Lunchtime Poll: Hide Your Flannel

3/5/07, 10:59 am EST

In light of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat this month, maybe you’ve started thinking about wearing those regretable red and white top hats to (equally regretable) raves back in the ’90s (when the book was like…40 or something). What are some other rock fashion trends, current and past, that you’ve grown to or suspect you will grow to regret and why?

This in particular was not embarassing, but I sort of have regrets about it:Overalls.Who would’ve thought that your local farmer’s everyday workclothes would become a fixture in hip hop and rock? There was something so definitely hip and mellow about them, especially in the summertime. You could be in your B-boy stance, headbangin’,doing reggae dances, skateboarding,or even doing the butterfly, the gear itself was a jack of all trades.Cross Colors-one of the best, boldest brands in hip hop fashion-help launch the trend.More so,popularize it when Mary J. and Jodeci were all over the globe in 1992.It’s too bad they eventually were gone too soon alongside overalls itself.O)ne thing I don’t regret though,is the CROSS COLORS T-SHIRTS WITH THE LOONEY TUNES CHARACTERS!Remember they were in streetgear and posed B-boy style(I had the one with Bugs and Taz)?THAT ISH WAS FLY!

long hair may seem like a recent beatle trend, but native american men have worn their hair long and proud for thousands of years…

Continuing with the Starter theme, the Starter hats with the scripts have passed on since the early 90’s but you couldn’t see a rap video then without at least 20 of them visible. Most famous would be N.W.A.’s use of the Los Angeles Raiders’ and Kings’ hats. You can hardly find em now but I had about 10 different teams.

remember the flannel shirts with hoods? yeah baby, eighth grade.

i think that the thick black plastic frames or,”emo glasses”, if you will, are going to be looked back on as fairly silly as well

Starter NFL jackets.Something that was not only real about not only reppin’ your squad(I had an Eagles jacket),but downright genuine and comfortable about them.Once you look back on it,you think that you would’ve made a fly football coach(especially for your favorite squad)-I know I do!Starter eventually made a great amount of cheese that New Era does now.
