Now that Audioslave is Cornell-less and Velvet Revolver got snubbed by Rick Rubin, Josh Homme is emerging as the man behind rock’s next great supergroup. The burly-yet-quirky rocker and Craig Kilborn doppelganger has recruited an enticing collection of musicians to work on Era Vulgaris, the new Queens of the Stone Age album out in June. Guest performers are said to include Julian Casablancas, Trent Reznor, Mark Lanegan and Billy Gibbons (!). Check out this appropriately grainy video montage, which shows snippets of in-the-studio action. Something to ponder: Do they all go over to each other’s houses for post-recording mugs of tea? Weirdly, we can kind of picture that.
On the continuum of rock collaborations, where do you think this puppy will fall?
