Exclusive Audio: Eddie and Alex Van Halen

2/26/07, 12:08 pm EST

Last week we were hit with the tragic news that Van Halen’s highly anticipated and freshly announced reunion tour was being indefinitely postponed. The jury is still out on what all this means — especially with regard to the band’s performance plans at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony March 12th in New York City. A few weeks ago, our Brian Hiatt spoke to Eddie and Alex Van Halen about — among other things — the band’s thoughts on being inducted and the logistics of going onstage with VH members new and old to play the award show. Whatever news unfolds, we prefer to bask in the more innocent, if fleeting times when there was hope and excitement underneath the Van Halen brothers’ HoF wise-cracking:

  • On what they thought upon hearing that they’d been nominated [listen]
  • On their plans for performing at the ceremony [listen]
  • On ousting Michael Anthony and naming Wolfgang the band’s new bassist; new material; tour news [listen]
  • On the future of Van Halen [listen]

Was reading some of the posts on EVH and I gotta say a couple of you guys are friggin hilarious.in the good sense, cheers

Rick Berdeski | 4/1/2008, 1:05 pm EST

So I flew to San Diego for a show..seen them in Florida…and going to Michigan in June for another! Thanks Eddie for getting off the sauce. Dave you still have it 22 years later! Studio Album please!!!

Michael Anthony | 10/28/2007, 11:58 pm EST

P.S. - Man am I so glad that I am not out on this tour with Eddie this year. 2004 was frigging insanity! That dude is one bottle of Smoking Loon away from a three-day binge that would shipwreck the tour. Wolfie would be tripping. But that’s what happens with dysfunctional families - even the Hollywood ones.

Michael Anthony | 10/28/2007, 11:55 pm EST

I just got word that Eddie is back drinking the Smoking Loon again. I guess he couldn’t stay away from his old touring partner. I guess Ed must have missed his scheduled A.A. meeting in Kansas City from what I heard about the show. It was a catastrophe. The Van Halen tour will probably implode within 30 days unless they can keep Ed away from the Loon.

Edward Van Halen and Steve McClain are in the business of helping people. Edwards’ business and music has helped many people in different ways. We support Edward and always will.

Happy Birthday Wolfgang…

Dr. Ralph | 3/13/2007, 7:40 pm EST

For all you Alex haters what the hell would you do if Eddie Van Halen was your brother? Spit in his face? I want to stop and apologize right now! I came on here and said Ed sounded like a twelve year old and then came back on and apologized to the twelve year olds… now I need to apologize to EVH. After seeing someone who I thought was a guitarist, and a pretty damn good one at that (Slash) stumble through an EVH tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last night I now know that what Edward does is no Sunday afternoon in the park. His brilliance is like Albert Einstein who could not remember where he lived, or how to tie his shoes. When so much of your brain is being consumed by work that can only be described as genius there is not much left for the daily grind. Do what you have to do but get well and get on the road with Dave, Alex and ?. It’s your call. Always has been, always will be. If not for yourself then for your family and the memories they will have. DO IT ONE MORE TIME.. ROCK ON!

psmita | 3/13/2007, 9:14 am EST

I second you comments 5150gto. And to think about a year ago I was actually considering dropping some cash to try and go see this event. It just a shame all around… for the fans, the guys in the band and the legacy of the band.

5150gto | 3/12/2007, 10:41 pm EST

Can’t believe I actually stayed up to watch the VH segment of the RRHOF. Props to Mike and Sam, I think they did the best they could on the acceptance speeches, it came from the heart, but WTF with Velvet Revolver? That was the worst tribute performance I have ever seen! Did anyone notice the voice in the croud yelling ” that was not Van Halen!”? It appeared that Mike and Sam were brought out “on the fly” to try to save the thing, and with a horn section?? come on…. undoubtedly, and unarguably one of the most insignificant and disappointing inductions seen. I really hoped we would see something more impressive. I guess the dream really is over.

BREAKING VAN HALEN UPDATES:
It is a morning of breaking Van Halen news! This letter from Edward Van Halen has been sent out this afternoon LA time to a number of media outlets, including myself. It reads:

“I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I’m doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart.

Love,
Ed

Valerie Bertinelli | 3/12/2007, 8:55 am EST

Eddie, that’s what you get for insisting to name that kid “Wolfgang.” By the way, do you have him this weekend, or do I?

Mrs. Van Halen | 3/12/2007, 8:53 am EST

Alex, honey, could you slap your little brother back into reality?!

Dime Bag Darrel | 3/12/2007, 8:51 am EST

Hey Eddie, ‘ya want your ’strat back? From the looks of it, you’ll need it soon!

njdrumguy1 | 3/11/2007, 9:14 pm EST

You posters have said it ALL. I can’t add anything additional other than it’s a sad state of affairs. We all know Eddie’s problems but what about Alex? What’s Alex done in the last 5-10 years? Session work? Back up drummer? Head up his ass?

EDDIE VAN HALEN’S HALL OF FAME MYSTERY:
There has been considerable speculation this week again surrounding the situation in Van Halen and also status of who will turn up at the Hall Of Fame ceremony Monday. At this point things seem to have changed yet again and my sources - to the best of their knowledge - are betting on Eddie and Alex not being present.
Once again no one is talking or commenting one way or the other. As far as I was aware the brothers were not going to appear until that newswire item appeared last Friday night stating they would go (but not quoting anyone…). That story remains unconfirmed and this week no one would reply to my enquiries.
Funnily enough - I talk to a lot of people - and none of their enquiries or calls are being returned either. It is an information lock down!
So, my money is on Sammy, Mike and Dave being present and that is it.
There whereabouts of Eddie Van Halen in all this continues to be debated. I am told many around him have been pushing for him to attend the ceremony, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

trezz | 3/8/2007, 8:24 am EST

Howard stern now says roth will not be attending the rrhof. revealing phone call to roth calling bullshit over velvet revolver playing that night. a hagar confirmed absence of eddie and alex also for the event. i can see this train wreck allready.

Vincent Hanna | 3/7/2007, 8:02 pm EST

Why do with bother with these guys anymore? If they wanted to play so bad, they’d play, but it seems like no one can get along with the Brothers.

Forget VH. There are other bands out there who are better and who still produce music. Later, Ed.

mc | 3/7/2007, 6:51 pm EST

Man, this whole situation sucks. What a clusterfuck they’ve created. I love Sammy, the Van Hagar era, but I was so looking forward to a reunion with Roth. Specifically a new LP. I was just making an Roth era mix, and put those two songs they did for the best of, “Me Wise Magic” & “Can’t Get This Stuff No More” on. I think those are great songs and actually have that early Van Halen vibe, way different than anything from 5150 on. If it’s true that they have fallen out again, it is truly a shame. For fans and them themselves. They could really make an impact on music right now, with a new LP with Roth. Didn’t someone say they already had 6 or so demos done with him? An album with that caliber of songs would be huge. I hope somehow they will do the right thing and act like adults,& Eddie(once my hero)will sober up and be the great musician & person that’s still in there. He’s the one that can turn this all around.

whatever | 3/6/2007, 6:40 pm EST

Go to youtube.com
type: “van halen’s fastest playing”
Eddie hasn’t gone anywhere.
All the naysayers have zero argument. Van Halen rocks!
Enjoy the music if you don’t, then don’t listen.

5150again | 3/6/2007, 5:06 pm EST

Theres no way i would spend $150 to go see anyone. besides how a single human being can worship another like that is beyond me. the last concert i went to i paid 42.50, and that was for clapton. i paid 38.00 to see these guys the last time (’90s) i havent been to a full production concert since and i think you can see why. i love the guys/music but the cost of it all today is just way too much.

whatever | 3/6/2007, 2:29 pm EST

Hey, Van Halen still rocks!

They are older and they can still jam. I’d pay $150.00 just to hear Eddie tune his guitar.
A third of his tongue was cut out so he’s going to talk differently-so what.
He still has it and I’m looking forward to the tour regardless of how eccentric Eddie is and whatever he’s demanding out of this. Looking forward to the tour!

rivercityrascal | 3/6/2007, 12:04 pm EST

Great plan, my friend. Everyone knows, however, that Alex can’t take a shit without asking Eddie’s permission. Hard to believe this band ruled the music world at one time, isn’t it?

Roth, Hagar and Anthony | 3/6/2007, 2:15 am EST

Here’s what these 3 need to do at the RRHOF induction. Go up look directly into the camera and the fans and say, “Fuck Eddie, Fuck Alex the 3 of us are touring and getting Eric Singer on drums, see is Vinnie Vincent, CC Deville or any number of great (not Eddie great but great) guitarists would care to join us. And we’re going to ROCK you fans like you deserve.”

Then tell Eddie and Alex if they want in to audition.

Have a feeling Eddie is a no talent and the reason he’s not playing the ceremonies or wanting to truly tour is he can’t play worth shit. That he’s lost it all to drugs, booze and laziness.

Alex may actually take the guys up on it though.

yiff | 3/6/2007, 1:13 am EST

Ed is just “guitar god” like sloppy. the smoking loon and late night 5150 sessions along with the broads on the ‘olde compound behind secured gates that only long mysterious black cars/suv’s/limo’s pass thru can provide one’s self.

sean | 3/5/2007, 10:06 pm EST

Van Halen was done with the last tour. Did anyone notice how bad Ed is? Does anyone notice on all the recent footage that Ed can no longer play? The dude is done. Hey Ed, why not change the way that the world thinks of you, go out with some class man.

bem | 3/4/2007, 10:06 pm EST

the rrhof has allways been like that. the inducting musicians dont allways play but sit and watch another band honor them. no bigee really..

Mike Heer | 3/4/2007, 10:05 pm EST

Eddie has lost his mind. Turn another page, heck what has he done in the last ten years!!

david | 3/4/2007, 9:02 pm EST

i would like to see ALL of them play. it is disapointing that ed and al arent playing, look at the stones they’re realy old. i dont see why they couldnt play. i still love VH nothing could change that.

new flash | 3/4/2007, 6:50 pm EST

A CHANGE OF HEART?:
It seems the Van Halen brothers have had a change of heart.. Without naming my source, yesterday’s update was a reflection on the state of play as it stood…but like the disclaimer stated…it is hard keeping up, eh? Here’s something that came over the wires this morning. No reps for VH are commenting, so take it for what it’s worth: “We can now tell you that all the members of Van Halen — Eddie and Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar — have told the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that they will be attending the induction ceremony on March 12th in New York. Roth, Anthony and Hagar had said from the start that they would be there, and we learned last night (Thursday) that Eddie and Alex have reserved a table for themselves and their families. However, they will not be performing. Velvet Revolver will pay tribute to them, with the band’s Scott Weiland and Slash actually inducting them. This marks the second year in a row that one of the inductees, who are all there and accounted for, will not perform. Metallica paid tribute to a non-performing Black Sabbath last year.”

5150gto | 3/4/2007, 3:31 am EST

Amen to “wulfin my guts”! He has several good points. Enough with the soap opera! Eddie and Alex; like it or not, this appears to be the last time you will have all the members of your band present and accounted for in the same room.
WTF!!??! Suck up your petty soap opera BS, and jam with these guys one final time! F the money BS! Take this opportunity and make the most of it, don’t sit at a separate table with your thumbs up your asses…what a waste! Some groups inducted COULDN’T perform because some members were deceased.
You’re all still here.. Don’t puss out!
HEY, YOU’RE BEING INDUCTED INTO THIS SHRINE BECAUSE OF US, THE FANS!
PUT YOUR PERSONAL BULLSH*T ASIDE FOR ONE NIGHT AND BE WHAT GOT YOU THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE…
BE THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN ONE MORE TIME!!!!!!! YOU HAVE THE GREATEST FANS IN THE WORLD, DON’T LET US DOWN!

Velvet Revolver…great band. Looking forward to hearing/seeing Slash fingertap. Will they play ‘Hang Em High’? Ha.

I hope Van Halen aren’t performing live at the RRHOF simply because they don’t want it to be ackward for new members of the group to have to just sit there. Maybe they are avoiding conflict??

I’m straying from the Eddie bashing for now. If they don’t announce something at the induction my ‘tude might change.

Well as I have failed to mention before… the f**king soap opera continues on. So now they are all going to the HOF induction, WTF?!?! So they have to have separate tables…thats the VH boyz for ya. What is it with this damn picture of them??? it makes them look like dinosaurs…(no offence to dinosaurs… but still!)Is Eddie strung out on crack? Its pretty damn pathetic that Velvet Revolver has to play a tribute to VH when everyone is going to be there. What is this Battle Royal? 2007 VH -vs- Sammy & Mike?!?!? (Can’t they all just get along for the fans sake… or isn’t the VH Boyz ripping off the fans enough already?!?!)

lik roper | 3/2/2007, 7:13 pm EST

VH needs to get down and dirty once again! the time has come!

Rocker101 | 3/2/2007, 6:18 pm EST

I read an excerpt from a german interview david lee roth had done back in ‘93. the interviewer asks roth: of all the things you miss the most in life what are the things you miss the most from your time spent with van halen?

Roth replied: “what i miss the most? hmmm well it took me five years to burn thru 50 million dollars hows that?!”

Dont forget this was also in early 1980’s Dollars.

Now begs the question where ed and als worth stands as seeing they enjoyed 5 more double platinums with hagar aboard and all.. btw, i heard hagars cut wasnt as big as the others including mikeys.

roapr5150 | 3/2/2007, 5:17 pm EST

Eddie is just a punk now. I can’t believe I’m saying this. I’ve stood by that guy for years defending him and now he’s just a punk.

Personally, I don’t think bands should be inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame of they refuse to perform. It’s one thing when you physically can’t play for whatever reason…..but when you can play and refuse to, that’s f**ked up!

Dr. Ralph | 3/2/2007, 3:44 pm EST

So I’ve been on here saying Eddie has the mind of a twelve year old and relly ripping him a new one. After listening to the audio I have to apologize. To all the twelve year olds out there… I’m sorry!

Mark | 3/2/2007, 3:02 pm EST

Unfortunatly this was probabaly just a stunt used to launch Eddie’s new line of guitars. I grew up loving Eddie. He is the reason I started palying guitar, but he is a punk now. He is about as reliable as Axl Rose.

Wild Bill | 3/2/2007, 1:06 pm EST

Van Halen has the greatest fans in the world .. i heard once or a thousand.. and Mikey held the band together for a time and could not put up w/ eddys crap.. Sammy Gary and Dave all have a diffrent flavor eddy has not changed.. the band dose not revolve around Eddie. he is the greatest guitar player in the world // but needs a band to support that.. He has jumped off that cliff and no one can save him but himself….

richard | 3/2/2007, 12:03 pm EST

im sick off all this i like van halen but i think that they shud just call it a day and fuck off

wulfin my guts | 3/2/2007, 11:45 am EST

I’m almost starting to think this is all a big publicity stunt… Anything to get their name in the news. Heres my take on things… the idea of touring is for the fans, which Sammy and Michael have proven time and time again because they were upset when Eddie and Alex wanted to put ticket prices up, and they are still performing (So if that’s the case with the reason for the ticket prices being so high, what are we doing supporting Eddies drinking problem????)… but then you think the other half Eddie and Alex what have they really done? (Alex needs to stop letting his brother walk all over him and speak for himself. Why be afraid to tell Eddie what you think? Are you afraid he’ll kick you out of the band too?) And why do they feel the need to bring Wolfie into this? Money saving once again… Nothing like sacrificing the band to save money!

But seriously this is getting pathetic. Without Michael in the band the sound just will not be the same. ***Wolfie is only amature…***

The line up should be… as we have heard a million times….
Roth and/or Hagar, Michael Anthony, and the two stooges(Eddie and Alex) minus wolfie.

Anonymous | 3/2/2007, 10:33 am EST

best wishes to the van halen bros but without MIKE ANTHONY i will not pay one cent to see the show if it ever comes around.

i have a feeling we will one day see ed on the beach with a kick drum on his back, guitar in hand and a tamberine between his legs playing cvh with an empty tip cup.

DP Ken | 3/2/2007, 7:46 am EST

Somebody get me a doctor!

DP Ken | 3/2/2007, 4:43 am EST

I’ve been constipated since I heard the tour was cancelled. Please VH, announce some dates! Pip knows about that sodomy. He learned it all from Tobey.

Beealzibub | 3/2/2007, 12:26 am EST

I think Eddie is sick of being the “guitar god” and has been for a long time..kinda like Elvis got sick of it all. As it is he’s painted himself into a box and made alot of money along the ways but at what price? I think he needs to get out of “5150 mode” get things toghether and enjoy time and life with his girlfriend and son at the beach, in the mountains anywhere.. Hell, get out of LA before the kid ends up like Jack Osborne or worse!! But touring??..he dont need the money at this point so why bother with all the grief..fans are a fickle bunch he doesnt owe any of us anything..he gave everything he “owed us” along time ago!! He made a tremendous impact on music and guitar and had a nice run..call it a day and go to the beach!! I wish him all the best and hope he wins his inner battles as those are the hardest ones to fight!! God Bless you Ed you are and always will be a hero of mine!!

Russ | 3/1/2007, 8:55 pm EST

Matt Wales, realy smart to advice someone who has a drinking problem to “party on”and you call your self a fan!?..

lik roper | 3/1/2007, 2:01 pm EST

thanks for reminding me richard; i hink VH needs to get back to the old ‘brown guitar sound’ and alex needs to remember what he said in an interview way long ago; alex said “i try to play stupid on purpose” or something along those lines; meaning that doing so caused him to create catchy simplistic stuff that is the heart of what made old VH so damn cool…

that last little stint with roth was ok, but it got a little to odd-time signature-ish for me, so a message to alex; “remember ringo”…

anyway; i think they should just get in that studio and record a whole bunch of stuff before they all decide to hate each other again, and maybe even separately like the beatles did on the white album when they were arguing, or something…

richard | 3/1/2007, 11:14 am EST

please rolling stone close off this comments box so these assholes will have sumthing better to do with their lives rather then spending all day thinking off shit to say about van halen

fret | 3/1/2007, 9:38 am EST

Go ahead and tour guys.

Casper | 3/1/2007, 3:12 am EST

Guys, this tour will be fuckin’ awesome. Ticket prices will be a fair $150 each. This is Van Halen we’re talking about here…WITH David Lee Roth. That’s certainly better than any show by U2, Bruce Springsteen, Prince or The Arcade Fire. And there will be AMAZING drama! Eddie glaring at Dave when he descends into his ludicrous showboating! Eddie drunk out of his mind bashing his head against Alex’s drum set! Wolfie nearly crying when he fucks up the background vocals and basslines!

Plus, we get a new retrospective! The Best Of 1978-1984 has confirmed to me that their legendary cover of “Dancing In The Street” is not only superior to the original (sorry, but nobody does Motown like David Lee Roth), but it’s also better than “I’ll Wait”, the band’s brooding, dark and damn catchy classic. I always thought “I’ll Wait” was better than “Dancing In The Street” AND that Eddie hated how Diver Down was loaded with covers, but I guess I was wrong, according to the compilation’s tracklist! New revelations (such as that and the fact that Michael Anthony wasn’t too great on bass, guess I need new ears) sure beat new music any day, right?

Danny | 2/28/2007, 11:59 pm EST

I agree with 5150gto.

One thing I will say is that I may be a die hard Van Halen/Sammy Hagar fan, But I don’t think it’s Dave this time, It’s Eddie Van Halen just like in 2004 of the Halen/Hagar reunion, Alex just follows Eddie.

“EDDIE, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER & MAKE THIS REUNION + ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME WORK ALL TOGETHER FOR ALL PARTIES LIKE IT WAS THE EARLY YEARS OF 1978 & 1985 OF THE SAMMY HAGAR & DAVID LEE ROTH ERA’S.”
BASICLY: THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!

One thing is for certain, That our band Reditude will in fact be covering Sammy Hagar, Van Halen & David Lee Roth songs all in one with other artists songs as well.

Our band is a Classic Rock to Heavy Metal style band that will not just cover VH, Sammy & other artists songs, But we will record Classic Rock to Heavy Metal material just like the good old days.

We wanna keep Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, DLR, Led Zeppelin, Alice In Chains, Eric Clapton, GnR’s, Metallica & lots more great old bands alive with there music & ours all in one.

Congrads to Sammy, Dave, Eddie, Alex & Mike being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2007!!!

Danny (Lead Vocalist of Reditude)

5150gto | 2/28/2007, 11:02 pm EST

As an after thought; please get help, Ed. Do it for your son, before it’s too late. And Alex, as long as you have been a musician, ask yourself, is this the right way to do this? “Moving on” by kicking to the curb band members and fans? Make this right guys, GIVE US THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN!

5150gto | 2/28/2007, 10:47 pm EST

I have to agree with “Disgusted With The Brothers”; even Sammy said Alex needs to keep his brother away from the media. Look guys, I’m 36, and I have been a loyal fan since I was 13 and I have really tried to see something positive in all this, but there are just too many things that don’t jive… For one, if the brothers care at all about there fan base, why don’t they at least update their site and address their fans, and why wasn’t there a big press conference to celebrate Roth’s return to the fold? This is not Van Halen. Why did Sammy have to fight to get Mike in on the 2004 tour? And why were the bass tracks already recorded on those 3 new songs when he got to 5150? I listened to the thumping bass and backing vocals on Unchained today just to vindicate what I have always believed: Mike is the spine of this band! Aside from one interview he did with Burn magazine, Mike has basically minded his own business. And yet, in that one interview, he was sincere, and told what he believed was the truth. Why? FOR US, the fans. Mike and Sam have simply found a way to give us what the brothers repeatedly fail to do: a great VH show, by calling themselves “The Other Half”. Imagine that; A name that pays homage and reference to VH itself,
and there is nothing derogatory about it! It was a positive thing for us, THE FANS! (and at a fair ticket price too). Van Halen NEEDS to address this forum and make a POSITIVE statement, or some sort.

Poncho | 2/28/2007, 5:59 pm EST

Was that really Ed in the interview with Alex, or was George Carlin sitting in for him?

Quit bashing Edward. You call your self fans but you are nothing more then haters. Let Eddie be Eddie and quit calling him names. Do you all forget where we came from? Children of the 80’s Party on Edward and don’t let the smack talking whiners get you down. I know you still rock, RISE kicks butt and I’m sure you have a ton of great music to release. Work out the details and I can’t wait to hear it.

This is a band that played a big part in my life, but this whole tour thing is just sad. Eddie was and maybe still is a huge talent, but he lacks class,,,, take someone like Eric Clapton,he over came his demons and is a perfectionist yes, but a class act.and a humble greatful individual.
….. Eddie your legendary status has tumbled, you are nothing but a bitter creep who makes everybody around you uncomfoartable. But I blame Alex for not helping his brother,,,, what a shame.

Nobody was around, as in didnt show up. referring to mike hmmm. didnt he take a pay scale cut or sign off on some vh rights so he could tour in 2004? i dont think he wants to be around as a hired hand, i think it would be more like being around as an equal witch the brothers have cut him out of? to make less than half of what he once had does not make sense (they didnt exactly mention that either) he did it in 2004 thinking, along with sammy, that it was pretty much going to be the last time they toured (With him) and he was right apparently. i wouldnt have shown up myself! lets just see if they (van-wolfie-roth) go out themselves.

Disgusted with The Brothers | 2/27/2007, 11:46 pm EST

I bet Alex wish Eddie would just not talk. Eddie keeps showing more and more how much of a nutjob he is now. I think he’s killed just about all his brain cells. Remember this is the guy that fell of the stage at one show (Texas), and was too drunk to play at another (Chicago), stumbling through part of the show and finally stopped playing, crashed out, and told the crowd “I done run outta gas.”.

I love Eddie’s backwards sayings:
“I’m not just blowing smoke up my own ass”.
“I always say, the tree doesn’t, you know, fall too far from the nut”

How about his comment about how there are thousands of singers out there, meaning they could get anyone and it’d be OK. Just like Gary Cherone, huh?

And what about the (talking about Sammy and Michael) “they didn’t show up” comment? As if they were invited? What a moron. I think The Other Half could have safely called themselves “The Sane Half”. Or “The Class Act Half”.

As far as Michael Anthony’s backing vocals…they were a huge part of what made van Halen what it was. As Andrew said on the main page, ‘one of rock’s best backup singers’.

Unless DLR’s vocals have improved in the past few years, considering how bad he sounded at the 2003 Sammy & Dave tour, a VH tour with him on vocals would pretty much suck anyway.

bakker | 2/27/2007, 10:39 pm EST

Eddie has lost his mind. He sounds like an old drunk sitting in a dive bar.

Ron | 2/27/2007, 10:12 pm EST

That was not good. All of their personal wackiness aside, what I can’t understand the most is the brothers inability to release something in a more timely manner than every 8 years! Hendrix has been spinning in his grave over the time wasting factor I’m sure. Live shows are temporary but recorded music lasts forever. How do you have a whole garage studio full of tapes and discs just sitting there? Don’t you want our money? Me and a zillion other loyal fans have become obsessed with listening to bootlegs from ‘74 on up out of necessity! I’ve always been partial to Dave, but I’d have been glad to see the guys do instrumentals or soundtracks or even something in the vain of the recent Santana albums with guest singers, worthy ones! You talk about therapy, sure I agree with that part and I’m glad it worked for you but you know, your entire fan base is therapy starved! Hook us up! Also, once you get things rolling again, please stear clear of the whole greatest hits trap that has just about ruined my once higher opinion of Aerosmith. If this tour was announced prematurely, as bizarre as that is, I’ll accept it, but please, atleast put out a record of all good new stuff. I’ll take 12 or so songs in the vain of Drop Dead Legs and a side order of Hear About It Later. ASAP!!! Thanks, Ron

5150gto | 2/27/2007, 8:35 pm EST

To say that they finally have a bassist that can “shred”, makes me want to puke! Come on guys, you need to listen to yourselves… and as far as “Mike can’t be in two bands at the same time”? Ed, let me remind you of Sammy’s 1987 album where you played bass, and how about Star Fleet Project? “Move on” all you want guys, it doesn’t mean we are coming with you.

Matt Wales | 2/27/2007, 8:14 pm EST

Didn’t you guys hear? I just picked up the new suprise VH cd today called Van Halen IV. 10 new tracks all of which rock. The bass grooves are so awemsome I thought they hired Stu Hamm. All of my high school age nephews bought 2 copies and their girlfirends are swooning over wolfie. Better upgrage the tour to venues like the Silverdome.

One thing is for certain,

I can’t wait to see how it works out at the HOF ceremony with Sammy, Dave, Eddie, Alex & Mike.

Last but not least, I’m a huge WWE fan I would love it if WWE would use Sammy, VH & Dave tunes for PPV events & themes, since Metallica, Disturbed & others have.
Perfect example: VH tune Judgement Day for WWE’s PPV Judgement Day. How about Sammy or VH perform live on WWE Monday Night Raw or just be present. ROCK & WRESTLING RULE!!!

1977 Van Halen Fan | 2/27/2007, 4:15 pm EST

Yep from the early days….opening act, headliner, innovation in rock & roll….now a washed up freak circus of publicity stunts. As far as I can tell, the fans are saying, “GET MIKE & DIAMOND DAVE” and do a farewell tour or…..they ain’t showing up. If Live Nation advances VH big cash for any other line up than DLR & Michael Anthony……they will lose their asses at the gate! Ed’s ego is gonna cost the promoter of this train wreck lots of cash because the 2004 rape is NOT gonna happen again!

Mike | 2/27/2007, 3:52 pm EST

How depressing. A great band has gone straight to hell.

old school VH fan | 2/27/2007, 2:33 pm EST

OK, I just hit YOUTUBE for some video of the 2004 tour. Not sure that was such a good idea.

If the tour does happen, which I expect it to, I won’t be attending. That was just insane. Ed, if you want to stand onstage and just play guitar, do that! But don’t sell tickets to a bunch of fans who are expecting to see VH!

Most of the time he wasn’t even playing the song, he was just jamming. He’s amazing, but that’s not what I want to see when I buy a VH concert ticket. Poor Sammy, he tried like hell to get him on track but he couldn’t keep him there.

Parents, show this to your kids. Remember those commercials: “This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs.”

I’ve got VH on my iPod - I’ll cherish them there.

Matt | 2/27/2007, 1:33 pm EST

All VH fans can do is chill out, wait and see what happens. This isn’t the first time Van Halen has imploded. Look at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. They were finished before they got started then. What sucks is that it might have just happend again. Get me once, shame on you. Get me twice, shame on me. As much as I would love to see Van Halen again live I just wouldn’t let myself get my hopes up for this tour. What blows even more than that is that there is, according to Eddie himself enough music written for 10 or so CDs worth of NEW material that nobody other than the four walls of the studio it was recorded in has ever heard. Thats sad because Van Halen instrumentally has never written a bad melody, riff or solo. The question fans want answered is WHEN will it be released? The tour sure would have been the perfect starting point. But whatever… the clock is ticking guys, you only live so long… I’m 25 now and it would be the shit if I got to see a VH reunion w/Roth and some new music say before I turn 65 and start collecting my Social Security. Oh thats right the age for SS will be 85 by the time its my turn to collect. Which is good because that gives Van Halen 60 years to have a reunion instead of 40 years. Something tells me they’ll need every minute of it to get their shit together.

From what I understand, from friends who are involved with the same management company as Van Halen, Eddie is a red wine drunk. Plain and simple. That wino in the park, pissing himself and slurring his speech, is Ed sans royalties and declining talent.
I suppose we will be nostalgic for days when great rock bands ruled the radio and could showcase the years of hard work they’d put into being musicians - but all of that seems to be trumped by money and ego.
Put on that Van Halen CD, close your eyes and have a good time. If you open your eyes though, you might just be reaching for a bottle yourself.

Get Help Eddie | 2/27/2007, 12:30 pm EST

I cannot understand that a band like Van Halen who has made tons of great songs over the years give up because their egos get in the way. Not to mention alcohol. Eddie you are one of the greats. But just remember, you cant do it alone. Roth and Anthony was a big part of Van Halen and helped you get rich as well. (Plus the money we paid for your over priced tickets) Do the right thing. get the band together and do a final tour and then do something with your son. But please get help before you hurt your son. And as for the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Its a joke. There is one band that has been together for 38 years and continues to put out new records all the time. They have sold their tickets and good prices. Loyal to their fans and is now getting ready to put out an awesome new cd. If you didnt guess by now, its Rush. They deserve to be put in the Hall Of Fame. Not a bunch of drunks. If Eddie gets help and does the right thing. Then by all means put them in because they should be there. But, until Eddie is sober. He will screw the chance for loyal Van Halen fans to enjoy this with pride and love for the band.

Jason Beck | 2/27/2007, 12:25 pm EST

I have always been a Van Halen fan. They were my number 1 band. Still are. I loved Roth. I loved Sammy. I laughed at Cerone.

I always knew that the Van Halens were trouble since Sammy left. The proof was in the 04 reunion tour.

They obviously were offended by Hagar and Mike going on tour as the Other Half but Hagar and Mike were offended by Eddie’s continuing abuse of alcohol and whatever else that derailed any hopes of a reunion. Eddie is always smashed or just getting over being smashed when he talks.

Think about how much money and respect that Hagar and Mike lost on that tour. Everyone can relate to experiencing alcoholism in some way. Imagine Ed like that. Backstage. Onstage. It is obviously so difficult dealing with him that people would walk away from a million dollar payday. That their record label would drop them.

Ed is a great musician but his drug abuse has prevented him from getting the respect he deserves.

Hagar and Mike knew that the last tour short changed fans. They had become a novelty act. Eddie still thinks it’s 1986 and that he doesn’t have an alcohol problem and wants to blame others.

Edward Van Halen is the greatest gifted guitarist on the planet and he has released 3 songs in the past 9 years. How many bottles of liquor or lines of coke has he done?

He has ruined his band and his legacy by bad mouthing ex-bandmates after a tour in which he played smashed. While Hagar, Anthony, and Roth have all remained professional.

I loved Van Halen. I still do but it doesn’t exist anymore. That’s just the sad reality of it.

They could have been the biggest band in the world.

It’s all or nothing to get my money, boys.
Personally, it’s been too long for me to get bent out of shape over it all.
Put out something new with the “complete” original lineup or “move forward” without the hard-core fans that paid for your lifestyle.
Ed Heads and fans that lack taste and/or integrity can carry the torch from here on out for all i care.
Just try not to screw up Wolfgangs chances at being taken seriously as a musician…he needs his future, and better role models.

Ed claims that Michael and Sammy started another band and “you can’t be in 2 bands…”???? What the hell is this guy snorting, smoking or shooting??? Michael has said MANY times, IF Ed was sober and wanted to jam worldwide with the original line-up, he’s there an hour early!! Michael has a bit more credibility that the VH brothers at this point…..the family falicy machine just never stops. Lying to the fans about Michael not wanting to be a part of VH is BS! Ed expects a fellow musician to sit around with his bass in the case for a few years while he attempts VH’s future between hang-overs?? Get a grip Ed….and Alex, you’re the best corporate “yes” man I’ve ever heard….grow some balls and tell Ed what would be best for the band…..it happens to be what the fans are calling for bro….DLR, Michael Anthony and you brothers. Do a farewell tour from 1982 and then go do solo crap with Wolfie, but call it something more original than Van Halen because DLR and Michael helped define that entity many years ago. As far as rehab for Ed goes….if ya don’t beleive the fans Ed, just have the balls to watch video of the Houston performance from 2004…..I’m so much a fan I cried and walked out on your drunk ass! Get to rehab…..ASAP!

Helvis | 2/27/2007, 9:30 am EST

During the new Van Halen tour, go backstage. If there is an enormous amount of Jack Daniels and Shlitz Malt Liquor. Alex Van Halen walks into the hospitality suite (where the JD and Shlitz are located along with a few “hors d’oeuvres), turns the sound up to an excruciatingly loud level and nobody in the room dares to complain. Eddie is in the next room jamming with Brian Setzer, and across the hall 18 teenage girls handpicked by the roadies(part of their job)are patiently waiting in line while DLR is laughing it up with a couple of good buddies flanked by a pair of dwarves in karate suits behind “door number three” - then you know, whatever else is on the periphery, a good gig was had by all. And, to all, a good night!

rac | 2/27/2007, 8:44 am EST

I have taken the time to read all these comments and it’s all been pretty funny. Bring Michael Anthony back and do a farewell tour and just go away. Your fans deserve at least that. The days of these guys making great music has passed and after everything these idiot brothers have done they will never re-gain there fan base because of all the shit they have put us through. I hear the old folks home is calling, do us a favor and check in. We don’t give a fuck anymore!

Switters | 2/27/2007, 6:47 am EST

Why didn’t the interviewer ask Eddie the tough questions? Ed says “You can’t be in two bands.” Bullshit. Michael Anthony was waiting around for YEARS for Ed to get the band together, tour, cut an album, do something, but VH remained defiantly silent and cut off fan communication. There are countless examples of bands who do solo stuff while on hiatus.

No, Ed seems very unstable mentally and health-wise. Probably still an active alcoholic. Don’t know it for sure of course. But why Alex or Valerie won’t intervene regarding Wolfie is beyond me. Sort of inexcusable.

Ed– you could have the most successful band on the planet. Your fans love Michael Anthony, they love Roth, they love Hagar. Now get your shit together brother. Your decisions have been dreadful!

VH, congrats! to be written in stone on the same wall, as LED ZEPPELIN-the best band ever, period. The only thing is the members of Led Zeppelin, aside all internal strife, recognized that we the FANS put them there. They are the ICONS they are because of the fact they acknowledged there entire being because of the fans at the HOF ceremony. Because of us fans! Thats why Led Zeppelin will be Idolized FOREVER.

King Edward and King Alex, think of the multi-millions of fans that put you guys where you are at today. You WOULD NOT be in the infamous 5150 studios if it wasn’t for the music you created WITH DLR! or to survive post-dlr with Haggar. You guys owe it to the fans to get your act together. Those fast cars that you guys drive, the homes that you live in, is from all the cash the fans paid to buy records, and come and see you guys jam.

Create all the music you want BUT without the FANS THAT BUY IT, all that music WILL fall on deaf ears, because no one will care about two eccentric musicians. Edward and Alex Van Halen, millions of fans have listened to you guys for 3 decades please give back some of the love WE GAVE YOU! Edward, wolfgang van halen is kicking your guitar-king ass because of the fact that he is fired up from the energy you guys unleashed in 1978. Do your son a favor, and do all of us a favor, give your son and the fans back the love we gave you all of these years. SEE you at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Besides, DLR has already had a Vegas act.

rivercityrascal | 2/26/2007, 8:49 pm EST

Herein lies the problem, Joey. Eddie and Alex are NOT rocking. The age factor hasn’t really come up much in these posts. It’s Eddie’s substance abuse problem and his childish behavior with Michael Anthony. And God forbid that Alex would speak up - he reminds me of a bobblehead - yes, sir, Edward. Whatever you say, Edward! Right now, I would wager thatWolfgang is the most mature Van Halen in the group.

Joey | 2/26/2007, 8:41 pm EST

There is no age limit for rocking. If you think life stops at a certain age, you might as well die now.
ROCK ON =VH=!!!

VHfan | 2/26/2007, 8:33 pm EST

When did Alex become the smart and
funny Van Halen brother? Look, Eddie has finally hit the wall. The dude is OUT OF HIS MIND. Watch that video on youtube of Ed at NAMM
and it’ll make you cry. Watching one of your heroes self-desruct in public is brutal.

Say what you want about Roth - and
Hagar - at least they operate with the fans in mind. It’s been a LONG
time since the brothers Van Halen have done that. The fact they refuse to take the lead in putting together a proper tribute to the band at the HOF dinner just proves what jackasses they are (”We’re not gonna know until that day arrives.”) Like you boys always said - the name of the band is Van Halen … don’t you even give a shit? Are you really going to screw this up … instead of just plan a short jam or something?

Ed is a damn mess and clearly doesn’t care about the band’s legacy. When will you take the lead, Al? Time to get from behind
the skins and get out in front of
this. Ed scoring porn movies! Kicking out Mike Anthony (I love of Alex ducks the question in the audio interview!”No one showed up.” Fuck that.)! Stop covering for Ed and get him the attention
he needs, Al. And Val … you’re going to let your kid go out on tour with this mess? Are you out of your mind!

Van Halen fans have been living on hope for years. Hope that there would be one more tour. Hope for a Roth reunion. Hope that this band could go out with some class.

For the first time, things really do look HOPELESS.

Bring It | 2/26/2007, 7:55 pm EST

C’mon Dave, Gimmie a break.

Stop hanging around these assholes looking for closure! Head back to the studios with YOUR band and cut the record that you’re made to make!

All the Van Hasbeens want to do is run out the clock and waste time. Don’t let them waste anymore of yours…or ours!

Chuck | 2/26/2007, 7:29 pm EST

these guys believe their own bullshit. Actually Alex seems to be there to make sure that Ed doesn’t embaress himself too much.

tom | 2/26/2007, 7:27 pm EST

can you picture Dave trying a split? maybe a nice spin with his cane, would be more suitable now!!
I was a VH fan but come on, they are dead now.

Sarge | 2/26/2007, 6:08 pm EST

Ed…You are as delusional as ever…remember Van Halen III and Gary Cherone? Another bright idea, Ed…now you think you are “moving on” making “new music”…well, go ahead, just dont expect anyone to keep listening…Tour with Dave or stay home and rot away.

Van-Handicapped | 2/26/2007, 5:57 pm EST

Brian Hiatt, you are a lame interviewer.

kev | 2/26/2007, 5:35 pm EST

the best band of all time what a shame but ill tell u dont bash these guys coz what is understood does not have to be discussed

sean | 2/26/2007, 5:35 pm EST

Sssssaaaaaaddd…That’s all it is. I wouldn’t have gone to see the new tour anyway. After 2004’s debacle, I won’t spend any more cash to watch my musical hero make an ass of himself. C’mon Ed….Get it together.

rivercityrascal | 2/26/2007, 5:35 pm EST

Sure.

Carlos | 2/26/2007, 5:34 pm EST

They’re full of shit sometimes, Michael was kicked out because he admitted taking a pay-cut on the 2004 tour and how Eddie didn’t want him in the tour. Sammy got him back for that tour and them took him out of that nightmare. I can’t see Wolfgang singing like Mike; I’m sure he can noodle but Eddie can’t anymore. I’m sure the tour will go ahead, it’s a simple question of getting the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame out of the way. They should do an album with Roth, they’ve got 5 or 6 demo songs from 2000 - according to Roth they sound great and has threatened to put them on air, they can start from there, that means 4 more songs and the job’s done. Voila!!

Gary | 2/26/2007, 5:28 pm EST

Van Halen rules!!!!
Just listen to all the chaos that has happened in the media and fans despite VH pretty much not saying anything. All this stupid talk about stuff happening or not happening. Meanwhile, VH will go ahead and do what they planned and produce some great music.

tora tora | 2/26/2007, 5:21 pm EST

Be careful what you wish for. When Sammy and Dave toured together, I was sure that Dave’s ego would not allow him to be upstaged by Sammy, so surely he would make sure his voice was back to top form. That was not the case. Sammy was on and Dave was most definitely NOT. It was embarrassing how bad he was. Still forgetting words, no real connection with the crowd, and all the time with that huge panicked grin on his face. It might be best to let this sleeping dog lie, but guess who will be there if this does happen. Yup, my dumb ass, hoping for the best

mc | 2/26/2007, 5:17 pm EST

Wow. I really, REALLY hope they can pull this together. It’s sad about the Michael Anthony situation..but I can understand why they’re doing what they’re doing. But to have a new LP and tour w/ David Lee SHOULD happen. I have been a fan thru Roth AND Hagar and always dreamed of the old Van Halen getting back together(with Roth). And I know there are tons and tons of fans that feel the same way. I say, put away all the egos, bickering, etc., step into a positive mindframe…and make it happen. PLEASE!

lik roper | 2/26/2007, 5:17 pm EST

get the old fuckin’ VH band back together already, for chrissakes! shit! junior VH can come along too! just do it!

Skullfreak | 2/26/2007, 5:16 pm EST

That was an old interview (2 months ago). I heard Eddie has checked into Rehab - hence, no tour.

InsertFork | 2/26/2007, 5:00 pm EST

They need to see a child psychologist for some family counseling.

REUNION TOUR !!! | 2/26/2007, 4:56 pm EST

Eddie and Dave , what’s happening ? 23 years waiting ? We are not IDIOT !!!

Eddie | 2/26/2007, 4:52 pm EST

Yes ! Let’s go man…..

Tour | 2/26/2007, 4:51 pm EST

Comon VAN HALEN

Bilvis.homestead.com | 2/26/2007, 4:50 pm EST

Bring back Mike, do a farwell tour, take a very well deserved bow…and stay gone. Almost 10 years since we’ve had a completly new album…games enough to keep you in the grocery store mags…man how many of us musicians would love to have all your fans. You clowns haven’t been hungry for WAY too long.

Atomic Punk | 2/26/2007, 4:45 pm EST

Ed and Alex need to own up to the fact that M. Anthony is a great bassist and a key part of the VH sound. I saw the 2004 tour here in Houston and it was Mike and Al who held the whole thing together. Ed was a mess. Oh, and remember that guy Sammy Haggar who saved their asses after the mighty DLR split? I mean, who else could have replaced DLR?! Show your ex bandmates some respect. Even if you hate the guys fu@#$ng guts, keep it to yourself!! Why is it necessary to dog these guys in the press? I think a certain guitar god is blaming everyone but himself, and it’s a damn shame. Both eras of the band were great, and Ed and Al need to show a little respect to those guys.

HookedM | 2/26/2007, 4:42 pm EST

sad ..

RATBANGINGPIMP | 2/26/2007, 4:35 pm EST

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN

Dave | 2/26/2007, 4:32 pm EST

Wow this whole thing sux. I was hoping to take my brother to this tour because he is a HUGE VH fan. Unfortunatley. Eddie and “the munsters” can’t figure it out.

R. Berdeski | 2/26/2007, 4:12 pm EST

Jesus, how do I get these 2 Van Halen tattoo’s removed?
I’m sick to my stomach.

Sammy | 2/26/2007, 4:05 pm EST

Why doesn’t the interviewer ask why they have put no new music out in almost 7 years. They have released 2 greates hits albums in a row. Now another one on the way? Also, Sammy still tours and makes music. Is Anthony supposed to sit and home? I saw them on the last tour and it was sad. This coming from a fan of both Roth/Hagar.

skut | 2/26/2007, 4:02 pm EST

Micheal Anthony can’t play in 2 bands? Maybe he is just keeping busy until you two dumbasses figure out what color the sky is in your world. Unbefrigginlievable

P. U. E. | 2/26/2007, 4:01 pm EST

The guitar player from Midst of Lions is just as good as Eddie, see for yourself
www.myspace.com/mids toflions

Helter | 2/26/2007, 4:01 pm EST

people care because VH were and are a great rock band. talent doesn’t die over night. a lot of crap can come between musicians that lead you astray. it’s always the music that speaks volumes, so if they can come back with good songs then all else will fall right back into place - this is one of the most highly anticipated re-unions to date. bring it on

rivercityrascal | 2/26/2007, 3:49 pm EST

I could get more sense from the beets and carrots in my garden than I could from EVH.

Damn, Alex, if Ed stops short, you will need a whole new set of dentures. How far up his ass can you possibly go?

rivercityrascal | 2/26/2007, 3:41 pm EST

GOOD GRIEF! Beavis and Butthead!

ken vail jr. | 2/26/2007, 3:32 pm EST

they just need some new material….eddie can still play as can alex, so we’ll see where it leads….

rostfa | 2/26/2007, 3:27 pm EST

This bands fall from grace is almost unprecedented. They were one of the biggest bands in the world who overcame lame material because of the the amazing talent of EVH. They squandrered their popularity due to pure ego, and managed to lose a H U G E fan base. Remember the tour with Gary C., and the half empty arenas and stink bomb of a record? The tour with Hagar a few years ago was also pretty limp. They are without a record label, and apparently resorting to hooking up with a guy with no voice and all fluff as a “reunion” to generate heat. Why any one cares at this point is beyond me.

tbone | 2/26/2007, 3:12 pm EST

I hate reunion tours for the same reason as I dislike open caskets - can’t we just remember them as they were when they were vibrant and healthy?

Jeff | 2/26/2007, 3:00 pm EST

Wolfie, keep doing what you’re doing and best of luck to you.

Eddie, go to rehab. Like now. Put your guitar and your smokes down and go dry out…its tough to tour with your kid when you have liver failure or lung cancer…hint hint.

I’d love to see a reunion tour, but I’d much rather Eddie live and be happy. He’s certainly given the world enough grade-A entertainment and inspiration over the years.

I feel sorry for Michael Anthony, but Eddie’s sorta right - ‘he’s out there calling himself the other half and playing the songs I wrote…what’s up with that?’ I still say he should let it go and go for one last tour, but I believe in Wolfie’s talent too.

So yeah, Eddie, go to rehab. Now. Thanks.

Bob | 2/26/2007, 2:41 pm EST

I saw Michael Anthony play with Jeff Beck and Bill F. Gibbons over the weekend and the guy looked great and played excellently. Funny how he looks better than any other member of VH. Face it losers, the guy is a great bass player and belongs in VH and on the Rock Hall stage playing with them. VH will figure this debacle out and tour. Hopefully.

DAN | 2/26/2007, 2:32 pm EST

First there was Jimi Hendrix who started they style Eddie took to the limit. Eddie’s a genius whose star is falling unless he pulls himself together and gets some help. George Lynch deserves respect, but Eddie is and always will be the master. Go to REHAB dude!

Joe | 2/26/2007, 2:29 pm EST

i would agree that George Lynch is in the same talent level as a Van Halen or a Vai, but Dokken as a band>? Dream Warriors? PPPPFFFFFFFT!

Ed's Tongue | 2/26/2007, 2:20 pm EST

Ed rambles on just like my 65yo Dad, and he’s a 40 year drunk…

Mr. Scary | 2/26/2007, 2:16 pm EST

EVH is a GREAT guitarist. George Lynch took almost all of his guitar licks and style from EVH. Face it, George Lynch belongs where he is now, in obscurity. Dokken was a joke of a band and is nowhere near Van Halen with Roth or Hagar.

Please, enough of the Van Halen bashing. I won’t defend EVH’s state of mind currently, but his guitar skills are SECOND TO NONE in the history of rock. Period.

joe | 2/26/2007, 2:14 pm EST

have pissed. sorry

joe | 2/26/2007, 2:13 pm EST

these two have no idea how they has pissed on their own legacy

www.georgelynch.com | 2/26/2007, 2:09 pm EST

George Lynch is a MUCH better player than EVH and was under-rated throughout those years when EVH was getting the attention. Now, Mr. Scary is still around, blowing the place up with his licks and showing he has always been better than Van Halen!

George Lynch Rules!!! (Dokken, Lynch Mob)

Because I said so.... | 2/26/2007, 2:05 pm EST

Will someone tell Eddie to get Wolfie to hit a treadmill and eat a salad……..chase the tour bus or somethin, the kid’s still so young he hasn’t even lost his baby fat yet. Hangin with those retards I say rehab by 20, accoustic, greenpeace pussy music by 24.

What a shame | 2/26/2007, 2:04 pm EST

Eddie Van Halen is a moron and seriously needs to go to rehab before he passes away. He sounds worse than ever!

Alex Van Halen - sounds like he has his shit together but has a mind very similar to his brother. Both of them need Prozac!

Wolfgang - regardless, he will have a career in music because of his dad and uncle and he probably has that “talent” and will be very good. As long as he stays off the pipe, he will probably be an up and coming player.

David Lee Roth - not a great live singer - good frontman - HE MADE VAN HALEN and personally, is my favorite.

Sammy Hagar - cool mother-fucker, has his shit together and deserves a HOF induction. Personally for me, wasnt my favorite in the group (didnt sing on the songs i liked best) but is very good.

Michael Anthony - he knows that the VH boys are fucked up. He knows Eddie is drugged/drunk and continuously makes an ass out of himself. Michael is smart enough to know to stay away and not be part of the destruction of whats left. VH will never be the same without him, period.

Gary Cherone - knew it was time to go and is smart enough to know that VH is pretty much a memory. Gary is a hell of a singer but didnt quite fit for VH. I would like to see Extreme reunite.

Eddie - you were a hero for a lot of people but you need to shut the fuck up! You are making an ass of yourself! No wonder Valerie Bertanelli left your ass!

Bim | 2/26/2007, 1:56 pm EST

Regarding Van Halen: I never gave a hoot about VH anyway. The guitarist was way overrated. All of the singers were jokes. They do not belong in the Hall of Fame.

Elly | 2/26/2007, 1:41 pm EST

How very sad to hear my hero ramble away. I never thought it would come to this. Edward certainly has accepted the mantra of “guitar god” in his own mind. That’s a slippery slope.

Time to retire.

Richard | 2/26/2007, 1:30 pm EST

Old interview before the tour was shelved.

I think they’ll try again, but without Michael Anthony - who really cares??

DLR still raps and puns like its 1984 and he’s King of the World. Forget that he’s been a joke for the last 15 years.

At least.

I’m proud of their induction to the HOF, but let it go guys.

Do something else.

Alex,uh……make drum videos…and stuff.

Eddie….go to rehab and save yourself. Please. Don’t go out like this.

Wolfgang…finish 10th grade.

Dave….shouldn’t you have been in Vegas by now? Surely they need EMTs there too.

Van Halen is done.

Call it a day fellas.
