Panic! At the Disco Mistake Bad Porn for Art

3/2/07, 3:32 pm EST

What the hell is wrong with these Panic! At the Disco kids? This trailer from the band’s new video — for their song “Build God, Then We’ll Talk” (if you’re sixteen such titles seem way existential) essentially consists of a sheet-clutching porn star puckering up and miming sex while Brendon Urie screams “what a wonderful car-i-cature of intimacy.”

Guys, just because she’s wearing expensive panties and engaging in mimed fucking doesn’t make it arty. At first we thought of Panic! as a harmless group of unironic, self-obsessed, hormonal adolescents whose biggest sin was mistaking run on sentences for lyrics, but now we’re starting to think they might be more insidious than that.

No… their first mistake was picking up instruments and playing them.

Brian | 3/2/2007, 3:55 pm EST

I think the first mistake on their parents who couldn’t hold their booze for a night, or use fucking protection. Without their one night of passion we wouldn’t have to deal with these morons.

Ender | 3/2/2007, 4:00 pm EST

Weren’t these clowns just on the cover of Rolling Stone?

SATAN | 3/2/2007, 4:01 pm EST

I love how people critisize RS for loving Panic! and then they change thier tune the first chance they get. It’s kind of pathetic. RS was on thier bandwagon and then turned on them just because everyone hates them. RS, you should have stuck to your guns, taken it as a loss and moved on, but now we can see that childish people work at RS

nutnhoney | 3/2/2007, 4:03 pm EST

Agreed. Panic suck weiners.

. | 3/2/2007, 4:07 pm EST

blah to the person below. i hope rs is simply coming to their senses. they put them on the cover to sell magazines to 15 yr old girls. now let the truth come out.

B | 3/2/2007, 4:07 pm EST

She’s pretty hot. This video looks pretty entertaining to me.

Wayne | 3/2/2007, 4:16 pm EST

Unbelievable. Coming soon….RS all of a sudden turns on Fall Out Boy. Stay tuned.

NATAS | 3/2/2007, 4:44 pm EST

PANIC! SUX ASS!

Zachra | 3/2/2007, 4:56 pm EST

That song clip made me wish I had no ears. Listen to Springsteen if you want to learn how to cram too many syllables into one line, he’s the master. The way he pronounces “caricature” is simply dreadful.

Lip | 3/2/2007, 4:58 pm EST

Panic! At the Disco sucks, always have.

ljs with love... | 3/2/2007, 5:00 pm EST

dear emo/teenie boppers-

please stop listening to this shit. just because you have tons of disposable income doesn’t mean you should waste it on bad music. make your dollar count, go score up some beatles or clash records, or, for fuck sake, burn it–just don’t support shitty music, otherwise it’ll promote other shitty bands to make even more shitty music. it’s a vicious cycle. you’ll thank me when you’re older and wiser.

SATAN | 3/2/2007, 5:05 pm EST

. is a queer, they r clearly trying to cover thier ass, they’re not coming to thier senses

James | 3/2/2007, 5:08 pm EST

Good God did that suck. Cari-c-ture? What a bunch of lame ass clowns. Why did Kurt Cobain shoot himself? Probably because he had some sort of Nostradamus type of sixth sense and forsaw how shitty music was going to be in the new millenium, then decided to end it all. Between the douche bags of Panic! (what a crappy name), fall out boy (this band name sounds like something my 12 year old brother came up with), and 90% of rap I want to blow my brains out; HST style.

ishy with it | 3/2/2007, 5:08 pm EST

I’m too old for these emo types, but I took a listen to those boys and was surprised at how blatantly misogynistic they are. All their songs degrade girls who won’t sleep with them, or they degrade girls who would. Why anyone listens is beyond em.

april | 3/2/2007, 5:15 pm EST

come on people. don’t be too quick to judge a 34 second clip. it’s bad, i know. i was shocked when i saw it. but i’m still going to be watching the video when it premieres on monday. and i’m sure all you will too. admit it. you will, just so you can find another reason to hate panic. pathetic indeed. if you don’t like the band. don’t watch their stuff. we don’t need to know that you think their music is total crap. :] kthnx.

Anonymous | 3/2/2007, 5:20 pm EST

“No… their first mistake was picking up instruments and playing them.” ~Evan

Hahaha.

Andrea | 3/2/2007, 5:25 pm EST

I must say, even though I’m a fan of Panic!, I am not a fan of the video thus far. It’s going to far, and is not a bit appealing.

peter | 3/2/2007, 5:28 pm EST

now im not necessarily defending them, however, giving credit where credit is due.
for a bunch of 16 year old kids, the fact that they are able to write (with the assistance of producer matt squire) pop punk songs in the progressive manner that they have, it woulden’t surprise me that they would be able to think critically and existentially in the way they have been.
considering most kids their age are in garages writing sloppy bar chord driven punk rock and skipping class. its more than likely those same kids have no idea what cabaret style music is.
the fact that they have attempted to fuse two vastly different styles of music together is impressive enough.

i think you’re underestimating how in touch with certain events that these guys could actually be concerned with.

Build God, Then We’ll Talk” (if you’re sixteen such titles seem way existential)

i say let them have it. at least until we hear about them drinking 40oz and smoking blunts in their basement while their parents are gone to cancun

Monica | 3/2/2007, 5:40 pm EST

I thought their music was cool when i listened to the cd, but that music video is the stupidest thing i have ever seen, ive heard about the entertainment business being all about sex, but thats overdoing it. Thats never going to get onto Mtv, who the crap is going to watch that?! 40 year old men in their basement?

Ceara | 3/2/2007, 5:54 pm EST

Okay, people. First of all, if any of you have grown up in the Madonna, Janet Jackson, etc. age, you know that their stuff was 100 times way worse than this. I’ll admit, I’m shocked, and for the little virginal saint I am, I probably won’t watch it with my eyes completely open, but if you are an older fan of Panic! and RS… shut up… then you shouldn’t be shocked for yourselves about this video, but worry about your children.

And another point I’d like to make: you’re jumping on P!ATD for making “cheap porn” for their new video, so what are rap videos considered? It’s nothing we haven’t seen, guys, back off!

Oh and just to say something about Panic!, I’m a devouted fan of them and their recent videos are very disappointing, but music videos are only one way to sell CDs and since they’re writing new songs, there is no point to make “Build God, Then We’ll Talk” a video. Are they even in the thing?

Rollo Tomasi | 3/2/2007, 5:59 pm EST

This is just an attempt by Panic! to gain their first male fan over the age of 15.

zach | 3/2/2007, 6:28 pm EST

Ceara, since when do panic at the disco have older fans? unless you count 16 as older

Charlotte | 3/2/2007, 6:45 pm EST

I’m also a fan of the band, but this video, in my opinion, is pathetic. I’m aware of the content of the song, but this is taking it a bit too far. Obviously they can’t expect this video to make it onto MTV (and all the other music channels), so who exactly is this aimed at? Panic fans? With the majority of Panic fans being teenage girls, do they really think this video is going to be appealing to them?

Even if this is an attempt to attract older or male fans, it’s pretty desperate. They should let the music speak for itself.

matt | 3/2/2007, 7:04 pm EST

panic fans broke out my car window because i wrote a column bashing the shit out of them, it doesn’t change my opinion
i still fucking hate them
they fucking suck
listen to something good
as my friend says
stop feeding the fucking blank generation.

Christine | 3/2/2007, 7:39 pm EST

Okay I’m not a fan of Painc! so let me put that out there first.
Its really annoying when people give them credit for being young and writing songs. They are not the first. U2 started when they where that young and my friends have a band and they write their own songs(they even have a cd). Its really no big accomplishment.

This video is bad for a couple of reasons. One mixing God and sex is never a good situation, because i’m pretty sure she isn’t married. So there goes the whole premartial sex thing.
Second its not like a rap video. Rap videos do have scantily clad women, but they aren’t in their underwear miming sex.

I don’t know maybe I’m wrong. As far as I’m concerned Rock is fading with just a few stars shining off in the distance…those stars also happen to be older so when they die who is going to take over? Hopefully ,for the sake of evolution of Rock’n'Roll, not these guys.

Ceara | 3/2/2007, 7:52 pm EST

Zach, I went to one of their concerts and there was a lady well over 30 who was singing along and dancing. Make sure you check into things before you start anything with me.

I’m not defending them. I’m not happy about it either, and I’m a fan! But it’s nothing we haven’t seen, that’s all I’m saying!

Rudy | 3/2/2007, 8:19 pm EST

Panic! is horrible. Absolutely, completely horrible.

J. Mascis is GOD | 3/2/2007, 8:20 pm EST

Shite video from a shite band…

cara | 3/2/2007, 8:35 pm EST

wtf?!

cara | 3/2/2007, 8:38 pm EST

im sorry. but im a huge fan of them…but that sucked and completely retarded

SOMEBODY | 3/2/2007, 9:01 pm EST

well I think it’s very different from the music video that panic did in the past but in the matter of fact, the song itself talk about prostitution something like that so the video goes with the song anyways the whole video is not out yet so I dont know anything else but I personally think that the video is very disturbing

Anonymous | 3/2/2007, 9:07 pm EST

Too be honest i would watch the video, but mute the volume

Evan | 3/2/2007, 10:09 pm EST

I also have to say I love this crappy hype they’re building over another typical crappy song and video of theirs.

Joe | 3/2/2007, 10:20 pm EST

I need to get laid.

lucy | 3/2/2007, 10:39 pm EST

Don’t you think the same type of rythm and beat gets annoying, I don’t know, after one song? The songs may have different words but they all seem to be layed upon the same mind irking background.

wherezthubeef? | 3/2/2007, 10:51 pm EST

Hey, that’s my mother!

AP | 3/3/2007, 12:17 am EST

Ok not what i was hoping for but it does fit the song a bit so i dont mind it that much.

And also they dont want it shown on MTV…Ryan said ages ago that it wont be on MTV cause its going to be too vulgar… I’m excited to see the end product.

Shelby | 3/3/2007, 1:37 am EST

i think people are overreacting. you see worse on t.v. everyday and we haven’t even seen the whole video yet.

personally, i thought it was really funny. people need to stop taking shit so seriously. if you hate it so much, don’t watch it. it’s like everyone seems to be saying on here, you probably won’t see it on t.v. anyway.

Samantha | 3/3/2007, 2:18 am EST

As a good Panic! fan, I’m definitely going to watch the rest of this on monday, but still this tiny piece wasn’t as good as i thought it could get and i don’t think it would be their best video, and even though it does resembles what the lyric says, that half naked girl ruins it all when she starts to pretend whatever she is trying to convince us she’s doing and it ends leaving us with the taste that this was just another youtube video uploaded by a kid who had a lot of free time.
I think Panic! it’s weakening in their videos and it would’ve been a lot much better to have done the video for Time to Dance than to get so complicated trying to get the world to understand what they’re trying to express with their lyrics (if that’s what they meant by doning this video) by using one of the most complicated lyric on the whole album.

Samantha | 3/3/2007, 3:01 am EST

As a good Panic! fan, i must admit i’ll be watching the whole video on monday, but still this little piece i saw wasn’t as good as i thought it would get. I don’t believe it would be their best video and even though it does has to do with the lyric, the half naked girl ruins it all by doing that lame performance of whatever she’s trying to convince us she’s doing. By the time it ends you have the strong feeling that this was just another “video” made by a kid with a lot of free time.
I think Panic! it’s beginning to get weak on their videos ’cause maybe they rely that they would all have the same success if they look like I Write Sins… still i guess it would be better if they would’ve done the video for Time to Dance instead of getting so complicated trying to get the world to understand what they try ti express with their lyrics (if that’s what they were trying lol)by using one of the most difficult songs in the album to try to explain that.
And I think they should give it another try to ideas for their videos like the ones they had for Lying is the most fun… ’cause actually that was a really fresh and different from everything else i’ve ever seen but now they’re getting too bottled up in theyr circus acts and mimes and it’s really starting to get annoying. Three videos of the same are more than enough. They’re waisting their excelent material with these videos.
OR MAYBE I’M JUST THINKING IT TOO MUCH

Ry. | 3/3/2007, 6:09 am EST

Hey, for that person who said ’since when does Panic! have older fans’ I know people over 20 who like them, so shut your mouth!

Anywho, I laughed right through that trailor! XDDD

Jen | 3/3/2007, 8:38 am EST

I’m a HUGE panic! fan and this song is probably one of my top 3 out of the whole album. The video for it..I’m not liking it. I loved it when they had videos no one else would think of and when i saw this, it feels like they could’ve made this a better video without some girl miming sex. i dont know maybe it’s just me.
oh, and about older people not liking panic!, my mom and her friends love them soo..its not just teenyboppers.

annette | 3/3/2007, 9:32 am EST

ARE WE FOUR YEAR OLD?
we know we dont have to do this,
and if we will, WOULD NOT BE
BECAUSE OF HER “EXPENSIVE PANTIES”
WHOEVER WROTE THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO.
THEYRE ALOT OF VIDEO LIKE THIS.
AND WORSE. SO STFU

annette s | 3/3/2007, 9:42 am EST

Hey, look. There are worse videos like this, you may hate panic! as alot of people do,
but have you think of we? the ones who pay the web for a fan site of panic!
with like 20 competing? no, so OR YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP,
OR ILL MAKE A WEB OF YOU TELLING YOURE ARE THE ONE
WHO IS PLAYING AT THE VIDEO.
AND WHATS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU GOT NOTHING TO}
WRITE, I MEAN, WHATEVER WITH THE PANTIES,
I GUESS YOURE A 20 YEAR OLD WITHOUTHS BOYFR.

Evan, idont blame you…
for loving hilary duff.
its ok. Panic is awesome,
so everybody have their likes.
dont be rude, or ill own u.

Bob | 3/3/2007, 10:12 am EST

So, wait? She’s have sex with the clown’s spirit or something?

Maria | 3/3/2007, 11:16 am EST

i love Panic! to death….i think theyre songs are amazing. For this video im surprised….Build God is such an amazing song and it seems as if they didnt really put any effort into the video…..its not artsy its just gross….i still love them though….im just very confused on what theyre tryi8ng to prove…

and i know people will say stuff like “oh its amazing” or “you dont know anything” but honestly i think its ridiculous to think that a girl having imaginary sex with a mime is good or artsy or panic!
its honestly ridculous

if panic! is trying to say they’ve “grown up” already we get it!

im just very confused. Ive seen panic live 4 times and met them all….so dont say im just hating bc im not im speaking my mind and honest opinion.

HERO | 3/3/2007, 11:28 am EST

wendy... | 3/3/2007, 11:48 am EST

just my opinion, but this band is really terrible. granted all Art is to some degree contrived(except the few brilliant exceptions), this band and their music, look, sound and pretentions is soooo heavy-handed and forced that I can’t help but to feel bad for them and even their fans. Man, grow-up, lighten up and get over yourselves, maybe then you’ll create something that actually matters.

rubi. | 3/3/2007, 11:56 am EST

wtf.
are they planning on putting that shit on tv

RollingStone67 | 3/3/2007, 12:21 pm EST

I’m all in favor of rock bands making it big. Unfortunately these guys aren’t very good or interesting. Rolling Stone is once again promoting the flavor-of-the-month. In 2 years (or less) these guys will be a distant memory… Good Charlotte anyone?

noname | 3/3/2007, 12:38 pm EST

ok im a HUGE fan of P!ATD, but i had a completly different idea about this video.

Lennox | 3/3/2007, 12:56 pm EST

they sound bad and both the band and you should feel bad!

someone | 3/3/2007, 1:11 pm EST

to everyone who thinks all their fans are younger than 16–thats not true.. i’ve seen them twice, both times amaizing, both times oder people have been there..sure this video is going a little far, its not going to be on tv. shouldn’t people be listening to the music with their ears and not their eyes??? every band makes a big mistake, this was probably theirs

Deanna | 3/3/2007, 1:24 pm EST

I don’t know why they made a video like tihs, but I think that Panic! at the Disco is really good. I’ve seen them live twice, and they put on a good show. I don’t think you people have the right to judge their video. They are people, like everyone else, and if they beleive that this is the direction that they want to take, then good for them.

ima | 3/3/2007, 1:41 pm EST

why is this news on rollingstone.
so, what?
a music video trailer, thast’s little on the risque side, is released?
either rs is obssessed with this band or is’s a really slow news day.

Daimi | 3/3/2007, 1:59 pm EST

I’m a fan of Panic! At The Disco’s music, but I think this is just…wow. I like to watch music videos, not porn, thanks. Dissapointing, really. Wait a second, isn’t Ryan Ross like…6-years old? =|I already knew Brendon Urie was a pervert, now I know the whole band shares this perspective. Thanks, asshats. You disgust me.

Jackie whalen | 3/3/2007, 2:07 pm EST

how about we wait to judge this video until we see the whole thing?

maggie | 3/3/2007, 2:08 pm EST

this is my favorite song from their album and i really want to see the entire music video.
[i know not everybody's gonna like it. i think the band knows that too,
p!atd has always been like that.
you either really love it, or you really hate it. they don't go off popularity polls;they go by what they think is interesting/cool. ie: cirque troops, fishhead people, crazy makeup and costumes...]
now, it just seems so damn cool to hate them.
but, whatever …

letired | 3/3/2007, 2:08 pm EST

ahahaha! Did RS really just call them INSIDIOUS! Watching people flip out over that clip is my new favorite past time. [goes for the popcorn]

linda | 3/3/2007, 2:10 pm EST

pornomime is awesome!
i love panic! at the disco and i can’t wait for the entire video.
(wait, why is rollingstone being so mean to p!atd all of the sudden?)

Brianna.xx | 3/3/2007, 2:17 pm EST

I am a big fan of panic! at the disco and i think the tailrer is groos but i am not jugdeing it becuase i havent saw the whole video so i cant judge it till i seen the whole thing so all the people who have been judgeing the video stop because it might acually be better then we think but right now i think we can all say that the tarlier is very very gross!

Emma | 3/3/2007, 2:22 pm EST

Ok so the talier is gross but the whole video might accually be good! SO STOP JUDGEING THEM!!

layla | 3/3/2007, 2:25 pm EST

it would be funny if that wasnt the real video , just something they put up to get people talking

ohdear. | 3/3/2007, 2:26 pm EST

what on earth are they doing! young kids are gonna be watching this. i don’t think it’s entirely appropriate for a 12 year old to be perfectly honest.

Aly | 3/3/2007, 2:33 pm EST

They’re trying to get rid of all the 13 year old MTV fans, duh.
It’s a smart move. The fanbase will go down hill and then it’ll be like the good old days.
SWEET.

CHRISTINA & JOURDAN | 3/3/2007, 2:46 pm EST

SHIT LIKE THAT IS WHAT MAKES THEM GOOD.. THATS THEM AND THATS HOW THEY MAKE GOOD MUSIC.. SO STFU AND LEAVE THEM ALONE.. THEY HAVE GOOD TALENT.. GOOD SONGS.. AND MONEY.. AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE BRENDONNNN =].. SO JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE THIS IS THEM AND WHAT THEY LIKE TO DO AND THIS IS WAT MAKES THEM GOOD

... | 3/3/2007, 3:07 pm EST

For starters, spell Brendon’s name right. That right there shows that the writer of the article needs to do a little more research before jumping to conclusions. Secondly, RS put them on the cover then turn around and bash them for their new video? What’s the logic behind that???? This dissapoints me…

Katherine | 3/3/2007, 3:09 pm EST

Hey im 11 and i dont see anything wrong with this god grow up its just a girl having fake orgasms and a mime have fake orgasms with no one get over it!Its not even the goddamn thing its just a fucking trailer!

Emilee | 3/3/2007, 3:10 pm EST

personally, i think they’re growing up. people need to get over that they’re have more mature videos and songs. panic! is a band of 19-21 year old kids. people, chill, it’s a video.

Katherine | 3/3/2007, 3:18 pm EST

oh yea PS. i am not one of those wannabe teenagers and i wear makeup and lipgloss kind of girls.i dont even get those shallow fitial air heads so get it staight and panic doesnt deserve all this crticsm just because of a trailer k.

Jessica | 3/3/2007, 4:04 pm EST

I think it’s funny how this is bashing P!ATD’s new video clip..yet has the clip posted along with it. “this is bed, hey, let’s get it more coverage by posting it in RS!!” makes a LOT of sense…

Anonymous | 3/3/2007, 4:21 pm EST

This video was already used as a B-Side of Gnarls Barkley “Crazy” video.

Johnna | 3/3/2007, 5:07 pm EST

I love this song – the lyrics are fabulous and I feel that this video does not do the song justice. I do not know what Panic! is going for here, but porn is not the answer…

Stephanie | 3/3/2007, 5:26 pm EST

I don’t know why all of you are bitching because, God forbid, someone did something that you don’t like.

The solution to your problem is simple: if you don’t like the video, then DON’T watch it.

Idiotic_Hate | 3/3/2007, 6:25 pm EST

If you don’t like Panic!, when why are you here? If you don’t like Panic!, then why are you commenting? Save your stupid-ass comments for people who will actually listen, and then you might get a decent conversation out of it. Not all of this bull shit. “ohh i luv it!” “ohh i hate it!” Shut up and grow up, morons.
*flips bird*

Emma | 3/3/2007, 6:33 pm EST

I think the video is hilarious!!!I Love Panic! At The Disc’s music and their style never bores me. The song is amazing as well as all of their songs and I can’t wait for the video to come out!

WarHand | 3/3/2007, 7:26 pm EST

I hope these kids get trapped in a burning car and can’t get out after a car accident. I also hope I am there to watch them try to get out.

rockandrollgirl | 3/3/2007, 7:29 pm EST

RS – are you loyal to any band you pretend to support? The comments here make as if the writer feels that Panic! is receiving possibly too much attention while only a few weeks back RS had them on the cover.
WHATEVER!

BohemianRevenge | 3/3/2007, 7:42 pm EST

Hmmm…maybe they’ve finally realized that their music is total crap and are trying to use costumes and clowns (wtf?!) and makeup and porno to cover it up- distract us. ROTF

What losers. Emo losers.

samantha | 3/3/2007, 7:57 pm EST

Maybe they feel that by putting a porn star in the video they’ll somehow appear less gay.
Sorry, wrong again boys!

Anonymous | 3/3/2007, 8:05 pm EST

I think that RS got it right on this one. P!@THD is the most ridiculous band ever formed- the two dollar words (most of which are inaccurately used), the makeup, the completely unnecessary exclamation point in the name. What makes it worse is that they take themselves so seriously, like they are really are musical entrepreneurs or doing something significant. The only people who would find this music video remotely edgy or exciting are wearing training bras and smackers lip gloss.

Bitch. | 3/3/2007, 8:08 pm EST

Okay, all you ignorant fools posting comments on here, don’t even know a goddamned thing about what emo is. Comparably, this video is better than most of the sex based Hip Hop videos out there today. So please proceed to fuck yourself and shut the hell up. They aren’t Emo, End of story you morons.

Anonymous | 3/3/2007, 8:22 pm EST

I hope u burn hell u insolent sob

Anonymous | 3/3/2007, 8:34 pm EST

I don’t think their intent was to be “arty.” Isn’t it obvious that a girl having sex with herself, while looking rather trashy doing so, is anything other than very artistic? (But rather outrageous and, when you get down to it, quite amusing.) Personally, I could picture the band having a laugh at all the attention it’s created.

And for this, “At first we thought of Panic! as a harmless group of unironic, self-obsessed, hormonal adolescents whose biggest sin was mistaking run on sentences for lyrics,” I can not even figure out where to start. So, what you state is an opinion. But based on what? Can I see some evidence? I mean, what makes this video trailer scandal unironic? The fact that it sparked such attention while being, as you say, terrible, can be viewed as ironic in itself. And while, yes, the band is rather young, the fact that they’ve grown up in a society where everything is based, majorly, on appearence doesn’t not quailfy them as, “self-obsessed.” And since when was it a sin to have run on sentences as lyrics? Since when has it been a sin not to have sentences at all in lyrics?

And I know, I know, you’re trying to be witty and all by aiming mockery at a band you recently placed on your cover, but by doing this you’re just making yourself look stupid.

Forgive Panic if they didn’t live in a trailer for three years, playing shows to five people for three pennies each. Forgive Panic if they’re well known because-God fobid-they’ve grown up in pop culture and have caught the nasty mainstream. Forgive Panic for posting this video trailer that, OH -NO!, seemed slightly provocative. Forgive Panic for being slightly more sucessful than you.

Lisa | 3/3/2007, 8:38 pm EST

First you put Panic! on the coveryour magazine saying how great they are and now you trash them. Make up your mind already.

Emma | 3/3/2007, 8:47 pm EST

Alright…first off…everyone is reacting over the trailer…you haven’t even seen the FULL video yet.

I saw the trailer myself and was like, ‘W.T.F?’ ’cause it does seem very…well…stupid actually.

But again, the whole song is basically talking about a whore house…if you even bother to listen to the lyrics.

I say we should all wait and see the full product before everyone starts screaming ‘OMG PANIC! IS INTO PORN!’. It’s actually quite annoying really.

how can you people be so mean to panic! They are really sweet people if you ask me and i think that they wanted to stick out more and not be a regular band…you people need help(accept for the fans who stick up for them like me…)

Disco04 | 3/3/2007, 10:54 pm EST

WTF! They put then on their magazine then they insult them, very harsh. BACK STAPPERS!!

CCR5150 | 3/3/2007, 11:02 pm EST

What’s a stapper? Does that have something to do with the lead singer from Creed?

Backstabber Police.Caught you! | 3/3/2007, 11:26 pm EST

Put them in your magazine, then insult them. You know how great they are….you are just trying to keep up with what you think the majority likes. I mean, be truthful for once, other than the article about Panic!….BACKSTABBERS….

Eh. | 3/3/2007, 11:33 pm EST

Okay so I LOVE panic! and i’ve been to 3 concerts (I’ve never seen anyone under 16)
ANYWAYS
This video is so gross but thats what you get when you give 4 teenage boys money to make a video anyway they want it. there pigs get over it we either totally love them or cant stand them for it. either way i don’t think they care.

And whats with rollingstone i dont get it one week they are your cover story and you have videos out for them and the three weeks later your bashing them.? yeah immature much.

Andiethegirl | 3/4/2007, 2:48 am EST

First of all…Rollingstone is only trying to please the popular opinion. Panic! at the Disco is popular so they put them on the cover. However, now those people want to know why they have a porn star writhing in the air on their video, so they write about it. They’re a magazine and they want people to READ IT! They have no bias…thats it
Also, I’ve read all of Panic! at the Disco’s lyrics, titles, and watched all their video and i had come to notice before that there is a very strong misogynistic tendency to this band, it is the underlying theme of all of it. This only proves it to me. Their last single “Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off” is the most comprehensive vision of this…and one of the worst titles for this i have ever seen. They are a bunch of barely legal boys who got stung by a nasty girl and have now decided to use their art to deem all of women as evil. My point being…they need to get over it and find a girl who will treat them right, because they do exist, instead of using what could by talent as a way to establish women as an inherently evil sect.
(oh, and don’t respond to this unless yo know the meaning of the word misogyny beyond the dictionary definition you just looked up!)
Finally, it might be JUST a video, but throughout history it is through art that misogyny has most commonly spread itself…prove me wrong.

Sarah | 3/4/2007, 3:04 am EST

“Aly | 3/3/2007, 2:33 pm EST

They’re trying to get rid of all the 13 year old MTV fans, duh.
It’s a smart move. The fanbase will go down hill and then it’ll be like the good old days.
SWEET.”

Oh Aly, please don’t tease… wouldn’t that be amazing!?

Natalie | 3/4/2007, 6:19 am EST

I’m a huge fan of panic. I think it’s what they want. And if the video blows, then Panic! will know that that’s not what their fans want and tone it down a bit, because as much as the band should respect their fans wishes, we, as the fans (or bashers whatever) should respect what they are trying to convey. The song is about prostitution in Vegas so hence the vulgarity. It’s not going to be on MTV, so it’s ok. Maybe they went a little far, but I’m sure they aren’t self-obsessed, they’ll learn their mistakes and make the music videos more appealing.
At least it’s something different- not the same old dancey-Britney crap you always get or just the band singing- not that there’s anything wrong with the band singing- but there should be a story behind the song- so make it! (which is what Panic! is trying to do- but it need not neccessarily be the least controversial thing right?) They’re trying to take a risk. Rolling Stone is too harsh, i mean, you haven’t even seen the full-length video.
Rolling Stone- you put them on the cover and praise them to bits in your last issue then you bash them up saying that you thought they were self-obsessed? What sort of justice is that?
Fall Out Boy is going to be on in March. Are you going to bash them next?

Johnny | 3/4/2007, 6:24 am EST

Has No1 Seen The Placebo Video for Speacial Needs Thats both parties miming sex but there is an underlying message through the song album and video. tthe shots in this are half as graffic as a kid can see in a m15 movie or latenight mtv latenight videos. this is just a journalistic biast to a mainstream middle class america/world views

Whitnea | 3/4/2007, 12:26 pm EST

Ok, everyone bein’ all “Oh my god! One second they’re the cover story, the next they’re getting bashed,” should look at it this way: They were the cover story before the material they are being bashed about came to light. It didn’t exist when RollingStone was loving them so.

Brianna.xx | 3/4/2007, 1:07 pm EST

Ok it is really gross talier but just wait to see the whole video tomorrow! Is it just me or is that talier from Gnarls Barkley new video?!?!?

Alex | 3/4/2007, 1:09 pm EST

“ishy with it | 3/2/2007, 5:08 pm EST

I’m too old for these emo types, but I took a listen to those boys and was surprised at how blatantly misogynistic they are. All their songs degrade girls who won’t sleep with them, or they degrade girls who would. Why anyone listens is beyond em.”
okay what the hell?!? have u even attempted to understand the songs? i have listened to them for a very long time and i dont feel degraded one bit!! so if u dont listen to “these emo types” dont even get me started on that comment, then wat do u listen to R&B? cause if u ask me most of those songs ar far more degradin than anything ryan ross could ever come up withand how do u get degrading towards women out of songs like Camisado, or I Constantly thank God for Esteban, or Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks, you know wat ill just list them all but ill use the initials
Songs by Panic! that are not degrading towards women in any way(which is all of them but ill list the ones that have nothing to do wit girls at all)
-the only difference…
-london beckoned…
-…tacks for snacks
-camisado
-i constantly thank…
those songs have no mention of women watsoever and the ones that do dont degrade women, if you are offended by them then you are one hyper sensitive chick

Marina | 3/4/2007, 1:53 pm EST

this screams pathetic.
jeez, you put them on the cover…you get a few critics saying how much of a joke they are, and you totally change your opinion.
if anyone is a joke, it is this magazine!

Sarah.a.xx | 3/4/2007, 2:29 pm EST

i love panic! at the disco and if you dont like it then dont listen to oh and stop judgeing them if they want the video to be like that they can and if you dont like it dont wacth it and omg brianna.xx is right it is really gross talier but just wait to see the whole video tomorrow! and yea that talier is part of a Gnarls Barkley new video!

Marina | 3/4/2007, 2:58 pm EST

and for all of you calling this….
‘porn’…
IT’S NOT!!!!!

Miranda | 3/4/2007, 3:12 pm EST

Ugh, RS makes me SICK. The whole.. air, the attitude of this magazine makes me want to puke. Seriously, pick a side and stay there! The article above is absolutely based off nothing and really makes me question your choice of authors.

Panic!, even if it might be a matter of taste, are highly talented and the fact that they make a music video that won’t be aired on MTV should be admired. Most bands adjust their videos to what the producer or the audience wants and that’s weak. I think most fans will appreciate the fact that Panic! stick to THEIR taste and do whatever they like. It proves the fact that they are not mainstream at all.

And by the way. Do some research while you’re at it. It’s Brendon, not Brendan.

Sarah | 3/4/2007, 4:04 pm EST

i am a Panic! At the Disco fan, but i’m discusted with this. to be honest, if it weren’t for all their 12 year old fans they wouldn’t be as huge as they are now. don’t they realize that 98% of their fans are still wearing footsie pajamas? ungrateful little douchebags.

Anonymous | 3/4/2007, 4:30 pm EST

this post is a sad excuse for journalism. so you can insult a ban dusing SAT vocabulary. (big whoop!).
anyways, this only a thirty second preview.
i love p!atd and i can’t wait to see the entire video on monday.

Emma | 3/4/2007, 5:51 pm EST

I agree.

Elijah | 3/4/2007, 5:52 pm EST

And I’m sorry if I sounded, I dunno, terrible? in my comments. I’m having a bad day and this didnt’ help.

Evin | 3/4/2007, 7:21 pm EST

Ishy With It :I’m too old for these emo types, but I took a listen to those boys and was surprised at how blatantly misogynistic they are. All their songs degrade girls who won’t sleep with them, or they degrade girls who would. Why anyone listens is beyond em. — Okay, Ishy, hunny are you 13 -15? If so re-check the meaning of degrade. Not once has their music degraded a woman. Have you taken a listen to the carbon copy stuff on the radio? Oh- I know you must be one of those “Rapper” types? No? Well, let me set you straight… Panic! = not degrading. They’re music is comical at most. As for being too old for emo… don’t get me started on that. I am probably old enough to be your mother… if not I am pretty dern close. And I think that Panic! is not only entertaining but they are pretty revolutionary for the music they play… they stick to what they know and they know it well. As for RS- your journalist (if you could call her that) should consider resigning effective immediately. Her pathetic excuse for journalism and her blatant ignorance is quite evident. Do you people not perform interviews when you hire your writers? If so I know a three year old who would fit in well there.

C | 3/4/2007, 8:15 pm EST

Panic! owns. Buh-bye.

Alexus Lynn Day | 3/4/2007, 8:16 pm EST

I think they can do anything and everyone will love them. Seriously, look at Micheal Jackson. Lotsa of people love him and look what he did. Way worse than a girl miming sex.

Dmen | 3/4/2007, 9:34 pm EST

There is a very small yet unnoticed thing in this country that should be excerized regularly but rarely is…with exception of P!ATD video for build god….its called freedom of speech they are allowed to express themselves in any way they want u dont like it dont watch no said u had too anyway Rock on Boyz and to all the ppl who say Panic is emo THEY ARENT THEY ARE A VERY ENTERTAING BAND leave it at that I am a 25 stepmother who happens just so HAPPENS to like Panic so if u cant appreciate Panic then i guess ur either too old or too stupid Ciao

PanicLOVERR1990 | 3/4/2007, 10:03 pm EST

okay. fine i understand people can have their veiws but rolling stone you shouldnt one minute love them then next put them down for stepping alittle closer to the edge compared to all teh oter bands out there.they are willing to take a chance and instead of giving them a chance its like your disowning them because they are doing something different. screw you guys because your jealous. thats all jealous because their making it faster and better then you ever dreamed possible. yeah so whatif their boysa nd so what if its alittle r-rated all of you know darn well you’ve seen worst in some retarded movie in te theater that you payed 20 bucks to see. get over it if its too “bad” for you to bear then simply don’t watch it.so now that i have said my share grow up sit downa nd shut your mouth while Panic! makes some thing of their lives.

Amanda | 3/4/2007, 10:07 pm EST

You see how many Panic! fans are here to stand up. Come on people, the music industry dosen’t care about a 3:30 minute video clip. They care if the song is good, sells, wins awards. Now panic! did more than that, they let us try and figure out more of their songs. Panic’s videos are way different to the pop videos of today, all of their songs are about love and heartbreak. Panic’s are more personal and relate more to us. Life dosen’t revolve around love. A Video Clip shouldn’t cause this much drama.. Panic! rules!!

PATD along with emo is the worst thing that happend to rock music since all the grunge wannabe’s popped up after Nirvana & Pearl Jam. Thankfully Oasis and their followers like Kasabian and Jet still give us adults hope. Hopefully the Gallagher Brothers will rip into these want to be mimes with a vengance. They have no talent and should be doing a crap show off broadway if they want to dress up and be pretentious. Keep the make-up. I want to here classic tunes like Live Forever, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Don’t Look Back In Anger, Lyla, Let There Be Love, Wonderwall, Supersonic, & …….
So I say let the clowns in make-up do whatever they want for the videos I’ll just put in Familiar to Millions and watch the last of the true Rockstars have at it.

ishy with it: thank you…i didn’t see your comment before but you’re absolutely right. How come no one else
can see this.
Oh, and if we supposedly “don’t get it” then please explain because i would love to know. Seriously…what ARE they trying to say then that’s not completely degrading to women. Freedom of speech yes, but if someone’s message is so blatantly misogynistic it is our moral obligation to defend ourselves and tell them we won’t buy their shit.
Any girl who is a fan of Panic! at the disco (or any music that has such misogynistic tendencies) should be ashamed of themselves.

jaco | 3/4/2007, 11:26 pm EST

You should also add that if they were a hip-hop group then RS would give noting but compliments.
RS is scared of rappers.

DebraRuth | 3/4/2007, 11:34 pm EST

Oh ye judgmental masses! Maybe the FBR team just cut the trailer to get your attention–all press is good press! Let’s see what they’ve saved for us to see on Monday. Hopefully they know how very much we Panic! fans want to see the band perform, and those brilliant young dudes are notably missing from the trailer. So, let’s see the rest of the video before we judgeth too harshly.

soulpower. | 3/5/2007, 12:37 am EST

if you don’t like them, why bother listening to them and throwing comments on how you miss older times when you know it’s going to spark fire. if they want to throw on make up and dance around, let them.
as for the video, i have really not much to say about it.

heh | 3/5/2007, 2:47 am EST

i would love to know what the panic! boys think of all this.

Jack | 3/5/2007, 3:44 am EST

Panic is nothing more than a flash-in-the-pan band using their short time in the lime light to make a quick buck. They’ve brought nothing innovative to the world of music and they’ll leave nothing that will influence future generations of musicians. Their throngs of vapid adoring fans will forget Panic’s existence just as soon as the next trendy band spews their catchy uninspired garbage into the fan’s awaiting ear drums. These bands exist cause way too many people like to eat shit.

lydia | 3/5/2007, 6:42 am EST

panic! is awesome.

Jayme | 3/5/2007, 7:35 am EST

You know what’s really irritating? People keep saying the members of Panic! are 16. They’re not. They are 19-21 years old, which is a major difference. And if you don’t like Panic!, why did you watch the video in order to bash them, hmm? o.0

Jayme | 3/5/2007, 7:36 am EST

And since they are over the age of eighteen, they are no longer adolescents, they are… oh yeah, that’s right, ADULTS!

satine bed sheets... | 3/5/2007, 9:07 am EST

wow! ive just read through half the comments on this and …wow!theres some hate comments,i was suprised with the comment rs wrote! people hate the video because it is something that has never been done like this before, they could stand in a warehouse or out on the street and sing to the camera but that wouldnt be the panic! at the disco fans love. their videos are unusual and tell a story! how can you get the whole conscept from a 30 second piece?! i mean for fuck sake they won an award for best video! get it yet? their good at what they do! they actually take interest and dont let some half soaped director ruin their reputation for being different! i suggest unless people have actual constructive critasism, shut the fuck up!

John | 3/5/2007, 10:05 am EST

18 year olds are only adults in the eyes of the law and pedophiles. They aren’t even allowed to drink, so society really doesn’t consider 18 year olds adults.

Mark | 3/5/2007, 10:34 am EST

“18 year olds are only adults in the eyes of the law and pedophiles. ”

either way it is all about getting screwed, right?

metalkills | 3/5/2007, 11:42 am EST

these posts just go to show how small minded 80% of the people here are. its just like high school….if they hate it…so will I! fucking grow up already. if tv on the radio put a half naked chick in their video you would all be orgasming over it because everyone knows if you want music cred these days you have to like certain bands and hate others.

metalkills | 3/5/2007, 11:49 am EST

Warhand, that joke has been used repeatedly on here you unoriginal bastard

NND | 3/5/2007, 11:50 am EST

Panic! rules… Idiots, if you hate the trailer, why are you watching it? They are the best, you can’t change that with a stupid comment…

Miranda | 3/5/2007, 2:31 pm EST

I reealllly don’t understand how an Oasis fan actually has the nerve to talk about wannabes. I mean. Dude, Oasis is a complete Beatles ripoff (And yeah, I do like Oasis, I just don’t think they’re original.) so please don’t whine about Panic.

And to the people who say Panic! is emo.. Well, you have NO clue what you’re talking about. Emo = emocore and comes from DC punk so I don’t know what your comparison is. Wikipedia is your friend.

Jake | 3/5/2007, 2:37 pm EST

NND
Music critics! rule… Idiot, if you hate the comments, why are you reading them? They are smarter than you, you can’t change that with another lame comment…

Jake

How do you know you hate the comments if you don’t read them? Just asking =)

dudely duder | 3/5/2007, 2:56 pm EST

on a side note…has anyone seen the commercial for that new baseball video game that has a nirvana song in it? isn’t that sort of…fucked up since jocks used to make cobain’s life a living hell? ah well, what do i know?

heh heh
The same way I know I hate menudo without having to try each and every recipe for it. Prior experience.

Panic People | 3/5/2007, 3:07 pm EST

they dont suck. you suck. when you think about it, they got away with music video awards with people walking around in fish tanks and a wedding gone terribly bad, and a strip club being raided. so now they have a pornomime. so what? we’ll see when they win awards for this.

jack | 3/5/2007, 3:29 pm EST

why the fuck can’t people just accept the hole emo think in response to ealier comments, so what if you think emo music/emo whatever is shit, why the fuck should anyone give a toss, and why the hell can’t you people stop your stupid whining, just because a few smacktarded heavy metal loving twats don’t like it, why does that mean that other people can’t, people are saying for emo kids to grow up, why the hell don’t you twats that have to make your opinion known to everyone do abit of growing up, and as for Oasis, Liam Gallagher is about as talented song writter as my nan, and my nan is terrible at writting songs….Anyways rant over, and as for the video, you can’t really talk about it untill the actul full version is released.

Miranda | 3/5/2007, 3:30 pm EST

I think that’s a little close-minded, though. If you have a honest opinion I think you should listen to other people’s arguments.. But this is wayyy off-topic..

I think this whole article is a waste of space and time. The woman who wrote this might find them morons, but apparently the other half of the world doesn’t.

And I bet Panic! make more money than she does, anyway.

Beelzebub | 3/5/2007, 3:45 pm EST

Hehe my dear minions, see what happens when you sell your soul–you get fame! May your porn be plenty and guitar solos be limited.

Love always,
X

p.s. Dearest Ryan–EAT!

p.p.s. If this is an attempt to get rid of the “teenies” and go back to the “good ole’ days”, this will just get the hormonally unbalanced, 14-year-old girls even more psychotic. Hold no hope for “the good ole’ days” for there wasn’t much. Panic rose to fame much too quickly to create a ‘older’ and ‘newer’ fanbase so the self-proclaimed old hardcore fans can, well, dry hump air.

Jake | 3/5/2007, 4:11 pm EST

Miranda
Well my whole comment was meant as an obvious play on NND’s post. I’m not saying I think that people shouldn’t read other’s opinions and discuss their owns, just pointing out the irony in NND’s post.

From what I’ve read Jack put it best. “These bands exist cause way too many people like to eat shit.” Just because you and “half the world” like their plain and pointless music doesn’t make it good music. Bands like these serve to the lowest common denominator and people like myself and the other half of the world have higher standards. Call us elitist or whatever but bands like Panic! at the Disco will leave nothing but small shit smear across a page of music’s history.

Kirsten | 3/5/2007, 5:00 pm EST

haha… I laughed through the video myself. And I also laughed right through all these I hate Panic! comments. You all are entitled to your own opinion, but I find them to be fantastic artists. Maybe if you take the time to listen to their music instead of judging them because of the things they do then you’ll have a different opinion. I also read that they won’t inspire future musicians. Well, I am learning acoustic and electric guitar AND piano just because of them. They are different than any other musicians out there and that is what interests me. They have introduced me to new types of music that I had never heard and would never have heard without them. So to them I am greatful. They do inspire me, mostly with their lyrics since I am a writer. Also I’m reading all this stuff about the “teenies”. Well my mom is in love with Panic! also so I have to say I don’t agree with that. Also, the teenies are mostly in love with the band because of the boys’ good looks and I have to say it is not the same to me and I am a 16 year old girl. I understand that you all don’t like Panic! Believe me, I think everyone gets it. But please don’t waste your breathe on a band you don’t like. True Panic! fans will defend them till the end.

i saw it fools the video | 3/5/2007, 5:17 pm EST

Dmen | 3/5/2007, 5:24 pm EST

Ok I saw the video and to all the uptight, anal retentive people who don’t like Panic at the Disco or DID NOT like the video….u are entitled to your opinion However Panic fans are almost as loyal and crazy as Slayer fans( which I happen to be 1) A TRU musician can appreciate all art and musical genius such as te Build God video
Its an artistic interpretation a very innovative band
any comments 4 me

first of all, the memebers of panic! at the disco are 19,20, and 21. they are not adolescents, they are adults.
anyways, i, for one, respect them for taking a chance with their music and videos.
i just saw the entire video and i thought it was beautiful (not porn).

Jason | 3/5/2007, 9:53 pm EST

Oh my god! OH MY GOD! I HAVE AN OPINION! OMGGGGGGGG. Why are we celebrating stupidity, really?

Jack | 3/6/2007, 1:21 am EST

Kristin makes an excellent point on how fans will defend Panic! to the bitter(sweet) end. It doesn’t matter what they do, what kind of crap they put out and call art/music, Panic! fans will cry out adulations like mindless drones. They could put out a whole album of fart sounds (which would be more innovative than anything they’ve done so fat) and Panic! fans would think it’s genius.

Kristin, like you said, you are only 16, my tastes in music were shit at your age too. Panic! may influence you to start playing music but hopefully as you grow and your tastes mature you’ll be influenced by better bands… otherwise your music is probably going to suck more than theirs. Their lyrics inspire you cause they are meant to appeal to young teens at their maturity and vocabulary level.
And all this crap “my mommy loves Panic! 2!” doesn’t mean anything. Guess what your mom’s taste in music sucks too.

Rin | 3/6/2007, 7:50 am EST

I dont care what anyone says about Panic!. I think this video was a way to express something. It doesnt mean that theyre just horny 19,20, and 21 year olds. Who ever said they wanted this to be the video? I personally think the Build God, Then We’ll Talk video is amazing.

No one’s calling it art, so their not mistaking. Besides.. you all wrote this even before the actual complete video came out, so you can’t say your oppinion. I’ve seen the full video and I can say it is very well thought, even though it is what I would call.. special and different.

Mary Neal | 3/6/2007, 5:05 pm EST

What the hell is wrong with YOU? The video has a great concept. I’m sorry you have bad taste in music and don’t like Panic!, but you don’t have to be a bitch about it! Panic! is an UNBELIEVABLE band. Rolling Stone- honestly! You guys have really been going down lately, and this proves y’alls ignorantness.

who cares | 3/6/2007, 7:06 pm EST

HELLLOO!!
There 19!!!!!!! And if u dont like the video, stuff it, because one day, ur gonna get ganged by obsessed panic! fans!!!!!!!!
and at the rate ur goin, it shouldn’t be too far!

Leah | 3/6/2007, 8:49 pm EST

Im sorry for those of you who like Panic! but even if you do this video is terrible. How would you feel about your child or someone like that to watch this? This video should not be shown publically. For them to mention God in the tittle even and have a women basiclly having sex with herself is terrible. I also believe when they show the part where its a closeup of her underwear or between her legs that is basiclly porn. look if you want to watch porn go to a porn site but music is not all about sex.

Leah again | 3/6/2007, 8:53 pm EST

that is to watch the full video it is terrible. they could have done alot of other stuff for the video- their audience wether they like it or not is aimed twoards younger teenagers (i am sorry if you are offended) you can listen to it if your older but that isnt the target audience. You mine as well throw a 13 year old a porn magizine if your goning to let them watch this.

Leah for the third time-bored | 3/6/2007, 8:58 pm EST

okay so i just finish watching the whole video on youtube.

the sign in it says “now showing pornomine” “sold out” where the member of panic! at the disco is mimicking sex on stage.

wow….

ParanoiaAmericana | 3/8/2007, 1:18 am EST

if the quality (technical) of the whole video hadn’t been the making of some mtv hotshot this could’ve worked it’s way into something interesting, but this just proves awkward for the trl crowd. and isn’t the lead singer of panic! supposed to be a mormon or some abstinance flaunting religion like that?

Evin | 3/8/2007, 11:48 pm EST

Here we go again… to Andiethegirl… hunny, lol, I’m almost 30 years old and you know what I enjoy listening to Panic! Their music is different and unique. Though I see why some wanna-be feminist in high school ro fresh out would see it as degrading. It’s really not, look at the lyrics, listen to the song… about 60% of their songs dont even mention women… now I do admit that their song I Constantly Thank God for Esteban is a sad attempt to mock (and sadly, it does) the Catholic church… I am Catholic… the rest of their music is amazingly accurate for how boys THAT age think. Look, we don’t all throw our hands in the air when a Rap song comes on the radio and say ,”This is so degrading to women!” Do you? I honestly doubt it. Sit back and take a listen… now think about their age… Do you see how it all fits? As for women being ashamed of themselves listening to this music… who are you to judge what is and isn’t something to be proud of as a woman to listen to?I truly doubt that with all of your inexperience in life you could make that sound judgement. These boys have a voice and more people should shut their traps take a listen to what these kids are saying and give them many kudos for what they are doing. And lastly to kevinalexander23… as for the hope for adults music bit… that is a sad outlook on things… i enjoy some of the music you listed… but the music type you listed and the music type that Panic! and other bands/singers (Fall Out Boy, 30 Seconds to Mars, the Killers, etc) it’s a whole new musical style. They don’t follow the same musical restrictions that these other bands look at. So don’t judge these new kids on the older stuff… it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Quite frankly, I don’t care if you like these kids or not, but as a High School music teacher I found them to be quite interesting and different. Their music is not meant to be taken seriously… So for those of you who hate them, well I feel badly for you for being a bit close-minded to new things and for those of you who do like them, I am glad to see that not everyone is hypocritical in the way they judge music… as most of the people in here who have downed the band undoubtedly listen to the Rap Genre or even still harder Rock. Thank you and if you don’t like this post, there is no need to repost yet another look at why I am wrong or should be “ashamed” as thus far I can see only one argument and I am a bit sick of reading that one opinion over and over.

Chloe' | 3/9/2007, 4:50 pm EST

Everyone stop makeing such rude comments, Panic! At The Disco is the hottest band now and will be for the next 20 years. And those people that don’t like Panic! At The Disco, I say just go suck your own ass because they rock. Get used to you motherfuckers… ROCK ON PANIC! FANS!!!

Justin | 3/10/2007, 1:40 pm EST

Evan as a music teacher you should be ashamed and know better that there is nothing special about Panic. They are basically a poor man’s version of The Mars Volta. As a music teacher you should know bands like Panic and Fall Out Boy are empty and meaningless. They are just another example of kids who learn a few power chords, string them together with mediocre lyrics, and produce some weak catchy drivel that will sell a few million copies to people who have no real understanding of what good music is. If you really are a music teacher you should be able to dissect their music and accurately explain what elements of it are “different and unique” (way to be redundant) or interesting. And no I’m not close minded to new music. I’m always looking for new talented bands such as Eagles of Death Metal or IMA Robot. I just have standards.

Justin | 3/10/2007, 1:41 pm EST

sorry make that Evin not Evan.

Miranda | 3/11/2007, 2:29 pm EST

Personally I find Eagles of Death metal one of the most messy and untalented bands ever. You really shouldn’t take them as an example, because then, when you say you have standards you don’t really make a good impression. Besides that, Panic! doesn’t even use power chords.

In my opinion when you make music it’s about whether you like it yourself or not, and that’s obviously what Panic! is sticking to, too. And that makes them more meaningful than any other band could possibly be.

Fan | 3/12/2007, 2:30 pm EST

THIS VIDEO ROCKS AND I DUN CARE PANIC STILL GETS FANS

Margaret | 3/13/2007, 12:08 am EST

“…harmless group of unironic, self-obsessed, hormonal adolescents…”

i was not aware that you are still a hormonal adolescent at the ages of 19-21. (i am being sarcastic. the writer of this charming ditty has to go do some research.) moving on…

i like how the video (the FULL video) makes a point in such a way. i think the trailer is somewhat misleading, and that you should watch the actual video before making judgments about it. it is more tasteful than the trailer leads you to think.

and Pornomime in the video is not acted by a member of the band. what gave people that idea?

SatanClaus | 3/13/2007, 4:10 am EST

Just like Evin I’m a highschool musicteacher and find PATD a refreshing, original and talented band. It’s quite embarrasing how some people on this blog degrade PATD mistakingly thinking they have the ability to judge quality in music. What’s even worse is the unholy alliance of feminsts, conservatives and religious people, who get offended everytime
they get confronted with themes of uncontrolled sexuality. Trying to hide it or illegalize it doesn’t make it disappear. It’s a part of human nature, has always been, and will always be – why not accept it?

kayle | 3/13/2007, 11:41 pm EST

oi, any body hoo, on this website is baggin out panic! DONT. coz they are the best band ever, so is fall out boy, JUSTIN!!!!, u r rong, in every single way. panic at the disco hav awsum lyrics, mad music, nd if u dont like it then ur not human, kk?? just thort wed get that sorted earlier rather than later.

thanx…

Panic! Rules!!!!!! | 3/22/2007, 3:42 am EST

Look All Of Yous. . Panic! Rules There Is Nuthin You Can Do Bout It So Give Up They Are Popular And Are Way Better Than All You Haters Will Eva B! I Know They R Awesome Nuthin Can Change My Mind Or Any Other Fans So Stop Watchin Em If Ya Hate Em Sooo Bad Aint Nuthin More 2 It Laterz.

Justin | 3/22/2007, 5:23 am EST

Miranda you must be kidding. At least EoDM can put together a serious guitar solo and they don’t sound like everyone else unlike PatD. The problem is your tastes are too narrow. All of your favorite bands probably sound very similar to each other with but a few variants. And PatD = most meaningful band ever because they lack the creativity to experiment and reinvent themselves? Your logic makes my head want to implode. With how many legendary bands there have been over the history of music how can you possibly think that Panic comes close to any single one of them. You want meaning? Go check out what Nine Inch Nails is doing with Year Zero. There Survivalism won’t likely be getting any play time on MTV as they push the boundaries much further than Panic.

SatanClaus as another self-proclaimed “music teacher” I put the question to you too after analyzing PatD, how can you say that there music is refreshing or original? Explain and give specific example. Make sure your answer is double spaced, in AP style, plus a minimum of two citations.

Kayle: love ya, don’t ever change. You are the perfect Panic groupie.

Jake | 4/2/2007, 7:52 am EST

And exactly the point, Panic! is all about making money, not making good music. Plenty of better musicians out there not making a dime.

I hope this clears things up. | 4/4/2007, 2:58 am EST

Okay, at first I thought that “Build God, Then We’ll Talk” was pushing the limits. Then, a couple weeks after it premiered, I saw a video about the man who plays the mime in Build God…and this man really is a mime (unless the video was a fake, but it seemed real) and Build God reflects some of his life, as odd as it sounds…so before you judge something you should research a bit…

Danielle | 4/13/2007, 10:01 pm EST

I’ll admit I am a bit between indecision about this.

Panic! At The Disco lyrics are really amazing. Their video makes sense to them, yes.

But what message are they sending? Ia gree that they are about making money mostly now and considering their fans are all fourteen eyar old girls who want them in their pants I don’t think making a video like this was a well thought out choice.

What are they trying to convey with this? “We don’t want to be on MTV” or something? I mean alright cool then just say ‘no’ to interviews but this seems a bit stupid.

Their statement is all wrong but their video makes sense to their lyrics.

They are a good band and I’m not trying to bash them but I mean come on, what the hell was this?

keighty | 4/15/2007, 12:50 am EST

what haters,
if you even bothered listening to the lyrics, then you would understand how good they are. their music is original, they are original. stop comparing them to others cause of course their not going to be the same. thats the whole point. yeah that video was a little carried away but that doesnt mean they suck, just maybe that video. so stop complaining and get over yourselfs. everyone else has.

Cassie. | 4/15/2007, 12:52 am EST

panic at the diso,
is a good band and will always be good.
so stop talking shit just cause they screwed up on one fcking video.
move on with your damn lives already!

Alexandra | 5/3/2007, 5:22 pm EST

I love panic! at the disco, but I’ve come to the conclusion that either you love them or you hate them. If you love them, listen to their music and see their shows. I you hate them, don’t talk about the music you hate, but listen to the music that you love. We all like different kinds of music (thank God!), so stop whining.

Panic! at the disco luvr | 5/4/2007, 5:57 pm EST

Oh my gosh! panic! at the disco totally rocks! if you dont like them or hate them, seriously, GET HELP! no offence to those of you who dont like them but Panic! at the disco owns all bands!

panic=love | 5/4/2007, 6:01 pm EST

dude, ryan, brendon, spencer, and jon totally rock! oh my gosh they are so good! me and my best friend are SO inspired by them we are makeing a band in honor of panic at the disco! i So want to meet them!!!!

Viv | 7/11/2007, 10:13 am EST

Get over it everyone. I absolutely agree with Alexandra. Why should people who like P!ATD have to listen to haters whine and get pissed off at something they should just ignore? Go find something better to do. As much as people hate P!ATD, they’re still going to have a huge fanbase that’s going to keep growing so there really isn’t any point in trying to get people to turn against them. Everyone has their own opinion about P!ATD and you just can’t complain against every single one of them, whether they’re positive or negative comments about Panic.

Jenna | 8/8/2007, 4:42 pm EST

Omg this is the stupidest thing ive ever read..they are men…half of them just leaving their teens leave them alone…

CJ | 10/17/2007, 8:59 pm EST

OMFG!!! PANIC! AT THE DISCO IS AWSOME. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THEM THEN DON’T COMMENT ON THEM I LOVE THEM AND IF U THINK THEY ARN’T GOOD THEN KEEP UR OPPINIONS TO YOUR SELF!!!

Naillil!At The Disco | 11/17/2007, 1:47 pm EST

Oh come on! don’t u people have anything better to do than complain about P!ATD I think we all now that the are freaking awesome and NOTHING can compare themselfs to them!

Kate | 11/28/2007, 10:06 pm EST

To the writer of this review and anyone who agrees with it, SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTHS AND DONT TALK ABOUT THINGS YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. we (the fans) dont care if you like them or not. because we do. and you cant change that, no matter what you write in your silly little magazine.

Thomas | 11/28/2007, 11:33 pm EST

Okay, for the record.

1)Lying is the most…. is not about objectifying women. its about adultry and cheating

2)Built god then we’ll talk.
Its about how sex doesn’t necessarily mean love.

And as for why the girl is on the bed by herself? SHES CHEATING ON THE MIME WITH SOMEONE INVISIBLE.

Mime->invisible

It’s called irony :)

Also, rolling stones has featured covers with christina auguleira nude covered with a guitar. Hypocracy?

And there are alot of popular videos with women pouring chocolate syrup on themselves, making sexual dances, and songs with far more sexual lyrics, encouraging “promiscuous sex” (annoying phrase)and banging hookers.

This song actually laments the fact that she cheats on him.

Its about how sex doesn’t mean love.

And, the next person to call me “hunny” gets a virtual slap to the face. Regardless of which “side” your on.
The way that is used in that context is rather depricating (and degrading, which appears to be everyones favorite word here)

And stop going Panic! at the Disco SUCKS! If you think so, why’d you watch the video.

And if what i suspect is right, most of the people posting against it probably didnt even watch the video. They just followed what RS said. And for those who DID watch it, and then said P!ATD sucks, why did you watch it in the first place?

And…as a closing thought

Wasn’t michaelangelos David in the nude? The statue wasn’t exactly keeping it in it’s pants (or lack therof). Yet that is considered great art (and is). So where does the line drawn on nudity and sex?

Food for thought.

COURTNEY | 12/26/2007, 6:44 pm EST

OMG I SAY THAT VIDEO I LOVE PANIC!

panic!ked[cuppycake] | 1/10/2008, 6:29 pm EST

Wow, people. Take a chill pill.
To the journalist-If you can’t appreciate what the video is ACTUALLY trying to say, and how it fits so well with the lyrics, maybe YOU shouldn’t have been the reporter. RS should send out people who actually think about these things.
To the haters-Lay off. We love Panic!, and nothing you guys say is going to change that. Don’t bash th video because of what you read. Watch the video for yourselves. More importantly, LISTEN to the lyrics. They’re there for a reason. Panic! doesn’t want the looks of their videos to detract from the music, so if you’re watching to get fucking turned on, that’s pitiful and rude.
To the fans-Thanks to all of you who are still defending the band. =]
[cuppycake]

panic!ked[cuppycake] | 1/10/2008, 6:31 pm EST

p.s.
Brendon Urie is not /screaming./
He has talent.
He’s using it.
By what we call /singing./

rosy | 2/13/2008, 2:45 pm EST

why dont all of you losers just f**k off. the mistake wasnt picking up their instrument at all douch bag. what fucking shit do you listen to they you silly little twat! people obviosuly like panic otherwise they wouldnt have won awards etc. fuck off and go and chat your shut somewhere else morons

This video is ART | 3/3/2008, 7:56 pm EST

this video is art. I dont get why people are so like obsessed with turning this into porn. It isnt porn. The people watching this are to obsessed with the sexual part of this video to realize the art of the miming and the art of the massage. I cried when i saw this video. I mean the poor mime girl is cheated on by the other mime by an invisable person that apparently the mime girl and the mime both count as a real person, just as the mimed engagement ring means so much to mime girl in the video. Stop making this such a big deal, this is art and whoever doesnt see this is just to stupid to realize what real art is. Sometime people need to look past the oh-so-loved sexual messages and see the REAL meaning of things. and lets face it sex is not big deal, everyone will have it, everyone knows what it is so honestly just accept it and move on, sex isnt the most important thing in life so stop treating it like it is. And to the people that hate panic, this is a page to discuss your thoughts on this video, not your thoughts on the band, so just post your false comments somewhere else, where they are ACTAULLY on topic. And that is all i have to say.

Taryn | 3/17/2008, 7:30 pm EST

What the hell!? They wrote about what the feel about the topic!!!! Stop attacking Panic! They have real talent, unlike you as a journalist! And screw you it’s not porn you retard!

I'm in PANIC | 3/31/2008, 8:40 pm EST

Yeah… That’s retarded article…. Screw you, guys, you’d better right about Britney’s new hair color…. STUPITTTT!!!!

patricia | 5/29/2008, 5:12 am EST

patd is just doing what they have to do. their is no such thing as malice in the video of “build god then we’ll talk” they are just showing some fallacy of relationships in there, and those guys are just musicians they are just finding a way to entertain people and to make people listen to their music. there will be “no” malice in that video, it depends on you, the way you think of it.

hannah | 8/28/2008, 3:47 pm EST

I love panic at the disco and all there music . This is my favourite song actually. I was shocked when I seen the video and I don’t think its art in anyway, its a mistake but we all make mistakes and at the end of the day all that should matter is the actual song :)

Kelsee | 10/12/2008, 2:09 pm EST

Panic At The Disco is my all time favorite band and Rolling Stone was my favorite magazine until I read this article. Brendon Urie, Ryan Ross, Jon Walker, and Spencer Smith are anything but self-obsessed! Maybe they didn’t intend for the music video for “Build A God, Then We’ll Talk” to be artsy or maybe they have just have a different opinion of art then you do. Panic at the Disco has always been a “different” band, they were the first band to truely introduce techno to this generation’s music scene and now their re-introducing folksy music. I am proud of them. :)

Erin | 6/3/2009, 7:35 pm EST

Um, who the fuck do you shit-talkers think you are? If you don’t like their music, don’t fucking listen. But seriously, no one cares if they’re not ‘artsy’ enough for you. I don’t see you in a famous band, so clearly you should be taking notes, not being pretentious. Go fuck yourself.

Sam | 11/3/2009, 9:17 pm EST

Ok, look, i love P!ATD so this is how i came upon this article. if you dont like the band, why bother bashing it? its just proving that your pathetic. everyone has different taste in music. there is not good music or bad music. there is only opinions. and everyone’s are different. so dont bash the band just because you dislike it. it hurts other peoples feelings. i just hate haters. cuz they are fucking idiots who think they know everything about music. but even music critics, honestly, its all based upon opinion. this is ridiculous, haters need to stop. but im sure more people will write comments on here about how much they hate this band. but truly, its just showing your immaturity and ignorance. everyone has a right to their opinion. but noone should bash any others opinion. its just pathetic. get a life, instead of wasting you time bashing bands, go listen to the ones you like. everyone has music diversity. i like bands from the beatles, to the smashing pumpkins, raidohead, to panic at the disco. everyones different. everyone should try to accept that. this is ridiculous and immature.
