Playlist of the Day: The Fighting Prince

2/22/07, 9:13 am EST

Prince Harry, IraqDespite the U.K. trying to get its boys out of Iraq, Prince Harry is shipping off to Basra, insisting he wants to be treated like any other soldier. Since that’s obviously never going to happen, we hope he brought some good music to keep his spirits up…

  • “Dirty Harry” – Gorillaz
  • “Off He Goes” – Pearl Jam
  • “Missing the War” – Ben Folds Five
  • “Battle Royal” – Duke Ellington
  • “Poor Little Rich Boy” – Regina Spektor

Wouldn’t that suck being the soldier(s) assigned to keeping his butt safe? Cannon fodder for a complete jackass.

What does Dirty Harry have to do with war? What am I missing here?

And not all of us Yanks fell for Bush. Many of us voted against him, myself included.

Mr Roper | 2/22/2007, 11:17 am EST

Bush supporters ought to be thrown in jail for:
-Treason

just for starters. Yes, they ARE GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION.

spoilt victorian child – the fall
there she goes – the la’s

Immigration girl | 2/22/2007, 1:22 pm EST

Dude, since the yanks and brits have manipultated, pushed and championed this suppossed “war” in Iraq I think it only right that this third in line to balding white men of nobility be deployed to the Middle East. If he does get some “combat” time nice, if he’s just hanging out watching others work, than naturally he shouldn’t be rewarded in anyone’s books. I dedicate a song sung by a group of his own…posh wonks Keane “Bad Dream”. Let this simmer in his mind if and when he makes the trip. Cheers!

Mr Roper | 2/22/2007, 1:29 pm EST

to G.R.I.T.S.,
When did I ever mention “Yanks”?
You must be confused.
BTW G.R.I.T.S., What does “Liberal” mean?
the old labels really don’t fit anymore. Conservatives are the MOST WASTEFUL group of polluters, so to have “Conserve” anywhere near their moniker is silly.
The 60’s are over. Kick the boomers out. Their baggage is out of hand, and out of touch.

“I’m Nothing” – Violent Femmes

midevil | 2/22/2007, 1:52 pm EST

Nice to see an aristocrat actually head towards the front lines–unlike in America, where the king monkey can’t even handle reserve duty.

Taltos1667 | 2/22/2007, 2:27 pm EST

To Mr. Roper

The 60s may be over, but the revolution is still under way. Not all of us who grew up, figuratively and literally, in the 60s are boomers. And, no, the old labels do not fit – the banners were all flown in the last war. It is time, once again, for a grassroots uprising! Take a lesson from the past – got to revolution, got to revolution:

One generation got old
One generation got sold
This generation got no destination to hold
Pick up the cry
Hey now it’s time for you and me
Got a revolution Got to revolution – Jefferson Airplane

Until such time as we start to elect people who have a real vision for this world, we will repeat the lessons that get ignored each time there is an election. In a more perfect world, the politicians, or those who wish to run the country would be those who have compassion and vision:

A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We’ll be clean when their work is done
We’ll be eternally free yes and eternally young

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free – Donald Fagen

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the World will live as one – John Lennon
