’s sports movies.

dupacrash | 3/6/2007, 7:40 pm EST

leonard maltin and robert smith teaming up to fight mega-streisand. timmy and jimmy having a knock-down, drag-out fight that was copied entirely from the movie “they live”. i’ve come to realize the best way to tell good episodes from lesser ones is whether you wonder if matt and trey are going to hell when they die.

ljs with love... | 3/6/2007, 7:00 pm EST

“crudest, stupidest, most hilariously offensive” i would have to argue that, while “crude” and “hilariously offensive,” (come on, RS, can’t you do better than that?) it is probably the smartest show on right now.

B.J. | 3/6/2007, 6:57 pm EST

From a musical standpoint the best episode is the “Chef aid” episode and I’m not just saying that because Joe Strummer and Rancid were in it. But Cartman does the German dan-ce, people

Anonymous | 3/6/2007, 6:47 pm EST

YES !!!! Towelie ad Butters forever but teh Raisins episode was so awesoem it defies words

mr. peepers | 3/6/2007, 6:05 pm EST

Where was the World of Warcraft episode? The sight of Cartman blasting shit into a bedpan his mother is holding is one of the nastiest things I’ve ever seen. And its a CARTOON!

Jeff | 3/6/2007, 5:41 pm EST

A few things I noticed in the main article:

It’s Stan that they think is the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard, not Kyle.

Erection Day is episode 907, not 906…and I only know that because I just bought the Season 9 DVD on my lunch break.

Oh, and if you didn’t find ManBearPig, you have no soul. Even Al Gore himself said it was hilarious! I’m totally cereal!

Shit? | 3/6/2007, 5:39 pm EST

Pretty good list of an awesome show….

But WHERE id the Shit episode, you know the one where they say shit uncensored 148 times? WAY funny…how do they get away with this stuff?

A.J. | 3/6/2007, 5:30 pm EST

great cover, in response to one of the earlier posts im pretty sure homophobia existed before south park came on comedy central. I may be wrong though

my favorite south park moment: “Hey Bat Dad, I didn’t hear no bell.”

hnomad | 3/6/2007, 5:15 pm EST

pretty good list.. but Satan’s sweet 16 shouldn’t be on there. that episode was probably the weakest all season. i would have had the warcraft one in there somewhere instead.

taint | 3/6/2007, 4:35 pm EST

ah, the censors at rs. bravo!

i guess it’s against the rules to point out that south park is responsible for the whole “that’s gay” thing, and that they continue to push the message that gay people are to be despised.

velvetjones | 3/6/2007, 4:33 pm EST

YES! the scott tenorman eating his parents moment is def the best moment in south park history. “umm scott let me taste your tears!” classic moment, but how are episodes like chinpokemon not on the list?

back to reality | 3/6/2007, 4:19 pm EST

future episode in which rollingstone’s head is so far up al gore’s ass it fails to see the funny in the manbearpig episode.

JOEYJJJSHABADOO | 3/6/2007, 4:05 pm EST

Very good list. Other classic moments would include:
1. Mingey and Gary,
2. smug people: talk with his eyes closed and likes the smell of his own farts
3. Butters as Marjorine, especially where they use pig to pretend he’s dead
4. AWESOM-O
5. Stan becomes goth in Raisins episode
6. Casa Bonita episode with Cartman tricking Butters
7. Fingerbang

My fav episode is: Christian Rock Hard

Jeff | 3/6/2007, 4:04 pm EST

YESS!!! What a great long overdue cover story idea!

Best moment last season: MOM! BATHROOM! BATHROOM!!! oooo that’s a big boy isn’t he?

Another best moment from last season = Satan’s costume party, Hitler as the ‘Can You Hear Me Now’ guy, and Satan doing the Napoleon Dynamite parody…and who could forget the Steve Irwin gag!

Cheers to South Park

Tiffany | 3/6/2007, 4:03 pm EST

I find myself singing the Lemiwinks song nearly every day.

The Woodland Creatures was my most watched episode and the most sadistic. Brilliant.

Must say, the Worlds or Warcraft episode was classic. Where is it?? Seriously.
