It looks like David Lee Roth’s first tour with Van Halen in twenty-three years won’t happen, after all. Over the weekend, employees of tour promoters Live Nation were informed that “the Van Halen tour has been shut down.” It’s not yet clear what went wrong: Just last week, the band released their first official photo of their new line-up to Rolling Stone. At the time, Roth told us that he was thrilled about the tour, and that the reunion could be permanent: “I have hope and faith – and that’s more than just the name of a couple of strippers from Albuquerque,” he said. Check back here for more VH news as the story unfolds.

I’m not surprised.

Oh man. Who saw this one coming? Personally, I thought they’d get a couple dates in before the shit hit the fan. This is actually kind of a disappointing catastrophe. I’d hoped for a more mediagenic disaster, like Eddie ripping our Dave’s fake hair or something. Ah well. I guy can dream.
Lobsters | 2/21/2007, 4:42 pm EST
My guess is that Roth found Eddie and Alex to be even more retarded than they were years ago. And who the fuck wants to be in a band with somebody’s punk ass teenage son?
Judy | 2/21/2007, 4:44 pm EST
Good!
Van Halen SUCKS anyway.
(first 2 albums were great though)

NOOOOO!!!! Why it got to be like this?? I need to ROCK!!! Maybe next time
ken vail jr. | 2/21/2007, 4:52 pm EST
i think they should record a new lp before touring anyways. why do these rock stars have to have such huge egos? just go out and rock! i had read roth wanted michael anthony there-that makes sense to me….well we’ll wait and see…a little longer!

This is rediculous! VH was finally getting some good press after more than a decade of destroying their legacy and they pull this! I feel burned! They have run off three singers and a bass player, I guess if your name isn’t Van Halen you are not welcome in this band. Maybe Wolfgang, Eddie, and Alex will tour as a trio, I surely won’t be there.
Ouroboros | 2/21/2007, 5:22 pm EST

Think of how devestated 15 year old Wolfie must be. I bet you Roth got on Eddie’s nerves and he just called it off spontaneously like he did the other time Roth rejoined the group. This sucks…I was totally looking forward to this.
Killa | 2/21/2007, 5:37 pm EST

adam | 2/21/2007, 5:51 pm EST
well, as much as i hate to say it! Van Halen as we once knew it is done! Eddie had probably the biggest hand at fuckin up his legacy. Eddie your ego and your boozin really messed you up! WAKE UP you idiot! when are you gonna realize you are not the only one on this planet. Alex your a idiot too! I got mad respect for your skills on the skins, but you let your brother’s ego mess up what youve help build? I would drag him out of 5150 and kick his monkey ass! he deserves it! you know it and i know it and most of all your fans know it! You guys treat your fans like shit! breaking us off 30,000 dollar guitars that most of us cant afford! getting peoples hopes up on seeing ya again before ya kill yourself from booze! You got alot to learn about how to treat the people that have bought your records, your guitars, and even believed you and your brother when you sat on your couch on mtv and told us that it was all sammy’s and dave’s fault! He better be wearing a cup??? screw you ed! If i ever see ya at the local 7-11 getting your wine you better be wearing a cup!! Asshole
hot4cheetoes | 2/21/2007, 5:53 pm EST
Leave it to the gigolo. what ‘ya Expect? ed cant handle that shiz, “when egos collide” is what there singing now.
Rolling Stone Sucks | 2/21/2007, 5:53 pm EST
I know this is all Eddie’s fault. He probably threw a temper tantrum about some insignificant little bit of nothing, took his toys and went home, just like the whiny little bitch that he’s become. Take notes kids, this is what not to do if you happen to be one of the most talented guitar players in history!
theworldsforgottenboy | 2/21/2007, 5:54 pm EST
Yeah .. postponed till they get it right.
Dear Ed… saw the YouTube of your “amazing” demo at the Fender Show… please buddy .. go back to the woodshed… are you kidding??
This is how to get it right.
1. Wolfie OUT – Mike Anthony back in.
2. Release the long awaited boxset of demos – live – outtakes from the 1975 – 1984 period. It should be 6 discs – with 4 of rareties – one of VINTAGE DVD video – and one of the ” best of ” and containing no less than 4 new songs.
3. Don’t ever speak or do interviews. You are a screwed up man. Let DLR talk.
4. Get a stylist for the band fast.
5. Repeat in the mirror every morning. ” I am only 25% of the Van Halen that matters and the original Van Halen is far more than the sum of its individual parts.”
6. Suggest you get a tattoo of number 5.

Skip | 2/21/2007, 6:40 pm EST
“Who cares — go see the new band with Hagar, Mike Anthony and Chad Smith instead”
That’s not a band, it’s a group of losers with a decent bass player with a bad attitude.
“Hagar returned to the group for a 2004 reunion tour, but went back to his solo career at tour’s end after having another falling out with Eddie Van Halen. Hagar and Anthony subsequently toured with Hagar’s solo band, and last year performed at each of Hagar’s tour stops as The Other Half, a group whose setlist was comprised entirely of Van Halen material.
Eddie Van Halen has since expressed his displeasure about the Hagar/Anthony venture, in the wake of which the guitarist bounced Anthony out of the group.”
Anthony deserved what he got for hanging out with a loser stealing material from the group and making it his own.
I liked the old VH with him but you have to draw the line somewhere. Haggar the horrible is a two bit material stealing loser with no real talent to speak of. He certainly can’t write, and his singing is mediocre at best and a showman such as Dave he isn’t. Eddie has made all the right moves up until this point.
Nelson | 2/21/2007, 6:44 pm EST
I’m utterly speechless and embarrassed to call myself a Van Halen fan. If there is *anything* VH is good at these days, it’s f***ing up and pissing people off. Talk about dropping the ball….yet again. At the end of the day, I believe that Dave, Sammy, and Micael Anthony just want to be on stage, giving us what we all want. Unfortunately, the egomaniac/has-been/control freak guitarist, once again, manages to f*** up a beautiful slam dunk.
God, I’m angry at them.
Jeremy | 2/21/2007, 6:45 pm EST
*GASP*
Van Halen breaking up? Never saw that one coming.
rivercityrascal | 2/21/2007, 6:53 pm EST
skip – the only losers here are the Van Halen brothers whose heads are planted firmly up their asses. And of course, the fans who have been screwed over by these asswipes for years. Michael and Sammy are the only ones who ever gave any thought to the fans. Michael Anthony with a bad “tude? And what does that say for the King of all losers – EVH? As for stealing the “songs that Eddie wrote”, I believe Sammy was just as responsible for those songs as Eddie was.

Rolling Stone as usual is sensationalizing the rumor- some other comments about all this-
Melodicrock.com issued a Van Halen update in response to the rumors yesterday, saying in part:
“I am told that this postponement should be just that – a temporary situation that can be sorted so that the dates that had been arranged can be re-booked and announced down the track somewhat. The band is unlikely to comment beyond the fact the tour will (at this stage) start later than originally planned. The line-up for this tour remains Eddie, Wolfgang & Alex Van Halen and frontman David Lee Roth.”
Also, the VHND’s own sources are telling us not to worry and that the tour is indeed going to happen. We know that the date that the tickets were to go on sale has been pushed back from late February to sometime in March. We are hoping that the main reason for this delay is to coincide the official announcement of tour dates with Van Halen’s March 12th induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
David Neeleman is Really Sorry | 2/21/2007, 7:12 pm EST
The official website still has the announcement of the tour as it’s splash page. Take that for what you will. But without Michael Anthony, they aren’t the band that recorded the 1978 album, and that’s the only one I’d pay to see right now.
If Eddie and Alex spent a year or two creating a new band synergy with Wolfgang and Dave in the studio, and recorded a new album, I’d give it a chance. But this was just Eddie hiring Dave for a tour, and muscling Mike out because he considers Mike’s new band to be “cheating.” That’s adolescent thinking of course, but saying that about Eddie is redundant.
Leslie Medford | 2/21/2007, 7:14 pm EST
I just heard on the “radio” that DL Roth is out and MORRISSEY (!) is in, and the tour is back on. Can anyone confirm this?!?!!?
James | 2/21/2007, 7:16 pm EST
I heard that this is just a rumor, and the tour is not cancelled- just some minor setbacks, pushing the tour back, BUT the tour will still happen this summer.
Always the drama with =VH=
Leslie Medford | 2/21/2007, 7:19 pm EST
Wait, I had it wrong, it’s not Morrissey taking David Lee’s place, it’s HENRY ROLLINS! Fucking Van Halen, man – one thing after another! Can’t wait for the summer tour. Go Eddie! Go Henry! Go fuck yourselves!
James | 2/21/2007, 7:22 pm EST
A new rumor has been circulating that says the Van Halen tour has been “indefinitenly postponed”. But don’t worry – the tour will very likely still happen this summer.
Melodicrock.com issued a Van Halen update in a responce to the rumors yesterday, saying in part:
“I am told that this postponement should be just that – a tempoary situation that can be sorted so that the dates that had been arranged can be re-booked and announced down the track somewhat. The band is unlikely to comment beyond the fact the tour will (at this stage) start later than originally planned. The line up for this tour remains the same Eddie, Wolfgang, Alex Van Halen and frontman David Lee Roth.”
Also the VHND’s own sources are telling us not ot worry and that the tour is indeed going to happen. We know that the date that the tickets were to go on sale has been pushed back from late February to sometime in March. We are hoping that the main reason for this delay is to coincide the offical announcement of the tour dates with Van Halen’s March 12th induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Another rumor we want to address – we are suprised to see that some websites are saying that Van Halen is currently being managed by Eddie’s girlfriend (Janie Leszewski/High Profile Media). While it is true that Eddie’s girlfriend is the band’s publicist, the band’s manager for the last three years is Irving Azoff.
Blythe | 2/21/2007, 7:26 pm EST
I have been hearing this “Morrisey” talk myself here in so.cal. confirmation would be appreciated.
Sheena | 2/21/2007, 7:31 pm EST
I am disappointed! I was so excited about it, but I do have to say at least they didn’t cancel on a day of a concert; where people already have their tickets and was already in line like someone else we might all know.
Judy | 2/21/2007, 7:32 pm EST
Eddie Van Halen needs some help. It’s as if his mind is stuck at 18. Old enough for freedom, and too young to understand it. PrimaDonna. Grow up Eddie and get over your youth.
Brittney just checked out of rehab, again, so there’s a vacancy. I think a Malibu ‘retreat’ would do you good.
rivercityrascal | 2/21/2007, 7:33 pm EST
With setbacks, indefinite postponements, VH history and the like, would you still pay outrageous money for a ticket with the HOPE they would show up? I’ve just gotta know what people would do.
paul | 2/21/2007, 7:36 pm EST
what the bloody hell. put all your differeces aside and get out there and play for the same reason you started the band. no one knows what happened except the band members. personally i think it was eddie’s ego and dave’s prima-donna attitude. what a waste of talent.
Juju | 2/21/2007, 7:39 pm EST

How much you wanna bet that the “EVH” special edition guitar thats coming out soon won’t sell. It’s probably why you can get those Charvel “EVH” Guitars for a song now. Eddie is a “has been” guitarist and no one cares anymore

Why do we still get excited about this band…face it…there done! PERIOD!!!
hot4cheetah | 2/21/2007, 8:00 pm EST
hmm yeah well i dont see anyone taking the place of roth, and sammy and mike are gone for good. van-halen.com is still saying its on. all’s we can do is leave it at that and hope there is a push back due to the RRHOF. if nothing promising after that then i think the hint will be taken rather quick.

Van Halen ought to remember who put them at the top. It was the fans buying the records and going to their shows. Just put the egos away and get Michael back (if he would come back now) and rock like you used to do. Us fans deserve it. We are tired of being the laughing stock of Rock and Roll.
Rod | 2/21/2007, 8:45 pm EST
How many eddies? 1,2-3? who was that short haired next-door trucker type guy? was it a fanatical look-alike fan that could play guitar really good like ed that they used for some reason? to cover up a “sick” eddie? seems to be more evh’s out there than previously thought, even this really old one.

Hey guys this still would have been a great concert no matter that Sammy & Michael, are gone.
It would have been very interesting to hear the new sound without Sammy’s great vocals and Mikey’s intense bass playing and golden backup vocals. I’m sure Wolfgang can tear it up, he’s Eddie’s son for Christs sake. Eddie still is the best guitarest bar none!

All of you dumb-ass losers who got boners at the prospect of hairless dave back in the band can go back to wetting your diapers. dave SUCKS. Always has, always will.
At least with Hagar the band toured regularly, put out great music and they were more popular than ever.
dave is a washed-up, never was, one bit, barely good enough to be a lounge singer, crap-stain.
GET OVER IT, YOU LOSERS!!!

CRAP! Is Eddie behind this BS? I was excited and lookin’ forward to my first ever Van Halen concert with David Lee Roth front and center, since I missed the party the first time around, way back. I even went out last weekend and bought all the first 6 Van Halen Lp-Cds on Remasters. I already have the original Cds and vinyl versions. Three decades down the drain! This sucks!

Too bad we can’t just go back in time and see them before the foolishness.

You have got to be kidding me? How can 50 year old men (who have been out of work for 10+ years) act like a bunch of 14 year old school girls? Alex, Ed, come on now!!! Sammy and Mike wanted to “work” for a living. I’m guessing the Van Halen thing wasn’t paying their bills sitting at home with their thumbs up their asses. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this thing. Poor Wolfie lives in the shadows of his dad and uncle, once rock-gods, now just has-beens.

Van Halen is a joke. Having Sammy Hagar at the helm was the only thing that saved this band, but Eddie’s alcoholism has brought the band to a state where it is no longer salvagable. Bring in his 15 year old son to replace Michael Anthony was a telltale sign that Eddie is whacked. He’s been drinking Smoking Loon Wine 24/7 ever since Val left him (and even before then). He is toast!
Mike | 2/21/2007, 11:52 pm EST

I ain’t got no little black dog, never did! Who the hell are you? I never killed no dog in my life!”
axe victim | 2/21/2007, 11:53 pm EST
Seriously? Fifteen year old Wolfgang VH has been playing bass for 3 months(unreal), and he would replace Michael Anthony, who represents not only the bass playing, but the majority of the VH background vocals. They can’t do it. No Mike Anthony. NO SHOW! Forget about it! They can’t do it! Original members of Van Halen or NO VAN HALEN! This is pathetic!
Fingers Ramone | 2/22/2007, 12:07 am EST
Slowly moving toward the exit with the rest of the crowd, we pause by the mersh table and check out the t-shirts. The crowd here is just as thick as it was inside for the band, and I take advantage of this by wadding up a blue Extra Large in my hand and quickly thrusting it into my pocket. I hurry towards the exit to catch up with the guys.
Out in the parking lot Scott shows me the one he stole. It’s the one Tommy was wearing onstage; the same one as mine.

I think that the only logical thing for VH to do is to hire a mexican bassist like Metalica did, and start making music videos in California prisons.
Then again, if the back comes out of the closet and announces they are all gay that might get a little positive publicity from the gays. Maybe they should put a photo of Paul Lind on their new album cover and call it “The End Zone”.
They could also wear all black and dress up like hasidic jews.
Yeah rock and roll.
Shano Van Halen | 2/22/2007, 1:43 am EST
VH is the GREATEST band of ALL time. It goes beyond the music,….it is a way of life. None of you will ever truly understand. WHATEVER they do, play,…dont play,…..they will remain the best of all time. They invented an entire genre from the release of the first album. From there on,…every album was unique. They are the greatest.
Signed,
(you guessed it)
THE BIGGEST VH FAN ON THE PLANET
P.S. whoever disses or have dissed on them doesn’t not know music, OR how to have a good time, AND I wish upon them cancer of the eyes.

So Wolfie is too young according to child labor laws (and the laws of logic) … howzabout we get Micheal Anthony to replace him??!!
Meanwhile Sammy is laughing his ass off on a big pile of tequila money (it pays WAY more than music).

Van halen sounds interesting again im sure about that, but i think they should do something with their music coz it might sound boring these days if they keep doing the same old style they did years back. There photo looks promising though.

Sammy is a loser thief that elbowed his way into shoes he was never qualified to fill.
“Sammy doesn’t have a thing to do with screwing this up. Try again!”
That’s sadly wrong. He has deliberately poked his nose into the bands business since Dave left to intentionally cause problems and keep Dave from ever returning. Sammy is 99% of why Dave hasn’t returned before now. The guy is a jerk and obviously has you buffaloed. He has never been anything but a jerk and going on the road without others that cowrote songs approval to play the bands music is borderline illegal. Anybody that takes a look knows the guy is just a POS troublemaker that starts fights and then acts like he had nothing to do with it. He’s come out looking like sunshine many times when he is more often than not THE PROBLEM. He reminds me of the sibling that kicks his brother when moms not looking and when the brother hit’s him back he screams his brother is hitting him again.
Sammy = LOSER and if Micheal is with him and on his side that makes him one too sadly. Sammy is the cancer that has plagued this band for years (many years) I think Eddie is finally seeing the light. Only took twenty years but at least he came around. So Eddie cured cancer in more ways than one.
As far as Sammy writing…I’ll just say this, go look at the Lyrics to any of the first three albums and compare them to anything ever written during the Sammy years. It will be a sad comparison, a joke at best.

it would make sense to postpone things until the rock hall gig, and then do a big promo push, with a new single or a hits package. wolfie is not alone in being a young guy touring. tons of bands have had young members and still toured. wasn’t tommy stinson like 14 years old as well?
also, has no one heard the other rumor? that the g’n'r half of velvet revolver wants to do a reunion too? the only way to make money touring these days is to give value, or something that people have not seen in eons.
i guess the rumored zep reunion never got off the ground either….
Ryan Seifried | 2/22/2007, 5:19 am EST
I am a Van Halen fan since I was 7. I didn’t know much then, but I knew this band kicked the shit out of everybody including Kiss. I’ve see VH 12 times and all without Roth. I’ve seen Roth 3 times without VH. I am not prepared for the rant that follows…….
I give 2 shits about any fucking reason why this band is not going to tour! I don’t give a fuck about how Vh’s politcal or religious views. I just want to see the fucking band play one fucking time before Ed drops dead in the 5150 studio from whatever…..I don’t think that eddie owes me shit, I just want to see that raw shit onstage. Alex, speak up you dumbfuck. I am sick of how this band keeps all hush, hush then expects it to be a huge fucking deal when the make and announcement of a tour that has less odds then a Tyson fight. If this is a true breakup then, Put both those fucked up hands together Eddie, you just lost a great fan…….
Bottom line….This Bands Legacy has been ruined, and those are words from a fan that has been there, influenced to play guitar by Eddie and now says FUCK YOU!!!!!!Print that Rollingstone!!!!!!!
Ryan Seifried | 2/22/2007, 5:52 am EST
Cherone didn’t didn’t bug me, I got to see the greatest guitarist on the planet live (for the 11th time at that point)…..Sammy is back…..One of the greatest shows I’d ever seen….If Diomond David Lee Roth Doesn’t tour this year…..I have lost all respect for Eddie and Alex both. If the Band has broken up, the Legacy of Van Halen has officially been ruined.
Let Wolfie create his own Legacy!
Dave, you were always right with what you’ve done in life. Keep it up. You are truely the “Diamond” one in my mind. Any haters or greeters can see me on Myspace userSike5150

Yo skippy, you’re and idiot. Didn’t Dave tour with Sammy? So, Sammy stole all the material and Dave still toured with him? Sammy couldn’t care what the FUCK the Halen brothers are up to because he’s doing his own shit. You’re a tool. Sammy has one of the greatest voices ever. The reason Mike is touring and partying with Sammy is because he still wants to rock, not watch Eddie in rehab or roll Alex around in a wheel chair. Van Halen was much better with Sammy, but the original lineup was excellent as well and changed rock and roll. Read the lyrics on 5150 and see what you think now about Sammy’s writing skills. You are HUGE joke for even saying Sammy can’t sing and is a thief.

Skip- You’re an uneducated jack ass. Do you SERIOUSLY think that the “lyrics” DLR wrote are better than Sammy’s?!?! You’re out of your g****mn mind! The stuff Sammy wrote with VH was not only better than what DLR wrote with them, but it’s better than the stuff Sammy wrote/writes with his own friggin band, and I love the Wabos! *sigh* It’s all ovbiously matters of opinions, and that’s cool, really. If we are all truly Van Halen fans, then we just need to step back and admit that our favorite band had 3 singers. Yes, 3. You may not like 2 out of three, but you don’t have to. Peace.

This news really sucks…What a F%$king buzzkill..First the Bears lose, now this…..I was really pumped up about this tour and looking forward to seeing them live..This was like a bright beacon of light and hope….. The first tape I ever bought was “1984″ back in the day when I was 9…..David Lee and Van Halen were gods among mere mortals who walked the earth like gladiators…When Van Halen came to your town it was like the entire town closed down…..I think
Sammy chesseified the band with his safe predictable sugar coated pop rock persona…It’s just too bad Eddie and Dave never got along…..Say what you want about Eddie though…I’ve seen alot of nasty comments about him on this board…He essentially reinvented and redefined the role of the electric guitar in rock and roll…Without him there would have been no whammy bar, floyd rose locking tremolos, 80’s hair metal bands, shredders, neo classical riffers etc….He showed the world what the electric guitar can do and inspired millions..I hope they can possibly meet up for some last minute negotiations to get this together….

Gee, what a surprise. Do these guys ever think before they open their drunken mouths? Is there even a shred of credibility left in them? No Ed, Wolfie can not play a 1/2 hour bass solo while you shed crocodile tears of fatherly pride in the stage wings. Put all these guys on an island with about 10 cases of Jack Daniel’s and the next day, when all the whiskey is gone, whoever walks out first wins. Of course there’s always a hope that none of them would make it off. ENOUGH ALREADY!!

OK, ogmonster. Why don’t you do us all a favor and tell us what is “quality”, then! Who’s your favorite guitarist of all time? Someone obscure? Or Dave Mustaine? Yngwie maybe? Despite not having Anthony in the band, I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt. If the VH’s are still rich then I wonder where the $$ is coming from. When you make big money you spend big money. Nobody buys their records anymore, they havent toured in years. Dave and Eddie needed each other to make this thing work. Nothing against Sam, but another Van Hagar tour is not going to be the blockbuster that this would have been. They just pissed away a windfall.

Lets all move on from this. Here are the facts, not rumors: 1) They don’t need the money. 2.) Dave and Eddie are idiots. 3.) Who cares anymore? This band hasn’t put anything out worth buying in over a decade and they are completely washed up. These guys should never-ever bring up reunion again and Eddie should change his kids name to Mark or something relatively normal, take him back to school and give him a chance at a normal life.
Jim in Monterey, CA. | 2/22/2007, 4:10 pm EST
I read somewhere that maybe Eddie’s ex wife Valerie sicced the child labor police on the Van Halen camp. Hee-hee. Wolfie’s touring and child labor laws don’t really mesh.
I also agree with The Pimp, there was probably a last minute effort to get M.A. back. Not having him is the one biggest insult to all the fans who’ve supported them through the years. The money backing this tour probably doesn’t want to risk angering ticket buying fans. One look at the picture above and one can almost read Dave’s face regarding this issue. Nothing against Wolfie however. I just don’t concider this lineup as true V.H. and I’m far from alone!

1st off M.A. sucks at playing bass. He’s been doing that same stupid idiotic bass solo for the last 25 years. It’s boring and is a waste of concert time, which I pay for by buying a ticket, so he’s wasting my time.
They need to do what KISS did and learn how to play the old songs like it was yesteryear. Don’t speed them up just to be able to get more in. Van Halen is and always will be Dave and Eddie(period!).
All their doing is getting old fans like me mad.

They need to do another thing that KISS did and put out their old live performances on DVD especially “1984″!!!!

I would have gone to see them even with Wolfgang, but why can’t Eddie and MAnthony put aside their problems
for just this once! They toured with him for all these years and they know the tour would be better with all original members. I doubt this is any publicity stunt, they aren’t smart enough to pull off something that sophisticated. It’s either the same old Eddie/Dave problem or maybe that child labor law thing. At least the Police seem to be doing it the right way, and I never thought I’d see them back together.

I tend to ignore the children on this board who probably aren’t old enough to even know the difference between what was being created by artists and what is now being pushed by record companies. Sammy is a POS. If you like him SOOOO MUUUCH why are any of you on a VH post praising him?? Maybe because die hard VH fans don’t really like the guy. And you just can’t stand seeing the truth be told to the world. I’m far from an idiot. I’ve been a VH fan since long before they broke up. I bought every album up until they broke up. I have NOT bought one since however. And unless they do end up getting back together in some form WITH Dave I most likely won’t ever again. I don’t like the sound of Sammy’s voice and never have. I didn’t like him before Van Halen I didn’t like him in Van Halen and I still don’t like him with his new band. The music he made sounded like bubble gum pop at best. If you listen you never hear many songs played by Van Halen without Dave since most of it isn’t all that good and MOST of it has been produced without Dave and YET>>>>BY FAR more songs of VH with Dave are played on stations EVERYWHERE. That tells me I don’t give a rats azz about the opinions on this board and the Sammy lovers present.
I say again if you like him SOO MUCH, listen to him with his new band and his new bassist that is a decent bassist even if Sammy can’t sing or write. (Especially write – because he without a shadow of a doubt he sings better than he writes which still isn’t saying much) Oh yeah I’m sure “I can’t drive 55″ ranks right up there with “Running With the Devil” or any other with Dave, take your pick because it IS to laugh if anyone thinks I’M an idiot.
Sammy = LOSER
I’m WELL aware of the VH past. And at every turn Sammy has been there when there was a fight and magically never had anything to do with it.
Dave went on the road with him and wouldn’t even come out of the Dressing Room. Yeah sounds to me like he just LOVED the guy. This is taken straight from an interview with Sammy. Sammy took his time to make Dave out to be the bad guy yet again. Yeah Dave’s obnoxious. Big whoop. I would be too if I had to deal with Sammy’s whining azz day in day out.
Eddie cured cancer apparently twice. Once in his mouth and the second in his azz by surgically removing Sammy.
KUDOS to Eddie. Now if he can keep the promise on the website and actually make it to tour even better.
“Skip – your hero is a delusional ass who has managed all by himself to destroy the greatest band in rock history” I never said he didn’t have a hand in it. I just said Sammy made sure it stayed that way. Because the fact is, Sammy was never a part of the greatest rock band in history, just the greatest wannabe replacement singer in history.

There is a poster calling himself “Expanded Consciousness” on Blabbermouth.net and he is saying some pretty nasty things about VH. That wouldn’t be you, would it?
Skip | 2/22/2007, 7:19 pm EST
rivercityrascal, people my age are generally in the minority more and more these days.
I’m in the minority because the vast majority of people half my age with would probably easily comprise MOST of this board, and never were fans of VH before they broke up. Simply not old enough. It’s more like “Dave who?” for them. I can understand that. But it doesn’t make me blind to the facts all the same bud.
Expanded Consciousness | 2/22/2007, 7:24 pm EST
Van Halen died in 1985.
Hagar’s voice. Never liked it.
The coolest band in the world in 1984.
A complete goofie joke in 1986 (watch Live Without A Net).
Jumping jacks. Running in place. The cloths.
An amazing transformation.
Resurrected for 2 songs in 1996.
Ressurected in 2007?
We’ll see…
Expanded Consciousness | 2/22/2007, 7:31 pm EST
rivercityjackyl,
Absolutely me on Blabber.
Absolutley said nothing nasty on VH.
Absolutely served up the facts vs just echoed Eddie’s whinny BS.
How is he going to spin this mess, this time?
He always comes out w/ nonsense.
Both Roth and Hagar were liars in ‘96, supposedly.
Anthony caused his own self to be fired by playing with the “enemy” (Hagar).
What now, EVH?
rivercityrascal | 2/22/2007, 7:40 pm EST
Expanded – I happen to like your posts. You’re obviously a fan, but not blind to the fact that VH makes a habit of dumping on its fans.
Skip – You’re obviously a fan, as am I. We just happen to like a band that can’t put their differences aside and just play music! Agreed?
Skip | 2/22/2007, 7:44 pm EST
Agreed. And you’re right they do keep dumping on their fans. I’m a little tired of the “pump and dump” myself, pun intended.
Expanded Consciousness | 2/22/2007, 7:47 pm EST
Well, fellas.
Keep hoping for the best.
The nail ain’t in this coffin, yet.
Skip | 2/22/2007, 7:48 pm EST
Actually I was hoping as said by someone else on this board that this may possibly be a last ditch effort to get MA back for the tour. I don’t know. I have nothing against Wolfgang playing and I would definitely still pay to go, but I just don’t think he’s creatively mature nearly to the level of his peers here. It is kind of cool watching him play on stage with Eddie on Youtube. I’m not sure I would want the whole show like that though. I somehow feel like I’m contributing to the delinqency of a minor myself by paying to see them play with him. HAHAHA
rivercityrascal | 2/22/2007, 7:51 pm EST
“Pump and dump” – I like that. Great analogy, Skip.

MICHAEL BACK IN!!!
PROMOTERS DEMANDING!!
HOPE SO!!!!
THE DELAYS MEAN THE TOUR HASN’T BEEN SIGNED. THE $-DEALS WITH THE TOUR PROMOTERS HAVEN’T BEEN SIGNED.
BUT I’LL TELL YOU WHAT HAS BEEN SIGNED.
THE CONTRACTS BETWEEN DAVE’S LAWYERS (DARTH VADAR AND SONS) AND THE VAN HALEN CAMP.
AS DAVE SAID IN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPGHY AND MANY TIMES IN INTERVIEWS, NO WAY WAS HE GOING BACK UP THERE WITHOUT LAWYERS AND IRONCLAD CONTRACTS SIGNED.
IT IS STILL ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(hopeful ly)
STEP 1: CONTRACTS BETWEEN DAVE AND VAN HALEN ARE SIGNED AND IRONCLAD. DONE.
STEP 2: CONTRACTS BETWEEN TOUR PROMOTERS AND VAN HALEN STILL BEING WORKED OUT.
PROMOTERS WANT THE ORIGINAL LINE UP.
OFFERING LESS $ FOR THIS 3/4TH REUNION.
VAN HALEN ARE FIGHTING FOR MORE $.
THIS IS BIG BUSINESS KIDDIES.
NOT A JAM BAND MEETING AT THE LOCAL DIVE FOR A SATURDAY NIGHT.

“But Hagar said that Eddie Van Halen was drinking heavily and, on some nights, it showed. In Chicago, Eddie stumbled throughout the set and, at one point, quit playing and sacked out, telling the crowd: “I done run outta gas.”"
This is why I hate Hagar. I don’t disagree this may be a truthful event but it’s seriously in bad taste to talk about it to the press unless it’s yourself your talking about and not another member of the band.
Skip | 2/22/2007, 9:20 pm EST

$$ will bring MA back into the fold. Eddie kicked him out – NOT because of his friendship with Hagar – but because MA failed to attend Eddie & Alex’s mother’s funeral…once you’re in VH’s doghouse, you are DEAD MEAT
Dr. Ralph | 2/22/2007, 9:38 pm EST
These dumb ass motherfuckers haven’t done anything right since 1984. Millions of dollars are out there to be made and they just don’t understand. The Who hated each other and still made great music and cashed in forever! Fighting makes the music better. Hell Fair Warning was one of my favorite albums and you could tell Ed and Dave were on the outs from the lyrics. Eddie is a twelve year old head case who thinks he should be treated like royalty. Fuck him! The greatest guitar player ever and he won’t do a damn thing but smoke crack or meth or whatever. I really wanted some new music but this selfish asshole can’t get his shit together long enough. He doesn’t deserve the musical genius God gave him… he’s throwing it away!
hot4cheetah | 2/22/2007, 9:45 pm EST
Man the dirt on this band would be enough to fill a huge book. and someone better write it one day. from beer and broads to the millions in the bank over night, and the fallout and exit of david lee roth. too the truth behind one of the industrys most exclusive address’s in the valley, the recording studios of 5150..
Bewilderbeast | 2/22/2007, 9:47 pm EST
Honestly, people may consider dave the “better” frontman, but there is no denying the fact that the band had better sales figures with Sammy at the helm.
Also, it helps that Sammy is a good buisnessman rather than some disgusting old prick in spandex.

Skip and what’s-his-name need to get a room. it is nice to see an expanded get-down. I am THE original Van Halen fan. Old enough to remember when it was gonna be called VanRoth.
There was a dutch band signed to American Arista at the time and they had some old school money behind them and they were gonna pitch a hissy..throw down wit some GREEN, and so Dave backed down and ALEX got his way. . .Alex is a fabtastic beat boy.
Listen to the intro to HOT FOR TEACHER..are you DEAF?
it’s Moonish AND KRUPA-esque in the same goddamn instant.
It’s fuckin Marching Band on acid.
So they had an idea. Let’s PLAY again. But hold it..everybody thinks Ed is lost..gone..needs a dentist and a fine tooth comb.
EDDIE don’t care, does he Tim? Have YOU looked in a mirror lately? Theses guys spent years brining the rock. EDDIE gave up some decent prom-head..so you could grab the nearest buzz and crank up your git-go.
it will be..if we let it.
BabaO'Really | 2/23/2007, 2:39 am EST
Skip and what’s-his-name need to get a room.
But really, it’s nice to see an expanded get-down here.
I am the original Van Halen fan. I was there when the name of the band was VANROTH. There was a dutch band with the same name signed to American Arista and they threatened to flash some GREEN protest and Alex got his way. . .Eddie could really not care. right Tim?
as far as ALEX’s drumming? What are ya, deaf? Crank up Hot for Teacher..it’s Moonish and Krupa-esque in the same instant. It’s marching band on acid.
So everyone thinks Eddie is lost…gone..needs a dentist and a fine-tooth comb..right? Well have YOU looked in a mirror lately?
These guys brought the rock for DECADES so that you could grab the nearest buzz and split the atoms of your OWN imagination.
So they had an idea. Let’s play again. And as it tumbled into reality, the planets started lining up and EVERYONE realized just how HUGE this could be.
Take a deep breath. Exhale.

look were all sick of this in one way or another.I liked the whole band fron start to finish. With DLR and Sammy.Had no probs with the change, Van Halen was still Van Halen.Except for the brain fart with Gary.Every band eventually has egos and other problems,(expecially if your lucky to last this long(.Bands change players..no biggie. Agreed the idea of Wolfie playing in this band is a let down. But you have to at least say they are trying to make out for us. If not Mike, why not Eddis son? Eddie probally tought Wolfie to play.As far as who has the biggest ego in the band? Sure Ed has a big one, but Daves always took the cake. And It got bigger when he left to solo. A big reason he lost alot of players he had.And ened up being a paramedic in NY.Ive seen the band 36 times through out. So Ill be there when and If they get the ship righted. So How can you just say without knowing that this was just Eddies fault???? They all drink and all are very good at that. Untill the facts come out, and WE know why or what caused it, Ill hold judgement. And if you all are,as you clame to be big Vh fans, you will too. And stop feeding the rumor mill yourselves.
Brian | 2/23/2007, 4:47 am EST
This is a difficult tour I can see DLR camp and Van Halen camp working but I have to agree with Sammy Hagar on Wolfgang. He is just to young to put on a major tour , Michelle Anthony should be the bass player. This is a sad day for me and all other Van Halen fans, I have seen Roth with Van Halen during the Diver Down tour , and I have seen Sammy both great but Roth adds the rock to things right and get the tour going again .
melikumbox | 2/23/2007, 5:33 am EST
Bottom line It wont be a VH tour with out Mike! Only way possible for that to happen would be for wolfgang in his very young mind figure out he will be in the music industy in some way shape or form either making it or be involved in in some way!if he chooses. that if he says to DAD ,im going to step down and give the spot back to mikey! thats the only way i can see that happening because weve all heard Ed say i dont give a fuck what the fans want or say in so many words! I know im living in a dream land But wasnt that a great dream to see ed and dave back on stage kickin ass even if it is ten years late!
WTF | 2/23/2007, 7:47 am EST
Van Halen is Ed and Dave. PERIOD!
No bassplayer, no Alice and no Spammy McGaygar.
Van Halen isn’t a playground for little rich kids either, regardless of whaever DNA pool somebody swam in.
I’ve seen the REAL Van Halen enough to know that Van Hagar and Ga y Halen weren’t even in the same league. I’ve seen Dave on his own countless times to know that he brought an authenticity to the classic Van Halen tunes.
Get this tour on the road, and start promoting it. The Police have sucked the oxygen out of the summer and that was traditionally Van Halen’s time to shine. If you’re going to sit up on Howdy Doody Mountain then at least record some new material and put that out.
DDog | 2/23/2007, 9:51 am EST
folks its just a reunion tour…
its not a time machine – its like the 1984 VH will be there….
things chnage and not always for the best…
Take the greatest hits of ‘Van Hagar’ and put it against the 1st Montrose album – I think THATS the Sammy that Eddie wanted, but it never quite happened becasue Sammy had changed …..and Dave has changed …… Im old, I saw VH open for Sabbath wen I was in High School and I saw the 1984 tour….and Im also a Montrose and Van Hagar fan………. but hard rock is young mans game……
or wait til Britneys 50 ; ]
the Stones are about the only band thats realy gotten away with it….
go watch Dave on youtube, it looks silly
but it would be fun to see a 25th reunion in ‘09
the biggest difference is I wont be 24 again….. and maybe its better t hat the kids DONT have t here VH memory of an OLD Vh,,,,,, Legends are more fun than reunions ; ]
The Pimp | 2/23/2007, 10:06 am EST
The only way this ever happens is Eddie needs to clean himself up he cant even remember his owns music his kid had to play it for him. Also Eddie wil have to check his ego and make up with Mike and go out has the original band thats what will sell. The average person does not care anymore just us diehards. There are some serious issues with Ed and thses guys only played one time together what is that.

Van Halen Tour On Hold But Still In The Works
David Lee Roth
February 23, 2007, 2:00 PM ET
Ray Waddell, Nashville
A prospective Van Halen tour with original frontman David Lee Roth has derailed. Sources tell Billboard.com the decision to postpone the outing indefinitely was not due to any internal strife among band members. Insiders close to the situation say a tour is still in the works and will happen, though when is anybody’s guess.
The tour, negotiations for which were first tipped here on Jan. 24, will feature Roth, Eddie and Alex Van Halen, and Eddie Van Halen’s teenage son Wolfgang on bass. A spokesperson for the Van Halen brothers confirmed the tour in a Feb. 3 press release.

Look this idea here is not new to aging Rockers. Plan a big tour, that sounds great to their fans. But, then for some reason, they postpone the tour, why? To drive up attendance for the tour, more publicity, and the big factor,Money!!!Like I said nothing new about any of this. Why rant and rave about it? Its just thr reaction they wanted to see. The more everyonetalks or gets pissed about it, the more others will want to go see it. Just to see what all the fuss is about.
Its stupid to fight about it on blogs like this. If you dont like the waiting game or the players,GET THE FUCK OUT!!! You were not a fan to begin with. All yall act like you all know these guys personally. You all are like those hair- brained Elvis fans. Who

Michael Anthony do not be worried about not being included with Van Halen anymore. Instead of sitting on the couch and having to wait for Eddie and Alex to get their heads straight, you did the right thing and went out on tour again with one of the class acts ever, Sammy Hagar. The Hall of Fame induction is going to be great when Hagar goes out after DLR and blows the world away. You should be included in this reunion tour, that’s the only way I’ll pay to see it. Too bad you have comittments with Hagar for the 2nd annual Cruise and Birthday Bash. We’ll not really. I was in Tahoe last year for a Hagar/Anthony/Wabo concert and Sammy never sounded better. What a great concert. Thank you for handing me that huge glass of Jack Daniels.

I think it would be in good taste to let david lee roth come out ahead and accept this award (initially) for the band, and then the band slowly approaches up behind dlr and one at a time they say something them selves. with sammy hagar behind mikey on oppisite sides of dlr, like sammy/mike/alex/eddie/dlr then the podium (or alex/mikey) but then that would probably go over as well as a lead baloon, but maybe ill be surprised. but just expect heavy back-lash if they visualy and physicly try to alienate dlr from this award and or any proceedings acompanying it.
BabaOreally | 2/24/2007, 11:43 am EST

at the Hall, Ed should come to the podium 1st. then Alex, thanking Ed. Then Mike saying he was lucky to know Ed and Alex and HE intros DavidLee. and after a surprisingly restrained lil speech, DLR says hey to Sammy, who comes out with Gary and Wolfie and Valerie. (naked).

scarytimesat5150 | 2/24/2007, 9:47 pm EST
These guys and this whole getting back together again thing sounds less glamorous and more pretentious every day.
Dr. Ralph | 2/24/2007, 10:13 pm EST
And someone said “Fair Warning” lord will strike this poor band down…
Wolfgang | 2/24/2007, 10:13 pm EST
Oh c’mon dad, gimme a break… one break, coming up!!!
Dr. Ralph | 2/24/2007, 10:50 pm EST
Shit Eddie, put out a cover album. That’s what you do best anyway, like Jimi and “All Along the Watchtower” or “The Star Strangled Banner”. I can almost hear the bombs bursting in air Van Halenized… kinda like your intro to Orbison…. Pick up that god damned guitar and tell Wolfie to put two rocks in the fucking stem… now hold your breath and WOW!!! Blow all our minds too..
SallyStruthersSandwich | 2/24/2007, 11:44 pm EST
There having a better weekend i bet. if your in a recording studio located in the valley right now, and the studio happens to have a name of “5150″ you come from the makings of better weekends. im sorry but:

How about a Valerie Bertinelli sandwich? Sounds a hell of a lot better to me! Hey Eddie, want a bite?
HeadBanger | 2/25/2007, 2:47 am EST
Got one question for all of you. From the first album on this band has had these problems, almost like
a soap opera, why does this new problem any different? Thats what gets these guys going, part of their plans, always strat or have something going on. This band always lives up to them too. They
never can just put out an album then tour, like other bands. They have to have some kind of build up.
For some reason, I loved the music from day one,and have followed them all the way through.VH 1 ( with Dave) was good, Eddie was it for all future players. The only thing I thought was out was Daves, ego and attitude. Listening to him talk or reading him in an interview, made me want to punch him myself. I kept yelling at him:’
Hey you ass, its not all about you, you are just a 1/4 part of one of the great bands. There are 3 more in this band”
VH 2 with Sammy) Was even better, seeemed like a full tight unit for the first time, and it showed with the albums they put out.pure platinum all the way. The only thing wrong I thought was the fact
Sammy was doing most of the guitar work, while Eddie was doing keyboards. And to the poster who was bitching about “live without a net” look again moron. What I see in that video was a band finally having fun again. Notice how they all smiling and laughing? they just couldnt stop. Fun, fun, fun.All the pics of the band were the same.
Now VH 3, (Gary) is the part I want to forget totally. Not going to touch it at all.
I knew from onset when the first attemt to reform with Dave, came out, I knew that wasnt going to work. How can you seal up that arrogant SOB, and get it to play as a part of the group and not think it was the whole thing? And this is a guy in his solo, who would come out on stage with a 12ft
inflatable mic stapped to his crotch. Made his band wear and play just what he wanted them to play, even in thier solo part of the concert. No wonder hehad a revolving door for players.
So, hang tight, this will happen, when they get through with their little games.
Skip | 2/25/2007, 4:47 am EST
“VH 2 with Sammy) Was even better…”
That’s comical. Good one.
Dr. Ralph | 2/25/2007, 10:58 am EST
Fuck Live Nation… Who died and made them God? The same pricks who announce no Van Halen are selling the amphitheatre and cancelling all concerts this year in Nashville… Beverly Hills, that’s were I wanna be NOT!!!
Valerie Bertinelli | 2/25/2007, 11:05 am EST
There’s NOTHING good about Sammy Hagar. He’s just plain awful. He’s even awful at being a bad example of a lead singer. He should run for the border and stay on the other side with Mona and all of the other illegal aliens bassplayer included.
MyCherone-a... | 2/25/2007, 11:52 am EST
i had a store. a marketing company was giving us a chance to have a big VH3 pre-release listening party. the CD was Fed-Xed overnight and we were set to rock…People were quoted as saying “Eddie could get a hair-lipped midget” to sing and VH would STILL rock.
I had ordered 10 copies that moring for Teusday’s Street Date. The Disc came and we tore open the package and put that bitch in the player… 1/2 way through, I called back the distributer and changed the order to ONE.
What a DUD.
This is where the DOUBT about Eddie began IMHO.
The "Dime" | 2/25/2007, 12:35 pm EST
You think ed’s going to live that long?I found one story that said the reason they were rushing this tour was to get one more tour in before he is unable to function, apparently the cancer that was supposed to be cured was coming back and He thought he could get through a short tour with his son for the last time. The disease came on stronger and faster, thus calling for the cancellation. That is why David Lee Roth made the comment about not knowing if the Van Halens would be attending the RRHOF ceremonies. Our prayers are with You Ed.
VH ONE | 2/25/2007, 12:45 pm EST
Eddie is waisting away for various reasons ie: drugs, alcohol and I’m sure that little medical lab in NY that he founded didnt cure his cancer, Promoters wont gamble on Eddie making it through the tour without falling apart. Its too bad, it woulda been nice. Michael Anthony is doing the best thing, palying with Sammy is by far much more normal than dealing with the VH sisters, too much denial at 5150
HeadBanger | 2/25/2007, 2:19 pm EST
well if those cancer things are true. Then maybe Eddie should have tought Wofie how to play guitar, so he could take over, and not bass. I hope to hell they a wrong, but if not, Ill have all the good times to fall back on. Get well Ed,
I can understand this then.He took a turn for the worst and they have to wait and see if he’ll be able to do the tour.
Mark Allen | 2/25/2007, 2:44 pm EST
These dudes are no better than Guns’n Roses.
You can’t fool around with drugs and the occult ( check out the last two words in “the Satanic bible” by Anton Z. Lavey. They’re usually printed in the book with a stamp. It the same as the title of one of DLR’s solo songs.)
Herion addiction and channelling are nothing that anyone can control. They control you, tear your body and mind apart, and then the demons spit you out when they’re through with you. (Axl, Eddie, Jimi, etc…)
Prediction: Ed will be too sick to attend the R’n'R HOF induction, and will die before years end.
Dr. Ralph | 2/25/2007, 3:40 pm EST
Well I’m in redneck heaven. Sitting in Music City USA aka Nashville Tennessee watching Sammy and Michael Anthony tear it up at California Speedway before the Nextel Cup race. Having fun and singing “I Can’t Drive 55″ to 92,000 in the grandstands and 100 suites and how many in the infield? Not to mention national television coverage with millions watching. Get a clue Ed. I guess this is as close to a Van Halen reunion as we’ll ever get.

Mark | 2/25/2007, 8:25 pm EST
I saw them tour for the 2nd album through Fair Warning, then again for 1984. Never saw them with Hagar, didn’t care. Ed’s tone got real generic, didn’t really care to see it anymore. But then, I’m an old fart who had just started playing guitar when that first album came out. It was the epitome of “mind-blowing”.
Their best album? The first.
I don’t think I’d go see this. I still remember those early shows, they were great.
Redrocker | 2/25/2007, 9:17 pm EST
What a joke Van Halen the band has become. I saw DLR a year or so ago and he wasn’t that good. Good for Michael Anthony for joining Sammy. Sammy and Mikey can have a great time playing and hanging out together. Did someone say Mas Tequila!

We know what happened, Our Fat lil Wolfie flunked gym.
Summer School has derailed Van-Halen.
Sammy was phenomonal.Daves a Joke.
Dave is a paramedic now.
If your A David Weave Roth Fan it’s because you like the videos and old albums.
FYI: Dave had to sing line by line on those old albums because he couldn’t stay in key.
Also, no live album from DimeBag Dave: Because he was HORRIBLE live. He talked his way through songs.
The Sam and Dave tour wab an eye opener. Dave was embarisingly goofy. This was not your imagined lead singer from the videos. He was horrible.
No Mike, No Go
GIDDYUP COUNTRY DAVE | 2/26/2007, 12:22 am EST
Dave couldn’t get along with Vai or Sheehan either.
Dave IS goofy.
Who plays on a VAN HALEN TRIBUTE ALBUM.
Note to DLR: You were IN VAN HALEN.
You don’t PLAY ON YOUR OWN TRIBUTE ALBUM.
And it was COUNTRY.
Go to UTUBE and watch that embarassing video. Thats who you get now.

I pray that Eddie is healthy. I pray that IF Ed IS healthy that all 4 ORIGINAL guys, Dave, Ed Michael and Alex can work and give us fans a tour. If Ed is healthy and they won’t or can’t tour for some unknown problem that screw Van Halen as a band. Maybe Michael is doing the smartest thing and partying ways with VH!

Rage Beyond The Stage: Dave VS Sammy Uncensored Part 2
Sammy Hagar, “That’s difference between us, Dave’s a rock star.”
He whines the entire video. It’s effing pathetic.
“Dave is a paramedic now.” And your point is? Dave has said many times he always wanted to be a paramedic. This just says your a putz that can’t see the forest for the trees.
Axeman | 2/26/2007, 9:11 am EST
At one time or another (pre-80) they approached eddie about just replacing everyone including his own brother at one point in time or another, like they had this interest to re-create some kind of twisted rock & roll version of the bay city rollers or something (where everybodys perfect in looks and abilities) an early industry created band that was not un-commonplace to some extent thru most of the 80s-90s, and that thankfully never occured. people dont seem to realise how close they actually were about not having to deal with david lee roth/michael anthony or even alex van-halen. it gets even more coincindental, strange and weirder than this, but thats room for a book.
Great News | 2/26/2007, 9:13 am EST

Regarding a post below: I think the “Dave VS Sammy Uncensored Part 2″ video on youtube is one of the funnier things I’ve seen lately. Sammy saying “if you get this dressing room you’re f#@ked” made me laugh. And Dave’s luminescent spandex, triplet kitties and “I am the party” quote are priceless. Hee-hee. That’s good stuff.
It occurred to me while watching that their tour together could have been highly entertaining reality TV. Possibly/probably far better than the tour itself. I would have watched!

Love early Van Halen….Sammy was/is a Fuckin’ joke!! Eddie lost the plot years ago as evidenced by that time he was bugging Nirvana to let him “Jam” with them live on stage . Nirvana promptly huddled and talked about letting him play a few notes and then were gonna just push him offa the stage into the audience!!!Too bad this didn’t happen!! They just told him no instead as they felt merciful and didn’t really wanna embarrass the King numbskull of wank-style playing!! Wot a missed opportunity. That stupid fucking guitar he “plays”…He ain’t no Link Wray ,that’s fer sure!! Or Ron Asheton for that matter.Anyways..Captain Sensible plays rings around Eddie. The “Fair Warning” lp does rip, though.

Eddie was drunk at NAMM at the Fender release.
http://www.youtube.com/watch ?v=sIr-WBZT1MI
He also just did a video with Matt Bruik (Valerie’s sisters husband and part of VH management) for the new fender frankenstein replica guitars, he was wasted through the whole video that came out as a disk in Guitar World Magazine. I think what we are seeing here is EVH in the last stages of Alcoholism. Maybe he is in Rehab with Brittany, I hope so I don’t want to loose such a great virtuoso talent like we have lost so many.

Nobody know whats going on, and nobody will until its really meant to be known. Van Halen has always been good at this game with when and where they turn up again and with who. Us as true fans must stop believing things like “Eddie died” or “the Tour was canceled because of such and such” and whozits fault”. That is why this world (partally) is crazy because of rumors. All that we can do is wait to see what happens at the hall of fame induction next month.

Vh1moretime | 2/27/2007, 6:06 pm EST
Last greatest summer i had was at the pine knob music theatre in 1993 when van halen, namely eddie was in best form. using his yellow/gold music man guitar. effortlessly jumping around hitting all the notes perfectly in his faded blue jeans with holes in the knees and those over sized shirts that he wore, along with sammy, michael and his bro. just utterly fantastic sound and performance. never again will a july night feel as warm, or that a band of that calibre ever be able to pull off what van halen had done that night!
Dr. Ralph | 2/27/2007, 7:48 pm EST

Was he supposed to be, I don’t know, more presentable? He’s a freakin musician. Everyone knows musicians tend toward the awkward. Do any of you really think that without Eddie there would even have been VH 1, let alone all the permutations?
and Skip, keep up the Dave defense, the jury is starting to swing back. I found the SamHalen albums to be generic-y, although it was a good move for the boys to just find someone to get along with and party, and that’s the summation of the SamDaze.

I realize that half of what made Van Halen what they were is Eddie, but seriously there will never be another successful incarnation of this band until there is no Eddie Van Halen in it. And even then it wouldn’t feel right. So Dave: go do your thing, and Eddie: disappear and never come back.

Van Halen fan since the 70’s. Knowing Dave from the albums and videos he allways was envisioned as this cool rock and roll type guy.
Has anybody seen Roth in the past 5 years ?
He is downright goofy.Just START at his facial expressions? Has he had plastic surgery. Does he make you cringe when you here him speak with those goofy comments ?
Then take his performances. What an idiot. That, “magic” is gone. Just go look at his country music strumming with the devil on UTUBE.
Dave is a mess, Eddie is a mess, No Michael Anthony. Whats up with that ?
No matter what happens, EVERYONE should SAY they are going to go, then, turn around at the ticket booth at the last minute and leave them with empty halls.
Serves em right for all of this insanity they are putting us through.
Maybe ten years ago, not now.
This is not a reunion. This is an embarrassment.

There is no “gate” at the compound. It’s a bit different than that. Dave affording a limo, c’mon the guy is a paramedic. It all sounds hokey to me.
F Wolfy. No one knows about this prodigy bull crap .I think it would be funny if they pelted DrunkDaddies boy with urine filled plastic bottles.
Wheres Michael Anthony.
WOLFIESUPPORTER | 3/1/2007, 2:23 pm EST
LEAVE WOLFY ALONE, HE IS NOTHING SHORT OF GENIOUS,THANK GOD HE IS GODS GIFT TO BASS PLAYING/SINGING BACK UP IN VH, VH WOULD NOT BE THE GROUP IT IS TODAY IF NOT FOR WOLFGANG VAN HALENS GRAND ROLE.
weeop | 3/1/2007, 2:31 pm EST
AT THE ENTRANCE THEN…..DAVE IS STILL WELL OFF…..HE JUST BECAME A PARAMEDIC BECAUSE HE HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO,HE DID IT ON A WHIM NOT BECAUSE HE HAD TO.WOLFIE IS A TALENTED PLAYER ON BOTH BASS AND GUITAR AS WELL AS IN THE RECORDING STUDIO.
And your Roth can't sing | 3/1/2007, 2:50 pm EST
Did you read where Dave said he wouldn’t sing with Sammy at the RRHOF.
Thats because Roth can’t sing. When they recorded those old VH albums, ROth had to resing everything line for line.
Been There | 3/1/2007, 3:17 pm EST
weeop
How can you say ANYTHING about Wolfboy. No one has heard him yet.Being a great musician has nothing to do with genes. He is being handed a spot on the tour because Daddy says so. He should, deservedly so,get NO respect from the fans.Mike is the original bassist… period.
Daves doing the reunion tour because he NEEDS THE MONEY. Van Halen has mentioned many times that they signed the worst contract in Warner history. Thanks Mo. Then , when everything was renogitiated, Dave had to sue (late 90’s) because he was(hmmm, absentmindedly ?!?!?) Left out of the renogiation on the old stuff.Thinking Eddie isn’t in it for the money as well is just being naive.
Dave is embarassing as a solo artist. He couldn’t keep himself on a label. You want to look at talent, Sting, although not my particular taste, is a credible artist. Dave does country (WHAT ?) TRIBUTE Van Halens albums. Dave was in Van Halen. Why is he doing a TRIBUTE album to Van Halen. Go look at that UTUBE country songs. That is the new, allways Goofy, David Weave Roth.
I saw the Sam and Dave “Sans Halen” tour and WANTED Dave to kick ass. It was goofy. It was embarrassing.I felt cheated.
So, people say, “Well, Mike plays with Sammy”. So did Dave ? Theres no excuse.
And now the tours Kaput.
In reality, it’s a shame this show is 10 years too late. It would have really rocked out back then.
I saw the 2004 show. Eddie was a mess. I was at the first show, Newark show, and Chicago.
I have become more of a Sammy fan because Sammy has allways seemed to put the fans first. He seems to care as well as the fact that he can sing.
I used to really care about this band. I can not pay to see shows anymore that are subpar with an acheing feeling that it somehow has become Kiss.
And then, after 30 years, they, the Van Halens Brothers, have Mike sign over his band rights, make him take huge paycuts and then humiliate his role by having a 15 year old kid step in.
No more. Clean up Ed. More than just your drug habits
When Eddie leaves rehab | 3/1/2007, 3:20 pm EST
You know what Eddies is going to say after his 10 year drunk ?
I hired David Lee WHO BACK ?!?!?!?
All About the money | 3/1/2007, 3:24 pm EST
Eddie was painting guitars in his garage, Playing them on tour, then selling them on ebay. Why rip off the fans like that ! Because they will pay ?
Ozzfest is free. That is a phenomonal statement
Who knows that | 3/1/2007, 3:28 pm EST
When I read “WOLFIE IS A TALENTED PLAYER ON BOTH BASS AND GUITAR AS WELL AS IN THE RECORDING STUDIO. ”
I must say, who would know that . It must be somebody posting that crap from the Van Halen camp.It can’t be a real fan.Besides I heard Wolfie plays Bass and Drums.
Wolfie, time for bed. Uncle Mike needs his bass Guitar back
Rebecca | 3/1/2007, 4:35 pm EST
Wolfgang VanHalen
The talent has to be in the genes.I’d love to see him play.
I bet he is amazing. Sure, i miss Anthony!! and wish Dave AND Ed would surprise us all. And if Ed is drinking or being a jerk; i am very let down. So let’s hope for a turnaround if that is even the truth. VH forever!
Comment- Why would Valerie let Ed take Wolfie on tour if any of that crap is true anyway? She probably wouldn’t..so yeah, rumors.
Rebecca – Austin
Breaking Wolfaducci | 3/1/2007, 5:09 pm EST
GREAT COMMENT REBECCA
Why IS Valerie allowing her son to tour with Van Halen ?
Roadies offer drugs and alcohol, Middleaged woman with huge cameltoe and god knows what diseases.
Add to that only being 15 years old, and well, your looking at the next Danny Bonnaducci.
Wow, Ed, mess up your kid, as well as your life AND a great band.
Wheres Valerie. No, wait a minute…Wheres DCFS ? This kids going to be a mess
Carla | 3/1/2007, 5:35 pm EST
I don’t understand your comment at all Rebecca. This board is not for naysayers, but true fans.
I say the true fans ARE the dissenters, not the lambs who just allow any old version of VH to appear on the scene.
I would say the greatest act of being a fan is to stand up and complain about the absurdity of all of these shenanigans and how they are ruining what was once a great band.
If people did not care, they would not be looking and adding their comments. When a person says the truth on here, everybody else wants to sugarcoat the obvious, that this has turned into a complete disaster.
I Have been very quiet on here lately, but no more.
I support the comments on here.I have been a fan since the early 80’s and can not tolerate what this band has turned into. A joke.
Thank god people are mouthing off about it.
Bring Mike back. No 15 year old kid (or anyone) should or can replace him.
I have been to many VH concerts. I will not attend any more. Period . My opinion, and I used to LOVE this band.
H L Mencken | 3/1/2007, 5:37 pm EST
The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair. H L Mencken
ludwig dude | 3/1/2007, 5:44 pm EST
Don’t care what anyone here says, You all sound like a bunch of bitches wha wha wha! If VH comes back Im gonna see even if Im the only one there! Anyways if Eddie is in rehab and IF thats true then good for Eddie man, I can wait to see him next year when he gets his stuff in order and yeah I don’t think its the same without Mike either but lets see what the kids has got before all of the trash talk OH YEAH by the way most of you arn’t loyal, STAY AWAY!!!
H L Mencken | 3/1/2007, 5:45 pm EST
What is a lyal fn. I also agree the loyal ones are the ones complaining.
Eddie Van Elvis | 3/1/2007, 5:49 pm EST
Dude, does Eddie still paint curbs with the house numbers ? Eddie, go dry up, please. The only issues revolve around you.Alex is cool, As I have said before: Sammy and Michael are cool as hell.Dave is a time bomb waiting to explode, but hey, what else is new.Hopefully Dave will be cool if he realizes that schtick and goofy jokes don’t cut it anymore.Put em ALL together.
I'm on fire | 3/1/2007, 5:52 pm EST
You know this guy can’t be a fan because he is so pro anything Eddie does. Probably is Eddies drug connection.
No Mike, No my Money. No Mo !
That noise in the background- the crickets chirping, must be the sound of VH reunion tour.
Oh, the band finally got together, after 8 more years they are finally playing, but the fans moved on……
Well if your SOOO into the family thing you Bell Head, you’d probably go if Valerie was singing, Buttwipe.
I can’t help if your mullett waited around living in your parents basementfor 20 plus years for both VH and Roth’s career to fall so low, that nothing else is a better career decision.
Face the facts. And why stick up for a 15 year old kid who Daddy is giving a job to. If you want the real reunion, you should scream for the return of Michael Anthony.
Be a real fan, not a lemming.
James Baldwin | 3/1/2007, 5:59 pm EST
I love Van Halen more than any other Band in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize Van Halen perpetually.
Why ruin the good of the reunion tour with the bad of ousting Michael Anthony.
It seems that fans are begging to see Dave has been Roth sooo much, you would probably accept Eddies 15 year old son on bass.
Oh, um, it seems you already have.
Mike, We love you. Your a class act, and you have been great for the last 30 years of this band.
Eddie, go dry out.
Chica Voy | 3/1/2007, 6:02 pm EST
WHAT I DO NOTICE IS THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF ANGER HERE. A LOT OF PEOPLE CARE.GET BACK WITH SAMMY AND MIKE. DAVE SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED 10 YEARS AGO.JUST MY OPINION.
Rebecca is an idiot | 3/1/2007, 6:06 pm EST
REBECCA obviously is an idiot.
By saying guitar talent is in the genes, is like saying it’s a trait, like blue eyes or blond hair.
It takes practice. It takes time.
Just because Eddie shot some white paint out 15 years old, that does not mean he has painted a masterpiece.
To All the REAL VH fans | 3/1/2007, 6:12 pm EST
How can we support this irrational behaviour. Why not hire everyone out in the band to other players, so you, the idiots ,can be satisfied with something you can call a reunion. Then your dumbass can pay a lot of money, get ripped off, and then be happy.Inthe Immortal words of Kurdt Cobain:I think your dumb
ludwig dude | 3/1/2007, 6:18 pm EST
no need for obsenities firefly,
I dont have a mullet and probably younger than you and respect some of the things you say and your right, Val bertinelli, come on now! But your wrong about the pro Eddie thing, I would rather he went to rehab than go on tour personally, I respect all of the members of the band, yes would rather see mike in there (nobody can play or sing backup like mike!! So now it wolfgang, well everone’s a critic.. Ill still go NO, YOUR RIGHT ITS NOT THE SAME
Look Alikes | 3/1/2007, 6:23 pm EST

ludwig dude.I’m on fire
I think his problems are a lot deeper than rehab.
There is rumor going around that Ed has taken a turn for the worse.Apparently he is no longer in remission. They were trying to rush this short tour thinking he could make it through .He wanted to play with his son while he was still able.It returned fast and hard.Thats Why David Lee Roth commented about not knowing if the van halens were going to the RRHOF awards
ludwig dude | 3/1/2007, 6:53 pm EST
I heard that too,
and lets hope thats not the case.
but if so , pray for all the best.
Dr. Ralph | 3/1/2007, 8:19 pm EST
Why is it that everyone wants to discount genetics? We breed horses to be fast, cows to give milk or grow fat fast, pot to get you high or produce rope but we can’t selectively breed humans? Sorry to tell you guys this but we have produced a master race. 12% of America is black but 77% of the NBA is black. Can you say white men can’t jump? Wolfgang’s father is the Secretariat of the guitar world. Let’s just pray his father has passed on his most important asset… and I’m not talking about bathing in Smoking Loon.
The Bealtes and Van Halen Fan | 3/1/2007, 8:26 pm EST
There canceling because David Lee Roth is all pissed about the new bassist and Eddie and David are fighting
One Day at a time | 3/2/2007, 12:36 am EST
Dr Ralph is soooo way right.
Wolfgang is a chubby bad TV actor, just like dear old Mom.
He is now pretending to be a bass player for Van Halen.
Its one thing to Jump (Might aas well jump!), it’s quite another to learn music fundamentals, chords, scales, modes, keys, notes, etc.
1 FAN IS TOO MUCH | 3/2/2007, 1:02 am EST
THE SAD THING IS I SEE SO MANY – 1 IS WAY TOO MUCH- VAN HALEN FANS WILLING TO ACCEPT EDDIE VAN HALENS 15 YEAR OLD TEENAGED KID. ENOUGHS ENOUGH ALREADY. FANS ARE TIRED OF THESE GOOFBALL PAIRINGS.
MY OTHER POST | 3/2/2007, 1:07 am EST
You are living in the past. You think of the David Weave Roth in videos. Oh, How cool ?
Its not the same seeing Van Halen with Roth. Do you think by propping up that goofball your getting the real Van Halen. Oh, you would. A guy who can’t sing a note , can’t kick, can’t do anything. Maybe Roth in 1978 was , well, acceptable. Roth is now a bobbing head mess.Do you think magic is going to come from a washed up old singer. I saw Dave on the Sam and Dave tour. That Night he headlined. OUCH. I and half the stadium walked out. He was embarassing. Keep In MIND, I wanted to see Dave Kill.DAVE WAS SILLY ! He talked through the songs. He messed up the lyrics. He was off key. I was there !
Any reunion WITHOUT Michael Anthony will lose the Van halen “Feel”. The first notes you ever heard on a Van Halen Album is the Mikey Anthony bass notes for Running with the devil.allways remember that.
Listen, if your looking at an old VH album now, thats the best were ever gonna get. I can’t help if you can not face reality.
If you won’t turn your back on Roth, why would you turn your back on Mike.
No Mike-No show from a REAL fan
HELLVET REVOLVER | 3/2/2007, 1:10 am EST
RIGHT ON
THIS REVOLVING DOOR POLICY OF BAND MEMBERS SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED.ED THINKS HE CAN DO ANYTHING AND THE WELL HEELED DOGS WILL OBEY. NOT ME, BROTHER.
Peace Sells But Whos buying | 3/2/2007, 1:32 am EST
Is the whole reunion just about Roth and Eddie ? Mike sang back up vocals. Mike played with the band up until now.Mike waited for Eddie for what amounts to 10 years doing nothing. The guy was super loyal. This guy bleeds honrability.
Most people do not know that to play the last tour, Ed made Mike sign away all his rights to VH, saying that was the last tour. Mike did it. he says he thought the band was finished, and he wanted to go out with VH. He said he did it for the fans. He took a huge paycut, and became a salaried employee.
Do we just want to see Roth rock again ? I am not sure about this one either.
No, if that was the case, go see Roth with a great guitarist like Vai. The only problem with that, nobody wants to work with Dave personally and professionally.Dave is really washed up.He couldn’t even tour. He was fired from his Vegas Lounge show act. There are so many tired performers in Vegas that have shows that last for 15-20 years.Dave lasted a few weeks.
So, you want to prop Ed up once more, grab Dave from the dumpster and it’s supposed to be pre 1984, and then get rid of an original member ?
I can’t buy this.
You shouldn’t either.
MR VHLINKS ARTICLE | 3/2/2007, 1:45 am EST
What should be a great time for Van Halen fans with the return of Dave, actually leaves a sour taste in the mouths of many, with the abrupt dismissal of the fan-favorite, and 30-year member Anthony. It seems the perfect reunion could have been a reality if petty differences were put aside. But it wouldn’t be Van Halen without a little controversy would it?
No matter how well the new band plays on their 40-show tour, there is no way to replace Mike’s stage presence, his attitude, his connection with the fans, or his incredible backing vocals, which are a signature part of the special Van Halen sound. Good luck to the guys in replicating all of that.
Tour dates have not been listed yet, nor is it known for sure if Van Halen will play at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 12. It is also not known whether Mike or Sammy Hagar will be at the event, although both have hinted that they plan to attend should there not be any animosity. Yeah someone tell Ed that.
Melodicrock Article | 3/2/2007, 1:48 am EST
Any tour billed as a Van Halen reunion certainly would not be an actual reunion without Michael Anthony on bass. If the band intends to keep any shred of credibility with the constant back-and-forths with singers, it would probably be wise for them to realize that Mike is an integral part of the band. If that needs to be explained to them, then it hardly seems worth it for VH fans to be that excited about something that isn’t really a Van Halen reunion.
This is the third time the band has tried to reform with David Lee Roth at the helm. There is of course the famous MTV Music Awards appearance and the failed reunion in 1996, which the band took a huge credibility hit from. The band tried again to get back with the singer in 2001, but those negotiations fell through as well. The band did reunite with Sammy Hagar in 2004 for a nationwide summer jaunt. But that tour ended on a sour note, and Sammy continues happily to tour with his band, with occassional guest appearances by Michael Anthony, billed as “The Other Half.”
Damian | 3/2/2007, 5:32 am EST
EVH, I’d like to be the next Van Halen front man please…Or I can learn how to play the bass before the summer. Thanks

Brapft | 3/2/2007, 6:31 am EST
Guys, we all know the articles and the interviews. nothing is going to pull this together with out the right mix. this teasing and flaunting crap and then soap opera-etique attitude since 1996 (11yrs now) is a rock’n roll disgrace. none of witch has seen the light of day since john lennon and yoko ono flaunted there crap against the greatest rock band in history, the beatles. and you know what came of it, want more? just stay tuned..
Rebecca | 3/2/2007, 12:01 pm EST
Such hatred! Sorry, not used to hearing such trash about EVH. I was only trying to support the tour. Sure i want to see the original 4. I have been waiting a long time. I will try to use an open mind when viewing some comments. However, some seem infantile and unintelligible to me. But i see your point and will try not to rock out too much in the front row when i see ED and Wolife or Ed and Anthony.
Peace
Rebecca | 3/2/2007, 12:04 pm EST
Truth is
I wanted to see them 10 years ago.
I’d like to see Wolfie come on stage sure..not as a replacement. Of course!!!!! And yeah, I have been dissapointed in ED. SOME.That’s the truth. So yeah, I understand. But some people are mean. That’s all i have to say.
See you there i hope! PEACE

After the last reunion attempts, who REALLY thought this was going to happen? The initial reunion news sounded good to me, but I remained sceptical.

Dude wth Richard ur gay … VAN HALEN MUST GO ON TOUR ITS MY LIFE DREAM!!
Troy | 3/2/2007, 12:50 pm EST
Van Halen III failed because there were no Micheal Anthony Backup vocals (Eddie thought he was the Van Halen sound). This attempt will fail or has failed for the same reason. When will Eddie learn!!! And when will we learn!!! The idea of either Sammy or David Lee works. You want a clean hard Van Halen, get Sammy. You want a sloppy hard Van Halen, get David Lee. Either way, without Micheal’s backup vocals, neither Sammy or David Lee will work. Eddie, for us the fans who make you money, get Micheal back. Tell Wolfgang that you’ll see him at the house.
HeadBanger | 3/2/2007, 1:21 pm EST
I hate to state the obvious here.
something we all are not wanting to admit. But what is happening to EVH and as well as Van Halen, what is tearing up the band and Eddie is his genius, just like all the ones before him. The yall are dead, and what seems to be the rule with rock and roll geniuses, the die dreadful deaths, or commit suicide. If he doesnt get strAIGHT, WE’LL LOSE HIM TOO.. It is reported before, that they have trouble coping, and later have big unstoppible egos. That Drives everyone away, and soon they are gone.
Get straight Eddie, or this will happen to you.
And to the person who was saying Dave was a messed up over the hill, singer. Yes we all know. He got kicked from this band, then later couldnt keep a solo band together, and much less a fan base.
Buy from what Ive see so far, since he has been a EMT, it appears that hes grown up alot. (But time will tell)
As far as Mike goes, I do believe he’s doing right ,right now, not wanting to be apart of this fucked up mess. And is doing what he loves, playing and rocking out live with Sammy. Can you really blame him? If and when Eddie does get well, then it will be time to get those four back. I have nothing against Wolfie wanting to play with Eddie. If you were handed that gift, what would you do in his place? Turn it down? HEll no!!! You all would jump at that, well he did too, so lay off him. He’s not the problem.
WallofVudu | 3/2/2007, 2:15 pm EST
You all know Edward’s health isn’t very good! I don’t think he’s in a perfect mental state. I believe he’s taking this situation all very personally. Sammy loves the VH brothers, but he’s got to make a living, and so does Michael. Ed, Al, Dave, Mike, and Sammy better be at the Rock & Roll ceremony together and celebrate the history of Van Halen. They all deserve it!! Even if they never tour or make albums, it’s ok! I still got my VH albums. I personnally wouldn’t care if I ever saw the original line up again. Sammy is by far a superior performer than Dave. Dave only sounded good in the studio. Ed, please let the personal stuff go!! And at least stand together for your induction into the RRHOF!!
David Lee Roth 1984 article | 3/2/2007, 3:28 pm EST
LR: Do you think you really are so established now that the audience will stick with you?
DLR: it’s difficult to tell. Because I know what I do when I like a band or I’m interested in an artist and listen to the record and I really enjoy it and I go and see the show and I love it, and I think about it all the time and every time the record comes on the radio I think about the way they looked on stage and when they’re on a cover of a magazine I buy the magazine and I take it home and read it and that’s great and then they come out with a mediocre album and I say “The hell with you.”
LR: When was the last time that you felt that way with a band?
DLR: With the Stones. I vacillate depending on the artist. If they have a good live show I will always to see the live show, but as for buying the record just because it’s so-and-so, forget it.
LR: So you’re very conscious that the audience is fickle and that you could lose them…
DLR: Absolutely, that’s why I feel no responsibility whatsoever to my fans.
LR: What???
DLR: Why should they feel any towards me? If I make a bum record, if I put out a lousy song, how can I possibly expect them to buy it?
LR: Are your song lyrics always about you?
DLR: Absolutely. All the songs are merely chapters in the world according to Dave. Dave as Dave sees it, Dave as others see Dave, what happened to Dave last night and how Dave feels this morning. You can give them titles, and seemingly change the scenario and the characters, but I don’t even have to look back in retrospect about it – I know it’s all about me and the people that are around me.
LR: How much time do you spend writing the lyrics?
DLR: I write them during the commercials. It took much longer this year, because I was watching cable.
LR: Don’t you think that shows a certain contempt for your audience?
DLR: Not at all, not at all.

391 comments and counting! This motherfucker is alive. One day at a time, Dr. Ralph IS soooo way right. The Wolfmeister grew up in a damn studio tripping over guitars (probably in more ways than one). His dad, uncle, grandad and probably most of the people he has associated with in his life are all professional musicians! Do you really think the boy hasn’t been playing his entire life? I know when Ed lies. It begins when he moves his lips. I wouldn’t believe a word about “new” material and records in the works. And, in the event he does have new material, it would likely be as sucky as what he delivered with VHIII. Ed is washed up.

they’ll be ok at the rrhof. there all gonna be there now sitting at there respective tables. eddies family, sammys, roths, and mikes. being an inducted band it is not unusual to let another band/artist honor you. sometimes later in the evening everybody might end up on stage together thats something that hasnt been unheard of before at the hall of fame. just a cheesy night with no obligations to carry anything fourth. cause i honestly dont believe eddie has it in him anymore (the passion) maybe just for his son and thats about it.
toula fattibene | 3/5/2007, 6:44 am EST
this is for evh, in 2004 i had bought 5 star packgaes to see you in three diffrent states which cost me a fortune but i felt it was worth it until i asked eddie for a kiss and he replyed no. i explained to him i had open heart surgery in 2003of jan. which is my birthday month too. and iwas told by three diffrent doctors i won’t live past 50. two heart valves in my heart burst and now there are two artifical ones there and leaking. the doctors even of the best of them can’t save me i was told. i died 7 times on the table during my surgery and somehow i made it through. now i have to use oxgen to breath for me due to having pulmanry heart pressure and which got worse and now i need to use a walker. i was in a car accident and had a heart attack which caused the accident. a i wittness saw the accident and told me later that the car spun and round twice and flipped over twice and landed upside down now this really took a toll on my heart and lungs and now other problems are starting to accure. my point is that eddie van halen was told all this and i was let down. i’ve been a fan of eddies since i was 16. now i am 45. eddie get this message and please respond back to me. us the postal service to respond sometimes my e-mail doesn’t work. my address 819 anderson hill road. candor , ny 13743. please prove to everybody you have a big heart and feelings for the dying. my last dying wish was to spend a few days and possibly a bass guitar with your authograph. this would make me a extremly happy woman that will die with a smile. belive me it is very hard to take what i have been through and stil be here. i have not funds to travel to see you because my cost for my surgery was 250,000 and i had no health insurance and i still paying for prescriptions until i die. i had to sell my house in long island ny to pay my hospital bill and move upstate n.y. please eddie show the world you still have care for all your fans. this is a small price to pay for life. for life is priceless. just stand in my shoes one day and you shall see what it feels like being told your going to die at my present age. i hate taking 25 pills a day just to keep me alive just for example morphin, vallium and many more . if it was up to me i would throw them all away and leave this earth . i belevie in god and my time is short. i know god will be coming to take me soon. so once again respond asap and please don’t disappoint me and the rest of the world of fans. i have proof of this and it’s not a hoax. trust me who would be sick enough to make up a story like that.i have the proof and belevie me the pain i deal with everyday of my life along with the ticking noise in my head from the heart valves and i could list a mile long but i’ve come to the end of this narrow life road. hope to hear from you soon. still luv you eddie van halen.xxxxooo. i pray you will not let me down again. broken hearted toula.
vegas rocker | 3/5/2007, 7:43 am EST
thinking about how VH would sound WO serious backing vocals and bass played by a kid who’s probably never gigged like this in his life makes it hard to imagine VH in concert as I remember them.
Mike Rafone | 3/5/2007, 12:32 pm EST
The common denominator here is clearly Eddie. The guy is at best an ego maniac and at worst quite literally insane. I also love the idea of putting a 15-y.o. boy on tour with drugs, booze, and a million chicks who want to statutory rape him every night. Oh and can they still play worth a damn…does DLR still have the pipes?? Doubtful. And I am not on my knees sucking M. Anthony but…he IS the key background vocalist to ALL of their hits so without him….the only screw that’s going to fall out around here is you, Eddie.
Pauly "Bag Of Donuts" | 3/5/2007, 12:50 pm EST
So what’s the story? Get over the petty BS and give the fans what they want, if that is you saying that Mr Ed, remember who got you where you are today, Anyways, it’s Dave we want to see!! HA! Love ya Diamond Dave!!!!
Muscles Marinara | 3/5/2007, 1:03 pm EST
Tough story there Toula, but don’t you think that Eddie hears those kind of stories 24/7? I could be wrong but you sound kind of obsessed with the guy, I’m sure the guy has compassion for dying people, he wouldn’t be a human being if he didn’t. I’m sure there was a reason he didn’t do what you wanted him to do. Remember, he goes all over the world and hears all kinds of reasons as to why you or someone else should have special treatment. I know, your situation sucks terribly but he has to be careful with whom he deals with, especially people he does not know. Remember John Lennon? This is a crazy world and I don’t blame him. Maybe next time try to work with his management and try to get something going that way, good luck, Muscles!!
Joe "Potato Salad" Macaroni | 3/5/2007, 1:11 pm EST
Well,is it on or is it off? I need to know, I’ve got alot of planning to do, gotta make the salad for the boys in the “crew”. When do the rehearsals start? When is the 1st date? Is there an opening act? I need to know this stuff, alot depends on all this man! I got to make the salad, make the salad. I haven’t taken my meds today either. Hey Van Halen, please get back together so I can be “normal” again. Signed, J “PS” M.
Muscles Marinara | 3/5/2007, 1:14 pm EST
Why did you guys take my comment down?I was just trying to help the gal.
Paul Saint J. | 3/5/2007, 1:22 pm EST
I know why they are not going to go on a tour right now. They are going to wait until The Police popularity goes down, their announcement took all the steam out of VH’s. I think they are waiting for the police to get busted, get sent up the river, go to the joint, get put in solitary.
wolfgang 5150 | 3/5/2007, 1:24 pm EST
dave is the great old guy, but i think he might just be gay.
bill | 3/5/2007, 10:42 pm EST
I CAN,T TAKE THIS ANYMORE.WITHOUT DAVE IT WILL NEVER BE VAN HALEN AGAIN.DROP THE EGO,S AND LETS ALL HAVE FUN.ED,S DRINKING HAS KILLED THIS BAND.DRINKING IS GREAT BUT HOW MANY YEARS CAN YOU GO BEFORE YOU HIT THE WALL?
yiff | 3/6/2007, 12:34 am EST
ed’s an old nuerotic coot from the sound of things and peoples opinions. im sure a lot has gone to his head ego wise. your allowed some but too much breeds arrogance. mix in alcohol for one hell of a ride! hide out on your mansion/recording studio compound and just have cigarettes/booze “smoking loon wine” and food brought in 24/7 along with a little lady luck (hide the press from the prosti’s!) and ego polishing and lifes a breeze and your a god!
mike dabs | 3/6/2007, 8:57 am EST
a vh tour with dave would be awesome but these rich sobs dont care about us the fans take theyre fame and cash then theyre will be a tour of great proportions i aint waiting much longer grow up guys
Bob A. | 3/6/2007, 3:05 pm EST
I heard through a very reliable source that the tour will happen, and the reason for the shut down is because Roth has refused to tour with Eddie unless he goes to rehab to get his alcohol problem under control.
marty | 3/6/2007, 4:33 pm EST
y cant they both just suck it up for the fans, AND PLAY THE CONCERT.
hot4cheetoes | 3/6/2007, 6:38 pm EST
Because they would need to get lawyers involved. a ton of paper signing, insurance and contracts would have to be written up ect.. it costs too much money to be vague with each other, its either there going to do it (and eddie will know for damn sure if he will or not) or its just not gonna happen. you cant sneeze in this industry with out it costing somebody (namely you if your in van halen) a lot of money.
Dr. Ralph | 3/6/2007, 7:24 pm EST
It’s gonna happen… I smell something and it ain’t teen spirit! Eddie and Dave can’t drop the ball on this one or they both know it’s over. From the size of this never ending blog we all need what no one else can give us. We were too young for the Beatles and Stones, we had AC/DC, Aerosmith, Nugent and Kiss and then we had real Rock and Roll… sounds never before heard… guitarists crying and little girls wetting their panties. We had that once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of something new. The insanity of a guitarist who broke all the rules. Whammy bar dives, harmonics, hammer ons, pull offs, playing with the volume knob on the Frankenstrat with his right hand while going crazy with his left… It was like listening to Sgt. Pepper the first time with headphones and a hit of blotter. You stood up and said what the hell is going on here??? Now give me some more… please…
Dr. Ralph | 3/6/2007, 8:25 pm EST
Whoever keeps crying about Sammy (noballs) Hagar being the best frontman needs to check their data. Van Halen is one of only five artists to ever sell more than 10,000,000 copys of two separate albums. VH1 and 1984. Diamond status is what the Recording Industry Association of America calls it. Now you know why they call him Diamond Dave. Hell Van Halen is number nineteen on the alltime greatest selling bands list with 56,500,000 sold. VH, VH2, and 1984 account for half of those alone… get your facts right before you get on the web motherfuckers…
ROB | 3/6/2007, 10:48 pm EST
I know there are many bigger, more important, or more profound issues that might come to mind when starting a sentence this way, but one of my biggest regrets in life is not having ever seen the original line-up of Van Halen in concert. No joke. That may seem quite petty to some, but I really think I missed out on something special. I mean, I’ve seen Roth solo twice, and Van Halen with that little guy singing once, but it just wasn’t the same. I know Michael Anthony wasn’t going to be on board for this one, but to see and hear ‘the guitar’ and ‘the voice’ back together would have been great. I thought I finally would have gotten a monkey off my back! Guess not, for now.
Last year my wife took me to see Motley Crue for the first time as my Valentine’s day gift. I really appreciated it, but just couldn’t help but think that 2006 was a far cry from 1986. Like the Crue, I know they’re far from their heyday, but I don’t think a VH show would leave me one bit unsettled. Again, monkey gone! Make it happen!!!!
matt herold | 3/7/2007, 1:29 am EST
it has to happen i mean it is goin to be the biggest tour of the summer. alot of fans will be disapointed if this tour doesnt happen. but i have faith
James "Hacksaw" | 3/7/2007, 9:56 am EST
I thought atleast they would do a few dates before the EGO kicked in full force. I thought a reunion was when all members get togther? If They want wolfgang in also I suggest let him sit him in a few songs maybe. There would be nothing wrong with that. So lets do the tour so you can make your ego explode….ha…

I feel your pain Rob! I have been waiting to see DLR and EVH on stage together for 23 years!!!
hot4cheetoes | 3/7/2007, 1:52 pm EST
Its not looking good now as of 3-7-07 sammy hagar has heard thru his managmnent that the brothers eddie and alex van halen will not be attending the rock and roll hall of fame ceremonys where they will be inducted along with the very attending david lee roth, michael anthony and sammy hagar. there you have it.
lovato | 3/7/2007, 3:49 pm EST
you know what? van halen is more david and sammy than the actual van halen’s. Regarldless of which singer you like more… And WOLFGANG CAN SURVIVE TOURING!! it’s alot easier than getting up early everyday for school and staying awake. He is YOUNG and is gonna be just having fun every night so whats the big fucking deal? Eddie’s dad would be dissapointed and his mom would call him a nobody-nut, just like he said she used to say in a vh documentary. If eddie wants to not shame his international fan-base for all of history and kill his legacy, he needs to pick up his damn guitar and wait to bitch about shit until the show is over. He has been my idol, the reason i started playing guitar, and lead guitar of the most raw rock and roll band of all time, but i am actually losing my respect for him. He needs to build a franken-coffin, cause he is laying down and quitting…
kevfee | 3/7/2007, 4:33 pm EST
If you didnt see VH by 1981,then you will never really see them. They were young, unspoiled, not to rich and hot as hell. You can never get that energy back .One of the best live bands of all time.
tkouts | 3/7/2007, 6:12 pm EST
Let’s face the facts. Ed is the heart of VH. The mouth is either DLR or SH. History has shown that none of the mouths can stand alone against VH as a whole.
The bad thing is that, just like any other genius, Ed is a perfectionist. The hunt for perfect ion grows proportionally over the years the same way reputation does. This hunt leads to destruction. Add the booze addiction and there you have it. Ed’s judgment is blurred.
VH and DLR reunion cannot succeed because the “fun” factor is out of the scene….
trent | 3/7/2007, 6:56 pm EST
just remember that ed is getting older and his playing style and ability will change along with it. i think too many people are still expecting something from eddie van halen and the band VH that they will not be able to fulfill. drugs, alcohol, lazyness it doesnt matter. they are not getting any younger and its not the 80’s anymore.
Dr. Ralph | 3/8/2007, 9:11 am EST
kevfee, you’re right but I think up until the 1984 tour they were a different animal. When Valerie and Ed hooked up the whole chemistry changed. Eddie wanted to play love songs and Dave still wanted to party like a big dog. This more than anything else ushered in the Hagar era with love walks in, if it’s love, blah blah blah… no more love em and leave em ala Jamies cryin’.
john of iowa | 3/8/2007, 2:51 pm EST
I graduated from high school with Vanhalen playing in my car on 8 track tapes and I really need to see a show. This better happen because I will spend what ever the cost would be to see a show that I had missed years ago. Valerie, who was one of my television loves better let Wolfgang at least try to play the shows. Anyways, this will kill me because I had tickets to see led Zepplin in Chicago and Jon Bonim and the show was cancelled.
The Pimp | 3/8/2007, 4:24 pm EST
I just read an article in the LA times Dave is not showing monday for the rock and roll hof induction. Dave says he will not watch velvet revolver perform Vh songs. So Sam and Mike will be there. Dave also says If Ed ever dries up they will be a stadium act. This is a mess next time im cali im going to ED’s I know where he lives and kick his ass and Alex’s too
todd | 3/8/2007, 5:32 pm EST
here is a thought !!! if wolfgang
is such a great musician let him
take Ed’s place on guitar, let
Mike play the bass, let Dave belt
out the vocals, and finally if Alex would have enough backbone
to stand up for what is right, and tell Ed to get his ass some help, get on those drums and rock. I have been a VH fan since
VH I. However I now at at the point where I really don’t care
what the Van Halen brothers do. It seems to me that Dave is really trying to make this thing work, and the only thing that Eddie is doing is letting all the
true VH fans down !!!! AGAIN !!!
VH Fan from downunder | 3/8/2007, 5:40 pm EST
Why don’t they all just “build a bridge and get over it!”
Life’s to short for this shit to go on.
All Van Halen fans deserve better than this!
If it wasn’t for us fans, there would be no Van Halen.
ludwig dude | 3/8/2007, 6:19 pm EST
Now we all can stop speculating, Eddie just entered rehab about an hour ago… get WELL ED
Jesse | 3/8/2007, 6:24 pm EST
i was just looking on the van halen website and eddie says that he is checking into rehab. Man, i really hope that there is going to be a tour this summer lets hope that they work everything out and the band rocks out for all the fans
Sleazin | 3/8/2007, 6:33 pm EST
I’ve worshipped VAN HALEN since 1978, and this reunion should be ALEX, DAVE, EDDIE, and MIKE. No offense against Wolfgang, but I wanna see Mike up there with his Jack Daniels Bass, and he has a great voice and he is just a huge part of VAN HALEN, so without him it won’t be a complete reunion!
kevfee | 3/8/2007, 6:35 pm EST
Come on Ed,dry the f— up will ya.You owe it to everyone who never got to see the original VH.I was fortunate enough to see VH 7 times from 78-84.Saw Van Hagar once and walked out halfway through. And leave Wolfie at home with the play station.Make it an all original VH reunion.Mike deserves to be there as much as anyone else.

Oh, shawna…please post again. Where are you from? What do you know? Why do you want this as bad as I do…despite the fact that it could be a huge letdown?
23 years? How old are you and what kept you from seeing them first several times around?
dave matthews really | 3/9/2007, 10:23 am EST
my first concert ever… the woman and children tour…..awsome. seen them all after that…awsome. till the break up. i always idolized dave, but then thought he was the problem the way the brothers sounded. guess not. sorry dave. hope it all works out. were never to old to do what we love…
TheGoatsucker | 3/9/2007, 10:33 am EST
Outside of a Beatles reunion, which is no longer possible, the only reunion that would pack every stadium across the world would be a VanHalen reunion with Diamond Dave. No one else doing the vocals matters. With Dave, you sell out stadiums, with someone else, you sell out bars. Do the math.
The Pimp | 3/9/2007, 11:43 am EST
It is about time Ed tries to clean up last time he went to rehab back in 87 he did not stay he left also that same year left an AA meeting stopped at a bar and got a DUI on his ninja. If all works out next summer they will tour hopefully Ed looks back and relizes what a douche he was and brings Mike back.
todd | 3/9/2007, 12:09 pm EST
Give Wolfie some slack. In my humble opinion I think VH would still put on a great show. Let the kid rip Mean Street or Unchained to shut his critics up. Man, he was taught by the best. Can you imagine that!!?? Ed and Al’s dad always told them, age has nothing to do with rockin’, either you can play or you can get the hell out! Do you think Eddie may have instilled this in his son!?
Travis | 3/9/2007, 12:48 pm EST
**You guys are way off!! *** Van Halen III is the all time best album. Sammy and David could only hope to measure up to Cherone on vocals. It should be Cherone, Alex, Eddie and Michael at the Rock n Roll hall of fame!
Big Bad Bill/Sweet William | 3/9/2007, 1:18 pm EST
I hope Ed gets better. It’s a shame that a guy with so much talent professionally can’t get his personal shit together. By the way people, VH doesn’t owe you anything. Were you not entertained?
It would be nice to see an orig lineup tour, but it probably won’t happen. Don’t sweat it! Enjoy the old shit and shut up!
OUdrank12 | 3/9/2007, 1:24 pm EST
Eddie & Alex need to pull their heads out of their ass and bring back Michael. Wolfgang should start his own band and not ride on the coat tails of drunken daddy. Eddies a train wreck !!!!!
toddfl | 3/9/2007, 1:28 pm EST
Travis, I’m glad you glad you like VH III and Cherone is a great singer but common man, his voice was just a little to crisp for the raspy rippen’ rock sound Van Halen had with Sammy and David….do you agree? Cherone sounded great with Extreme’s style I’ll admit. If they could do a time line of VH in the Hall of Fame , David AND Sammy should be in there with VH. Of course with Alex too. I’m rambling..
toddfl | 3/9/2007, 1:32 pm EST
I meant Micheal too..sorry.
Lew | 3/9/2007, 2:06 pm EST
Just a thought but who gives a shit? Van Halen was fun when we were kids but we grew up and they got old. It’s time for the looseers who still think these dinosaurs are any good to listen to some new stuff. Move on for Christ sake!
Edward Von Lipshitz | 3/9/2007, 2:22 pm EST
Did you reaaly think there would be a tour. Those VH brothers are fucked up and can’t get along with anyone. There old news anyway.
The Pimp | 3/9/2007, 2:23 pm EST
I wonder who finally was able to convince him into getting help. I have a feeling Dave and Ed’s girlfriend had something to do with it. Because no one will promoter will touch them now not until he can play 2004 was the worst I ever heard him play and he was drinking in past. We need to see them play together again with Mike.
atruevanhalenfan | 3/9/2007, 3:16 pm EST
i thought i had heard it all, and in here i guess i have, i’ve heard evrything from eddie is a saint to eddie is washed up. it’s no wonder they are hesitant to get on the road again, nobody really seems to care anyways.and apparently no one in here knows anything about the music business.blame eddie or alex or sammy or dave doesnt matter, record execs dont care unless it makes money….and if theres a way to make a dime on all of this you can bet they will. and no matter how much we the fans love the artist, wether it be van halen poison rush or culture club, we dont determine who stays and who goes, only how we remember them and we the fans give them the respect that they get, all the big record companys only love them while they are hot and selling.but when they fade to new fads or new acts like rap or the seattle music and grunge whatever you want to call it, thats when a true fan shows his true colors, not take every chance to take pot shots at eddie when half of you dont even know what the hell is really going on, just like me. i love van halen. may not agree with the lineups but i still love em, eddie goes to rehab and you like i should do is support him if you are a true fan. if your not be one for whomever you like. dont waste your time trying to take down someone who is unfortunatly already down right now,, eddie if you ever see this do what you do best. rock your balls off and have fun. thats all you owe anyone. if your having fun a true van halen fan will be having fun as well…we as fans need to understand reuniting a band isnt just calling the old lineup and saying lets meet in the garage where it all started. it’s all political now and everybody feels they have to get their piece. the hall of fame show is the only place where they can just jam and not have to have everyones seal of approval, cause that night my friends is all about them and they deserve it. all of them…if you dont like eddie than fine but dont try and take him down for what he has accomplished, look at any top 10 guitar list of all time, and in that top ten time in and time out you will see eddie van halen.wether your a metalhead or or your into britney spears. if you are a guitar player you have been influenced by eddies style, rock music has eddies influence all over it, and thats what legends do they inspire…
rock on eddie
you are a legend.
chimera | 3/9/2007, 5:02 pm EST

I was so physched to get the chance to see David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen together again, it just couldn’t get any better than that. Sure hope they change there mind and there is a tour.
I think Wolfgang is probably a huge talent and should be given a chance to jam with his father. Can’t go wrong with DLR and EVH together again!!!!

This forum is a mess and an Insult to one of the hardest working acts in the music buissness. The point Now should be That the fans realize How ill Ed is and wish him well. Why are people surprised by the decisions to tour with a fifteen yr old and Bring back a proven loser in DLR. Alcohol and Drugs are known to cloud the decisions that users make. The point is Eddie is Not thinking clearly, He is a sick guy who needs friends and family to intervene and support him so we don’t lose him. So he is trying to Will back the success he remembers in the haydays, anybody would. Prolonged abuse has made Ed dilusional and he is battling his own genious, besides alcoholism. The band peaked with Sammy as it should have. Hopefully, eddie will sustain his sobriety if he gets it. He is only a Human, besides having Guitar Prowess. I love that Guy, the real Eddie, I just hope we are all Lucky enouph to see him Do what he does Best. Eddie is a musical Genius, I have never known any musician with his level of talent whom has not have problems. That being said, I love Eddie and wish him a happy and long Life,. Thanks to Eddie and all of the the original group for some of the best kick ass rock and roll ever. I never Pray, But I am praying Now For Eddie and all of His talented bandmates. I really don’t care if the band plays ever again. I just cant Imagine losing another Rock Icon. Eddie get well soon, all the true fans miss you and don’t need to write negative crap to enetrtain themselves. deepr
Kracker | 3/10/2007, 8:41 pm EST
Ok, I lied, my middle name is Paul, thats what he liked to call me. Van Halen, hmmmm….god bless Eddie and his trials…thats why there are MP3’s,CD’s, cassettes, and 8 tracks. What ever transpires, that was who they were, it may be a different sound, a trip down memory lane, but if you in any way think people are going to instantly start wearing bandanas again you are dellusional. Respect an era when it has past, Eddie, enjoy yourself, whether that be music or fishing, just have a good life, you have produced history, something few can say, history rarely repeats, we should all respect where it rests in the books.
And Eddie, not that you’ll be reading this, but you know DLR and the way he really was, I have a lot of respect for you never using those things against him publically….in that, and what few know, you were the bigger person in that time. Get it people “Van Halen”–the brothers say who stays and who goes, not the the rest, its their business, not ours.
Kracker | 3/10/2007, 8:49 pm EST
Important to note: Notice I did not use Sammy’s name in the same sentence as “Van Halen”. He has no right. His life would have ended as the pathtic putz55 if it wasn’t for eddie. Sammy, Eddie saved your career, have a little f****ng humility. I know you personally as well and, well, you are and egotisical pr**k who rode on the coattails of a true legend. Whoooo good for you, you own a bar in Mexico, mr. big time making half ass appearences on half baked Rocker Stations that no one listens to anymore. Van Halen was a “group”. The Grateful Dead never tried to “get another singer”–not that I am a big dead fan or anything, I am not, but they had the respect and dignity to let the sun set. After the original VH, it was just another group….never did Post VH capture the essence of the original vibe(guess I am giving DLR a little credit here, but he’s still a twit”. Very few of us have the right to say we have ever been truly “the best” at anything. Eddie, you earned that. Give back to us what you can, but remember to keep some for yourself.
Minimom | 3/10/2007, 11:34 pm EST
OK, I’ve gotta say something here. Ed happens to be a friend of mine and I’m SO happy that he has decided to get clean for good. He is playing better than ever and Wolfie is a phenomenal bass player (and drummer!) AND the sweetest kid I know next to my own son. People need to withhold judgement until they hear the Van Halen family play together. It’s the way it was meant to be and I, for one, can’t wait for the tour which WILL happen!
OLD FAN ! | 3/11/2007, 1:13 am EST
How many of you remember when they played back yard parties…
Davis | 3/11/2007, 6:18 pm EST
Minimom you rock!!
love your positive outlook, I cant wait to see the VH family play as well. Mike was a great bass player and backing vocalist in the band and is original as they come, but like Ed said “he plays in another band now and you can’t be in two bands”. Bring on wolfie!!
buzz | 3/12/2007, 5:53 pm EST
How blind do you have to be to see that Eddie is the reason Van Halen broke up the first time and second time. As far as Roth is concerned anyone who has heard him lately or saw him on the Hagar/Roth tour together realizes its not 1982 anymore and spandex is out alond with his hair. He was horrible 4 years ago on that tour and it would be pathetic to see a guy try to do a karate kick who can’t lift his leg above his stomache. As far as Kracker is concerned Hagar is the only one left with a career. You might think Van Halen saved his career I see it the other way around. Van halen reinvented themselves with his writing and BTW never had a #1 album til 5150 and then had 4 in a row..Nothing the OLD Van Halen did. Dont get me wrong those albums were great and I love the music although I think Diamond dave is a ridiculous Vegas act these days. Noone is cooler than Michael Anthony in the group and who does he hang with these days? Sammy and Michael are true rockers moving forward with their careers not stuck in the past. So for Kracker to say Sammy’s career was over without Van Halen should realize Gary Cherone would of gotten the call many years earlier and its Eddies career which woulda ended not Sammy’s……..
buzz | 3/12/2007, 6:02 pm EST
p.s. anyone who thinks the reason eddie didn’t ask Michael to do the tour because he was “in another band” is ridiculous. He wasn’t in another band in 2004 when Eddie didn’t want Michael for that tour either. But sammy wouldn’t do it without Michael. As Sammy said even then “how do you do a reunion tour without the original members?”..For some reason people want to keep makeing excuses for Eddie’s bad behavior towards his bandmates and his decisions. Well hope he gets better drys out and wakes up and realizes as great as he is he wouldn’t of done it alone. Without a great front man you don’t sell 50 millin albums. Roth WAS great..Sammy and Michael ARE great…

K Hat | 3/13/2007, 12:24 am EST
There are two reason why this didn’t happen. One, Ed has some major personal issues, and I hope he wins his battle against those demons.
Two, this band is not marketable anymore. They were going to tour with no new music, and the band would have been going on tour with about two months worth of pratice.
If a promoter was to touch this, they would only be holding out on the loyal fans that are in their 40’s and 50’s to shell out big bucks to see a two hour show.
They also know how Dave is, like him or not, he has an ego the size of a stadium, and he’s proven he can’t get along with anyone. It would be a NASCAR wreck waiting to happen.
In addition, Dave has no new material, expect for some lame Van Halen material/Bluegrass CD that was a joke.
In all respect to the kid, it would be a big gamble to promote a band with a 16 year old bass player.
I don’t like to rain on your parade, but don’t hold your breath, a Van Halen tour with these four, and no new material just won’t happen.
Eddie's Girl | 3/13/2007, 8:04 am EST

I was very upset last night watching the rock-n-roll hall-o-shame inductions. I only watched for van halen and I didn’t know Eddie, Alex and Dave weren’t going to be there. I understand why Eddie wasn’t there, but for Dave and Alex not to show up was a shame. I am so bummed out about what’s going on with these guys.
I hate to say it but Rock-n-Roll is dying out!!!!!

To EDDIE,DAVE,MIKE AND ALEX,
PLEASE!!! put the past behind you and get this tour back on track, when i was growing up with you listening to that GREAT!!sound of VAN HALEN Iwas crushed when you broke up, i though sammy was better by himself than with van halen, dave your the best ,you guy’s can do ,look at the problems that def leppard had that band i love and they have true loyalty to there band and rock and roll, the stones are old but they are still together and still rock.PLEASE get the tour going and come to ST.LOUIS so i can see you guys have fun again,i have been waiting for a reuniun for ,well since you guy’s broke up, it won’t be right without mike but i do agree you should at least let wolfgang play a few songs with the band, maybe right a couple of new songs with him playing bass, van halen was the best rock group back then so please get back together and make the tour happen so you can be great again, eddie get well soon and hopefully i will see you guy’s soon in st.louis

If other oldies bands can put the shit to one side for the money I have a suggestion Call it the SAM and DAVE tour. DLR, Sammy, Eddie ,Mike ,Alex and Wolfie all on the same stage do the damn show let the die-hard fans pay outrageous money for tickets .Start out with Chicago, NYC ,LA,Dallas 6 or so shows and see if it all holds together . Hopefully (And I mean it) those in the band with substance abuse problems get clean and find happiness the music isn`t important for some of these guys ..if it was they would find a way around the ego `s and get onto the buisness of making music AND money !
48_nelaH_naV | 3/13/2007, 12:09 pm EST
Hey Buzz,
Could you please explain why VH/DLR sold 37.7 million albums, when VH/SH only sold 18 million?
Both have the same amount of albums {5} not counting complilations of which, again more complilations {greatest hits albums} during the SH era.
Having #1 albums don’t mean diddly if the sales aren’t there.
Maybe #1 albums because of radio airplay, but certainly not from sales.
I’ve quoted U.S. sales figures here.

I’m so over the whole Van Halen thing. I have been a die-hard fan since way back when. But being inducted into the Hall of Fame is a moment of a lifetime. They couldn’t get their collective @#*% together for at least one night!? Can’t you do it for the ‘kids’? Quit taking everything for granted. Before you know it, it’ll be gone. Oh, wait it IS gone! I just can’t take it anymore. I’m done.
I’m not planning on dropping good money down on tickets to a half-baked wannabe revival. Good riddance and grow up!

As far as Van Halen and the RRHOF,
Eddie had an excuse, Alex I guess didn’t want to go without his lil bro. Mike and Sam proved they are a class act. DLR no excuse, you need to grow up.
Jim in Monterey, CA. | 3/13/2007, 9:48 pm EST
I’m still ticked. I looked forward to seeing the members of VH inducted into the RRHOF. The greatest/rock party band of all time and only two members show up! One of them is not a founding member and the other a founding member but kicked out of the band. At least those guys have some class! Only one member had any excuse at all for not showing up. The others just took a huge dump on their fans.

VAN HALEN FOR EVER
Iron Man | 3/14/2007, 9:50 pm EST
Lets compare DLR to Sammy. In the early days, DLR was THE ultimate rocker. Every album up to Diver Down was solid GOLD baby. Then, Diver Down came out. Since that album, Dave has become a cartoon character. All he wants to do is “zappa zappa zoo zoo” and “scooby doo” when he sings. His “bop, zuzza zuzza bop, zidda bop” is soooooo old. Grow up. Then came Sammy. 5150 propelled VH to a whole new level of music. Sammy brought an aspect to Van Halen that the cartoon character DLR could never bring. Can you imagine DLR trying to sing Not Enough? I guess Eddie could play a banjo and have DLR put cimbals on his needs so he can ham bone!!!! Sammy IS Van Halen. I went to see VAN Haln on their most recent tour in Greensboro and Atlanta. In Atlanta, I had the seats inside the stage, about 2 feet from Michael. Sammy and Michael interacted withe crown, high fived uh, gave us their autographs, etc…. Eddie wouldnt even make eye contact with the audience, and NEVER acknowledged us. Alex was the same. Sammy and Michael gave made the show, at least they acknowledged their fans. I guess that is too much to ask from Eddie And Alex. Too bad the greatest guitarist who ever lived will be remembered for his pouting, not his music. I have been a DIEHARD LOYAL VH fan since 1980, but I must say, they have blown it.
Sonic Templar | 3/14/2007, 9:56 pm EST
Better enjoy the rockers while we gottum kids, cuz in ten years the RRHOF inductees will be 5 rap acts to maybe one “rock” act. Thanks to some moron who obviously hates rock and roll.
hot rockin' | 3/14/2007, 10:43 pm EST
to iron man… Dave would not WANT to sing any of the sissified cheesepop van hagar represented. I guess you probably think Europe was better than Ratt…
Jim in Monterey, CA. | 3/14/2007, 11:53 pm EST
The Dave vs. Sammy debate is just such a waste of time. Regardless of which era you like or maybe both it doesn’t change the fact that some VanHalen members don’t care about us fans at all! They’ve become spoiled rich, self-centered, immature babies. Perhaps they always were. I’m an naive idiot for letting that fact pass over me for so long. On the flip-side; I sure hope Ed feels better soon. I can’t imagine going through all he has so publicly.
Iron Man | 3/15/2007, 12:30 am EST

Cheesy?? Look at DLR lyrics on Drop Dead Legs
Dig those moves, vam-pire
Set me loose, get it higher.
Throw my rope, loop-de-loop
Nice white teeth, betty boop.
He actually used “Betty boop” i n a song?????!!!!!!!
He should stick with his Scooby Dooby zabba zabba boo boo stuff, and let Sammy do the real singing.
Game, set, and match!
VanHagar for Life | 3/15/2007, 9:47 am EST
The RRHOF performance by Velvet Revolver- Wow. Could that have sucked any more? Musically a sound performance of Aint Talkin Bout Love, vocally…yikes!! Slash was ok. He could afford to be “ok” with a rythym guitarist, but that’s probably beside the point. As far as what they called Runaround, that was just awful. Sammy and Mikey sounded great despite the odd arrangement they had of Why Can’t This Be Love. Horns?!? Anyway… I just hope Eddie swims out of the bottle and we get SOMETHING we can call Van Halen again SOON!!!!
PS- Yes, I’m a Sammy fan, but I would MUCH rather have seen Diamond Dave up there instead of Weiland.

I need to correct myself from below.
VH/DLR – 6 albums {No “Live” or “Hits”} = 37.7 million in sales.
VH/SH – 7 albums {1/”Live” & 2/”Hits”} = 18 million in sales.
U.S sales quoted here.
Jim in Monterey, CA. | 3/15/2007, 7:33 pm EST
To “VanHagar for Life”,. Hey , I’m a huge VR fan but seriously, Slash’s opening of “Ain’t Talkin Bout Love” was so sloppy I was embarrased for him. The little kids in our neighborhood can do better! Scott has never sounded so bad. It didn’t work. God, I wish they had picked someone else to take the sting out of the evening. I’m not sure yet wether VH will ever regain their fan base now.

Sonic Templar:
My original post said DLR WAS the man, until Diver Down came out. No doubt, the first 4 VH albums rocked hard!!!! No doubt. But now DLR is a cartoon character. He looks like the Crypt Keeper.
His solo career was a joke. Sammy is more mature, and a much better performer. DLR is to much a ham. So I choose Sammy over Hammy!
Sonic Templar | 3/16/2007, 12:44 am EST
well Im sure if DLR could sell his soul to be forever frozen in 1981, he would do it in a second. Unfortunately, father time can turn out to be a nasty MF.Thats not a DLR problem, thats a harsh reality we ALL must face eventually. Now,where was all this fucking negativity when Kiss came back? Is Kiss something more special than classic VH? SHIT NO. Hell, in my mind, VH was everything Kiss never was and never would be.
VanHagar for Life | 3/16/2007, 12:07 pm EST
To Jim in Monterey, CA-
Yeah, and the way he played it down the neck was just not correct. Eddie always (and so do I for that matter) plays it up in first postition. Oh well. As far as regaining the fanbase- I dunno. I know I’d buy a ticket. I just would. If Eddie says it’s a go, I’m going. No question. I’m an Eddie Van Halen fan. That’s why I try to stay out of the “who’s better than who” bullshit. Ultimately, I really don’t care. I know what speaks to me, and that’s it. Oh, and I definitely wasn’t ragging on VR, just that performance. Peace.
Dee140 | 3/16/2007, 4:01 pm EST
Ironman, I can`t believe any metal fan would ever put down KISS! You are fucking insane! KISS is the best and will continue to be. Van Halen isn`t as good as KISS because KISS wasn`t fucking dumb enough to get Sammy Hagar to sing and be drunk and stupid for them. You`re the only one who is fucking stupid enough to say that! VH should have kept David Lee Roth. Regis could`ve been they`re singer, he`s better than Sammy. KISS never made that big of a mistake. Fuck you!
Cimm | 3/17/2007, 2:16 am EST
Sammy vs. Dave? Totally different music when either men front VH. Dave w/ VH in the early days through 1984 was incredible. My highschool days were filled w/ music from VH 8 tracks and albumns! “Aint talkin bout love” is one of the best rock n roll songs, (just my opinion)
See ya! Cimm

To VanHagar for Life, it’s OK if you want to rag on VR, LOL. I’m truly not into that sort of thing. They write some interesting material but I’m not a huge fan. Yes, Slash was playing that song in a strange place on the guitar though I suppose it could work. The tone is way off in that position however. Probably wouldn’t notice much on Slash’s gear though. Everyone always plays that on the first so I don’t know what he was thinking. Plus he was flubbing up right and left. I still say he had a few before he went out. Scott just sounded weird!
I never bother with these boards but VH was really important to my youth and music experience. Very disappointing over all that’s happened. I feel better now that I’ve vented, LOL. Yes, after all the cr@p I’ve spewed on this board I too would go to a VH show, sad huh? There aint no way I’d miss a chance to see Eddie for one possibly last time. I sure hope they get MA back in though.

rocka rolla | 4/3/2007, 8:48 pm EST
sheesh… this debate is really silly. Both Kiss and Dave era VH are two of the greatest bands of all time. In each bands prime, they could bring the rock. BIG TIME.Something sorely lacking with bands today.I would say to the clown who made a lame case, and i mean LAME, that somehow because VH has in later years made disasterous decisions.(Cherone, dropping the ball in ‘96,shitting on Mike)that this makes Kiss better. The Kiss family is not quite as joyful as some stupid asses might think.Lets put it this way,if it were the 1800’s, Ace and Peter would be picking the cotton for Gene and Paul’s Shirts.I’ll give you a better example. How bout last years VH-1 Rock Honors where Ace plays with the warm up band and when Kiss plays… NO ACE! what the hell? So in other words, after 30 years nobody is flawless, dick.
Jim in Monterey, CA. | 4/4/2007, 8:43 pm EST
This is truly a strange debate indeed. Kiss vs. VH. Why bother? Another apples and oranges argument that sucks up space. On another more positive note; I hope Eddie gets well soon. I’m going to put some VH on right now and crank-it for the neighbors. Think I’ll fire up the geetar amp as well.

Speaking of the RRHOF, sammy couldnt be any more luckier hitching up with these guys and he’s not even in the band anymore! i know roth isnt either but he was a founding member after all. and sammy’s montrose may not have made it for long long time, if at all. talk about the best ride on coat tails anyone could have ever been on!
O'Neal | 8/10/2007, 10:31 pm EST
Ok, we are all human here, not to sound like a dork but come on. Are we all perfect? Ehmm, NOT! If some one is having problems shouldn’t we grant them some compassion and or support? After all we are the ones listening/paying for the music these guys put out. If you don’t like it don’t listen. First off Sammy never road on the coat tails of van halen to become a success. He was well into his own before van halen and is 100% all american rock and roll, the “red rocker” before and after VH. Hat’s off to you sammy, and to VH. My brothers and I are all musicians and grew up listening to Van Halen and Sammy Haggar before joining Van Halen. Of course the switch from lead vocalists was hard to cope with as was with every VH fan. People just don’t like change. But even with Sammy on vocals there was tremendous success and produced loads of great songs and albums. I doubt anyone posting here can say they have made one single hit song or record. That’s what it’s about in my oppinion, the music. Look, everyone of us has our own faults and demons to deal with in life. If eddie is having trouble and since every one posting here apperantly has some interest or liking to the band or memebers past or present then we should be supporting them not critical. All I am saying is I love the music VH has produced through the years. Yes, I admit I was agrivated by the loss of David as the lead vocalist “back in the day” but ya cant take it out on the guy that replaced him just because he wasn’t the original. Some times people just don’t get along for what ever reasons and need to make changes. Point the blame where you want but it leads no where. I don’t know maybe I am just getting old but I simply say make the music and rock on!!! VH and Sammy keep rocking…
PamelaC | 8/11/2007, 10:46 am EST
I have no idea whether VH reads any of these comments, but I hope this message gets to one of them. My daughter doesn’t know about the squabbling, politics or delays, she just loves the music. If VH plays in Nashville or any where near and I can afford the tickets, I will drive her to the concert. This might be the last chance for her to see you in concert. You see she is now 12, her dad was one of your biggest fans. You never knew him, but he partied right along with you. Serious addiction–several of the best rehabs. When he finally became clean, the years of abuse to his body had taken its toll. In 2002 I took my daughter to see David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar when they played in Nashville. Everyone stood up and I don’t think she could see the stage, but she heard the music. Her dad was too sick to attend the concert. He died six months after that. Hospice and grief counselors played an important role in her life. At the funeral, she brought some of her dad’s favorite cds. When it came time to pay last respects at graveside, I asked her what she wanted played. She responded, “Running With The Devil.” Everyone laughed and said Joe would have loved that.
So VH when you’re out there on tour, remember there is a young girl, that’s an honor roll student, civil war reenacting drummer, and just a delightful daugher, that is in the audience for very special circumstances.

The Hard, Cold Truth:
It doesn’t matter whether or not the RRHOF award itself is valuable. It’s an acknowledgment from artist peers and a chance for fans to see the “one-time” event. For the fans that have bought their albums over the years to help support their wonderful lifestyle – at the least some members of VH could have made a showing at the RRHOF. Eff-them! I’d been the loyalist of fans through all the years, (since the beginning), but when they didn’t show it spoke volumes to me. I was so looking forward to see them receive that award. What a mess that was! But that’s old news. Truth is, they don’t give a rats as$ about the fans. That’s a fact. DLR is a giant as$ and so are the brothers. The only ones with class are no longer in the band.

Get yer mullet hair cuts curly permed and the Camaro waxed up you cheese dicks so you can go pay $50 to watch a washed up methhead,a double pedal playing never was,a hair club for men member and silver spoon punk ass kid not worthy of a garage band stumble around a stage and piss into the wind…..Get a life , grow up and get out of your parents house.Oh…and have a great day.
reverend d | 8/15/2007, 11:47 pm EST
i agree haggar is good but roth is the man. kiss wore make up to cover up the fact that pound for pound they really were not much more than a mediocre garage band its really sad that these clowns need there rock spoon fed to them.eddie needs to get his ass off his shoulders. and realize hes only human .not a rock god.it always seems to be somebody elses fault.eddie your a dick.other bands 1000s of bands would love to have the chances they throw away like garbage.oh im sorry eddie dont take out the garbage .his ego tells him garbage would contaminate his majic fingers .perhaps they should retire while they still have face to save…reverend d

Now, to Ironman, I know my long absence has probably had you thinking that you won this argument. WRONG!!!!! I’m back, and Lamar,AR likes KISS more than Van Halen!!!!!!!!!!
Dee140 | 12/13/2007, 11:13 am EST
Reverend d., KISS rocks harder than Van Halen! What you gonna’ do about it?! Dumbass, I know music thank you very much! To anyone who says that I forgot that Gene Simmons discovered Van Halen, look on the back of the first album!! Ted Templemen signed them! Gene was to smart to sign them! It fell through! This ain’t over yet, it’s just beginning!! Come out, Come out wherever you are, Ironman!!

kissfan4life, that’s the biggest bunch of bullshit that I’ve heard in my life! If you’re a KISS fan for life, you don’t sound like one! I can name a few people that haven’t heard Rock and Roll all nite! Nathan, Brooklyn, Tiffany, Ashley, the list goes on and on! You sit there and say that I don’t know music, how dare you!!!!! Michael Anthony, I know you’re probably mad at Eddie, but as far as I know, the reason why Wolfgang is rocking in your place is because you denied the chance for a reunion! Can you really call it a reunion! It’s you’re fault in the end, don’t blame Eddie for this! Come out and play!! One more thing, ya’ mama!!!! I’m not black though!!
arbiter666 | 12/14/2007, 11:08 am EST

Rick | 2/22/2008, 8:39 pm EST
Looks like the 2008 tour is off again. Eddie supposedly flunked his urine test.
VanHalenFAN_4_Life | 3/3/2008, 4:01 pm EST
You negative Nancy-boyz are such pathetic little weezles. Any chance to diss the mighty Van Halen in deference to your own whiny little cry-baby fests aren’t worth commenting on. BUT what is worth commenting on is the latest factoid to come out of the VH management camp/ The tour is NOT being cancelled. Eddie is seeing a doctor. The man might be ill and he wants to get better. The tour will procede as planned. So, shut the f*ck up, you bunch of Sammy Hagar Fans.
Scott | 3/4/2008, 6:47 pm EST
That’s Ok I will see Rush again in Miwaukee after just seeing them recently. To me TRusah is 10 times the band Van Halen is so I don’t really care though i may have seen them if I could hsave gotton cheap tickets. Need to save anothe $600.00 to $700.00 for first or second row for Rush
nick | 3/5/2008, 12:02 am EST
hey scott ur an idiot, there is a reason why van halen is know has one of the greatest rock bands of al time. HOw many albums totaled has rush solfd over 35 years, 40 million, Van Halen has sold 80 millions and they havent been around as long. VAN Halen with the exception of only Zeppelin is THE GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME.
Damage Inc | 3/5/2008, 10:40 am EST
Nick — I think you need to work on your spelling dude .
Dee140 | 3/21/2008, 9:05 pm EST
VH is the best band in the world. Well, if you forget KISS. Van Halen puts on one of the best and loudest shows ever!! I saw them in Little Rock, AR. Eddie’s gonna be just fine! Don’t Worry CHILDREN!!
rok-lovr | 4/30/2008, 9:00 pm EST
yeah dee i think that vh is a pretty cool band compared to kiss but my friend did a project on kiss and i’m doin’ a project on eddie , we ended in a fight of who is the best
Dee140 | 5/11/2008, 10:06 pm EST
That’s okay. I can see how that would happen. But, in the end, we all have our own oppinion. We just have to learn to accept it. But, if your name is Ironman, that’s impossible!! You know, he’s shut up. I wonder what happened to him. So, you’re a VH fan. What’s your favorite song?
Ryan Harmon Official | 7/22/2009, 3:17 am EST
Can’t wait for the new record. Well, I hope there’s a new Van Halen record.
